In Defense Of Loki - Tumblr Posts

while this is an absolutely great take on this issue, and i completely understand you frustration with the showrunners for royally screwing up our favorite character (as we probably all do on this side of the fandom), i would like to quickly remind the class of that time tom mentioned in an interview that he only had ~5% input in the series despite being an executive producer who should've had much more power (i really wish that i was able to find the picture of it that i had found as a source but i've somehow lost it in my files).

i personally cannot find it in myself to blame him for the destruction of his character because he has shown in multiple instances how much he cares about loki and his story (see his knowledge of loki in the comics as well as his understanding of norse mythology, especially compared to the rest of the cast in the thor movies alone). all of the issues that have occurred after 2013 usually can be directly connected back to the writers fundementally misunderstanding (or just not giving a fuck about) loki, or the director changing things last minute to make him look bad - as op said above about nerfing and deleting crucial scenes for his character, even since the very first movie.

as i previously said, your feelings on the matter are completely valid, and i respect your opinion. however, based on the information that i have as a fan (because we will likely never know about all of the decisions that went into this), it is unfair to be blaming tom for decisions that were originally out of his hands, or even ones that were taken away from him.

EDIT: I FOUND THE PICTURE GUYS

While This Is An Absolutely Great Take On This Issue, And I Completely Understand You Frustration With

Any time I see someone say "Marvel knew what they were doing when they cast Tom Hiddleston" I feel a bit like...they didn't though? I think you're projecting some 4D chess grandmaster stuff onto Marvel Studios that doesn't really exist.

Tom was cast via Kenneth Branagh and yes it was PHENOMENAL casting but let's not pretend like Marvel Studios didn't spend the next near-decade and a half deleting Loki's scenes, killing him then instantly reviving him, deleting yet more of his scenes, killing him again, retconning killing him, sticking him off-screen for almost half a decade, removing yet another scene and not even compensating his fans with a DVD extra, killing him again, then suddenly remembering he's popular (again) and coming up with something to use a now-for-real-dead character as the lead but it wasn't exactly the same character (just another version of him) and now they're apparently done with him again when it's pretty obvious he'll be wheeled out of that tree at some point.

I love Loki. I love Tom's portrayal of Loki but the only people who have consistently genuinely seemed to care about the character are the fans. Because we've been given nothing but crumbs by Marvel and yet produce all this beautiful fan art, fan fic and meta. Marvel have just kinda stumbled around Loki like some perpetually confused pigeon in a hall of mirrors that keeps crashing into its own reflection shrugging "huh...what IS this? Ooh shiny!"

Knew what they were doing? More like lucked out with a very talented and charismatic actor and a dedicated fanbase that formed 2011-12 and is somehow, despite everything still here.

Loki rambling because maaaan, some antis make me confused.

Loki Rambling Because Maaaan, Some Antis Make Me Confused.

I see a lot, and I mean, A LOT of times that Loki antis complain about woobifying him, and... well, for a second let's completely ignore his backstory, let's ignore his motivations, let's completely ignore everything that makes Loki Loki.

... What is the problem?.

No, really. Even if people were "woobifying" him... What's the issue? I don't see it. It's a fictional character.

Not only that but... many of y'all don't seem to understand that many have different interpretations of the movies. Some prefer to look at every detail, analyze the psyche of characters, how other character's actions impacted others. And others feel deep emotional connections to the characters because they relate (Hi! I'm an example!).

I don't have the energy to fully defend Loki like some cool people I follow do, but goddamn just let Loki fans enjoy their silly god.

Like... look, at the end of the day... you're getting mad because someone likes a character and has reasons to defend it or empathize with it. That's both funny and confusing.

Alright, But The Casual MCU Fans Are Not The Ones Being Insulted Here. The Whole Original Point Was Completely

Alright, but the casual MCU fans are not the ones being insulted here. The whole original point was completely missed. It was all a response to this

Alright, But The Casual MCU Fans Are Not The Ones Being Insulted Here. The Whole Original Point Was Completely

A complete attack to his fans, fans who resonated with him for the way he was othered in his story. So the discussion of him being blue was because story wise, the thing people resonate with and empathize/sympathize over is because in his story he ISN'T white. It isn't about the actor, it's about the character.

The original confessor missed the point, and the point keeps being missed the more we nitpick the choise of words Loki fans use. The whole point is one shouldn't reduce his fans to "fans just like hot guy".

dear, I mean this in the most respectful way, but you missed the point of youlackconviction and every other fan.

Dear, I Mean This In The Most Respectful Way, But You Missed The Point Of Youlackconviction And Every

The original confesser started with an attack to Loki fans, not casual fans, the Loki fans, the ones invested enough to write thousands of meta of said character.

So of course conviction brought up the fact Loki was blue, because every Fan would know that and it'd be an aspect of why they like the character that much.

(also there's plenty of attractive white villains and characters that people don't get as attached.)

Believe it or not, accusing Loki fans of this is something I've encountered since 2011 (I was 9), and if you're afab is much worse. The confesser didn't care enough to look at the lore? that's fine, but they don't get to declare why Loki fans like him.

Because I Spent Last Night Reading Marvel Quotes, I Came Across This Gem And Spent The Whole Night Analysing

Because I spent last night reading Marvel quotes, I came across this gem and spent the whole night analysing it instead of sleeping (oops). Honestly, I might be reading too much into it, but it has very deep connotations when you think about it at 11pm. Anyways, the ants are humans. Loki is the boot. That's fairly obvious. But what stood out to my tired brain is the fact that, on its own, a boot is an inanimate object, with no mind, will or true desire to squish the human race. There has to be someone's foot in the boot, making it move. Which could be a very subtle nod to the mind control CONFIRMED FACT theory. Honestly, the only reason I'm posting this is because my brain is too hopped up on caffeine to be embarrassed, feel free to ignore me.

what a lovely day to remember that Loki is canonically a Very Good Boy who made terrible errors in judgment not out of spitefulness but out of genuine love for and loyalty to his family and his people, despite their total and shameless unworthiness, and an understandable fear that his life was literally at stake.

I don't think I'll ever get over TR's hypocrisy.

So, the movie is about how colonialism is bad, but Loki taking Asgard's claws out of most of the other worlds makes him a "terrible" king?

So, Loki planning to overthrow Grandmaster, literal slave owner, one of the biggest jerks in the universe, is "bad", but when Thor leaves Sakaar, that's exactly what he does, and it's framed as him being heroic.

I can say SO MUCH MORE about TR's bulls%it, really.
