late to the party but Jeandori!

context behind the names: in my first YTTD play through i named him Missouri, and in the second Ulysses S. Grant. i have forgotten this numerous times and had to do a double take why the cast was enemies with a long dead union general

 A parallel I’ve noticed between Shin and Midori is that they’re both emotional people that try to come off as logical.

They pretend to be cold and calculated villains, they’re both intelligent and can pose a threat to the other participants, but when it comes down to it most of their actions are motivated by fear (or just strong emotion in general). Shin is terrified of practically everyone around him and a lot of his plans stem from decisions made on impulse, and Hiyori is so paranoid about dying that he’s willing to sacrifice anyone to better his chance of survival, plus he has like 30 increasingly insane back-up plans for any given situation (remember how over-prepared he was for the banquet).

This incredibly intense fear of death is a common trait between them (which makes me wonder if one of them got it from the other), but they do kind of differ in the other emotions that motivate them. For Shin it’s either anger or care for others (by others I mean Kanna specifically and almost no one else), and for Midori it’s a more twisted version of that with the addition of some good ol’ sadism.

But either way, both of them try to make themselves come off as uncaring and incapable of feeling fear because they see emotion as weakness. Which is a lot easier for Hiyori because the way he “cares” for people is already rooted in sadism, and a lot more difficult for Shin because his weird roundabout way of showing affection genuinely comes from the heart

So the conclusion is that they’re Foils, but in the deeply horrifying way instead of the gay way

a sleepover except shin is too terrified to sleep and hiyori doesn't really need sleep so it's more like. an over
