Kira Task Force - Tumblr Posts

So after watching the Death Note anime more times than is probably healthy, I got my hands on the manga and I love it, but there is one thing I noticed that scares me a little.

Does every single person on this damn task force WANT to die!? They are all either way too calm or then there’s Soichiro and Matsuda openly talking about planning to die. It’s more touched upon in the manga, but Matsuda was literally grinning while trying to insist that he should take the eyes and die after using the notebook. 

There aren’t as many instances with Ide, Aizawa, and Mogi, but enough that makes me wonder if they’re here for justice or just seeking death.

Okay, this has been bothering me for a while, so I have to ask about it.

How the fuck did the task force survive the explosion at Mello's base? I've read that scene in the manga a few times, and it keeps getting worse.

First off, for some reason, they decided not to call an ambulance. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but given the extent of everyone's injuries, that sounds like a death sentence for at least Soichiro and Aizawa. They did explain why they didn’t use an ambulance, since rescue personnel was in chaos due to Kira killing the whole mafia, but seriously? And once they did get to the hospital, what did Mogi say to explain to the hospital staff what was going on?

Speaking of those injuries, it's worse than what we saw in the anime, and maybe my real gripe is how the hell did they heal so fast.

Matsuda had an injury in his neck that could have been anything from whiplash to a full-on cervical spine injury. He was wearing a neck brace for a while, but he healed the fastest of everyone, so I lean towards the fact that he probably had whiplash.

Ide we see was conscious, but he needed a crutch for a while and had bandages on his arms and legs. Mogi was somehow fine.

Soichiro and Aizawa, however, had been knocked out. While Aizawa was in the scene of Soichiro's death in the anime, he wasn't in the manga. The next time we see Aizawa, he is covered in bandages, namely around his head, heavily bandaged arms, and he had a sling. A sling is typically used for a broken shoulder, or sometimes even a stroke. So the existence of this sling makes it pretty clear that he was badly injured.

And yet, for some reason, they were all completely fine within three weeks. No bandages, no impairments, and Aizawa WAS DRIVING. HOW? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? While some concussions can heal for the most part within two weeks, the fact that Aizawa was unconscious for seemingly hours makes it pretty clear he should be leaning towards a concussion taking months to heal. Why was he driving? Scratch that. How was he even able to drive? He still had his arm in a sling for a while.

I know he was being beaten by his wife, that much was made pretty clear in arc 1, but I don't think that would make him a superhuman who can function despite injuries that should not allow him to drive.

Which also begs the question of why didn't Light kill him? Two months later, Light was okay with killing all of them, but when he had the prime opportunity to pick off one or two of them, he didn't? And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm just saying this task force got LUCKY.

I got my sister into Death Note, and one of the first things she asked me was what would happen if literally anyone else became Kira instead of Light. Like what if someone on the task force became Kira instead?

All factors aside, like intelligence or method of doing things or even the likelihood of it happening in the first place, by far the most entertaining realization is that if anyone besides Light ended up being Kira, that would mean the new Kira would have to deal with the combined powers of L and Light Yagami.

And I'm sorry, but if it were me, that would be enough to make me turn right around and decide I don't hate myself enough for that...

Which means I absolutely have to write this.

I will die on the hill Soichiro was a father figure to the entire task force. Bonus points if he just kept bringing these sad young detectives in like stray cats and asking Sachiko “can we keep him?”

This also explains why the task force didn’t suspect Light despite everything. They’re not stupid, they’re just very used to his good-hearted but insane father. They just figured the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

It does say something that Aizawa’s warning bells started seriously going off around the time Light pulled the two-timing Misa and Kiyomi thing, something Soichiro would never do. 

Something I find extremely amusing that isn’t talked about is how much Light makes sense as a person once you get to know his father better. I’m not talking about the “he’s a cop” thing. That discussion’s been done to death.

I’m talking about how this man had a heart attack but managed to sneak out of the hospital, steal a police van, crash it into a building, hold a man at gunpoint, ruin the Second Kira’s plans, all of this in the span of like an hour… and besides being tired mostly just walked that shit off. Reminder this man was like 48 at this point.

Now I wonder what is going on with Light’s mother that she fell in love with this disaster of a man, even if he is a genuinely good person. Was she just as insane as him but mellowed out when they spawned a creature together? Is she where Light learned the belief that building a bomb in your desk to hide a diary is totally normal teenage behavior?

I’m just saying a lot of Light’s weirder traits make sense when you learn how insane his father is. How much more of it could be explained by his parents?

Sometimes I think about that one panel in arc 2 when Light described murdering the task force as "I'll put you all out of your misery."

What happened in the five years they spent together for him to phrase it like that? Were they displaying Uramichi Oniisan energy 24/7? Was he the only one willing to acknowledge the elephant in the room that nobody on that task force has a self-preservation instinct? Did he just decide to spice up his phrasing that day? I need answers!

Branching out in the anime I watch and it's really sinking in that in any other show, the Kira task force would have been some sort of magical girl team or something and not a team of normal if not suicidal grown ass adults.

Which now has me thinking about what the series would look like if they were like previously retired magical girls or whatever the term is for guys. What would that even look like besides chaos? Because the task force ages barring Soichiro are all about 5 years apart (Aizawa and Ide at 35, Mogi at 30, Matsuda and Ukita at 25) which would probably mean they would have all been in different generations and thus have not worked with each other before and also means Matsuda is probably the only one who would have the original outfit and not some adult variant of it.

So how would that play out? Would they be trying to keep it a secret from one another except maybe the person they share an age with? Would they all just walk in for this case and be shocked to find the others with the same powers? Would L know about this going in and choose them or would that be a fun surprise? Would Light know in the event his father is also in on this and try to steal the magical girl or whatever thing for himself?

The only thing for certain is that Misa's debut would be very different and a lot more chaotic for everyone involved.

Soichiro: what?

L: what? he's been sending me letters I like him.

Soichiro: L you cant use the japanese police like a dating app!

AU where instead of Misa being the model they used to get into yotsuba the task force went “but lights prettier” and shove him into a playboy bunny suit or smthn and he's just screeching like a feral cat the whole time.

I want nothing more than the taskforce to be in a situation where Light doesn't have to act like this nice kid. I want him to bitch and moan, insult everyone, just be a dick in general

His and L's arguments go to a whole other level because Light stopped pulling his punches, so L did too

He makes Matsuda cry twice a day (L was using every ounce of his will power to stifle his laughter), Soichiro ends up grounding him to hell and back but besides some choice words and a "get fucked" nothing comes out of it, and omfg Aizawa was THIS close to losing his shit

L loves Light even more afterwards because holy shit what an unpleasant little jackass, he must be L's
