How to Register as a VOCALOID User on the Internet Co, Ltd. Website
Alongside GUMI's new VOCALOID6 voicebank, AI Megpoid, Internet Co. released a plugin to replicate VOCALOID4's XSY feature. This plugin is called XSyn and essentially behaves the same way as XSY. However, to download XSyn, you need to register yourself as a user on Internet Co.'s website. I was super excited about XSyn, but I had no idea how to register...until yesterday. I cracked the code yesterday, and I want to spread the word about how I did it.
Here are the steps I took:
Make sure you're on the Japanese Internet Co. website. They have a global website, but you can only access features like XSyn on the Japanese website.
Go to the "Inquiries about user registration" tab under "Inquiries". Within the page, click on the link "How to Register as a User of VOCALOID products." This will prompt you to select either VOCALOID3 or VOCALOID4. If you want to register a VOCALOID3 or VOCALOID4 product, click on the appropriate one. If you're going to register a VOCALOID6 product instead, it doesn't really matter which one you pick, so just choose one.
Once you're at the product registration page, if you want to register a VOCALOID6 product, you're going to alter the link. There will be either a 3 or a 4 in the URL depending on which prompt you followed. Change that number to a 6, then hit enter. This will take you to an unlisted VOCALOID6 registration page.
Make sure you were given an Internet Product Number when you purchased the product you intend to register. The serial code you used to activate it won't work. You need the product number unique to Internet Co., Ltd. If you don't have an Internet Product Number, you aren't getting any further than this.
Once you enter your product number, you'll be taken to a user registration page. Here, you can create an account on the Japanese Internet Co, Ltd. website. (Make sure you select "living abroad" if you don't live in Japan. This will change the information entry portion so you don't have to list a zip code, prefecture, etc.) Once you fill out all the required information, congratulations. You have an account. You can now log in at any time, and on your user page, you can access whatever plugins and other unique features are exclusive to registered users.
It doesn't look like the results are going to change much in the next half-hour, so thanks for your input!
As a bonus, since I'm registered as a user on Internet Co.'s website, I can get her for almost 50% off. The power of brand loyalty, I guess.
So...
AI Otomachi Una is a thing.
I'm debating over whether or not to get her.
Pros:
She's cute. She sparks joy.
Her updated Sugar voicebank honestly sounds really good.
Since she has two cross-lingual voicebanks, I might be more motivated to practice using XSyn. I love GUMI V4, but copy/pasting Japanese syllables from Wikipedia to make song lyrics is painful. (Is there any way to make this process quicker?)
GUMI will have a friend that isn't one of the standard Yamaha voices.
She'd be the first non-adult voice in my (admittedly very small) arsenal, adding a bit of variety to the lineup.
This will show Internet Co. that their products are wanted. With enough interest in/purchases of their V6 voicebanks, maybe more of their characters will get updates. That's a big maybe, but never say never.
Cons:
She's freaking expensive ($138 US before tax).
Her updated Spicy voicebank is kind of underwhelming.
I love playing around with tuning/making covers privately, but I haven't had the courage to actually upload anything to the internet; in this sense, it might just seem like an expensive waste of time.
The whole "interest in Internet Co.'s stuff" thing outlined above isn't guaranteed to work.
So with all that said, I'm tossing this decision to a third party since I'm super indecisive.
I'm scrolling through Gackpo's official Twitter right now, and oh my gosh, the social media team behind this whole thing is made of geniuses. It's only GUMI, Gackpo, and Una for now, but it's still great. They all have their own little character quirks, and it's so cute!!
Una uses a lot of cutesy emoticons in addition to emojis, whereas the other two gravitate more toward emojis.
Gackpo calls Una "U-chan" and doesn't use any honorifics for GUMI. He's also a little goofy and refers to himself in the third person sometimes.
GUMI calls Gackpo "Gakunii-chan" and Una (or her hat? Google Translate can only do so much) "Otomachan." She also tweets in English the most frequently of the three.
Oh, and we're getting GUMI and Gackpo bath salts I guess???
Okay, I figured it out! Otoma-chan is the hat. GUMI uses U-chan for Una, just like Gackpo.

Still waiting for my download. In the meantime, I learned that GUMI was added to SynthV last month.
On one hand, cool. More GUMI is always awesome. Internet Co. isn't abandoning Vocaloid GUMI, either, so it will be interesting to see how each one will evolve over time.
On the other, I listened to the VOCALOID6 and SynthV demo songs side by side, and I still think Vocaloid GUMI sounds better than SynthV GUMI. Maybe it was just the tuning in the SynthV demo, though; there was SO MUCH vibrato.
I dunno. What do you guys think?
Within the first 6 months of release, AI Megpoid's sales outsold of all of GUMI's other voicebanks, including Megpoid V4 Complete, with more purchases via music stores than ever before.

I love her! She has that same low, powerful kind of voice as Iroha, and since there aren't many female Vocaloids in this category, it makes her stand out. Her color scheme is also gorgeous in my opinion. :)
I can't wait to see what producers do with her once she officially releases!

She didn't sound too different from standard GUMI V6/SV, but now I'm contractually obligated to get her as a 🇺🇲🇺🇸Murican🇺🇲🇺🇸
But in all seriousness, I like her. She doesn't read as a "Power" voicebank, but she has firmer consonants and a slightly deeper, more mature tone to her voice. Makes sense for a "Solid" voicebank. Could she be improved? Probably. But she's GUMI, so I'll love her even with her imperfections.

Waiting for Internet Co. to email me after struggling way too hard to register AI Megpoid Solid. I had to act like I forgot my User ID since certain information on my account was un-editable and incompatible with the registration form.
Even though I didn't have any issues with registering both of Una's voicebanks last year.
Yay.
Let's hope they don't perma-ban me for "attempting to make multiple accounts" or something. I'm just a Japanese-illiterate idiot trying to have fun with the silly singing robots and ensure backup download links for emergencies. You know, like when I fried my laptop this spring and didn't have time to deactivate all my Vocaloid stuff since that's generally not the first thing that comes to mind in this situation.
Update: Registering GUMI V6 SOLID worked!!!
