I Could Name So Many Other Instances But These Are The Ones At The Front Of My Mind - Tumblr Posts

So I have this friend, and I’ve known them for a while now. They’ve always been a bit odd, always very rule oriented and sucks up to the teachers a lot, and pretty cold to a lot of people around them. A big teacher’s pet. Pretty sure they look down on them for being less ‘mature and idiotic’. Which is a fair assessment, but it means they get a lot of teasing.

They’re not a terrible person, but recently, they just haven’t been great at all.

First of all, they talk about sex and sexual topics with no problem whatsoever, and basically ridicules the rest of our discomfort for talking about such topics. Which is fine, without the whole ridiculing part. It would be better if they respected our preference on talking about different subjects rather than that. But it’s not terrible, just a little disturbing and uncomfortable to be about.

Then the other day, we were having a conversation and at some point, we mentioned how one of us has just ascended the idea of gender altogether (they’re genderfluid, and we like joking about it a lot), and this guy goes ‘What are you talking about? She’s clearly a girl! She’s a girl and always will be!’ One of my friends tried explaining it to them, but one of their responses was ‘What people are is determined by what’s down here.’ Then we explained that sex and gender are different to one another and they stopped. But that was just a very unpleasant situation I just keep thinking about.

Another thing is that whenever me and my friends start to banter or whatever, they make us apologise or say things are going too far whenever we call each other ‘Bitch’ or something. No one is getting hurt or anything, we’re all just very playful and like to banter quite a lot. My partner got told off by them for calling me a creature, even I took no offence to it at all, and we were just having a casual conversation. It’s started getting worse recently, and it’s getting annoying, because it’s difficult to do anything around them without getting told off for it by them and feeling basically judged.

Then today, at lunch, I was trying to explain asexuality and aromanticism to them, since they were confused on what the terms were. I got asked ‘So its a spectrum like autism?’ ‘Then how are you attracted to [-] if you’re asexual?’ and we tried to explain that relationships are not just built up based on sexual attraction, and the expression on their face hurt honestly. The topic was soon brushed aside and they just started talking about games to another one of our friends as usual. During the conversation, one of my friends slipped up a little when explaining the difference between autism and the AroAce spectrum, and accidentally said ‘wrong with their brains’ (which they quickly corrected, and apologised for since they didn’t mean it like that) and they reply with ‘you did say wrong but I don’t disagree’ which just felt wrong and horrible

They’re not the greatest at social cues, and basically ignores most people who try to interact with them, yet still considers themself as ‘kind and a good team worker, as well as good at communication.’ They try to act like a teacher in some lessons, and they don’t understand why people can’t think like them, and expresses it a lot. This causes a lot of people to dislike them. And recently, I find it really uncomfortable being in their presence, and I just don’t know what to do at this point. Do I stay friend with them? Do I try to call them out on it? I don’t want to straight up unfriend them for something they might not being able to help. Like, it’s just stressful at this point honestly

Sorry for this random vent lmao

(Name and gender kept anonymous for obvious reasons)
