Is that a challenge? He's gonna stare straight at Shiro while slowly picking up a gummy and moving it towards his mouth.

Getting scruffed - again - is enough of a distraction to keep him from shoving the food in his mouth, so Shiro can succesfully grab it. Lewin just hangs there. "Why not?" he says grumpily.

Lewin looks up, intense dark blue eyes staring at Shiro. The Sylphs continue to swirl around him. "Osceola isn't here." It's stated plainly as a fact. Really, it was silly to think that he might be, because Osceola worked in the Mexico branch. Why would he be in Japan?

"Did he leave me to you?" He remembers custody being a whole point of discussion. But hadn't Osceola decided to stay? He must have been left in the care of Shiro then. Quite fast, Lewin settles on that conclusion. Okay. Then this is what he adjusts to.

"I'm tired," he tells Shiro, already moving past the subject.

Shiro had expected for Lewin to return to him after he inevitably couldn't find Osceola near the academy entrance. It seemed like a fool proof at the time and Shiro thought himself to be quite clever when he initiated it. After all, running up stairs is exhaustive work, no matter what a person's age might be!

But then he noticed the sylphs manifest and swirl around Lewin's head, and knew right then and there that his foolproof plan had gone awry. So, at a careful and deliberate pace, Shiro followed Lewin up the stairs and came to a stop just a few feet ahead of him, looking up with an apologetic and concerned expression.

"What are we pretending about?" He spoke somberly, not wanting to outright deny the accusation but gain a better understanding of where Lewin's thoughts were before going forward.

This time, Lewin does take the offered hand. It seems like Shiro wants to guide him somewhere so he'll let him. He is also exhausted, more so than he normally is. He has that feeling in his stomach again that sometimes means he's hungry.

"Maybe," he answers, letting Shiro lead the way.

The two Sylphs seem more agitated by the close proximity but stay around Lewin's head for now.

Shiro takes in a slow, deep breath, then carefully releases it through a calculated sigh. Lord knows he tried to spare this child of the odd yet harsh reality of his situation, but--

"He did." The conclusion Lewin draws on his own is viable enough for Shiro to work with, so he doesn't try to fight it or correct it. Osceola is not here, but Shiro is. The former Paladin can - and will - care for Lewin until the spell's time has run up. Then, everything can return to their relative normalcy until further notice.

Once more, Shiro offers his hand out to Lewin to grab a hold of, if he so desires. "Let us return to my place then. I have a bed for you, and food. Are you hungry?"

He sees that going into a pocket and he is calling bullshit on that excuse. "No," he says grumpily, still dangling. "Food only makes me sick when it smells bad." And the gummies doesn't.

"Because it's not for kids to eat." It is for adults, which is precisely why it's going straight into his pocket. "It will make you very sick. Do you understand?"

"Okay," he finally agrees, though he still haven't decided if he's going to follow the instructions. But he wants to be put down, which he shows by squirming a little. There's always so many rules around food, he thought Osceola had eased up on those. Then again, Shiro isn't Osceola. "I'm hungry," Lewin complains.

This fucking kid...

"Clearly you didn't smell it before you tried eating it then," Shiro mutters grumpily before explaining in a much clearer voice, "This has toxins in it that little kids cannot handle digesting without getting sick. You have to be much older to handle those ingredients. So it is not okay for you to eat those man's candies. Okay?"

"LEWIN!!"

Watch out, a nearby stick is flying right for his head.

"WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN?"

He does not think to dodge because that sounds like Fujimoto but when he turns to face the man, Lewin takes a stick straight to the forehead.

He lands comically on the ground before quickly sitting up again.

"OW! What was that for?!" he yells back.

"You disappeared on me, that's what!!" Shiro barks before offering Lewin a hand up. "Now where the hell have you been!?"

Lightning takes the hand, looking oh so confused as he stands. "I was asleep under a bush but I don't know how I got there," he says, wincing as he rubs a sore spot. "I haven't seen you since the whole Jaden thing," he whines, feeling like he's getting blaimed for something.

