I'm a really big fan of your work! I love how much depth you put into your characters, which I have tried to put into my own interactive fiction. Do you have any writing tips or really any advice? I also wanted to ask, do you have any ideas for other IFs you're planning to write?

I remember you once asked me this and it's good to see you've been working on your own IF! 🥰

Since you like the depth of my characters (thank you for the kind words!), I'd like to offer some advice on that. One key aspect you could focus on is nurturing the relationships between your characters. Try to truly understand how Character A interacts uniquely with each of the other characters in your story.

I firmly believe that people aren't the same when they're with everyone they know, and this facet adds rich layers to their personalities. So, delve deep into exploring how each character's distinct traits and past experiences shape their interactions.

I don't have a lot of writing advice because this is also my very first IF and honestly the first time I've written so much LOL I think @if-seal could help you out though! You can send in any writing questions and hopefully our dear seal will answer hehe. 🦭

As for my future projects, I do have a few ideas simmering in my brain but I'm keeping them close to my chest for now! 🤭 If you're anything like me (a koala with no energy) I would advice you to focus on one thing at a time, things get messy when you have too much on your plate.

I have been a big fan of @adoriels-tears-if for a long time, I think since the first time the demo was released, and I just recently found the author's tumblr account, so I thought I would post this little movie poster I made in-between writing and homework, just to destress and get my mind off everything. The art is nowhere near perfect, but I love the characters, especially my orc Boi, Corden, and I can't wait to actually meet him in the demo. Like I said, the writing of this interactive fiction is just so good that I kept thinking about "what if" it were a movie and how it would look, so I made this little thing. This is how I imagine the characters, so if I got the characteristics wrong, I'm so sorry. Anyway, enjoy.

Hi! Omgggg I love your interactive fiction and I was wondering if you were planning to let our werewolf MC have kids in the story if our vamp MC were to meet them. If not it is completely fine! No pressure but I am headcanoning in my head and vamp MC's kid and Werewolves MC's kid get together in the future. Ahhhh it's just so cute to me!!! 😆😆😆

My plan is to neither confirm nor deny whether or not Blood Moon MC has had children or not. I want players to be able to headcanon whichever outcome they prefer.

You can headcanon futures too. Have fun! Though, if you headcanon Blood-Moon-MC's-kid hooking up with Thicker-Than-MC's-kid and are picturing them having kids then those grandkids would have a 50% shot at being werewolves... while also having a vampire lord for a grandparent... and I kinda love the mess that that is.

Hi, I love your interactive fiction so much. Finn reminds me so much of one of my ROs from my Interactive Fiction and it makes me giggle like an idiot every time. I just wanted to ask, sorry if this has already been asked, but on the topic of Eirik, is it normal for royals or even people in your world to marry family members? I just wanted to ask because throughout our own history it was seen as completely normal, especially in Scottish and English culture, so I just wanted to know in your fantasy world if the MC will be shunned or people disgusted not because of who Eirik is but because he is their cousin.

Anyway, the main setting of the game takes loose inspiration from different european monarchies so consanguine marriage are normal, especially if its a mean to consolidate a line of succession and power to the upper class and/or family. It's the main reason I allowed Eirik to be an RO. :) Eirik is a hard character to justify as an RO without some sort of plausible foundation outside of just 'feelings.'

How would the the main cast feel about an MC that was heartbroken right after the big breakup... But once they realized how much they were much fitted to (the other RO) they ended up just super happy and grateful and genuinely happy for Helene and Aedan? Especially with Aedric lmao just totally marry the little brother and be grateful for being dumped instead of bitter or jealous

Aw, if MC felt genuinely happy for Helene and Ædan’s relationship (as in they forgive Helene and Ædan and wish them happiness), I think everyone would be like, “You’re too nice for this world, MC,” but in an affectionate yet exasperated tone.

When Helene and Ædan see how much happier MC is with either RO, Ædric would give their disgruntled faces a smug smile as he gives MC a kiss on the cheek, while Cyfrin would give them a menacing smile as he gently holds MC closer to his chest.

(I can't help but imagine both of these happening for the v-poly that's still incubating in my imagination, like if the three of them were together when they run into Helene and Ædan 🥲)

So, I got a power bill last week. Which, naturally, resulted in me throwing myself dramatically down across furniture and wailing about the state of things.

