I would love a tv show based on Hetty’s origin story. It could follow Hetty’s OG team during the Cold War. It could have a young Owen Granger, young AJ Chegwidden, Sterling Bridges, Harris Keane, and Charles Langston.

My idea is that it opens with modern Hetty telling the story before she dies, maybe tired of all the secrets. The show could focus on the Clandestine Unit.

This is GOLD!!

This Is GOLD!!

Prompt: Deeks talking to Arkady about his relationship with Roberta.

A/N: I figure this takes place after Anna gets rescued.

***

The Russian and The Hippy

“Deeks, I don’t think this is necessary,” Kensi said as he stalked up the sidewalk.

“Oh, it definitely is,” he insisted darkly, walking fast enough that Kensi had to lightly jog to keep up.

“Babe, maybe we should-“

He spun around, cutting off her gentle suggestion.

“No! That man-” he jabbed his finger at Arkady’s house-“has been secretly meeting with my mother. It’s not right...it’s, its, messed up and weird and completely wrong.”

“Ok, now you’re getting a little ridiculous,” Kensi muttered as he stopped in front of the door and punched the doorbell. “What exactly are you planning on doing?”

“Finding out his intentions for my mother.” Deeks jabbed the bell a couple more times, keeping his finger on the button for several seconds the last time.

“Deeks!” Giving him a look, Kensi jerked his hand away. “He might be sleeping.”

“Kens, it’s after 11 on a week day. If he’d still in bed that’s his own fault,” Deeks said, not having any sympathy for the man. Kensi started to his something in his ear, but broke off at the sound of someone clambering to the door.

“If this is attempt to kidnap me, I am not in the mood,” Arkady announced as he cracked the door. Thankfully he was dressed in pajamas, this time. He was also toting a gun.

Along with accompanying him, Kensi had insisted that Deeks leave all weapons behind.

“Oh, Kensi, Deeks, not that I am not overjoyed to see you, but what are you doing here? Has something happened?”

“No, Arkady, everything’s fine,” Kensi assured him quickly.

“I wouldn’t exactly say fine,” Deeks countered, pursing his lips. Looking mildly worried, Arkady opened the door a little wider, and held his arm wide.

“Come in then. Would you like something to drink?” He immediately headed for a tray of alcohol, setting the gun on a side table.

“No thanks, I’m good.” Arkady dropped his hand, giving Deeks a disappointed look.

“You know, Deeks, you are very uptight person. You should learn to be less stressed,” he said.

“Is that the line you used on my mom to get her to spend time with you?”

“Oh yes, your dear mother.” Arkady smiled fondly. “I have many enjoyable evenings with Roberta.”

Evenings?” Deeks repeated, taking a step forward and shaking off Kensi’s restraining hand. Wisely, Arkady’s eyebrows rose with mild worry. “I think you need to tell me the exact nature of your relationship with my mother.”

Arkardy scoffed, waving his hand expansively.

“We are...friends. Good friends.”

“Oh no,” Kensi groaned.

“Sometime we have zoom call and talk for many hours,” he continued, undaunted by Deeks increasingly murderous looks.

“That’s it? You just chat on zoom?”

“And have dinner and drinks. Your mother is very fond of my artwork.”

“Oh my god! You’re dating my mom!” Deeks shouted. “You are so lucky Kensi hid my gun.”

“What, it is completely innocent?” Arkady protested. “So sometimes we may drink a little too much vodka and Roberta becomes more affectionate. It has not gone beyond a kiss.”

“A kiss-?” Deeks felt Kensi tugging on his arm again, but he shook her off again and closed in on Arkady.

“Perhaps a night or two when we fell asleep in bed-“

“Ok, it’s time to leave!” Kensi announced as Deeks who took another step forward, eyes darkening. Arkady had enough sense to arm himself with a full liquor bottle. Using a considerable amount of force, Kensi managed to tug him several feet away. “Deeks, you cannot kill him.”

“Did you hear what he was saying about my mom? He kissed her!”

“What is wrong with that?” Arkady protested, having the courage to move closer. “We are both consenting adults and Bertie is lovely woman. Very sharing.”

Kensi gave Deeks another tug and manhandled him to the door before he could act on any impulses.

“It’s probably a good idea if you avoid us for this next few weeks,” Kensi threw over her shoulder as she pushed him through the doorway.

“Oh my god, did you hear what he was saying? He and my mom-” Deeks made a coming together motion with his hands and grimaced.

“Baby, I know you’re upset, but I’m sure it’s nothing.”

“But what if it’s not,” he asked, a horrifying thought occurring to him. “God, what if it gets serious? I cannot have that man as my father.”

Kensi pressed her lips together, holding back a smile.

“You think this is funny?”

“No, I was just thinking that if Arkady and your mom got together, Anna would be your sister,” Kensi said with a smirk.

“Alright, we’re going straight to my mom’s place. There is no way I’m letting her marry a man who drinks vodka for breakfast and has tassels on his bath towels.”

Kensi just sighed as he climbed into the truck and turned the key in the ignition, his eyes set in grim determination.

A/N: A dialogue drabble for one of the many times when the team must have been questioned by the IA department.

***

Interviewer: Tell me how this all started.

Deeks, drawing in a breath between his pursed lips: Ooh, that’s an interesting question. Well, I began as a lawyer—you know, wanting to see justice served and all that—but I realized that wasn’t for me, so I applied to the police academy. I didn’t have the easiest time there.

Interviewer: Agent Deeks, perhaps you could just stick to your time here with NCIS.

Deeks: It’s actually Investigator Deeks. Don’t ask me why. Do you want to hear about my first case with NCIS when I was just a detective, my 10 and a half years as a liaison, or my most recent position as an investigator?

Interview, bemused: Whichever you think is most relevant to your work with the agency.

Deeks, pleasantly: Oh, I’d say they’re all relevant. My first case with NCIS really forged my place on the team, though it took some time for everyone to realize my brilliance. As a liaison, I had the pleasure of forging a relationship between NCIS and LAPD for the betterment of both agencies with the intent of reducing miscommunications, errors, and—

Interviewer: Investigator Deeks, are you quoting directly from the handbook?

Deeks: I am a lawyer. It’s kind of our thing.

Interviewer: You’re still a lawyer?

Deeks, shrugging: I like to have options. By the way, page 326 in the handbook has a very critical, and potentially legally disastrous, error which I’d be happy to tell you about if you ask nicely.

Interviewer: I think we’re done here.

Deeks: Happy to be of help. *he starts to walk away* The legal offer still stands if you change your mind!
