A Drunk Mind Speaks a Sober Heart - Husk x Reader
Ever since you decided to give redemption a shot and stay at the Hazbin Hotel, you quickly learned which of your fellow roommates (hotel-mates?) you could have the most fun with. Charlie was always cheery and go-lucky, but good luck trying to get her to do just about anything that would jeopardize the hotelâs reputation of a sin-free environment. Vaggie wasnât exactly one for going out (or even hanging around with any of you, except for Charlie, of course), so she was off the table. Alastor was⌠well, Alastor was creepy as Hell, so even if he did want to go out, you would have a sneaking suspicion that he was planning something more sinister. Sir Pentious could go both ways. He always rejected going out, but if you managed to drag him to a bar and he got drunk, it was actually the funniest thing ever. Nobody ever invited Niffty out because⌠God knows what would happen if she escaped your line of sight.
This left Angel and Husk. Angel always knew how to have a good time, but after learning of the abuse that he has to endure during work, you realized that his constant drinking and partying was just a way for him to cope with his trauma. Feeling awful for him, it left you mostly turning to Husk whenever you wanted to have some fun.
At first glance, Husk was kind of a prick. He always seemed uninterested with anything that anybody had to say, constantly complaining every time he was forced to do one of Charlieâs eccentric âbonding exercisesâ. But youâve had enough late nights at the bar to know that if you really got to know him, Husk was a sweetheart. He was fiercely protective of his friends and gave excellent advice, never turning you away when you've had a shitty day and just need to talk.
When you first arrived at the hotel, you were so very grateful for the free lodging, but still felt like you were isolated from the already-established friend circles of the group. At the end of the day, though, Husk, however standoff-ish he wants to appear, never turned you down for a drink and a good conversation. As embarrassing as it is to admit⌠you think you've developed quite an attraction towards him. Not only was he a great listener and the only person who seemed to give a damn about what you had to say, but he was adorable, too. The way his wings flapped slightly when he laughed, the little ear-twitches he gets when heâs startled, everything. Out of all the sinners in Hell, he seemed like the only guy that still had a bit of humanity left in him.
This is the driving factor that left you sitting at his bar, still striking conversation with him through the early hours of the morning, almost every night. Tonight was no different, either.Â
Walking to the bar and taking what you have now claimed as âyour stoolâ, you don't see Husk doing his normal barkeeping chores. In fact, you don't see him at all. That is, until he bursts through the main door of the hotel carrying some crates filled with bottles of a green-looking drink. You rush over to him to lighten his load, a sigh of relief escaping his mouth. As you both reach the bar and set down the crates, you ask,Â
âSo⌠whatâs this?âÂ
As he unloads the bottles from the crates to the bar, he responds,Â
âApparently some good shit! I struck a deal with the owner of the club down there, apparently their bar is the only place that sells it, until now! Cost me a pretty penny, but it's supposed to have you seeing stars after only a couple glasses. Wanna give it a try? Shit, I think weâve got ourselves enough to last until we all get redeemed!â
âSure, why not.â you reply.Â
I mean, itâs not often that anything exciting happens in Hell, and this was the closest to an âexcitingâ experience that youâll get for a while. When he finished unloading the crates, he placed two glasses on the bar and filled them to the brim with the green liquid.Â
âAbsinthe, it looks like. Hopefully Charlie won't be too pissed, at least it'll bring more drunks like you and I into this shitholeâ he says and laughs.Â
While he immediately downs his glass, cringing at the taste, you smell it suspiciously.Â
âAre you sure this is safe? I mean, you bought it from a club owner youâve never met.â you ask. âDoll, what the Hellâs gonna happen? We're gonna double die?âÂ
Well, he has a point. Plugging your nose, you sip from the glass, suppressing a small gag. This better be worth it.Â
While carrying on your normal random conversations, you noticed Husk slowly becoming more unkempt and loud. This was a very odd sight, as he could hold his liquor like nobody's business. To be fair, though, he had downed about 3 glasses in the past hour. You were still working on your first. If this stuff is as strong as he said it was, he may genuinely be wasted right now. You could not only tell this from his progressively increasing volume, but also from the topics that he was talking about. Normally, he preferred being the listening ear, the shoulder to cry on. He did chime in every now and then, but nothing intensely personal. But tonight, he seemed ready to tell you just about anything. While you guys were on the topic of money, you were quickly brought to the topic of gambling.
