WIP Whenever!!

WIP whenever!!

@ouroboros-hideout tagged me for this! Tysm!!!

I haven't got too much in the works currently, but I do have the lineart for a piece I'm working on currently. In a previous post with some npc shots, I mentioned having an oc based around the sniper commando in the nest at the Black Sapphire (the one you beat the shit out of lol). This is him! Garnett "Sighthound" Cross, BARGHEST sniper, and one of the protagonists for my Phantom Liberty side story shit I have with my gf. Kerberos is also part of his storyline, and I have a few other ocs for it as well, all that I'll post about in time. He's def one of my favorite ocs to draw but I'd be lying if I said the Rasetsu isn't a pain in the ass to draw lol. I'll write a bit more about him whenever I post the finished piece ^_^

SIGHTHOUND

SIGHTHOUND

Alright, I can give you all a little Garnett lore now >:)

Garnett grew up at the foot of the badlands dam, in a little neighborhood ever-consumed in the smog of burning trash. At 17, along with his brothers Adrian and Gabriel, Garnett joined 6th Street and served with them for almost a decade. He joined 6th Street with aspirations of protecting the community he knew as family, but was met with a gang like any other. Extortion, drug manufacturing, theft. He stayed to be by his brothers’ side as long as he could force himself to, determined to stay with the only family he had left, but finally left after being ordered to kill a shopkeeper who refused to pay for 6th Street’s “protection”. The soldiers he’d served beside beat him half to death for what they dubbed cowardice, and with nowhere else to turn, he went to Dogtown, where Colonel Hansen nearly finished the beating 6th Street started. But Garnett was more than determined to prove himself. A man with his combat training and experience with the public was accepted into BARGHEST with open arms, excelling through training and taking flight as a soldier. He started out in the Prevention Unit, a seeming fit for a former militia member, but Garnett’s prowess was wasted there at the gate where a scanner did all the work. He was eagle-eyed, attentive beyond belief and quick to react. Briefly he worked as a sniper with units collecting airdrops, quickly moving up to working security in the stadium, and after 2 years, Garnett would find himself in the Black Sapphire’s own sniper nest. From there on top of the world, he hardly realized how far his aspirations had gone astray. Once aiming to protect his community, he’d become a guard dog for the rich and powerful. And soon, it’d all be ripped out from under him.

Sorry for the novel, I'm deranged about my ocs lol. Garnett's one of the protags for my PL side plot, so there'll be a lot more about him to follow!! I'm gonna be doing a little diagram of his tattoos and cyberware next, and I'll include some more facts about him for fun. I'm so obsessed with my ocs apologies in advance.

I spend an inappropriate amount of time thinking about my cyberpunk ocs, so I figured I'd write a little about some of my design principles for making a cyberpunk character that fits well into the world! These are just some of the guidelines I use for making characters that helps me flesh them out better. This is something I’ve had the idea to do for a bit, but you all also seem to love my ocs which only furthers my insanity!! Thank you all for my interest in them, it makes me so happy 😭

-Basing around an npc

For both Kerberos and Garnett, I based their characters around npcs present in the game, but this only works well in specific cases. For both of their bases, these are characters without major significance. Garnett's base, the sniper commando in the Black Sapphire sniper nest, is an npc with no name, no reoccurrence, and no real significance outside the scene where you knock him out. While this npc can be killed, you kind of have to go out of your way to do so. This left me with a good blank slate of a character to work with! Even better, this npc has motivation I was able to use. V knocks him out, steals his gun, and he presumably faces the consequences of not detecting and dispatching an intruder. While not all of my cyberpunk ocs are based around npcs, I find that it can make things a lot easier and more fun!