But then I remembered I have stuff that people can buy and I haven't talked about this buyable stuff in a while. And so, in honour of this power bill, here are things you can buy that support me:

Blood Moon is an interactive novel about werewolves. If you've never played an interactive novel before, they're like those old choose-your-own-adventure books except much bigger, much messier, and much more likely to contain sex. In Blood Moon, the reader takes on the role of a (you guessed it) werewolf as they defend their territory against vampires and fall in love with a werewolf of your choosing.

You can choose the gender of your character and the romance options are queer inclusive. You also don't have to romance anyone for all those awesome aces out there.

Fair warning: it does get a little bloody at moments, as wars between werewolves and vampires tend to.

You can buy it on the app store, via Hosted Games, or on Steam.

There is also a sequel in the works.

Thicker Than follows on from the events of Blood Moon but can also be played as a standalone game. This time, the reader takes on the role of a newly turned vampire as they try to survive their first decade as an undead lord. In this game you can scheme, seduce, or slaughter your way to power... or just survive the machinations of vampire politics as best you can.

As with the previous game, there are several romanceable characters, all queer inclusive.

This game is still a WIP but you can play the demo free here.

I also wrote a novel.

I wrote it back in 2018 when I was going through some stuff, so there is a lot of stuff in this book. But, I'm genuinely still really proud of it and so glad that it's out there in the world.

Crying Wolf follows the story of twin brothers (who just happen to be werewolves) as they get accused of a crime and have to survive an unfair and unjust criminal justice system. It is technically a romance (because my editors insisted), but I think of it much more as a family drama.

I published it through a small indie press. You can buy direct from them here, or you can buy a physical, signed copy from my KoFi page. I'm sorry they're a bit more expensive there, postage is a killer.

Around 15k words were added to chapter one and 12k to chapter two. The demo now has a total of 100k words;

Now the choices that will unlock the madness and fury domain are labeled.

Added time and location to each memory jump to better situate the reader.

Hi, me again. I love your IF, and I wanted to ask (no pressure). How about deep in a relationship when Ardent's niece asks, "Auntie MC, when am I going to get a cousin?"

How would Ardent react if MC just looked at him with a soft smile? "Don't worry, sweet heart; we are going to be working on it soon." Implying that MC would like kids.

Always appreciate the love and support ~ Looking at Ardent, he wouldn't look like the type to want kids. He comes across as somewhat cold and rough around the edges. Of course, that is if you see him on his own. When with his niece it's very apparent that he does have a soft side. He wouldn't be put off by the idea. He might even feign surprise when he hears MC say that. (Just know he would be lying if he said he didn't think about that very topic before.) "Your auntie is lucky, we're gonna start on that sooner than they think." Ardent playfully ruffles his niece's hair, before leaning over to give MC a kiss on the cheek.

This Insidious Dawn is a dark fantasy IF wherein you play as a vampire, employed under the clandestine League of the Third God to hunt down anything -- everything - that does not belong in this world. But you do not belong here either, Warden. Demo tba.

☼ SYNOPSIS

The League saved you. Rewrote your life- gave you a chance to be more than a bloodstarved vampyr. Or did they?

You remember nothing of your past before the League; nothing but blood and indescribable agony, nothing but the thrumming of your heart stilling- and then beginning again, stilted and wrong. That was over a decade ago, the memories now faint and the connection quivering. They've been replaced, overwritten by years of blades clashing, body aches, and hollow hunger.

You started out weak. Starving, skin-and-bones, desperate for any reprieve you could get your hands on. Now, you're strong, each hunt -- each cut - giving you just enough energy to keep your worn body going. Some people would call it cruel, to keep a sentient being on the edge of death. Most people, though, would say that you're a vampire, so you hardly count as sentient.

Regardless of the morality of it, the method was effective. You were one of -- no, the most - efficient Warden the League had to offer.

And then a hunt went wrong. And now you're dead. But- a vampire (no, not a vampire; a vampyr) can never truly die. So you're back. But is it really you?

☼ FEATURES

↠ Customize your Warden. Appearance, gender, pronouns, and personality are all up to your choices as the player.

↠ This is a psychological horror first and foremost. It will have themes of dehumanization and derealization, amongst others. CWs will be offered.

