I need someone to rant with me about Basim's feelings towards Eivor
Because on the one hand I'm like "He loves her, Platonically or more it does not matter. He just fucking loves her. Hytham was not lying," and like sobbing over the fact that she was probably the only person he's ever told about Fenrir to. How he bears his agony over being betrayed. How he just looks at her. All those shots where he is just staring at her (sometimes smiling) "I guard you like a father," and Eivor's "You are family" lines.
But then. THEN. There's Basim's "I will take everything. Your memories. Your skills. Your secrets," as he stands over her grave. The GLOATING. That now, if he could not take her life, HE WILL TAKE EVERYTHING ELSE. And he says it with such malicious intent it's almost cruel.
That AS SOON as he realised who Eivor really was he went all the way to FUCKING NORWAY to kill her because he could not wait. That he momentarily SNAPS mentally over the chance at killing her.
But then there's him simply being "curious" at how her saga ends. There's nothing in it for him to know. He just wants to know.
The campfire scene in the modern day. Where Basim SEES Eivor. And they share a soft, knowing smile. Like he's greeting an old friend.
I just I JUST. DOES HE LOVE HER?! DOES HE HATE HIMSELF FOR LOVING HER?! Has Odin tainted her for him, made her beyond recognition?! Does he still blame Eivor for what happened in a past life? OR is the fact that Eivor is barely anything like him, a redeeming quality?! LIKE BASIM IBN ISHAQ LET ME CRAWL INSIDE YOUR BRAIN.
I love how even though they're at odds here they still share that look of 'wtf is she on?'
