He had his master to thank for that as he took after Sephiroth in some ways and being calm when something huge is happening, but in the case of needing to repair his best friend and love that he hasn’t seen in four years? Definitely needed to be level headed and be the rock so that Buster could have hope this will all work. And since in events like these, most people wouldn’t consider busting into a weapons shop to get sword oil since there were a very select few that even wielded swords. Listening to Buster as he spoke before standing straight up and folding the world map up, he would keep note to get a map of the entire area with their ever growing shopping list they needed. He nodded about the shine part and as for the fighting part, the silver had to think.

“If it doesn’t aggravate your wound nor injure your leg more, then use some materia that we have on us.” That way he would do all the fighting if needed which was alright with him. As for the cure, Masamune spoke up. “If it helps at all, then we’ll do whatever it takes.” Sighing out, he then placed a hand onto Buster’s shoulder as amethyst eyes gazed at the blond as he spoke up. “Buster…..promise me. If it starts to get worse or your low on energy, then tell me right away. I can try transferring my own energy to you if needed, but I’m not going to lose you……not again.” Squeezing the younger’s shoulder a bit, he then nodded as he went to collect his things as he spoke once more. “We should consider getting some type of food for energy in a pinch, if they have any apples then we’ll try to grab a few of them and water helps too. Granted I can use an ice materia if it comes to that, but it would help to pick some extra supplies up.”

Food, water, potions, ethers, and sword oil/polish……anything else to add to the list they needed? Reassurance that he won’t lose his best friend again? That would be handy about now.

As Masamune started to take charge and was reassuring him, Buster gave the other a gentle smile. It really did make him feel better that someone was looking after him. He hated to admit it but...it had felt like a long time she he had anyone focusing on his own well being.

“Okay...I promise.” he replied with a nod. “I’ll try and take it easy. I can probably use material well enough though I only have two slots.”

Apples...it had been a long time since he had apples. When was it...last...he tried to think back....

He was able to pick up a few in Cosmo Canyon and that is when Cloud bought him his cloak. That was the last time. He had seen them a few times before but it felt strange to ask for them because his money wasn’t his own and the world was about to end and apples were the last thing on anyone's mind.

“If we can find a few apples...that would be nice.” he added, coming back to reality. “I haven’t had them in a while...I hope when we get home...there are still some apple trees growing...“

Staying silent and hoped that Lazard was okay with this, he listened to what the director had to say, nodding along as he made some great points since on the one hand if they stayed here, then the guy would have extra work to deal with if anything stolen, blown out or anything else went on. Plus….he highly doubt that the president would appreciate his money going into repairing the tower, though if it caused him a heart attack then by all means. Then on the other hand with both of them leaving for a week, even if they did screw something up then HR and Shin-ra could deny everything and also didn’t need to pay them. But overall as he got the approval from Lazard, he smiled more before saluting once more.

“Director, do not worry. I’ll be there to make sure that nothing get’s out of hand, especially with Buster. And we both promise that we will not cause any trouble nor destruction. Plus we both have our own budget from our master’s so no payroll needed. Also as for getting back, we’ll be back a day before they do so nothing seems suspicious.” Releasing the pose, he then nodded more as he grinned. “Thanks again Director! I’ll make sure to bring you back something from Wutai!”

Turning as he waved to Lazard….he never did mention to him they were heading to Wutai until he said it…..oops. Oh well, shouldn’t be a problem right? Heading to meet up with Buster, he hoped that he managed to talk Reno into helping them get to and from the continent.

Lazard smiled at the other’s enthusiasm. “Bring me back one of those silk robes if you remember. In the very least a lucky cat statue.”

-----

Buster in the meantime was working on sweet talking the Turks...or in the very least blackmailing them when Masa came looking for him.

“You are evil you know that?” Reno sighed heavily. “Fine fine...you don’t snitch on us, we will take you guys along. But when we land we don’t know you we don’t talk to you we got nothing to do with you!”

“You are simply our ride.” The blond blade grinned. “You won’t even know we are there...”

“I doubt it.” Rude mumbled as he fixed his gloves. “But it might be interesting.”

It was easy to watch his master take command in an instant since he had been trained from birth to do so and Masa only had to watch. However taking command in reality where he didn’t have his master to rely on…..the silver really hoped he was doing a good job since he watched for two decades and yet the moment that he had to be in charge, he freezes. Well nothing like an almost end of the world and a journey to make one become a leader right? As he heard Buster promise, that made the elder relax since he honestly wouldn’t know what to do with himself if he did lose the blond but hearing that Buster only has two materia slots…..they had to figure out what he could use and switch out if needed.

Looking through his own materia that he still had on him, Masamune chose out both Earth and Revive as he then held them in his hands. He didn’t use these materia much anyways so they would be better in Buster’s. Though before he could say anything, Buster spoke up about the apples and with the mention of Banora and it’s Dumbapples, Masamune had to take a deep breath in and out. “They…..would have regrown the apples by now right? The tress had four years to recover so that would make a difference right?”

