An extraordinary Acheulean handaxe knapped around a fossil shell circa 500,000-300,000 years ago.
The maker appears to have deliberately flaked around the shell to preserve and place it in a central position. As a result this handaxe has been described as an early example of artistic thought.

The GOES image viewer allows you to look at a live image of on entire side of the globe at any time. It updates about every 10 minutes and even allows you to build animations of the last few days.
It's just crazy to have this perspective so easily accessible. I can't help thinking about what it took to take the first full image of the Earth back in 1972 and now we can get one every few minutes.

there IS actually a reason why seconds and minutes (and degrees for geometry) are in base 60 instead of base 10, and if you want to blame someone for that, blame the very specific way Babylonians counted with their fingers.

A bone from a fossil had its DNA examined and scientists were able to see what natural abilities the bird had when it was alive; like seeing in the ultraviolet spectrum.
Located in New Zealand for millions of years until humans arrived.

It ate my first attempt at posting I guess, so here we go again. Yesterday I made a good boy and it was my first time messing with full body armature for plushes. I don’t think I’ll be doing that again though, unless it’s a special order. He doesn’t have his fingers yet, I’m debating whether or not to add them anyways.
