Okay this is going to be hard to formulate for me but like,,, Saïx/Isa never had an highschool education, never got to go to KH equivalent to college. He never got to sit in classes, write essays, :/ he never got to grow up and be an adult and have adult issues. Instead he got stabbed in the back multiple times.
So that promise he made to subject X, it's the only thing going for him. He really only has his word to keep him going and nothing more.

Idk if I'm making sense but fuck. He's nearly 30 years old still thinking about something from over a decade ago.
A child's promise really goes a long way, especially since he never stopped being a kid.
It makes me think about what kind of things I'd hold onto if I never got to emotionally grow out of my trauma. Isa literally had to stay with his tormentors for most of his adult life, brainwashed and confused, filled with "faux" anger. So all he had was his childish hopes.
And to add more commentary, the way Lea in KH3 had that conversation with Saïx, telling him that they pretty much failed in saving the girl; now looking back it seemed like adult maturity in Lea.
I know as fans we like to see Lea as fun loving kid in an adult's body, but tbh I feel like what kept Isa/Saïx going a these years was childlike determination and stubbornness.
Lea's the adult, Isa's the kid.
He doesn't want to give up, and although Lea said he didn't give up on looking for the girl, I feel like in his adult mind, searching for her was futile since she was up and gone. He didn't want to give up, he just had to.
More important things took place like in a real adult life. He had work, and missions and other stuff while Saïx was stuck in the same place, in the same problem; where other adults would've moved on from the child's promise.
I really do love Saïx/Isa, and these late night thoughts have really fucked me up.