-Connection to V

This is actually a principle my girlfriend came up with, and I think it's not only useful, but can also be really fucking funny. Connections to any existing character are fun to develop, but I personally find V’s connections to be most interesting. V's had an influence on the better part of Night City in one way or another, and probably on your ocs too! While this influence can be positive or negative, I think it's way funnier if it's negative. Thinking realistically though, how many people is V the antagonist to? For Garnett, she snatches his huge expensive gun and gets him demoted. He may not hate her (he's too damn nice) but she undoubtably makes his life harder. For Kerberos, V's ultimately the one that kills Slider, another powerful netrunner in Dogtown. This has no direct effect on him, but it sure sets his nerves on end, and influences his story further down the road. Of course, it can get a little unrealistic to have every one of your ocs have this sort of connection, but be real, V's fucking everywhere, and their actions in the grand scheme of things will have an effect on your oc somewhere. I find its funniest when two ocs that have had separate interactions with V get to talking and realize they’ve been fucked over by the same person 😭

-Finding your niche

Any oc, whether they're a truly original character in an original storyline, or a fan character like I'm discussing, has a distinct place they fit into their world. With cyberpunk, a pre existing universe with its own rigidities, there's a billion things to consider when trying to find just where an oc fits, but that's the fun part! Which existing characters do they know, which are their allies and which their enemies? Who do they work for currently, and who in the past? Where are they from? How'd they end up where they are now? And the all important question of why the fuck are they still in Night City There's a LOT to consider when keeping things realistic, but don't get ahead of yourself. It's cyberpunk, and realism shouldn't be all you're shooting for! If you're not finding quite the right spot, don't be afraid to change things a little! It's virtually impossible to stick to canon 100% when making ocs for anything, so you might as well do shit your own way.

-Personal pieces

Almost every major npc in cyberpunk has a custom weapon, and some have custom vehicles as well. Both of these factors, I feel, are as crucial as anything else when making a cyberpunk oc. In Night City, your iron and your wheels are second only to your life. A lot can be said about a character by the weapon they wield. Is this just something they use to protect themselves, or is their weapon something they treat as an extension of their body? A tool or their baby? The same goes for vehicles. Is this some barely functional hunk of metal that gets them around, or would they scream and cry over the smallest scratch? Garnett's custom weapon, "Houndstooth", a brass knuckle trench knife, isn't something he has a particular attachment to. Sure he named it, sure its saved his life once or twice, but to him, it's just a knife. His car on the other hand, "Courser", a highly customized Quadra type-66 640 TS, is absolutely everything to him. It gets graffitied and he clutches his chest like he's been shot. First adding these, they seemed like trivial details akin to fun facts to me, but the more I developed on them, the more they contributed to his character. I say every part is my favorite to develop, but there's something about the weapons and vehicles I have a ton of fun with.

Done reading? Thank you hehe ok go work on your ocs NOW!!

Hey!! Got a BARGHEST oc? They looking for company? Look no further!! Garnett and Kerberos wanna hang! I wanna connect with my moots some more and I’m majorly bored too. If you have a BARGHEST oc (or really any cyberpunk oc!) shoot me a ref, and I’ll draw them chilling with Garnett or Ker! I might open comms in the future, but for now this is just for fun.

This is the OC fairy 🌼🧚‍♀️ When you get this in your ask box, please tell us three facts or trivia about one of your OCs, then pass it on to someone else 🌸 Let's learn about each other's OCs! 💛💐 (no pressure to do this if you'd rather not!)

YAHOO GARNETT FACT TIME!!!

1. Back in his days with 6th Street, one of Garnett’s brothers gave him a horrible ugly shitty 666th Street stick and poke tattoo on the back of his shoulder. Like I’m talking hideous.

2. The bridge of Garnett’s nose has a bend in it from being broken, specifically by Hansen, who, as with all new recruits, beat the shit out of him. I actually also have a bend in my nose from breaking it! Not in the same way though 😭

3. He has a very strong southern accent.

4. He adores plants, but is absolutely fucking horrible at keeping them alive.

5. He’s also trans!!

Hello hello hello, another brave soldier joining in on the OC ask game shenanigans. How could I resist:

💐Martinez

🌲Kerberos

🌹Garza

💧Cross

💐-For Aston! Fav place to relax-

A hard one, there’s too many great spots to chill in the badlands! Out by Laguna Bend, taking it easy in camp with the rest of the Aldecaldos, or, a personal favorite for literally chilling, the classic netrunner’s tub of ice water! Nothing beats it.

