great news everybody! it seems like the problem with my modelling was NOT in fact my code but because i have discovered a selection of GALAH stars which have incredibly incorrect effective temperatures (<- this is absolutely not the source of my problems but i can pretend that excluding these stars will fix it 👍)

actually so stoked that i found a second-hand boxset of s1 and s2 of twin peaks today, i’ve been wanting to watch it forever!! vibes of the visuals and the music are immaculate, and i am rotating special agent dale cooper in my mind-crowave

realised i’ve never shared this so: here is the red string board (padlet) i made when i first started listening to the magnus archives!

i was using it to keep track of recurring characters, characters i thought were important or connected to each other, recurring places, etc. i think i stopped midway through season 2 when things became clearer

my favourite thing about this is that in all of my initial theorising, not ONCE did i stop and think that elias would be an important character…

of course you don’t but anyways

- red and blue (a classic dynamic)

- the blue one is a sunshine character with a lot of repressed trauma who places the well-being of the innocents around him entirely onto himself; the red one has a harsh and aggressive exterior because his childhood has left him unable to trust others and so it’s easier to be obnoxious and confident and push people away than to accept his own flaws and need for help

- the red one watched a beloved family member get shot in front of him and blames himself, before later being gaslight by a morally dubious faux father figure into believing he is someone only useful as a tool in enacting a moral code he would not naturally gravitate towards

- the blue one helps the red one come to terms with his past and learn how to think for himself and use the skills he is forced to develop for good. the red one then “dies”, leaving the blue one mourning (don’t worry! the red one inexplicably comes back from the dead later)

- the red one is semi-adopted by an older sibling figure (rouge/fraziska (yes i am aware she’s younger but she calls miles her little brother)); the blue one semi-adopts a younger sibling/child figure (tails/maya+trucy)

- they have a rivalry that is more a competitive friendship based on the fact that they both consider the other their only equal and have a massive respect for the way the other is able to approach issues. their inability to clearly communicate this harms their friendship early on and increases tension. they’re very gay about it

- the blue one has An Incident to do with water (okay technically sonic is just afraid of water but whatever the point stands i’m sure something happens in cannon at some point)

- the red one has to step up and take the blue one’s place at some point when the blue one is incapacitated (sonic’s 6 months as a prisoner of war/phoenix in hospital)

- the red one feels that he has to atone for those he has “killed” in the past. this of course makes him more broody.

- everyone has their own flavour of martyr complex

- you KNOW that shadow would spit the “unnecessary feelings” line. he would fucking say that.

this morning i was like “man i really want to play Unpacking, i wonder how much it is” and got almost entirely through the process of buying it before i remembered. i literally just moved. i moved apartments a week ago. i still need to do Actual Unpacking

spent the day catching up on The Suckening while crocheting and i’m just in love with this campaign and charlie’s GMing. that horrifying sequence in The Unseen One was just fantastic, makes me really miss the Vampire: The Masquerade campaign i was in last year. i have a lot of metagame thoughts about the characters but i wanna double check the V20 rules before i say anything as i’ve only ever played V5

i need some inspiration for my setlists and a reason to practice recording/mixing, so please feel welcome to submit music requests and i’ll have a look at learning some covers, or even composing to prompts :)

taking a stab at writing ambient soundscapes/minimalist music for this film score and its simultaneously the most calming writing music has been, and also the most meticulous i’ve ever been in trying to get the sound of a particular piano right. it would be nice if i could write music at any time other than 1am though