Friends? Oh, the Sylphs. Lewin watches them silently for a moment. "I'unno," he says. "They don't like when people touch me," he says casually. Osceola had to deal with that at the beginning too, but the Sylph learned to relax as Lewin did.

He's surpressing a yawn. "They'll get used to you." At some point. Lewin could also remove them entirely, but he doesn't want to.

Maybe is an odd answer to give to such a straight forward question. But then again, Lewin is an odd, special child. So, Shiro quietly decides that maybe means yes and begins to idly plan their meal in the back of his mind. Perhaps chicken katsu would be acceptable enough for the displaced, little, American boy...?

"Your friends seem to be upset." He casually observes, trying to make chit-chat while keeping more of an eye on the sylphs than Lewin. "Is there something I can do to help?"

Lewin's demeanour changes almost immediately. He perks up with a mixture of excitement and curiosity. "Really?" he grins. Oh man, how he wish he could remember that! "Hope it wasn't too young or that'd be aaaawkwaaard," he adds. "Did I have braces? Glasses?"

Though after his questions, he smirks. "Aw, you were worried about little ole me! Thanks, mom~"

"Feh..." Shiro's lip curls back into an annoyed sneer, but he doesn't take his agitations out any further on Lewin. The memory gap isn't his fault after all, it's just inconvenient.

"Well, the grey demons turned you into a child for the last several days," he explains in a much more calm manner while dusting the dirt and leafs off of Lewin, "And you ran off after I put you to bed last night. I was worried sick about where you were, but clearly you found a nicer place to sleep last night than the bed I made for you at the dorm."

Lewin is relieved to be put down and dutifully follows Shiro back inside. "But you were asleep," he says as if it's the most obvious explanation in the world. You don't disturb sleeping people. Besides, the floors looked pretty clean to Lewin.

Wriggly children will be set back down on their own two feet, and shall remain independent so long as they don't run off or try to eat more mysterious things off the ground.

Although with that sudden proclamation, Shiro suddenly understands a lot better why Lewin is trying to eat random things too.

"Okay." He gently sighs, then motions for Lewin to follow him back inside the dorm. "Next time you're hungry just tell me. Okay? You don't have to fend for yourself by getting random crap off the floor."

Lewin watches the man leave, carefully, hoping to maybe get a peek at this familiar. And his persistence is rewarded. It's hard to make out the details, but Lightning is pretty sure he sees a dark crow which expands into black wings. Oh-ho definitely a king of Samael, probably more space than time. What a rare familiar! He's envious.

He's so focused he doesn't notice the older man walking up from behind. His reactio is predictably small, giving Shiro a smile. "Oh, you're back!" he says. He hadn't been sure if he would have seen Fujimoto again, but considering Mephisto was the one to send him away, perhaps he shoud have assumed the King of Time would have a plan to get him back.

"A mess of his own making, really," Lewin shrugs, looking to the previously lost priest. "Couldn't stay away too long, could ya?" he grins.

Jaden lightly grunts at the impact, then glowers at Lewin while he steps further out into his own space and away from the Arc Knight's reach. Touching is not easily welcomed by this one, no matter how innocent the gesture is - or isn't. The trust he has in any given is fragile enough as is, but the trust he has in Lewin right now is at rock bottom. Jaden is all too aware of the fact that he's on enemy territory at the academy, even if he does have a special arrangement with Mephisto. Rin's beating was a stark reminder of that, and so Jaden is reluctant to let his guard drop again around anyone that isn't Dennis.

"Sure." The offered excuse is a nice touch. However, it will go unused. While it's believable and highly plausible, Jaden doesn't want to hassle explaining how, when, and where the two of them could have run into each other to the likes of Silas. It's just easier to say he got in a bar fight, or something along those lines.

Since he finally has Lewin's blessings to finally go though Jaden resumes his exiting walk away from the academy. Then, once he has several feet of distance between him and Lewin, he snaps his fingers, summoning Krobus. The void-colored, chibi crow may be difficult to make out in the dark of the night, but there's no missing the sudden expansion of his wings that quickly engulf and swallow up Jaden in a matter of seconds either, disappearing the two of them to who knows where in the world.

"He's quite the character." Shiro muses as he strolls up from behind, coming to a stop just beside Lewin. "Caught in quite a mess too, don't you think?"

