How to Register as a VOCALOID User on the Internet Co, Ltd. Website

Alongside GUMI's new VOCALOID6 voicebank, AI Megpoid, Internet Co. released a plugin to replicate VOCALOID4's XSY feature. This plugin is called XSyn and essentially behaves the same way as XSY. However, to download XSyn, you need to register yourself as a user on Internet Co.'s website. I was super excited about XSyn, but I had no idea how to register...until yesterday. I cracked the code yesterday, and I want to spread the word about how I did it.

Here are the steps I took:

Make sure you're on the Japanese Internet Co. website. They have a global website, but you can only access features like XSyn on the Japanese website.

Go to the "Inquiries about user registration" tab under "Inquiries". Within the page, click on the link "How to Register as a User of VOCALOID products." This will prompt you to select either VOCALOID3 or VOCALOID4. If you want to register a VOCALOID3 or VOCALOID4 product, click on the appropriate one. If you're going to register a VOCALOID6 product instead, it doesn't really matter which one you pick, so just choose one.

Once you're at the product registration page, if you want to register a VOCALOID6 product, you're going to alter the link. There will be either a 3 or a 4 in the URL depending on which prompt you followed. Change that number to a 6, then hit enter. This will take you to an unlisted VOCALOID6 registration page.

Make sure you were given an Internet Product Number when you purchased the product you intend to register. The serial code you used to activate it won't work. You need the product number unique to Internet Co., Ltd. If you don't have an Internet Product Number, you aren't getting any further than this.

Once you enter your product number, you'll be taken to a user registration page. Here, you can create an account on the Japanese Internet Co, Ltd. website. (Make sure you select "living abroad" if you don't live in Japan. This will change the information entry portion so you don't have to list a zip code, prefecture, etc.) Once you fill out all the required information, congratulations. You have an account. You can now log in at any time, and on your user page, you can access whatever plugins and other unique features are exclusive to registered users.

While I'm still hyperfixating on Vocaloid and other vocal synths, I just want to rant about something.

See this YouTube thumbnail?

An image of Tsurumaki Maki standing next to Hatsune Miku, the latter of whom is in a trash can. The image is captioned, "Goodbye Miku!"

This thumbnail exemplifies a trend in the vocal synth community that really bothers me.

I get that SynthV has some amazing, realistic outputs. I understand that VOCALOID6 was disappointing to some people, especially those who like hyper-realistic vocal synths. However, I think this approach to criticizing VOCALOID (and other software by extension) comes off as unnecessarily combative.

There is certainly fair criticism of VOCALOID6 that should be discussed (looking at you, Vocalo-Changer), but it veers into more personal territory when you start pitting the mascots against each other. I get that this is often done as a joke, and it can be funny when executed well. It's just that some people also use this as a semi-serious way to promote their software of choice/disparage others. It's not the be-all end-all of annoying fandom behavior, but it gets under my skin nonetheless.

There's also a very small but very loud minority who will straight-up call you stupid if you like anything other than their preferred software. No one likes those people. The person who made this thumbnail is not part of that group, and I don't think they intend to start any serious drama. They're just trying to get views for their video. Please don't attack them.

I guess my larger point is, no one should feel like they're being mocked for their preferred vocal synth software. Each one has its unique strengths and weaknesses. It's okay to have your preferences, and it's okay (heck, more than okay) to criticize/want better of corporations and their products. It's just not fun when this criticism turns inflammatory toward fans of these products, who are not the original targets.

That's all.

Awwww yeeeeaaaaaah.

Murica GUMI, coming out on 🎆Freedom Day🎆

She didn't sound too different from standard GUMI V6/SV, but now I'm contractually obligated to get her as a 🇺🇲🇺🇸Murican🇺🇲🇺🇸

But in all seriousness, I like her. She doesn't read as a "Power" voicebank, but she has firmer consonants and a slightly deeper, more mature tone to her voice. Makes sense for a "Solid" voicebank. Could she be improved? Probably. But she's GUMI, so I'll love her even with her imperfections.

I just finished putting down the syllables for my first "serious" Vocaloid cover!! I still need to do the tuning and mixing, but I think I'm allowed to be proud of myself for getting this far. It's almost 5 minutes long and has 4 vocal parts. I can save the beginning stages of tuning for tomorrow.

If you want to know what song I'm covering, here's a hint. :)

I Just Finished Putting Down The Syllables For My First "serious" Vocaloid Cover!! I Still Need To Do

I don't know if I'll actually upload it anywhere when it's done, but we'll see.

Song cover update: I just got done tuning the first verse for each part. It's time-consuming, but it's also fun to really learn the ins and outs of the VOCALOID6 software.

Each character/vocal is giving me unique challenges, too.

GUMI is pretty soft no matter how much I increase her DYN or Expression (AI) values, so her volume slider in the mixer is permanently set to 3.0. Her longer notes can also be a bit raspy/funky, and figuring out how to soften them isn't always straightforward. Mixing her SOLID voicebank with her original V6's "Megpoid Default" Style filter actually produces some nice, well-rounded results, so that's neat.

Una has been the most difficult for me to work with so far. I'm using her Spicy voicebank since Sweet is a bit too soft for this song's energy, but she still isn't that clear or powerful on her own. The "Una_Spicy_Bright" Style filter adds a bit of noise, but it also really helps her bring out her consonants and sound a bit more "punchy."

HARUKA really doesn't like vibrato. She also overpowers the others A LOT by default, so I nerfed her Expression (AI).

SARAH sounds the most bored of the four without tuning, but she's been pretty easy to work with otherwise. She responds well to parameter adjustments.

Ayo? Another new V6?

Ayo? Another New V6?

I think this is a V6 version of the SynthV character Tsuina-chan. Not entirely sure, but the designs look similar enough.
