This is my most ambitious piece to date…maybe my last fanart for a while haha 😞😞

Some lore thoughts going into this illustration — feel free to ignore:

I was thinking this takes place in S2 in the Zianna Ro’Meave rescue arc, where Garroth returns to O’Khasis after many years to rescue his mother…He comes across their oldest (historically, the first in Ru’aun) cathedral and finds it in a wrecked and pillaged state.

The pious folk have pretty much abandoned the cathedral following Zane’s disappearance for 15 years and the Tu’la invasion was the nail on the coffin. The cathedral is completely barren of life except for the few intact stained glass windows that recount the history of the Divine Warriors.

Around this time it’s revealed that Garroth is the current holder of Esmund’s relic— is he anxious? Lost? Jumpstarting his quarter-life existential crisis?

I hope that everything here in this illustration captures my vision and conveys it to you. This is pretty much a love letter MCD HAHAHAHA

This is so interesting!! As a kid I LOVED discovering the new Divine Warrior drama. Any depth to these characters at all is a blessing and I think that the complexity of Irene was built up but ultimately unexplored. I wish we got the chance to see more of the four outside of Irene tho! Especially Enki an kul'Zak, they seem like they got a lot secrets and lore behind them! Thank you for thissssss 😩

Another thing to help me characterize my Divine Warriors - Vices

Shad: Bloodshed - After becoming the Destroyer he was always hungry. He craved to consume and destroy everything in his path, whether it be people, animals, or towns.

Irene: Attention - While attention in itself isn't bad, too much of it can be bad. Irene was subscribed to "Any attention is good attention" and was how she became the most worshipped god. She encouraged it so more people would come to her for help. She was a fixer.

Enki: Power - The man was a hoarder of knowledge, and in this world, the quote "knowledge is power" is directly inspired by Enki. She was the Keeper, and they constantly wanted more.

Menphia: Booze - She was the fury, the one who constantly got into fights. The definition of a warrior, but as a warrior, she often killed people in her bouts of fury that she never meant to. This led to her taking moments to... calm her mind with a stiff drink.

Esmund: People - This man was a self-sacrificing maniac. He desperately wanted people to love him and, more specifically, Irene to love him. He wanted to wrap everyone in his big strong arms so no one would ever be unsafe again.

Kul'Zak: Smoking - After becoming immortal against his will, he took up the habit so he could at least feel like death. After all, a smoked fish is a dead fish.

Love this twist so much! It fits in with literally EVERYHING! This is my first time seeing this outside of my own brain man, I'm rottinggggg 😭

Time for WENDELL'S WACKY MCD HEADCANNON

This time, the Demon Warlock and Travis!

It is my personal headcannon that Travis's mom wasn't a descendant of Enki, but she came from a long line of priestess of Enki. Or the old Enki.

In my headcannon I believe that Enki and the Demon Warlock are one in the same. He was an all powerful Divine Warrior, one whose job was to keep information and learn magic. That magic came at the cost for once they had the necessary magic, they needed more.

Having power isn't enough for those in and with power always want more. Enki, who was once a symbol of education and spreading knowledge for all one day, just disappeared. Some say they got lost on the path of life, others say they went searching for knowledge that would lead to immortality for all.

Well, the last part does contain some truth. For a keeper is only a keeper if they can contain their knowledge. Enki was getting older, and death was drawing near and they could not handle the idea of mortality. So they turned to magic that even they forbade themselves from using. Magic that traded lives by the hundreds.

Enki succeeded in having their body live forever, but they died that day. Their soul twisted, corrupted, and split that there was now two pieces. A kind soul left to be reborn, and HIM. A man so corrupted by magic that he only knows hatred and greed. The Demon Warlock.

MCD divine warriors, is there any critical lore bombs, or plot twist that went down between them that differs from the base material? Drama, relationships, literally any and all the information we never got. I want to know what's going on with so silly little god people.

Kul'Zak was in love with Esmund. Enki was in love with Irene, Menphia and Esmund's brother; Ezekiel. Menphia was in love with Irene and Enki, Esmund lowkey kinda had a crush on both Irene and Shad (but had a preference for Shad's fem form) but also held deep DEEP rooted resentment towards Shad. Irene, dear god Irene, she loved so many people and yet all of them met tragic ends. Shad loved Irene we know this.

(btw I purposely named Ezekiel that because it's the name of a priest and he's supposed to mimic Zane)

Irene and Shad are neither good nor bad. Death is neither good nor bad. Life is neither good nor bad.

Irene sealed Shad under a mountain for 10 years, after such he came back and was apart of the divine for another 8 years before the big war broke out.

The nether is called Oblivion in this world.

"Are afraid of centipedes Irene?" Shad treats the shadow knights as bugs, centipedes. When he first awoke in Oblivion that is what he first said.

When Irene and Shad fought Shad gave Irene the exact same scar she gave him when sealing him under the mountain. "Now we match."