↠ A character-driven plot where your choices impact the story.

↠ A cast of four consisting of The Acolyte, The Commander, The Savior, and The Forgotten, any of which you can optionally romance no matter your Warden's gender.

☼ CAST

↠ THE ACOLYTE

As with any vampire, you are accompanied by an acolyte to keep you in check and ensure that your hunts go well- as well as to mend any Gorges that riftspawn might crawl out of. Constantine Nimecidus fills this role, in your case (ae/aer). Ae is sharp-tongued, with a chronic lack of patience towards the people and world around aer, and can come across as snappy or rude. In other instances still, aer sarcastic, dry, and often untimely humor can offer a quick relief from the tension of any situation- or make it several times worse. Despite aer casual, laidback nature in the face of most events, ae places utmost importance on aer job, and quickly becomes intense whenever ae feels as if ae or aer position are being in any way threatened. You've spent years going on hunts with aer at this point, but the connection has never transcended the necessary 'I save you, you save me' exchange. Ae seems wary of you.

Constantine is a bit shorter than most, standing at 5'3. Ae has broad shoulders and hips, and is thickset with both muscle and fat. Aer amber skin is dappled with symmetrical pale patches, especially prevalent around aer eyes and mouth, and the lack of pigmentation has bled into aer hair in some spots, giving the dark auburn eye-catching streaks of white. Said hair is curly and cut shorter along the sides than the back is, and ae spends an awful lot of time preening it. Aer eyes are a striking, slightly luminescent bronze, and aer pupils appear instead of black as molten gold, shifting slightly in color to match aer emotions at any given moment. Ae has full lips and slightly upturned, monolid eyes. Ae favors shades of brown, tan, and orange in aer outfit, and ae near-constantly dons a rich red capelet with fur trimming around the hood.

↠ THE COMMANDER

Ex-commander of the Serpent's Guard-turned vampire. You'd personally never had a run-in with Alvaros Vepir until just recently (he/him). He's gruff, jaded, and withdrawn- exactly what you'd expect out of the man who gave his life for his queen only to nearly die (again) for it. It's hard to say, though, how much of his time as the commander he truly remembers. Alvaros is a poet's dream, the hero in an epic-turned-tragedy. He keeps everybody at arm's length, never allowing them to learn more than what the stories and theatrics tell of him. This is especially true of you- the vampire who was sent to reign him in, turn him from a rogue vampyr into a soldier of the League. Despite his emotional avoidance of you, though, he seems quite interested in you. Maybe it's the fact you're one of the few to have bested him in combat. Maybe it's just that 'vampiric charm' that old legends tell about (but that never seems to work outside of fights). Maybe it's because he remembers you.

Alvaros is intimidating in every manner. He stands at 6'4, his whole body is lean and scarred, and the black sclerae encircling dark green irises certainly does him no favors in lessening the effect. Before you were dispatched to retrieve him, you couldn't have said what he looked like; as the commander, he'd worn the veil regular of high-ranking members of the Serpent's Ring, leaving nothing but the back of his head exposed. Now, you know of his face well enough that you could probably recognize him in a crowd. With fawn skin dotted by freckles, hooded eyes, and a distinctive hooked nose, Alvaros is exactly what one would expect of a native of southern Ghel- save for his hair. Instead of the expected brown or black, his hair is a muddy blonde, and it has slight waves that turn into full curls at the tips. He maintains it short, never reaching past his chin. His face is scarred (his everything is, really), with a particularly nasty gash reaching from his left eyebrow down to his right jaw. It just barely misses his right eye.

↠ THE SAVIOR

An acolyte? You think so, anyways. Suri Revlece is the woman who saved you (she/her). You don't know whether or not she's even with the League, but she certainly looks like an acolyte. You don't know what she was doing there, either, but she seems willing to answer any of your questions while you recover- as long as they aren't personal. She's kind enough, but seems a little...off. She's finicky, always looking over her shoulder. She's running from something, but she doesn't seem to know what. She appears to believe that she and you have some type of camaraderie, although you've never met. But there's something to be said for the sheer strength of her magic- you've never seen an acolyte's shimmer burn a riftspawn like that. Never seen one with an eye glowing that bright, either. She's an anomaly- one that you're sure the headman at your partner's spire would be more than glad to have amongst their ranks, but then the mere idea of it had her denying it with vehemence. It seems like she has a history with it.

