crying screaming throwing up as I imagine what a modern twdg au would be 😭😭 I like to think Clems class took a field trip to UGA and she bombarded professor Everett with random questions and facts about history :)
and then a small doodle of the bitter reality we got :(
There seems to be two main reasons why people believe that Lilly had a thing for Lee and I'd like to disect them for the sake of character analysis.
1. Voice Acting
Nikki Rapp brings so much to the character of Lilly. One might think that staying neutral and siding with Lilly leads to the same outcome, but this isn't entirely true. If you listen closely their are the same pieces of dialoge, but different takes.
When Lee actively sides with Lilly, her voice has a certain warmth in it. Some people interpret that as romantic, however it's the same warmth that she shows to her father, Larry and baby Clementine. So it definitely can be still read as completely platonic.
2. Kenny's Remarks In Episode 3
When Lee tries to save Larry in Starved For Help (or simply does nothing), Kenny will start saying some weird passive aggressive shit.
To keep this short we're only going to look at the most obvious ones: "That fucking figures. It's only a matter of time until you and Lilly build a white-picket fence around that shithole!"
And a "white-picket fence" refers to a marital home. Implying that Lilly and Lee are going to hook up and form a nuclear family with Clem as their adopted daughter.
He also mockingly refers to Lee as Lilly's pal "But your pal here shot her!" Again the implication here is "If that's waht he really is to you".
Kenny does in-fact believe that there is something romantic going on between Lee and Lilly. The issue here however lies with the fact that Kenny isn’t observing the objective truth. All this is cope.
Notice how Kenny only starts saying this shit after Lee refuses to kill Larry with him? In this gameplay-route Lee has chosen Lilly over him and Kenny doesn't know how to deal with that.
So far Kenny "I could give two shits what Lilly wants" Fischer has done little to try and empathise with the lady that is competing with him over leadership. The fact that she does most of the orgenazing (rationing food, forming a schedule for the group, deviding labour) slides off his brain. So he comes to the conclusion that the only reason Lee could possibly back up Lilly as a leader is because he wants something from her.
3. The Lesbification of Lilly Caul
This is where I'm going off the rails.
In S1 Lilly spends alot of time trying and failing to cater to the outdated ideals of her father: "Yeah, he's bitter and hateful but he's only trying to protect [...] me." Constantly playing devils advocate for the most unpleasent guy left on earth leaves her in bad graces with the rest of the group (who she could be in community with otherwise) and by the time he dies, she has no one left to turn to.
Intresting to note here is that Larry is canonically an abusive father and also homophobic. See "You and what Homo-parade?!"
In S4 we see Lilly refusing to move on from the hateful ideals of her father. Which is shown in the fact that Lilly spends alot of time playing Mary Brown to Minerva's Megan Bloomfield. This might be a reach but the raiders are a group of oppresive adults looking to mold teenagers into perfect soldiers, a process Lilly herself went through in her youth. They're all about overriding their autonomy, change them and fix what they see as flaws in them.
I'm not saying that Lilly's story is a metaphor for someone dealing with intense self-hatred and internalized homophobia — but I'll dare to say it's applicable.

Clementine's last name is Culver.
Post S4 she sometimes gets depressed over the prospect that everyone at Ericson might die of natrual causes. In a world like theirs that might seem like an honour, but it also means that AJ and Tenn will be left alone to fend for themselves after the "adults" in their lives pass away. So unless they start inviting new people in, they might run into some problems in the future.
Lilly's mom met Larry while working as a nurse at some military base they both were stationed in. They had a meet-cute while she was dressing his wounds. Following that, there was as time where they did truely love eachother. It's hard to pin-point when exactly they became that miserable family sitting in the dark.
Shel is a not-so distant cousin of this trainwreck of a family. Her and Lilly used to constantly be told that they look like sisters. (Which is funny since Shel is korean and Lilly is the whitest person to ever exist).
Lee spend his teen years commuting between the college he was visiting in Atlana and his family home in Macon. He did that so much that he would sometimes wake up in the dark, laying on a couch, unsure if he was in his dorm room or at his parents.
Post the Motor Inn era, he got a similar feeling after a good nights sleep. Once or twice Lee would, for just a second, believe that he was back in Macon.

Why our lil bros from tiktok are seriously extolling Lee's strength to unimaginable proportions, as if he's some good Homelander from twdg universe who solos all the bad guys, turns cars upside down and knocks walkers' heads off with his foot?
He's just a regular guy (who also falls down in every episode) and his main strength is only in his plot armor, cause if this game was realistic, he definitely wouldn't have survived some events, like when his arm was chopped off.
I'm not saying he's not strong, I'm saying he's not all-powerful.
the thing that makes lee and clem such a sad story is that lee wanted clem. every other person clem meets and interacts with take care of out of a moral compass. they treat her like any other survivor. but lee found her, stayed with her, and had future plans that included her.
one of his few ideas we see is him thinking about setting up a small classroom just for clem.
everyone else considers clem an adult but to lee it didn't matter if clem couldn't pull her own weight. you can bring clem along in almost everything. they we're a team. and i'd go far to say that clem barely has another team mate ever again that's looking out only for her. Luke was worried about his own family, Jane was occupied with clem turning out like her dead sister, and kenny has self interest in keeping clem safe since they new each other from the beginning. And christa wanted to keep clem safe because she was just a kid but she also had omid.
you could argue that lee was also just taking care of clem bc she was a kid but you can't deny he got super attached her.
2024 is the year for finishing all our wips
My TWDG S1 TV Show character status chart!
Notes:
1 - Glenn wont be in this series and will be replace by Mark because this Show is set in the TV universe and Glenn is with Ricks group in the Shows timeline.
2 - Lee still has his arm chopped off in the TV show version, But is saved by the commonwealth group before he dies and stuff like that.
3 - Kenny will appear in S2 like in the game.
4 - Katjaa will be bitten instead of Duck
5 - Chuck/Charles will be killed by the stranger while Chuck/Charles is protecting Lee and Clementine from him. (Chuck/Charles is the old guy in episode 3 on the Train.)
6 - Carly and Doug both survive the Drug store and Doug is shot by Lily and Carly is depressed.
7 - Ben goes though a character Arc so he isn't completely useless in this Rewrite TV concept.
(I might make a remake with a different Tier list.)