âSo, you've talked about all the gambling you did when you were alive⌠but I don't think I've ever seen you gamble, or, Hell, even play a card game. What happened?â you ask.
As you ask this question, you can see something change in Huskâs look. Did you say something wrong?
âI- I dont wanna talk about it.â he manages to hiccup out.
âWhat, didya lose that bad?â you chuckle. âMust've been a ton of money if you're still this upset.â you say.Â
He looks into the distance, fixating on anything but the current conversation. You weren't used to him actually avoiding conversation like this.
âOh, um⌠Look, Iâm sorry if I said something-â
âDonât apologize.â he cuts you off. âI figure I should tell you anyway.â
âTell me what?â you ask.
âI quit gambling because, well -â he hesitates, thinking of the right words to say without dropping the entire mood of the room.
âI- I used to be an overlord.â
Huh? What?! Husk? The drunk bartender⌠used to be an overlord?
âReally?â you ask. âI have - so many questions. But⌠but why did that force you to quit gambling?â
âWell, you could say that I relied on luck for much of my power. I would collect souls and gamble them away to increase my status among the other overlords. That was until⌠that was until I met him.â he motions to the Radio Demonâs room.Â
âAlastor?â you ask.Â
âHe made me an offer that was too enticing to refuse. If I won, he would grant me power beyond my wildest dreams - all the souls I could possibly make use of.â
âAnd if you lost?â you wonder.
âHe - He would get my soul.â
Realization hits when you see where this conversation is leading to. So Alastor⌠owned Husk? No wonder he seemed miserable! Suddenly, you felt bad for all the times you ran to complain to him and ask for advice, poor thing was probably dealing with enough of his own trauma.Â
âOh, Husk. I- I donât know what to say.â
âItâs okay Doll. What's done is done, no use in dwelling over it now.â he sighs.
âBesides,â he says, âhe can have my soul. I think the only thing that still gets me through every day is knowing I have a heart. Thatâs what really matters. So, it doesn't matter who has my soul, but who I can trust with my heart.âÂ
Wow. Wasted Husk is⌠insightful? Sweet? You had never heard him become so open about his backstory, his emotions.Â
âThatâsâŚsweet, Husk. I hope that you know that you can always trust me, with your heart and anything else.â
He blushes at your words, smiling. âY/N, you already have my heart. Youâve had it since the very first day you walked into this hotel. Ever since you first spoke to me, Iâve had something to look forward to at the end of the day. You give me a reason to actually enjoy this shit hole. Thank you, yâknow, for being here.â
Thereâs no way he just said that! Does Husk⌠like you too?! Taking this pure honesty as a sign of his obvious inebriation, you take away his fourth glass from him.Â
âAlright, mister, I think itâs time we both head to bed. Weâve got a long day of âtrust exercisesâ to look forward youâ you say while taking his hand and guiding his stumbling body to his room. As you lead him to his door and part ways from him, you swear you could hear him say something under his breath.
âI love you, Y/Nâ
********************THE NEXT MORNINGâŚ********************
When you awoke from your deep slumber, you could hear the voices of essentially everyone else in the lobby. As you leave your room to greet them, you see everybody but Husk.
âWhereâs Husk?â you ask.
âMaybe the bitch finally got up and left like he always says heâs going to!â Angel replies, laughing.
You roll your eyes, going back into the hallway and knocking on Huskâs door. When you hear no reply, you peek into his room. Heâs passed out on his bed, not even underneath the covers. Damn, I guess that stuff really is strong. You slowly approach his bed and stroke his head, softly saying,
âHusk! Itâs time to get up. If we aren't out for Charlieâs exercises she may just kill us.â
He groans, slowly opening his eyes, clearly flustered that you are in his room and seeing him like this. Â
âOh Satan, uh, yeah, I guess it is that time.â he mumbles.
As you move to leave his room, you turn back.
