This is rad I love this! I really enjoy how sort of plastic-like the organs look. It’s awesome!
Okay so,,, I wanted to rework Givanium. Because I honestly do not know how it brings them to life in canon?? So uh,,, here
Givanium is able to create living mass when in contact with a weak metal, blood, of any species, is used as a template for the type of living mass.
If you add chicken blood to a mixture of givanium and any metal, the mixture will form into a near perfect synthetic copy of the organs of the chicken who's blood was taken for the mixture.
This goes for any species, so long they have blood.
Different metals create different colors, and different metals are more compatible with different kinds of blood.
Whereas copper may be more compatible with mammal blood, magnesium may be better with blood from fish and insects.
Injecting givanium into a human being, whether living or dead, is prohibited. :)
This is the banban redesign that has been sitting in my ibis paint gallery for the longest of time now and the only other design that I'm content with apart from the bittergiggle one-
I’m watching a playthrough of the classrooms right now and my god, the sound design is phenomenal.
At least I think that’s a big factor for the creepiness (of course there’s a whole lot of other factors, but this is one I don’t notice is great in other Backrooms games). The way you have to sometimes listen to very slight sound cues for particular monsters is great, not to mention how weird and alien some of them sound. The darkness entity and the ear entity are my favorite so far, just because the way they sound is basically dread in auditory form. They kind of sound both organic and mechanical and are both extremely goofy, but since the introductions are done so well, they are also extremely creepy.
Both of them have pretty simple premises: for Mr. Ear man, he can hear extremely well and will run to any small sound. That’s been done a million times. But there’s also catches in his level: for example you are first introduced to a red balloon before you are introduced to the monster (at least I think you are in most gameplays). So your instinct is either to get the hell away or pop it. Popping it then leads the monster straight to you, and either you die or narrowly avoid it, but either way you’ve learned your lesson, which is: that guy’s literally a giant fucking ear and I need to make absolutely no sound and avoid anything that will.
For the second: the Darkness guy is also very simple. Just from the name of the level, you know its premise. But personally, my favorite part about it isn’t the optical changes or loud pang when it spawns, it’s mostly the droning moan that plays when it’s near. I actually think they could’ve done without the pang and just had the blue light and low drone when it’s spawned. I think that would’ve been more effective, since it means you have to rely on very small cues to know when the dark is near.
In conclusion, a lot of other Backrooms horror games rely on either very blatant, word-for-word hints or are vague in a way that can be frustrating. I think the classrooms really excels in the show don’t tell aspect (or hear don’t tell aspect haha haha canned laughter). That’s one of the reasons why it can be so legitimately scary. Ya gotta use ya brain
sketching garten of banban redesigns and i think this is a good addition
What’s Banban’s origins (like how was he made)? You don’t need to give a lot away! I’m just interested
Okay so, I love this question! I'm sorry it took me so long to answer it ^^:
So, before we get into how Banban was made, you need to know a few things about Givanium and Dr. Uthman.
Givanium is a toxic substance, and should not be ingested or absorbed through the skin. Once Givanium enters the human body it can cause many adverse effects, this is referred to as Givanium poisoning, I'll make a full list of these symptoms at some point, but here are the important ones:
Vivid, long lasting hallucinations.
Tumors or unusual growths.
Numbness or loss of feeling in the body.
At one point, when handling a broken vial of givanium, one of Dr. Uthman's gloves had been cut, causing him to come into contact with the givanium and end up absorbing it through his skin.
This caused him to experience hallucinations, and he was later discovered to have developed a tumor in the brain, said tumor was later surgically removed, and Dr. Uthman was able to safely recover from the incident.
The removed tumor was kept in the lab for research purposes.
Banban was the first givanium animated creature that they tried to make. They made several attempts, however all of those seemed to lack sentience. They were alive, but they were more like animals than walking & talking mascots, like how they were supposed to be.
They decided to try something different on their twelfth attempt. With permission from Dr. Uthman, they used some of his blood, aswell as a scrap from the removed tumor as a base.
They packed the tumor in tin and placed it inside the head of the synthetic body. In this stage it is only a shell. Its skin is made of various fabrics and silicone, buttons added in places that just wouldn't close properly around the bulk of tin being held inside.
Once the shell is stuffed with tin, they inject a mixture of Dr. Uthman's blood and Givanium, into the head of the shell.
The Givanium mixture needs some time to fuse with the rest of the body, this process is usually referred to as 'Melding'.
For most of the previous givanium animated creatures, the melding only took two to four days time. This time it took two weeks.
Their idea of using a scrap of the tumor taken from Dr. Uthman's brain, seemed to have worked a bit too well.
Not only did it boost this construct's intelligence to the level of Dr. Uthmans. The givanium reacted with the tumor and with some left over tin, it somehow managed to form a near perfect recreation of Dr. Uthmans brain.
Including all his memories.
This has caused the construct to refer to itself as Dr. Uthman when asked for identification. Even when faced with its inhuman reflection, it has also managed to rationalize its appearance, it's convinced itself that it has givanium poisoning, and that its appearance is nothing more than a hallucination.
