if you've been online for these last few weeks- you may have noticed how often i've been pushing shahed's gfm. her campaign has been verified (source -> no. 224 on el-shab-hussein/nabulsi's sheet of vetted campaigns). and if y'all haven't had the chance to become acquainted, this is shahed:
shahed is a 21 year old who used to be a student at al-azhar university before the genocide began. with both her parents having taken ill, she is the sole provider for her family right now, including her five siblings, youngest of whom is just a baby. before the war, shahed used to take/share the most beautiful photos. this is one of them (taken from her tumblr @shahednhall | shahed's instagram
with the generous support of friends/strangers alike, shahed has been able to reach over $40K USD, enough to begin evacuating some of her family members (her younger siblings + her father) who are in desperate need of medical care
however, our work is far from over
shahed + her family are 17 strong and they all deserve a chance to live a life worth living. the situation in gaza is beyond catastrophic and grows more dangerous with each passing day. i have been in communication with shahed and would like to share her most recent message to me:
shahed: I have been displaced from my area, my circumstances are very difficult. I can't open the Internet for long periods, so I want you to help me more in publishing my campaign. I want to have reached a very difficult stage. I want to complete the campaign as soon as possible. I want to rest, I feel that I really survived. I don't want my campaign to stop halfway.
just yesterday, shahed shared that she narrowly escaped death while trying to get food/water for her family. the attacks/bombings at her campsite have forced her to move yet again
every displacement puts both a physical and emotional strain on these families. more often than not, there is little warning before they have to move- and when the time comes- they have to act quickly, leaving behind whatever they can't carry on their backs/can't afford to take with them <- yes, it costs money for them to be able to move.
every message i receive fills me with a mixture of relief and heartbreak-- i do not wish to know what i'll feel if i were to stop getting messages from shahed. i can't. not when i know there's a path to get her family to safety
that is why i am starting this donation match for her campaign. i don't have very much to offer, but i know that if enough people contribute a little, it can amount to a lot đź–¤

allow me to introduce you once again to the ayyad's. they are a wonderful family of 8. all of them led beautiful, rich lives-- here are some of their stories:

did you know in gaza ~50,000 pregnant women are awaiting to give birth + ~5,500 due within the next 30 days? or despite the lack of functioning hospitals, ~180 babies are born every day? (source)
salem was only brought into this world a few weeks ago, and those weeks have been anything but easy. the scarcity of food left salem's mother, manal, malnourished throughout her pregnancy-- which led to salem being born anemic and very frail.
the constant trauma manal faces on a daily basis has made her unable to produce any breast milk. without access to formula, the family has resorted to extreme measures and feeds baby salem a slurry of cooked flour and water- an extremely dangerous diet for any newborn to be on.
a baby's cry is the first thing new mothers are blessed to hear. a sign of life that fills the room. salem doesn't cry. not anymore, at least. he's too weak to do so.
as the genocide continues- despite the iof's flagrant attempts to squash any chance of life- palestine lives.
whether or not it thrives is on us.

there is no denying the power the english language holds over the western world-- or rather the world itself. time has shown me how limiting it really is. how many words are lost in translation? how many people are shunned because their tongue has been deemed inferior?
i'd like to shine a spotlight on hossam's campaign (verified/vetted; no. 251 on el-shab-hussein/nabulsi's sheet) his ability to campaign for himself is hampered by the imperfection of google translate and the volatility and precariousness of the ongoing genocide he suffers through. hossam writes:
"i have not lost anything material. i have only lost my entire family, except for the wives of my young brothers and their children. therefore, i am responsible for taking care of them."
my heart aches for hossam. he is waylaid by a lack of internet, but begs you to please consider his campaign/donate to his family so that they can have safety and survival. they deserve that and more. again in hossam's words:
"i created this campaign, hoping for all of you to succeed and obtain the money for their travel and private life insurance for a short period of time, so that we can at least feel safe from traveling and sitting. in a relatively quiet place, away from the machine of death, then thank you to those who stood by me, and thank you to all the donors, and thank you to all who will donate after this post. thank you all, from my broken heart, thank you."

highlighting amal's lovely family once again on her behalfđź–¤ amal introduced herself to me about ~1 week ago with a message asking for help. before being displaced, she was studying french and working towards obtaining her master's degree
in this video, she is describing her family's current living conditions- which have become even more unbearable/inhumane as the temperatures continue to rise during these summer months. her baby girl, maryam, has only ever known a life of war and violence. the cost of basic necessities for families like amal's continue to rise- forcing them to pull from their evacuation funding in order to sustain what little standard of living they have.
amal has told me she has difficulty boosting her own content here due to how weak her wifi/signal is. ghazzans are reliant on e-sims to communicate- however, they must travel far distances in order to activate them. this trip alone puts them at greater risk. the messages that do get to reach us are a privilege to receive b/c they are coming at a great personal expense.
her family continues to lean on your generous support as they tirelessly work towards finding a path to safety. please help me elevate their voices even higher. since my first post, we have been able to double amal's donations. we must keep this momentum going as they are still very low in funds.

if yall have only drawn the line at kids being brutally martyred-- but have accepted the apartheid, mass starvation, targeted bombings of hospitals-- then your issue is not that palestinians are dying, it is that they are not dying in a way that's palatable to you
i won't dive into specifics because @siraj2024 deserves his right to privacy, but know his family is exhausted. they are ill. so much so that siraj was unable to write another daily update to share himself
what they want is a true place to call home. they will spend the time painstakingly lifting chunks of rubble- sweeping the floors covered in debris- and rebuild. because they have chosen to stay. and they deserve a chance to rebuild.