Wow, even before the braces? At least it had been when he was around Osceola, that time is complicated but Lewin knows it was also before he became a real handful. His pondering is interrupted however when there's suddenly arms around his head.

"Argh!" He immediately starts squirming to get his head free but finds Shiro's grip is expertly trained to keep him in place. The scarf only does so little to protect him and ultimately he has to surrender. "I'm grateful! Uncle! Uncle!" Lewin yells for mercy.

"No braces, and no glasses. But you kept bugging me about Osceola too, amazingly." Lewin was pretty young. Probably too young, but it could have been so much worse as well. The phase they had was tricky, but a blessing in itself.

Too bad the same can't be said for his adult-self.

"Of course I was worried!!" Shiro barks as he throws his arm around Lewin, trapping him in a tight, squeezing headlock. "You were just a little kid running around on your own! You should be grateful for everything I did for you this last week!"

When he's released, Lewin flops bonelessly to the ground where he starfishes on his back. He's defeated, dead. Such a cruel evil world. "Yeah, I tended to wander at that age," Lewin grunts, waving an arm before letting it fall down again.

"If I stayed inside for too long I eventually just had to leave. Gave Osceola a few heart attacks too. Always came back though." It's his way of telling Shiro not to worry.

There's a lot of things Shiro has picked up on since raising Rin. Many of them have turned into useful skills too - such as wrangling others down in a snap and keeping control over them physically, even as they struggle to break free from the old priest. Lewin would be stuck for quite a while, if Shiro were feeling that cruel.

Thankfully for both of them, he is not.

"Good." He huffs, annoyed but appeased. "It's not raising little kids at my age, you know. You nearly gave me a heart attack with last night's disappearing act!"

Lewin tilts his head slightly to look up at Shiro, a grin on his face. "I know, mom, dad didn't deserve all that." He's being cheeky. You can't escape the label, Fujimoto.

"And I had my Sylphs, didn't I? They would have kept me safe." It's said in his usual calm tone, but if Shiro catches a peek at Lewin's eyes between the stands of hair, he'll see the intense confidence Lightning has in that statement. Confidence fueled by experience.

"Until one day you don't." Shiro growls, as if that threat even remains viable. Nevermind Lewin is a fully capable adult and an Arc Knight now. The danger of being kidnapped, or worse, is real and mom dad is worried still about it.

"You're an awful child, worrying your father like that."

Is he referring to himself or Osceola right now? The answer is yes.

Lewin laughs from his place on the ground. It sounds like Fujimoto had quite the night which perhaps isn't surprising. Lightning has always been a handful according to Osceola, and the fact that the grey demon changed him into one must have been a surprise.

"Thank you for looking after me, mom," he grins to Shiro, bringing up his hands to form a heart shape with his fingers. "I wuv u~"

He's beginning to realize that, but still fights it anyway out of principle. He is, after all, a fumbling father and not a super powered mom who can do it all without breaking a sweat. "I didn't deserve it either!

"And I wanted to be sure of your safety." He huffs in annoyance, knowing well enough that the sylphs offered just that for Lewin but Shiro still felt agitated anyway. Such low level demons could be easily thwarted by anything the Illuminati might bring out if and when they showed up again to snatch someone - like a young Lewin. "Clearly they had you covered last night though, so I'll let it go." With an angry pout.

Lewin waves after Fujimoto before getting up, dusting off his poncho. Man, he wonders what other adventures little-him had. Probably some great ones! But it's time to return to his office and catch up on some lost work.

"You better!"

He's had enough of this nonsense too. Lewin's been found, he's not dead or injured, so Shiro's (grumpily) returning to the dorm for a much needed and well earned nap.

I can't believe Shiro didn't say he loves you.

worst. mom. ever.

He puts on his best sad face. "I know! The absolute cruelty! I thought Shiro cared for my poor soul!"

"Why won't you love me, mom?!"

The theatrics continues. "See the abuse I have to live through! All I ever did was love you, mom!"

"But how am I supposed to know that you love me if you never tell me, the poor adopted son. You'll make dad sad!"