Suri has a mesmerizing look to her. The deep brown of her skin, near-black of her hair, and dark garb are contrasted with bright pops of color. One eye is a brightly glowing orange, the pupil nearly white, and the other is a misty grey, its almond shape deformed by the burn scars warping the left side of her face. That dark hair, braided and reaching down to about her hips, is decorated by light brown and gold beads engraved with runes that seem to serve to channel her magic. Her frame is lanky and she's long-limbed, reaching just above what most would think of as an 'average height', at 5'8. Below a brown leather cloak, more runed jewelry decorates her wrists and fingers, and her hands are tattooed in shades of bronze. The burn upon her face is not the only such injury she has suffered; her palms are burnt the slightest bit, and similar scars wrap around her arms. She has a broad nose and thick heart-shaped lips, and light stubble sits above the top lip.

↠ THE FORGOTTEN

You don't know who they are anymore. Who are they? (he/they/she)

(for those of you who don't know twine, each colored dot represents a different passage in the story. i use vertical separation for chronological ordering like 1-2-3 and horizonal separation for different branches in the narrative like 4a-4b-4c)

also peep the passage count. i've hardly even started writing TID and it also has less UI/coding passages (the clusters in the top left of each) than AFHMB yet it has. that many overall already. help.

This made me laugh so hard it's going to be part on the actual story.

Here's a snippet of how I think the RO's would react.

Slight NSFW Ahead. Better safe than sorry.

We are going to assume all sexual activity happens a few years into the relationship and everyone is an adult at that point.

Cassandra: Excitedly opens it as soon as it's given to her by a maid.

Has the portrait of MC's posing all scandalous facing towards her and her smile drops.

She turns stone cold and calmly places the photo faced down on a table, she then tells the maid she's excused. Once she's out of the room she proceeds to melt and let out her pent up groan of frustration/flusteredness.

She lives with her dad, where tf is she supposed to put this???

Valeria: She foolishly told her mom to open the package and tell her what the letter said because her hands were dirty from baking and she was excited to see what MC had written/gave her. Her mom excitedly opened the letter and first started reading with enthusiasm; only to sound more confused as she opened the package and then just abruptly stop functioning.

When Valeria asks what wrong, her mom asked if sending risque portraits was a norm for you two and Valeria screamed out "HUH?".

Expect an awkward conversation the next time you meet Mrs. Torres.

Tomás: Opens the letter and then the package, he proceeds to have a silent conversation with God to please help him not get a instant boner in front of a total stranger. He will be placing this portrait in a large locked box; to which he will be revisiting, often.

Ludovica: Happily opens the letter and package; seriously, words cannot even begin to describe the sound that leaves her. Her face is bright red and she stutters uncontrollably when her maid asks her if she's okay.

Only she sees the portrait too and gets ushered away out of the room quickly when she stares a little too long at the image of MC.

Aurelio: Is working in his study when a servant brings the letter and package, he leans back in his chair and happily opens it. Makes an 'Ooh~' sound and waves the worker off, he pops the portrait into a frame and puts a label on it called 'Motivation'.

He then makes haste to call in some favors, MC should know better than to start anything with this man. Everything becomes an instant challenge of who can out-do who; and he's about to send you what's the equivalent of 1890's nudes.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Elio: Put's the package in the attic because it's too big to actually put in the effort of opening it; takes the letter and puts it on his desk.

Where he forgets about it until you come back and ask him if he got your letter and package. To which, this asshole remembers he never read or opened it and says "You sent me something?"

MC now gets to worry about a lost portrait of them posed all scandalously, somewhere out in the world.

Alby’s Notes (#6)

Hello everyone! I’m happy to report that I’ve survived finals week and the term! 🥳

(Though with some losses 🥲 But I won’t let that discourage me from doing my best to do better next term!)

