Everything about this picture took freakishly forever, but I'm trying to be happy with it. I think it really is the best thing I've done thus far, by a lot.
Typically, the whole idea for a painting for me springs from the lighting and the color scheme more than anything else. So I usually start with a really strong, very singular idea as far as those elements, then have to come up with what.. well, the subject even is. That wasn't the case with this, and it was really disorienting trying to work in a way that felt backwards as a result.
I'd like to say I went with the one I did because it presented really strong value contrast and shape definition but that'd be a reaaaaally big lie~.

I do not know what subtlety is, and even if I did, I wouldn't want to use it. That said, I think what this picture needs is a few lensflares and explosions. Maybe a helicopter blowing up in the background somewhere. Yeah. That's the stuff.
Detail-shots at 100% of the last four things I've painted. I was going to include non-heads/torsos of the main human subjects but naaah that's where I always put the details I like.
