Just a quick message
I didn't expect to see it trending on Tumblr, but I see the news of the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has crossed borders already. I myself have never the pleasure of visiting it, and I'm neither Parisian or religious, but it saddens me as a French to see a piece of our history go up in flames. Not to mention Notre Dame houses countless invaluable art pieces, many of which probably won't be spared.
The fire is unfortunately still burning as I'm writing this, the footage is playing non-spot on TV but I can't quite bring myself to believe it's happening.
I'm grateful to the firefighters trying to save what is still standing, to the historical societies already planing restoration work, and to those who have shared both their worry and their heartwarming stories of visiting Paris and Notre Dame.
I hope this masterpiece can be preserved as much as possible. It has seen centuries of history and world changes, and it would be a shame if it didn't see many more.
As the Parisians say: "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur".
