Enlil headcannon

In her own warped way, Enlil actually thinks of Hikari as a friend. She was the people she had the most investment in out of everyone else in the theater. Unfortunately, because of her makeup as a collective being, she could not fathom her method of "helping" people as wrong. Also, despite looking the contrary, she is really insecure about Hikari's disapproval. A good thing to note is that while she is dismissive about the other's arguments against her ideals (and by extension her very existence), she only gets visibly distraught when Hikari joins in with them. It is part of what gets her to change into her final form. Her perceived "affection" towards Hikari is also the main reason why she DOESN'T attack her in the final battle. Enlil already Thanos snapped the three wildcards quite effortlessly, and Hikari has only 15 hp. If Enlil wanted to erase Hikari and be done with it, she could have. But instead she seems to treat her with pity, even somberly saying her name to herself when she's wasting her voice on what she perceived as a hopeless effort. Unlike Yaldabaoth's relationship with Ren, Enlil seemed to be genuinely fond of Hikari, in her own twisted way. Like Izanami, Enlil genuinely thinks placing people into theaters full of depressing movies is helping them cope. She can't comprehend any other solution because of her literally being a negative aspect. Her transforming back into her Nagi form before fading back into the collective unconscious was a last ditch effort for to be remembered fondly in Hikari's eyes, as the "person" she knew her as for the most time.

These are the children of Ereshkigal, the dark-eyed: Ninazu, by Gugulanna Heaven's-Bull Namtar, by Father Enlil who sits enthroned in state Nungal, by the queen of the dead and the dust of time that keeps her secrets. These are their titles. Ninazu, city-god, Enega and Ešunna, death-and-life through vegetation and the shadow of the never-never in his blood. Pitiless mace of war, dying and rising serpent-friend. He will suck the poison from your wounds. Namtar, inexorable. Right hand of the sinister, mouth of hell's crown, messenger of An and Ereshkigal and Nergal. Commander of demons whose very name breathes a plague, unfaltering fate, dutiful minister of his mother's court, Death who is the issue of the Dead's All-Mother. Nungal, the neck-stock, the dusty threshold bolt, the screaming lock, the fanged river of ordeals. Rebirther, reformer, who dwells in the mountain where Utu rises. Hers is that corner of the underworld man can return from reforged, the house of dust and shadows where a broken man sheds his old skin or wears it as burial shroud. Goddess Prison-Warden, her mother's daughter in the realm of men, radiant hope and beautiful despair, cool water of compassion on fevered brows. Hear their names in the bellow of a bull, in the snarl of a dragon, in the tolling-bell tones of their mother and as soft as crematory ash. They sit on the borderline like ravens on a fence, silent dark eyes and subtle croaked secrets, twilight-and-dawn owls, young-and-old serpents. Poison and healing, life found in death. Fear. Learn. Become braver for it. Ereshkigal, for deserved awe of you and your children, may your names be marked by the black-headed ones.

A Very Sumerian Christmas

So, some friends of mine and I were thinking about the utter lack of Christmas-adjacent holidays in Sumerian Polytheism. My brain snagged on the idea of Santa Claus and Nanna's Journey to Nibru. The result? Ma-gur, or the festival of the processional boat. A celebration which starts seven days before the winter solstice. The celebration in question is of the seven who decree fate and the world which they have given us. It's a holiday about family as well as it is about honoring the gods. An - Solemn prayer and many candles to represent the stars. Sanctuary candle is lit and kept lit throughout the days to honor all the gods and symbolize how they guide us. Enlil - wishes for the new years and messages for the gods. Enki - prank war, and a general day of humor and celebration of the world order. Ninhursag - Day of charity and getting out into the world which the gods have created. Inanna - Day of giving to yourself, indulging and giving love to yourself and the gods. Utu - Day of improving the world around you. Fix broken things, commit to a cause, improve your life a bit. Rest and enjoy peaceful time with your family otherwise. Nanna - Gift giving and wild celebration. Winter solstice. Ends, as all the nights do, with offering and prayer to the god in question as well as tribute being given to one's ancestors, followed by the snuffing of the candle as the holiday comes to a close. That's the gist of it. Sounds like a good time either way. This is the slightly crisper version of a list that included things like "Inanna's Day- go clubbing" and "Ninhursag's Day- drag the kids into the mountains for bonding time". Also various ideas like tying wishes to balloons for Enlil's Day, water purification on Enki's Day, and letting some sunlight into my dark den of nerdiness on Utu's Day. Feel free to play with it. Pass it on?
