I constantly have it in my mind that Gillion is three years older than Chip. Gillion, yes, Gillion mother fucking Tidestrider, is the oldest of the albatrio.

It's funny on a base level, Gillion is oldest yet the others need to babysit him. Gillion is the oldest but he knows the least. Haha.

It's less funny if you think about Chip being 8 years old, happy with the black rose pirates and then Gillion. Gillion who is eleven and training to be a weapon for others.

It's less funny if you think about Jay, 12 and spending time with her mom and sister. Gillion, 13, who can't remember his mom and almost expects his sister's hugs to hurt because the only contact he gets is hit over the head for failing again.

Chip, 14, Jay, 16, able to act out and cause trouble, because they're teenagers, why not goof around? And then Gillion, who's 17 and told to be an adult and act like it. But he can't change how he acts, because being mature has always been the standard expectation, he doesn't know how to be an adult when that's already what he's been his whole life.

Chip, 18 and he is scared to kill someone because killing is bad. Jay, 20 and her sister is dead and she is heartbroken. Gill, 21 and he is already used to killing, and he never sees his sister anyways, and he ruins his life. He ruins his life doing wha he thought was right, doing what they taught him to do.

Gillion is three years older than Chip, a year older than Jay. And it seems insignificant until you think about those years being stolen from him. It took Gillion 22 years to be free. Chip was free off and on, he had a childhood, Jay was never held back, she had a childhood.

Gillion didn't.

Hear me out, Chip throughout the series is starved of positive parental affirmation and who could give him that? The big blue boy scout himself. As I'm typing this I've realized how much Mommy/Daddy issues all three of the Riptide pirates have, so here are some inspirational Superman quotes

the riptide pirates honestly need therapy. superman is HIGHLY SPECIFIC and i definitely am not familiar enought w the man to see him as a father figure but he definitely could give them enough inspirational quotes to heal a little bit of that trauma i'd say

riptide brain rot because i feel bad about all the dumping i do for my friends

- most of albatrio’s scars never heal/fade fully, they’re in the sun 24/7 so they aren’t going anywhere

- gillion has massive networks of white scarring from all the times he has been struck by lightning

- chip’s knuckles and hands have little nicks from his years of street fighting and playing around with knives

- jay originally burnt like a bitch in the sun but now she is just covered in freckles (lizzy likes to call them constellations)

- gil has permanent callousness from where he’s held his shield the skin healing over and over where he’s used it to protect himself against massive blows

probs will ramble more but yeah i’m so normal about these guys….

what are the riptide pirates but love persevering

every single one of them has committed some form of “unforgivable” sin.

chip is a killer, jay lied to her first true friends faces for months and gillion well he abandoned his most important post out of “selfishness”.

they have hurt each other and lied but at the end of every day they have each others shoulders to cry on.

when chip was dying in front of their eyes, nightmares waking them every night, they held his hands and loved him across the seas to get him the help he needed. his lying and broken promises don’t matter, their love is louder.

when jay reveals that she stepped on the ship with hate in her heart it would have been easy to step away but instead they stood by her side. love loud enough to face her father and spill their own blood because she is family.

when gillion chose that card from the deck they wanted to hate him, to leave him for the harm he had caused but love spoke louder. chip forgave every wound or tear to stand against a storm to bring him home
