Autumn leaves in cold hands - Part one: the phone call.
The echoes of the phone rang through the empty house breaking the silence.
*BRING*
*BRING*
*BRING*
The phone remained unanswered before footsteps came from the stairs causing them to creak under the weight of whoever was on them, the boy was wearing white socks a black t-shirt and black sweatpants as he made his way over to the shelf the red house phone had been sitting on picking it up causing the house to fall back to silence.
"Torres residence speaking, Who might this be?" the boy asked in a calm tone
"MCPD, LT.Thatcher Davis. Is this Cesar Torres?" he asked sternly causing Cesar on the other end to raise is eyebrow in suspicion slightly
"Yes, speaking. Why?"
"Please state your home address, we'll be on our way shortly."
"*REDACTED INFORMATION.*"
The call cuts causing the house to fall back into silence once more; the only sounds that can be heard are the sounds of Cesar's breathing and the ticking of the clock hung up on the wall.
*TICK*
*TICK*
*TICK*
"September 21st 1992" the calendar read, Cesar's mother was still asleep in her bed upstairs as Cesar anxiously waited on the stairs.
"3:34 AM" Cesar read the clock out loud to himself, he could hear the sound of the rain hitting off the roof of the house, it was a calming sound. He liked the rain.
The sound of a car pulling up outside the house and the car door opening and shutting rang through Cesar's ears as he stood up getting ready to answer the door
*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*
Before he unlocked the door looking at the two police officers standing infront of him.
"Officer Ruth Weaver and LT. Thatcher Davis." one of them stated
"Hello officers, would you mind telling me what this is all about?" Cesar sounding anxious
"Your fingerprints were discovered on Mark Heathcliff's bedroom door." he started
"When's the last time you saw Mark?"
Cesar's heart dropped to his stomach hearing this, it was all starting to make sense now his eyes wide in pure terror thinking about what might have happened to Mark, he hadn't been in school for a few days and now the police were at his door to talk about him?
"About five days, why do you ask?"
The officers turned to each other speaking in a hushed whisper before turning to Cesar and speaking in a gentle softer tone than they once were.
"I'm very sorry, Cesar."
"What?! What happened to him!!"
Cesar's voice cried out desperate and looking for answers but the silence he was met with already told him everything he needed to know.
"I'll miss you, dear friend."
