Often these new fathers are on their feet fulfilling their role as the chief supporter the entire time the mother is laboring and giving birth. As someone who has been a support person at a couple of births, it is exhausting physically as well as mentally. Wanting a bed to climb into once the baby is born and the new mother is recovering is only natural.
