Beautiful edit and a decade later I am still not over Matthew Crawley's death. Talk about timeless.
"Hundreds of years ago they fell in love like we did." TIMELESS by Taylor Swift

Another fanart :) I am very fond of Lady Mary.
I like the relaxing banquet scene at the end of the first season. Everyone wearing white clothes and nice hats, but the dark tide is raging. Mary and Matthew broke up in grief. The lord received a telegram. In the peaceful banquet, it was announced loudly that the First World War had begun, they were at war with Germany. Then swish, the season came to an abrupt end.
This scene is very beautiful, the editing is done in one go, showing the sudden changes in an understatement. It is a very good way of consolidating. The peaceful and happy abbey will undergo earth-shaking changes due to the advent of war.
It makes me think of "Gone with the Wind", the ball of the Twelve Oaks, and the Civil War announcement . "We are at war with the Yankees!" The presentation of this scene is cheerful call from young men, disputing between several parties, and kisses from lovers. Scarlett quickly agreed to Charles' proposal.
At the contrary, Downton’s war declaration was directly presented in a smooth picture. People were silent and shocked. The picture still stayed on tea cups, turf, and parasols, the war was coming.
Another fanart for lady Mary!!!
Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley❤️❤️
Actually when I found Lady Mary’s fandom page is not “Mary Crawley” anymore but “Mary Talbot”, I was shocked lol.
I was so used to the “Crawley”, I didn’t realize that women will change their surname after they get married. Mary Talbot sounds a bit weird for me, honestly 🤣
My grandma has double-surname combine with both her and her husband’s, married women in that period do so in my country, but we don’t do that anymore now. By the way, sometimes marriage between two same surnames families is forbidden, not for law but for some cultural customs reasons. That’s some marriage culture in Taiwan, how about your country? Do women changing their surname or adding their husband’s name after they get married? I like to learn more about different cultures and make new friends 😇
Anna and lady Mary. ❤️❤️
I want to draw many many Lady Mary 😂😍❤️
I’ve decided that in another life I was an artist/mystery writer/librarian/something that was married to either an aristocratic private detective (ala Lord Peter Wimsey) or a Chief Inspector from Scotland Yard (ala Inspector Roderick Alleyn) or wise-cracking ex-detective (ala Nick Charles). I’d have my career, but I’d still be able to help solve cases with the hubby if time permits. Sometimes I’d be caught up in them - but we’d be able to work it out in the end. That would be the perfect life for me! (I’d love to be a mystery writer anyway.)
Yes, the picture is from Downton Abbey, but I’ve been reading a lot of Ngaio Marsh lately. I feel like Matthew Goode would be a perfect Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn and Michelle Dockery would be a great Agatha Troy. I think we’re due for a new Roderick Alleyn series (just like we’re in need for a new Campion and a new Wimsey series). Just sayin’.
