love is a social construct, you chant in your head as you passed by a young teenage couple making out in the middle of the street. love isn’t real, you mutter under your breath as their sappy and stupid laughter plagued your ears. love isn’t romantic, it’s overrated, you repeated for the nth time as if you’re trying to convince yourself of it. but then you remember him and you instantly halt your steps.

because who are you kidding? love is real. you know him! he had the smoothest voice and the prettiest eye crinkle when he smiles. he had rough hands that were much larger than your own and the sweetest voice when he praises you for the most mundane things. 

love is real, in fact too real, when you run a hand through his hair in a feeble attempt to comfort him as he did with you too many times or when he held your cold hands near his chest in a hopeless attempt to keep you warm when it did nothing but send you into a love induced shock.

so right now, in the middle of your jog, you stop. you didn’t want your nerves to tingle like a bunch of fireworks on a midsummer’s eve nor your heart to pound like the rapid beats of a drum but what can you do when you see love staring right at you with his beautiful hazel eyes and gentle smile waiting with his arms outstretched for you to come home to?

at that point, with legs weakened, you fully concede to defeat. love is real and his name is sugawara koushi.
