i think he parallels steven in a particularly interesting way. you can make this argument for a lot of phoneys but everett is one of the main ones. steven is stiff and very set in corporate policy, and even before he died we can see a glimpse of this -- his main complaint is that henry killed customers during business and the likely corporate mess that's going to cause, on top of... you know... henry is a child murderer. the AI of gen 1 phoneys clearly drives this to an extreme point but regardless i personally at least headcanon steven as being Always kind of stiff.
everett, from the pieces we know of him, was also stiff even for phoney standards. but he was kind. and this is kind of where the parallel with them comes in because even though both of them were likely subject to the same "sweep it under the rug, it's probably fine" corporate philosophy, they were undoubtedly good-hearted underneath the ai. steven apologizes to peter's body before sending him to the factory and eats himself alive in the flipside with guilt and grief over the actions that he did during his time at fazbender's. everett hangs out with the other managers still and given that he goes with joe's plan to get revenge against abel we can figure he probably had that grief and anger that joe had even if it wasn't to the same degree. and everett dies (for the second time) trying to clean up an employee's corpse as soon as possible, which, yeah, is probably in part because having corpses in the restaurant is shitty for business, but given we know everett had a kind heart beneath the professionalism? i don't think it's a far stretch to imagine he also just wanted to give another victim of fazbender's some freedom from the building in death.
it's really interesting to me that consistently all the phoneys we see have goodness and kindness in them that shines through the AI -- or, perhaps, is interwoven with the AI. scott was exceptionally good and kind, after all. would it be wrong to imagine he would grieve every victim? the grief is just another stepping stone to getting scott back. this also makes the fact everett's last name is scott funny, especially when combined with the fact harry specifies when he's talking about the managers that took up the springlock suit acting that abel didn't like that everett had to take up the mantle after terrence. i can find a screenshot later but like that's especially noted. food for thought
anyways i acknowledge this is more headcanon than canon substance given we don't have much to work with but. Yeah. everett my good friend. (and also additional steven thoughts)