Anyway, now that I’m free from classes for the next few weeks, I have more time for writing ATE! I’ve been working on ATE whenever I had the chance, but as you’d expect, progress was very slow due to all the projects, long quizzes, and exams I had to accomplish over the past few weeks 😅

I’m hoping that I can make up for the slow progress over the break, though I do still have to review some of my lessons from last term and practice for the auditions we’re having in January for the production in February, so I may not end up releasing the full Chapter 1 in January. If I do end up having a partial chapter release, then I think I might have to split it up into 2 or 3 parts (depending on how long the important scenes of the latter parts become) but the first part is almost ready for release. Right now without the code, Part 1 is at 4,377 words in total and 3,271 words excluding repeating paragraphs; additonally, these numbers exclude some content that I have been writing for part 1 but may not include in the January release as they are still unfinished sections.

So, yeah! I think that’s about it for this update 😊

Fantasy Guide to Building A Culture

Culture is defined by a collection of morals, ethics, traditions, customs and behaviours shared by a group of people.

Hierarchy and Social Structures

Within every culture, there is a hierarchy. Hierarchies are an important part of any culture, usually do ingrained that one within the culture wouldn't even question it. Hierarchy can be established either by age, gender or wealth and could even determine roles within their society. Sometimes hierarchy can may be oppressive and rigid whilst other times, ranks can intermingle without trouble. You should consider how these different ranks interact with one another and whether there are any special gestures or acts of deference one must pay to those higher than them. For example, the Khasi people of Meghalaya (Northern India), are strictly matriarchal. Women run the households, inheritance runs through the female line, and the men of the culture typically defer to their mothers and wives. Here are a few questions to consider:

How is a leader determined within the culture as a whole and the family unit?

Is the culture matriarchal? Patriarchal? Or does gender even matter?

How would one recognise the different ranks?

How would one act around somebody higher ranking? How would somebody he expected to act around somebody lower ranking?

Can one move socially? If not, why? If so, how?

Traditions and Customs

Traditions are a staple in any culture. These can be gestures or living life a certain way or to the way a certain person should look. Traditions are a personal detail to culture, they are what make it important. Tradition can dictate how one should keep their home, run their family, take care of their appearance, act in public and even determine relationship. Tradition can also be a double edged sword. Traditions can also be restrictive and allow a culture to push away a former member if they do not adhere to them, eg Traditional expectations of chastity led to thousands of Irish women being imprisoned at the Magdelene Laundries. Customs could be anything from how one treats another, to how they greet someone.

How important is tradition?

Values and Opinions

Values and Opinions are the bread and butter of any culture. This is the way your culture sees the world and how they approach different life hurdles. These may differ with other cultures and be considered odd to outsiders, what one culture may value another may not and what opinion another holds, one may not. There will be historical and traditional reasons to why these values and opinions are held. Cultures usually have a paragon to which they hold their members to, a list of characteristics that they expect one to if not adhere to then aspire to. The Yoruba people value honesty, hard work, courage and integrity. Here are some questions to consider?

How important are these ethics and core values? Could somebody be ostracised for not living up to them?

What are some morals that clash with other cultures?

What does your culture precieved to be right? Or wrong?

What are some opinions that are considered to be taboo in your culture? Why?

Dress Code

For many cultures, the way somebody dresses can be important. History and ethics can effect how one is meant to be dressed such as an expectation of chastity, can impose strict modesty. While other cultures, put more importance on details, the different sorts of clothes worn and when or what colour one might wear. The Palestinian people (من النهر إلى البحر ، قد يكونون أحرارا) denoted different family ties, marriage status and wealth by the embroidery and detailing on their thoub.

Are there traditional clothes for your world? Are they something somebody wears on a daily basis or just on occasion?

Are there any rules around what people can wear?

What would be considered formal dress? Casual dress?

What would happen if somebody wore the wrong clothes to an event?

Language

Language can also be ingrained as part of a Culture. It can be a specific way one speaks or a an entirely different language. For example, in the Southern States of America, one can engage in a sort of double talk, saying something that sounds sweet whilst delivering something pointed. Bless their heart. Arts, Music and Craft

Many cultures are known for different styles of dance, their artwork and crafts. Art is a great part of culture, a way for people to express themselves and their culture in art form. Dance can be an integral part of culture, such as céilí dance in Ireland or the Polka in the Czech Republic. Handicrafts could also be important in culture, such as knitting in Scottish culture and Hebron glass in Palestine. Music is also close to culture, from traditional kinds of singing such as the White Voice in Ukraine and the playing of certain instruments such as the mvet.

