Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb Review

I've become obsessed with these drinks since finding some at a local dollar store, and I'm not even a big fan of carbonated drinks most of the time. The cans are just super pretty. Anyway, I have begun a hunt for all ten flavors. I hope it pans out; I've heard that grapefruit (Saturn) and watermelon (Pluto) are difficult to come by. But we'll see. I picked up a couple more flavors from a nearby FYE yesterday, and I gave them my contact information in case they happen to rotate in a flavor I don't yet have.

In the meantime, I'm going to review the ones I have tasted and rank them from worst to best. The current review subjects are:

Sailor Moon ~ Pomelo

Sailor Mercury ~ Pear

Sailor Mars ~ Strawberry

Sailor Venus ~ Mango

Sailor Chibi Moon ~ Lychee

Sailor Neptune ~ Kiwi

Coming soon is:

No one at the moment

And the ones not (yet) in my possession:

Sailor Jupiter ~ Cucumber

Sailor Saturn ~ Grapefruit

Sailor Uranus ~ Pineapple

Sailor Pluto ~ Watermelon

These lists will be updated (if) as I acquire more flavors and work down the queue.

With that out of the way, let's get started.

6. Sailor Moon ~ Pomelo

Usagi. Meatball Head. I love you, but I don't love your sparkling water. I expected something citrus-y since the pomelo is a citrus fruit, but frankly, I didn't really taste much. It was mostly carbonation followed by a weird, bitter aftertaste. At least the can is pretty.

5. Sailor Neptune ~ Kiwi

Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb Review

Design-wise, this is one of my favorites. The teal/turquoise color scheme is gorgeous. Unfortunately, we cannot judge solely on appearance...and the flavor here isn't great. You can at least taste a hint of the promised kiwi fruit, but it's super faint, and it has the same weird aftertaste as the pomelo. Sorry, Michiru. It seems that, ironically enough, Ocean Bomb isn't the scene for the Senshi of the ocean.

4. Sailor Venus ~ Mango

Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb Review

I went into this one pretty excited since I'd heard good things about it, but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype. It's not bad, per se--just a little weak for my liking. I was hoping it would pack a bit more of a punch; we all know Minako is more than just a pretty face, after all.

3. Sailor Chibi Moon ~ Lychee

Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb Review

I can't get past the texture of a real lychee, but I do like lychee-flavored stuff. Thankfully, unlike her mother, Chibiusa actually brings this flavor to her drink. It's mild and sometimes gets lost in the carbonation, but it's delicious and sweet when you do taste it.

2. Sailor Mars ~ Strawberry

This was another one with a lot of online hype and high expectations. I think it delivered more than the mango, though. It isn't super intense, but it's sweet and flavorful. It's a classic, beautiful taste for the classically beautiful Rei.

1. Sailor Mercury ~ Pear

Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb Review

(My brother accidentally knocked it over and dented the can. Oops. No hard feelings, though.)

A surprise hit in my book! I was wary since I'd never had a pear or anything pear-flavored before, but it was quite nice. Ami really does know her way around (sparkling) water, striking a delicate balance between the sweetness of the pear and the neutrality of the base drink.
