So would I.

We’ve had no time to be married. And I would like that time very much.

This is lovely, and very well written! It comes close to the novel's own style of writing!
The Death of Prescriptions

I rejigged the Jonathan x Arabella drabble I wrote the other day and put it up on AO3 if anyone is interested :)
Hooooomygod

Awwwww, crud, I told myself I wasn’t going to do fan art for this show, and yet here we are. >_>; Here is a (probably overly melodramatic) portrait of Childermass from the BBC production of “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.” Go watch it. It’s an excellent adaptation of one of my favorite books. <3

Welcome to Lost Hope
Why, Mr. Strange! You look dashing tonight!

You two!

Thanks to marinated-fish who provided me with today’s distraction :) The drabble requested was a piece about Lady Pole and Arabella at Lost Hope, talking about their husbands.
Holy crap. I can only apologise for the sadness and angst in this. But… well.. what do you expect? ;)
Enjoy! Or… try to anyway…. (sorry)

JS&mN character theme songs
So this afternoon I took all of the major characters in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and matched each of them up with two pieces of classical music that I thought best suits them.
Here I use the word “classical” in the general sense, since the works below encompass the Baroque-Romantic period. This took a bit of time (because I couldn’t choose), but it was a lot of fun. If you want to ask me about any of my choices, I would love to discuss! I am a professional classical musician and have performed roughly half of the works below, so can say my judgement on this one is pretty good ^__^
Jonathan Strange: Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream Op.21, and Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony, mvts I and II (x) (x)
Gilbert Norrell: Purcell’s O Solitude and Ravel’s piano trio in A minor, mvt III Passacaille. (x) (x)
John Childermass: Jacquet de la Guerre’s Harpsichord suite no.5, and the Prelude to Bach’s cello suite no. 2 (x) (x)
John Segundus: Tchaikovsky’s string quartet in D, mvt II, and Boccherini’s string quintet Op. 25 no. 6 (x) (x)
Vinculus: Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, and Brahm’s string quartet no.3 Op. 67, mvt I (x) (x)
Stephen Black: Telemann’s sonata in D for cello and continuo, and Saint-Saëns’s Danse Macabre (x) (x)
Arabella Strange: Debussy’s Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, and Elgar’s The Snow (x) (x)
Lady Pole: Ravel’s La Valse, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo; Tu Sei Morta (x) (x)
Christopher Drawlight: Strauss’s Salomé’s Dance, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni; Mille e tre (x) (x)
Henry Lascelles: Locatelli’s concerto grosso Op. 1 in c minor, and Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain (x) (x)
The Gentleman: Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919), and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; Papagena Papageno duet (x) (x)
The Raven King: Mozart’s Requiem, and Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo; Possente Spirito (x) (x or x)

I didn’t know what to do with all this love I have for Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. So I turned it into a drawing.

“Our meaning is written on our skin, nameless slave.”
“Indeed. My skin means that any man may strike me in a public place and never fear the consequence. It means no matter how many books I read, how many languages I master, no matter how diligently I work, I’ll never be anything but a curiosity. It means that I am nothing. Nothing.”
“My skin means the opposite of yours. My skin means that you shall be raised up on high, nameless slave. It means that your kingdom is waiting for you. That your enemies shall be destroyed.“

It is way past 3 AM again, so - be gentle and let me tell you a story.
I have some sort of an art kink for the Tarot cards. I even used to read them for my friends - but at some point I just got scared of either programming myself, or just definitely knowing the future (eh, who knows for sure?..), and threw the deck away (it wasn’t hand-painted or anything, anyway). And - yes, right now I’ve already got AT LEAST two separate sketching processes for two different sets, but that is going to take a lot of time because I’m planning to do all the 78 of each.
I needn’t remind you why all this is happening; I just got enchanted by the way the people involved in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell do their art [see the screenshot with the Tower above]. And - yes, it is the true art of acting, directing, setting the scenes, etc. that makes the whole project THAT fascinating for me. The final episode airs on Sunday, and I fear after that finale my life will feel just as empty as when I had finished the book ten years ago.
And, while I was away for my cabin-in-the-woods vacation, it suddenly struck me: I could make a set based on the show. Every character and every scene there has a story worth telling, and depending on that I could design something different from the canonical, proper Marseilles deck, but still functional. Since I’m in no way a superhero, I decided to stick to the Major Arcana, because 22 is obviously easier done than 78, and started working the minute I got back at my PC…
To be frank, I’m not even sure I can do all 22 of them [though I have ideas for 12 already]. But I try to make every single one of them some sort of a symbolic art piece in the best way I’m capable of. I try to make them look linked, and different, and at the very least making sense with all that using black&white graphics only. Also, that keeps my depression at bay, so… it’s all for a good cause, right?)))
The image with the deck of cards is just an attempt to picture the way the whole deck might look like; I haven’t actually printed any of them yet. But if that happens, I’m going to let you know. And, since there are people who’ve been asking: no, I’m not selling these. Not as a deck. Not as separate prints. They are just not for sale, because it feels wrong to gain money via this particular deck. If there ever comes a moment one of you wants to get any of these images in its actual size, you go and donate to charity, and then let me know [here, or - same ol’ @erebusodora on twitter], and I’m gonna email the file to you, deal? I don’t need payment for art, just make somebody feel better.
Oh, and the last thing I wanted to say… If any of you has the chance to go and hug all the people who inspired this, go and hug them for me. Just because they deserve it.
Oh god, and that screenshot.
The Other Side of the Rain

OK. So I tried to write an HEA for Jonathan and Arabella. I failed. Apparently I enjoy my heart shattering into tiny pieces too much.
So I wrote this instead - up on ffnet and AO3

“do you honestly believe i would allow you to destroy Norrell? which is to say, destroy me?”