🌲-For Ker! Greatest strength and weakness-

One and the same. Reliance only upon himself.

🌹-For Lucino! Greatest fear-

Well, as someone siphoning corporate funds into a warlord’s pockets, you may think getting exposed is easily his biggest fear, but you’d be wrong. More than anything, Lucino fears Kurt will never forgive him for deserting during the Unification War.

💧-For Garnett! Biggest passion-

Nothing makes Garnett more proud than protecting the district he calls home. Keeping Dogtown safe is what he lives to do. For giving him sanctuary in the darkest moment of his life (yet lol), he feels his debt to Barghest and Dogtown as a whole can never be payed, but he’ll never stop trying.

For the ask list 😌 Betrayal

No one was specified for this one… so let’s do everyone!

Garnett-

I supposeeeee you could consider him disobeying orders from 6th Street as betrayal? His brothers certainly do. Is basically all of Barghest turning on him after V kicks his ass and steals his gun betrayal? Kind of but he’s such an ass kisser he just thinks it’s justified.

Lucino-

Yeah, desertion is just betrayal straight up 😭 as for being betrayed… he’s had some VERY important data almost leaked by a former coworker, but has since had it.. taken care of.

Kerberos-

Being betrayed? Not really. Now, doing the betrayal? Oh baby, that’s Ker’s entire character! Time and time and time again, to protect his own importance to Barghest, Kerberos has betrayed his former colleagues from Cynosure. As for the specifics of these betrayals, I have too much fun being vague. Hehe.

Aston-

Well, wouldn’t you know it! A betrayed colleague! Aston has not done any betraying himself, though. Experiencing it himself, you know, left sort of a bad taste in his mouth.

Heyllo! Have fun with 5-17-22!

LETS GOOO!! Gonna do these for Garnett :D

5-On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?

Cigarettes, lighter, keys, wallet, knife, several loose bullets, a tooth Hansen knocked out of his mouth when he joined. You know. Normal things.

17-What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

Garnett’s parents were both members of 6th Street, so you know he’s been playing with toy guns his whole damn life. He was HUGE into BB guns when he was young. He never shot any eyes out but his brother Adrian still has a bb lodged in his knee from Garnett being a little too confident with it.

22-What does your character like in other people?

Honestly it’d be easier to list the things Garnett doesn’t like in people. He makes an effort to get along with and understand everyone he meets, and there’s very, very few people he doesn’t like. That being said, he prefers those who are honest about their intentions and feelings, even if they aren’t necessarily good.

Night City memories.

This may be similar to something someone has done in the past, but I thought it seemed like a fun idea for a vp game! I’ll be tagging some people for it, but there’s no pressure, it’s just for fun. Aaand of course you don’t have to be tagged to participate!

Rules: Snap some shots! Places (or people) near and dear to your ocs across NC! Filters and photo frames are optional ofc, it’s all up to you!

For this series, these’ll be pics from Garnett :)

Night City Memories.

Dogtown from the top of the Petrochem damn. Garnett’s childhood neighborhood sits right below it, where his brothers still live.

Night City Memories.

The Black Sapphire, right after he was promoted to its sniper nest. A quick commemorative photo, before he went and got wasted to celebrate.

Night City Memories.

His first post outside the stadium. Many fond memories of standing guard in that tower for many hot summer days.

Night City Memories.

View outside his first apartment in the Stacks. What it lacked in… generally anything good, it made up for in phenomenal views.

Night City Memories.

The stadium’s main gate. Fresh from 6th Street beating his ass, Garnett limped here in search of a fresh start.

Night City Memories.

A street from his childhood neighborhood. He misses it often, but it’s all just nostalgia. No one misses staring at that damn dam.

Night City Memories.

The collapsed ferris wheel not far outside his old neighborhood. He climbed it many times with his brother as a kid, and even broke his first bone here, a much less fond memory.

Night City Memories.

Laguna Bend’s shoreline. Garnett went here with his brothers often and fished. They were never trying to catch anything, just using it as an excuse to hang out.

Tagging @ouroboros-hideout @barghest-ripperdoc @beskaralan @dustymagpie @olath124 and anyone else who wants to join!!