Food and Diet

The way a culture prepares or intakes or treats certain foods are important to a culture. In some cultures, there is a diet yo adhere to, certain foods are completely banned. With Jewish culture, pork is prohibited along with fish such as sturgeon, along with shellfish and certain fowl. Meat must also be prepared in a certain way and animal byproducts such as dairy, must never be created or even eaten around this meat. This is known as kosher. The way one consumes food is also important to culture. In some cultures, only certain people may eat together. Some cultures place important on how food is eaten. In Nigerian culture, the oldest guests are served first usually the men before the women. In Japanese culture, one must say 'itadakimasu' (I recieve) before eating. Culture may also include fasting, periods of time one doesn't intake food for a specific reason.

Is there any influence from other cuisines? If not, why not? If so, to what extent?

Are there any restrictions on who can eat what or when?

Are there any banned foods?

What stance does your world take on alcohol? Is it legal? Can anybody consume it?

Are there any dining customs? Are traditions?

Is there a difference in formal meals or casual meals? If so, what's involved?

Are there any gestures or actions unacceptable at the dinner table?

How are guests treated at meals? If they are given deference, how so?

So much detail. Can't relate. Lol.

Wait Alby Milions?! Isn't Helene 22 years old? If she started healing people at five and she healed a person every 10 minutes for ten hours at day she could have healed 373.000 people at best...even working every day since she was five, 12 hours at day she could have healed less than 500.000 peoples...or can she heal meny people at the same time?

(I swear if I get something wrong here, I'm going to take it as a sign that I should shift out of my engineering course 😭)

So, let's start with how many years Helene has been healing people. She started healing people at 8 years old, and she is currently 22 years old. So 22 - 8 is 14 years.

Now, let's say that she didn't have a lot of clients in her first year, and that she's been busy this past year leading up to the wedding, so we'll knock off 2 more years from that, making it 12 years that the Helene healing machine has been in operation.

Let's make a few assumptions, since Helene obviously can't be working 24/7 for 12 years 😅

Their calendar follows the Gregorian calendar, so a year = 365 days = 52 weeks, a week = 7 days, weekends = 2 days/week

In a year, she only works on weekdays. So that's 365 - 2(52) = 261 days of operation/year

In a day, she works from 0600H to 2100H (6:00 am - 9:00 pm) with 3 breaks in between that are 1 hour each, so that's 12 hours of operation/day

The next thing we need is Helene's rate of healing. At the bare minimum, she can heal 3 people per minute.

So, now that we have Helene's rate of healing and her time of operation, we can solve for approximately how many people Helene has healed:

So, Helene has approximately healed 6,765,120 people 😊

(What a great application of what I've learned in chemical engineering 🙂 If you just replace Helene with an evaporator [she evaporates their illnesses 🤣], this would resemble the basic problems given to us in our first year

There are a lot of scenes that I didn't include in the chapter due to time constraints. Please note that while there are 'missing scenes', all choices are complete and won't lead you to a blank page. The major scenes of Chapter Eight are currently included in the demo. Chapter Eight Word Count: approximately 139 663 words. Total Word Count: approximately 585 173 words.

Chapter Eight is the last chapter of the public demo. Future chapters, including the epilogue, will be shared only with my Patrons until the game is released. The game will be a paid game, however, a price has yet to be set and I will announce that closer to the game's completion. This game was previously only available to my Patrons but I figured that it'll be a while before I can continue working on it so for now, I'm releasing it to the public. Please note that the game is still very much in development and I'll likely post a completed version once the main game is completed. This is not a sequel to Crown of Exile but acts as a short game that takes place after the events of the main game (where the main goal of Irus reclaiming his throne succeeds).

I can't help but headcanon an MC had been all like, "Ædan, you don't have to act like the Crown Prince in front of me <3" when they were engaged, juxtaposed with a post-breakup MC confronted with a groveling Ædan asking for our forgiveness being all, "Ædan, your conduct is unbecoming of both an adult and a Crown Prince. Adults live with the repercussions of their actions, and as Crown Prince, your actions reflect on our nation. Please act in a manner befitting of your station," and then walking away. Just freezing Ædan out entirely and only interacting with him as a royal and a general. Ædan is only ever going to get to interact with MC in a professional capacity from now on. No chance of anything else and never seeing any other side to MC than a purely professional and distant one.
