Fred Astaire (Top Hat, Shall We Dance, Easter Parade)—Not just a dancer (but oh, what a dancer), we should also show nothing but respect to a man whose characters had the good sense to repeatedly fall in love with Ginger Rogers over the course of ten movies together!! He was such a style icon that even Cary Grant wanted to know where he got his clothes. Astaire was one of those men whose intense charisma and talent is best understood when seeing him in motion!! A genuinely lovely person who worked very hard and did his utmost to promote the standards of how dancing should look and be filmed on screen. ok i have a lot of feelings about linda darnell. she was so complex and messy and talented and just such a tragic figure and deserved so much better. her mom basically ignored the rest of her kids in favor of pushing linda into hollywood, which led to her missing out on a lot of childhood experiences, prevented her from enrolling in college, and caused some mental health issues later in life. it’s especially heartbreaking that she met such a preventable end so early in life, and i always wonder what might’ve happened if she had been able to make more movies. she also disliked the hollywood social scene, which i think is totally valid of her. anyway, i loved her in a letter to three women and unfaithfully yours, and especially in no way out, which i think is one of her better roles, really showcasing her acting ability. and the fact that she never really got recognition keeps me up at night,, in my heart she has all the oscars

Josephine Baker (The Siren of the Tropics, ZouZou)— Josephine Baker was an American born actress, singer, and utter icon of the period, creating the 1920s banana skirt look. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion film. She fought in the French resistance in WWII, given a Legion of Honour, as well as refusing to perform in segregated theatres in the US. She was bisexual, a fighter, and overall an absolutely incredible woman as well as being extremely attractive.