âHey, Husk. I really appreciate what you said last night. I don't know if I made it clear, but⌠Iâm glad you told me.â
He blinks slowly at you, clearly confused.
âWh- What did I say last night?â he says, internally panicking. If he drunkenly confessed to you, he will literally crumble into a ball right here.
âYâknow, that stuff about me being the only one who has your heart, the one who makes âthis shit holeâ bearable?â
His eyes widened. He could literally die of embarrassment right here, right now.Â
âOh my Satan I didnât mean to say that - I mean, I did, but just not in that way - you really don't have to say that you feel the sa-â Husk is cut off by your lips meeting with his in a sweet embrace, one that he never wants to leave.
âHusk. Itâs okay. I⌠I feel the same way. Iâm so glad you told me, whether in a drunken rant or not.â you giggle, leading him by the hand out of his room. Whatever faced you today would be bearable simply because you knew that at the end of the day, you will always have Husker.
I love your Husk pieces! He's my favorite =^.^= I wanna hug the shit out of him đ
If you have time, could you do one where Charlie planned a movie night for "bonding" lol and the reader ends up falling asleep on Husk? Everyone ships them and encourages him to confess to her? So much fluff please! Thanks hon! ^.^
A/N: This is so adorable!! Love this! I hope you enjoy! XD

âUntil I Smile at Youâ - Husk x Reader

After living at the Hazbin Hotel for a while, Charlieâs âtrust exercisesâ had become less of an annoying nuisance and simply a part of daily life. Actually, they were kind of refreshing and - dare you say - fun! They ranged from trust falls and share circles to your personal favorite - movie night. Movie night happened once a week and every week the person who chose the movie rotated. This week was supposed to be Angelâs turn, but ever since he chose his movie to be the most graphic porn anybody had ever had the displeasure of seeing, he was banned from choosing the movies. Instead of Angel, the group decided to let Alastor choose. He was always a marvel, as his movies ranged from silent films to disgustingly gorey horror movies. Tonight, however, he picked a noir detective film that he enjoyed while he was still alive (not before endlessly complaining about how radio is the superior media form, though).
One thing that nobody could stand about Alastorâs movies was how much he talked during them. I guess it's because he's so used to working in radio that he cannot comprehend that maybe, just maybe, not everybody wants to hear his voice all the time. He would either explain every little detail about the leading actors or talk about a living memory that he associated with the specific scene. This night, though, Alastor seemed so enamored by the movie that he was completely silent. You were sitting on the couch with Alastor, Angel, and Husk, and found your eyes getting slightly heavier with every passing minute. The combination of the dark room, boring movie, and precious silence was just what you needed to drift into a peaceful slumber. Slowly resting your head and body on the irresistibly soft and warm cat demon beside you, your consciousness fades in and out until your mind is finally met with sleep.
The second Husk felt your head meet his shoulder in a gentle embrace, he froze. He had only ever imagined this happening, and was nowhere near prepared for it to actually happen tonight. Despite his hard and tough facade, Husk craved nothing more than soft affection, and knowing that you trusted him enough to not disturb your slumber flattered him. He remained completely still (so as not to wake you) for more than an hour until the movie finished. Charlie, using the remote to find another movie, said,Â
âThank you guys for spending tonight with me! This was amazing! I think Iâm going to put on another movie, if anybody wants to stay down here, but youâre welcome to go upstairs and go to slee-'' she is cut off when she turns around to see you asleep on Husk, practically beaming with joy. âAWWWWW-â she is cut off by Huskâs âShh!â, partially because he is embarrassed but also because he doesnât want you to wake up in embarrassment. This caused everybodyâs attention to turn to the two of you, not quite as surprised as Charlie.
âI mean, are we shocked? Heâs been fawning over Y/N ever since she moved in. Donât shame the poor guyâŚâ Angel says in a mocking tone.
Everyoneâs eyes slightly divert, not wanting to completely show that Huskâs attraction to Y/N is anything short of obvious.
âShut the fuck up, manâ Husk replies.Â
âIâm not saying that sheâs told me that she likes you back⌠buuuuut you should definitely just tell her. Trust me.â Charlie says, literally gleaming with excitement.Â
Hearing this, Huskâs insides flip, his internal monologue running wild.
