this is so incredibly important, and needs 2 be talked about more. u guys should read this, system or not !!!!!!

Early Post-System Awareness and how damaging it is.

As I'm coming up into around a year Post-System Awareness, I thought I would make this post as a sort of advice for newly discovered systems and as a look into the affects of the early stages post-system awareness.

As many including myself have both seen and experienced, a concerning lot of newly discovered systems will often try to be open about their disorder to anyone that may listen. These systems often don't understand the dangers that can come from this, and how damaging it can be to one's mental state.

Systemhood is an extremely difficult struggle, and while the hardships vary from system to system, having to handle alters depending on an alters role, losing sometimes important parts of memory, disassociation, social pressures and stereotypes, as well as fakeclaiming are common struggles within the community. Being a system is never just 'having alters'. Being a system is a lifelong challenge that can only truly be overcome by therapy and other psychiatric services.

The danger of being open about this aspect of someone's identity is immense. As my girlfriend put it, "the cycle of masking and finally feeling comfortable around people and then realising theyre not safe aand putting the mask back on." Systems are often jeopardized by people who want to put a one-size-fits-all box on a disorder that presents itself differently in every person. They believe that, if a system doesn't fit their standards for what a system should look like, they aren't a system.

Whether it's losing friends, being fakeclaimed, or both, being so open about a disorder so stereotyped is unsafe for most people. This doesn't mean that all systems should hide their identities, especially when safe spaces for systems are hard to find without being open, rather that many people should be careful with who knows about your disorder and who doesn't. As a system who has experienced losing several friends due to me discovering I had DID, it may just be safer to keep your identity as a system with close friends/family who you trust deeply.
