This is a long form fic I've been working on for a while! I'm finally ready to release the designs and summary.
Years after Aspheeras defeat and Zane's death by her hand, the Ninja must face the rise of a new and powerful villain with a team unbalanced… but when they are forced into the Realm of Madness, they will discover the past is not what it seems. What is lost must be found, Ninjagos fate rests on it.
Or: What could have happened if Wu had gone to the Never Realm instead of the ninja?
It goes like this: When Wu realizes who the ice emperor is, and when his pleas for mercy from Zane fall on deaf ears, he is forced to end the reign of the forsaken emperor... by banishing him to the realm of Madness. He returns to Ninjago quietly, and never tells the ninja, letting them believe Aspheera killed Zane.
The ninja, three or so years after Aspheera, are off balance still. they’ve compensated as much as they can, but the Zane shaped hole in the team still stings. After a string of vandalism on several different museums, the ninja are enlisted to help stop the crime- they patrol Ninjagos museum in hopes of capturing the would-be thief, but the criminal is craftier than they expect- and they upgrade from vandalism to theft, stealing a gauntlet and taking off. the ninja give chase and the thief takes advantage of the gauntlets powers to open a portal beneath the ninja... where they are spat out into the unforgiving Realm of Madness.
Left behind in Ninjago, Pixal and Wu gather together the other elemental masters and old friends to help combat the villain behind the theft- a powerful man named Broden Voss who’s got a grudge against Cyrus Borg. They must trust the ninja can find their way to the portal back to Ninjago in the Mountain of Madness on their own as they attempt to stop Ninjago from being destroyed by Voss.
The ninja have no idea where to start, but lucky for them a kind hearted stranger offers to escort them to the mountain... and he calls himself Birdy.