I hope that sufficiently answered your question!
Hey everyone go check out this au (and by extension Almightyhamslice in general!) its so damn weird 🥰💞
Nabnaleena redesign yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually rlly dislike her role in the games n that makes me so mad because the concept of you having to Frankenstein a mascot together is so fucking cool wtf!!!!!!
So in my Banban Resort AU, Nabnaleena is a totally inert clay doll when the protagonist Marc comes across her. They pick up the doll and unknowingly deform it, before Banban explains Nabnaleena’s purpose to them over loudspeaker! So though they didn’t mean to hurt her, it is Marc’s fault that Nabnaleena is malformed.
Having brought her to life themself, Marc has an unsteady sense of “trust” in Nabnaleena— they don’t know what she’s capable of but they know she’s not coordinated or malicious enough to kill them. Nabnaleena, having just been born, knows nothing of her surroundings and is terrified, hardly able to communicate her distress to others. Unlike Nabnab she has functional vocal cords, but she can’t form words because she has no tongue. She’s able to groan, scream, and gurgle loudly to communicate.
I think Marc and Nabnaleena’s relationship is perhaps similar to How To Train Your Dragon— Nabnaleena is her own person and isn’t willing to be a cooperative henchman or pet. She will only be calm and let her guard down if the other person proves that they are safe and won’t hurt her. I like to think she let Marc put her bows, mask, and feather boa on but both parties were nervous and shaking, so Nabnaleena’s masked appearance is much less tidy than Banbaleena’s and Nabnab’s.
Speaking of which, you might notice her wall art design is different from her actual design. This is because she was created as a character before being created as a living being; she was planned for far in advance, practically the moment Nabnab began to lash out due to loneliness. Though, because the resort was abandoned suddenly, she could not be finished by the actual scientists.
She reminds me of the E E Cummings poem, the little horse is newlY. Like that entire poem reads like what I imagine is going through her mind. She’s an occasional ally to Marc, who understands nothing of the resort or her fellow mascots, but learns through observation. I imagine maybe she also learns she was “made wrong” in comparison to Nabnab, and develops insecurities (which could be easily played into and exploited by Sir Dadadoo). I love her so much I wish she was real lol.
Tarta redesign! I've talked a bit about him already, so it's about time I showed you what he's really like. He is as protective of his family as he is in canon, but my version has absolutely no compassion or regard for anyone OTHER than Opila and their chicks. He's a wild animal and WILL scratch and bite anyone outside his family.
To keep him in check, he was fitted with a harness that turned his mask into more of a muzzle, and his legs were cuffed together so he couldn't kick or scratch (at least, not without falling over). As you can see by the darker stains on his face, the harness rarely came off & caused him to develop rashes. Due to his cuffs, he also can't climb like Opila can. He's more ostrich than flamingo, so he runs faster and is physically heavier and stronger than Opila (not that it's very apparent, the cuffs often make him trip when he tries to run).
I imagine he was meant to be utilized similarly to Opila, but had to be strictly monitored so he wouldn't hurt anyone. He is NOT a guardian and can only be posed with and pet by park guests if he is sedated and a handler is present. You can see from his wall art that he didn't always have red spots on his chest. If you're not careful around him, he might gain more.
Ramblings abt Tarta's design under the cut!
I wanted my version of Tarta to look like the opposite of Opila! He has no sense of warmth and is sorta rooster-ish, with a sharper beak, undersized wings, and sharp red plumage that juts out of the opposite side of his tail compared to where Opila's plumage is. I wanted him to give the impression of an aggressive bird who puffs out his feathers to seem scarier to predators. I'm also particularly fascinated by his origins as "The Haze", an unused cyan Opila Bird found in the files of Banban 1 and Banban 2. The name "The Haze" alone is so mysterious and cool sounding I feel like I have to do something with it, but I just don't know what I'll do yet!!!
Ever since his inception I was curious why Tarta is depicted with opposite-facing pupils in his wallart! I kept that design feature since it's striking, but I figured I'd give it a real explanation. I suppose his mask was painted first & meant to look like he's looking backwards, but then the designer realized that it looks very silly from the front. It's like... the design was made 2D like it was only meant to be seen from one angle, only to gain a new unintended meaning in 3D space. Like, I've seen it on MLP toys before! Like the old Zecora blind bag figure that appears to have been redesigned for this exact reason!
I thought of her first because I had this exact figure as a kid! both of her eyes face backwards. I've also seen this same oversight on a Rarity figure, though I'm not sure what specific line that Rarity figure was from!
Anyhow, Tarta's eyes staring in different directions were kept/canonized because the mascot designers are desperate to make general audiences not feel terrified of their mascots lol. And he can't hurt you if he can't look at you, right? (WRONG)
unrelated! I was thinking abt how all the birds are cake themed and how each of the chicks has their own associated type of cake. I wonder what Opila and Tarta's are? I think Opila would be fruitcake and Tarta would be red velvet.
