Park Chanyeol 박찬열 🐺 Overview

Park Chanyeol, better known mononymously as Chanyeol, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, actor and model. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO, and sub-unit EXO-SC. Apart from his group’s activities, Chanyeol has also starred in various television dramas and movies such as Missing 9, Memories of Alhambra, and The Box.

This post is part of an effort to celebrate the accomplishments of EXO over the past 10 years and to provide tangible avenues for supporting these artists in 2022 (when they will likely be leaving SM Ent.) and beyond 🖤

After watching School of Rock in elementary school, Chanyeol became interested in music and soon began playing the drums. Chanyeol wanted to be a singer after listening to Unconditional Kismet by Yoo Young-jin. In addition to singing, he has participated in songwriting (under the name LOEY) for numerous EXO songs, Studio NNG hits, as well as his own singles. He hasn’t officially released a solo album yet, but we hope for one after his military service ends!

Many of his songs and collaborations have become award-winning bestsellers - from “Let Me Love You” with Junggigo, to “Stay with Me” with Punch which has over a million streams, and “Freal Luv” with Tinashe, Far East Movement, and Marshmello, which has almost 50 million views. He also founded Studio NNG in 2019 with long-time collaborator MQ. They’ve since released numerous singles, music videos, and vlogs on their YouTube channel.

Chanyeol attended Kyung Hee Cyber University and took online classes for Culture and Arts Department of Business Administration. Prior to his enlistment, Chanyeol took graduate studies at Inha University for interior design. He enlisted into the military as an active duty soldier on March 29, 2021, and is serving in the Red Golden Bat Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division. His expected discharge date is September 28, 2022.

As a multi-passionate Sagittarius, Chanyeol’s depth and breadth of projects is well-known both in Korea and across the world. With varying interests in singing, rapping, songwriting, producing, musical instruments, fashion, acting, interior design, bowling, languages, and more, there’s no end in sight to what he will accomplish in his long and impressive career. As a warm-hearted and playful member of the Beagle Line, and a thoughtful, dedicated participant in all aspects of the music production process, EXO wouldn’t be EXO without Chanyeol.