âDid she- does she- could Y/N actually like someone like me? Sheâs just so⌠perfect. I donât deserve her. But - letâs just - donât get your hopes up, man. This could just be Charlie being Charlie, saying shit to make people leave their comfort zones or something.â
âAlright idiots, letâs not wake her up.â he says, sighing and gently picking you up.Â
âI hear a single word about this tomorrow, and Iâll kill ya.â he says, while quietly walking to your room.Â
He rolls his eyes while listening to Angel making fun of him and Charlie trying earnestly to defend you guys, saying something along the lines of âBut this is how Vaggie and I started to fall in love!â
Opening your door as quietly as possible, he gently places you down on your bed. Covering you with blankets, he turns to leave until he hears your soft voice call to him:
âWas all that stuff they said about you true?â
Shit. You heard? Should he deny it? Pretend he didnât even hear you?
âWhat?â
Deny it is.
âThe stuff that Charlie and Angel said⌠about you liking me. Is that true?â you ask.
âI donât know what kind of dream you were having, but everyone was dead silent during the movie, because, yknow, bonding time or whatever.â
He was avoiding your gaze until now, hoping that you would just accept the lie and go back to sleep. Instead, when he looked at you, he was met with your disbelieving face staring right back at him.Â
âMhm.â you say sarcastically.Â
Moments of awkward silence lead to Husk trying to make a quick escape, muttering goodnight and walking to your door. Heâs halfway out of the doorway when he hears your voice again.
âItâs a shame, I was hoping that what they were saying was true.â you say teasingly, just loud enough for him to come back into the room.
âWhat did you say?â he asks.
âOh, nothingâ you reply, smugly.Â
âDonât do that.â he says, clearly intrigued but trying to seem annoyed.Â
âDo what?â you say, teasingly.
âSatan, just tell me what you said. I donât like playing games.â he says.
âOh, but, clearly you do, if youâve been âfawningâ over me since the day I've walked in, yet.. said nothing.â
He looks - embarrassed. Almost hurt.Â
âFine, yeah, I like you. No need to rub it in and be an asshole about it, I know you donât like me.â
You look at his diverting eyes and immediately regret your teasing tone.
âOh, Husk, I wasnât making fun of you, I was just being stupid. Come here.â you say, patting the spot next to you on the bed.Â
He sits next to you, looking confused.
âHere.â you say, while holding his hands in yours.Â
âListen. I wasnât trying to embarrass you. Iâm sorry if it came across that way. I mean, obviously I like you too. Was it not clear?â you giggle.Â
Huskâs eyes widened in shock.
âWhat- I mea- You like me? Why?â he blurts out.
âWhy? Come on, donât be dumb. Youâre the funniest person I know, youâre always willing to listen to me, and youâve never once turned me away when I needed help. And, you're truly handsome, but thatâs just a bonus. Youâve made being trapped in Hell actually enjoyable, which is something that you should be proud of. I wake up everyday excited to see you, to talk to you. I just wish you would've told me that you liked me sooner (and yourself)â you say.
Huskâs eyes are glued on you like youâre the last thing heâll ever see, like he has to memorize your every feature before he blinks. He has never been more enamored with anybody before.Â
In lack of a better response, all he can blurt out is, âThank you!?â
You giggle, a slight blush creeping up your face.Â
âAnd you are clearly tired. How about you sleep in here tonight? We can cuddle, or talk, or just sit with each other.â you ask.
âThat - That sounds great.â he says, truly letting his guard down for the first time in years. As he lays next to you, finally becoming truly comfortable, he swears that he can see a white, fuzzy hand holding a phone by the slightly-ajar door.
âAngel, if thatâs you by that door right now, youâre gonna want to run.â
You can hear the spiderâs screams of âI GOT IT GUYS! THE FULL VIDEO!! AHAHAHAHA!â as Husk reluctantly leaves the bed.
âExcuse me,â he says, âIâm gonna go take care of this. Iâll be back.â
As he leaves, you start to realize how you got from the couch to the bed in the first place. Smiling to yourself, you savor the fact that, though you were condemned to eternal damnation, these people that you have found could not have created a better heaven for you.