A treat, a very special treat to have after all this was over and they made it to Banora. Placing the cloak that Buster was letting him use while in town for now, he slipped the hood over his head, making sure the silver tresses were out of sight. “Right, we should get moving while we have the daylight on our side. You have everything you need?”

“They still had a tree left last time I was there...” he smiled lightly at the thought though the smile faded after the memory played through. There was trees blooming in Banora when he was there with Zack. They even had apples on them. But then the missiles came and everything was turned to ash. He simply shook his head, his blond locks falling across his shoulders as he stood and grabbed their bag with what supplies they had. “I have everything...there is no reason for us to stay here any longer.”

As he scanned the room for anything left behind, he slung the bag over his shoulder. “Oh...hey...before leave the area....do you think we could stop someplace first? It is out on the wastelands so it is away from town but...It is still pretty important. There is something I want to look for there. Something that I would like to take with me.” He spoke as if going there wasn’t a big deal at all, but the look in his eyes was almost pleading, giving away the importance of stopping on the way.

Silk robe or lucky cat statue, definitely had to get something nice for Lazard and especially his master before they came back from Costa del sol. Though finding the blond weapon was easy since he had to go to the Turk’s floor and the silver seemed to get in on the tail end of the conversation since Reno didn’t seem to happy though from the way that Buster was smiling, they got the ride. “Hey Reno. Well, it seems that you managed to get our ride easily Buster. And I got the unofficial approval from the Director. Basically, as long as we don’t cause any trouble then we’ll be in the clear. Though if we do get in trouble, then Shin-ra will simply claim they know nothing.”

Which was normal but they would be in Wutai so again, extra careful. He then turned his attention to the red head as Masamune nodded once more. “Thank you once again for taking us Reno.”

Buster had a shit eating grin on his face but Reno rolled his eyes and shrugged. “Look. Don’t thank me for anything ‘cause I don’t know anything. You don’t exist as far as I am concerned. As long as you don’t snitch on our drinking trips, we don’t see you. Now...while it ain’t any business of yours, I have to leave for Wutai in an hour so...gotta make my checks or whatever. By the way...” he added quickly. “We’ll be swinging back by there next week. Anyone who misses is gonna get left behind. I ain’t SOLIDER so I will leave your ass behind.”

“Understood.” Buster nodded but couldn’t help looking like an excited little kid. “Masa, We better go grab anything we need and hurry back. Unless you wanna hang around and buy what we might need when we get there.”

Sand and Silk

The pure white alabaster moon shone down upon the Persian desert sands, seated in the sky like a pearl wrapped in the folds of dark navy silk. The city of Baharnak, was sleeping peacefully, unaware of the small strike team that had penetrated the city walls and was waiting to make its move.

It was a rather ingenious plan. One of the regular trading caravans had been bribed (and paid handsomely for their efforts) to transport a bit of extra cargo. Wrapped up in the elaborately decorated rugs and hiding in the date baskets was six Greek warriors who had been marked for the task of creating an easy entrance to the army which was waiting outside the city gates over the dunes.

It was a rather ingenious plan. Taken from the example of Achilles and his assault on the City of Troy, this much less inconspicuous version of the “Trojan Horse” was the brain child of Busterivas; a young Greek royal who was seeking to make a name for himself. Busterivas was the grandson of one of Alexander the Great’s generals who had taken over power after death of the great conquer. However, despite now being a part of one of many royal Greek dynasties that had sprung up in Persia at the time, Buster had the unfortunate fate of being only the third son. His oldest brother, Alexius was destined for the crown. His second brother, Lycus was Military Adviser. This left Busterivas with a lackluster existence and deep shadows in which he felt the need to push through to find his own glory.

This the reason for this campaign to dominate the city ‘The City Full of Spring’. He would conquer this land and make his own name and his own dynasty. He would finally step out of the shadow of his older brothers and live on his own terms instead of simply being a nameless face in the background of some political engagement.

“Good…almost there…” Buster peered through the spyglass at the city battlements, the guards lazily patrolling across the top, one by one they vanished from view as they were pulled down and immobilized by his strike team that was on the inside. Busterivas wanted to limit the number of casualties as possible. In his opinion what was the point of taking a city if the citizens were torn and bloodied and ready to revolt against a brutal oppressor? Hopefully by disabling the guard and the first alert system, they could take the Baharnak army by surprise and strike swiftly enough that the confrontation would be over by breakfast.

Then the signal was given. It was quiet and silent. There was no other sign for the army to move except with the opening of the city gates. With a wave of his hand the Greek army started to move forward down the dunes like a shadow creeping along the sand. There was no sound of anxious horses or clashing shields, simply a silent force that came washing into the city like storm water after a heavy ran. It wasn’t even a large army, but the element of surprise had given them a strong advantage.

By the time the native forces had time to gather, it was already too late. The palace had been overwhelmed. The elderly Baharnak King had mustered the last of his strength to stand along side of men in the court yard to defend against the invaders and he had fallen as a result. With the cold hard fact that their king was dead, the Persian guards started to loose their courage and and ultimately relented the Greek invaders.

This had all transpired within a mere two hours time.

——————————

The sun had finally risen across the horizon, like a delicate desert rose in hues of gold and red. Its light filtered through the sheer drapery that wisped in front of the windows of the thrown room of his new palace. Buster took a deep breath as he ran his calloused hand through his long blond locks as he looked around at the new area. He had a strange feeling sitting in his chest. It was a mix of excitement over his victory, empathy over those who had to die and be killed for it, and a strange notion of surrealism. It was almost hard for him to believe that this was now his. He had won. He now had his own kingdom and the freedom to do with as he pleased…

…that exactly that was was an entirely different question.

“Thank you.” Buster replied, looking rather thankful. “It really isn’t too far out. We can probably make it there before nightfall I think.” he gave a nod, feeling a little bit in better spirits.

-----

Buster was right. It really hadn’t taken them very long to get to where he wanted to go, the sun was just starting dip lower onto the horizon. He lead his silver-haired companion up along the ridge and to a cliff side that overlooked the wastes with a ruined Midgar in the distance. The area seemed bare but the blond went along the overlook, scanning the ground for something in particular. After a few moments of searching, he spotted something hidden in the dirt. Bending down, he brushed the sand away and picked up the object of his investigation. It was a necklace of some sort, that he unceremoniously slipped over his head and tucked under his shirt.

“Okay we can go now.” He turned and gave Masa a light smile.

Masamune nodded along to what the red headed turk was saying, which makes a lot of sense since the more that Reno can claim they don’t exist, the less he’ll be in trouble. And it goes hand in hand with what Lazard said. Plus the silver found it amusing that as long as the two of them don’t snitch on his drinking trip and all, they can have all the fun they want. They both would need to be back here before their master’s next weekend to avoid any questioning from the two of them. “Understandable Reno.”

Looking over to the blond as he spoke up, giving him an equally excited smile as he then chuckled a bit. “Get what would be essential for taking with us to Wutai and we’ll buy the rest there. Mainly your phone and charger, and wallet just in case.” Now that he started thinking, perhaps he should bring a small bag for a day or two worth of clothes. “Grab what you need and I’ll grab mine, then meet back here as soon as possible.”

This was going to be an interesting trip and one hopefully where he could recover any of his memories as well.

“I’m on it!” Buster pipped before quickly trotting back to his room.

The blond reappeared at their rendezvous a short while later. He wasn’t quite sure what to take but Masa did say that they could buy whatever else they needed while they were in Wutai.

He ended up taking a small bag, he had his phone, wallet and charger as well as a jacket (did it get cold in Wutai...he wasn’t sure but he wasn’t too fond of cold) and he had another change of ‘civilian’ clothes as Zack had called them.

“All ready?” he asked as Masa approached. “I wasn’t sure what to take...so I grabbed all the things you send and then a few other things just in case.

@ancientblxde

Spa Holiday

“I’m sorry buddy but I can’t take you with me.” Zack said apologetically as he stuffed his swim trunks into his travel bag. Buster was sitting on his Master’s bed, his arms folded in front of his large chest and wearing a rather forlorn and upset frown on his face. It was an expression that the blade did not often wear. Zack watched him for a moment, feeling bad. It was as if he had just kicked a golden retriever. “Look...you are going to be fine, I promise. I’m sorry but...I’ve been trying to get shore leave for months and the company isn’t going to pay for you to go too.”

Buster just looked away. His master knew that wasn’t true. He didn’t need to be paid for. He could go in sword form, he didn’t have to eat and he didn’t need a place to sleep.

“Come on...please...don’t be upset.” Zack answered as he zipped up his back. “You have my account code so you can use whatever money you need, after all, some of it is yours anyways. I’ll be back in a week. Just...try to be good okay?” he gave him an apologetic smile and headed out the door.

Buster sat for a long moment, still wearing a frown on his face. Zack wasn’t like Angeal...Zack didn’t fall for Buster’s pouting or his rare fits of displeasure. He supposed that is what he liked about him...even though it did not play in his favor.

He stood and walked out of their quarters and into the common room. It was quite and it made him unease. Buster really didn’t like being alone...he wasn’t accustomed to it. And what if something happened to his Master? What if he didn’t come back either like Angeal? What if he got attacked? What was his master suppose to do without him? Fight with an umbrella?

Now feeling left behind and abandoned, the blond sat down in the middle of the floor, trying to figure out what to do next.

“Before nightfall huh? Then let’s get a move on shall we?”

After that and heading out of the Inn with the innkeeper surprised that they kept their word, Kalm was definitely in a busy state with half of the refugees from Midgar and the other half being sent back to the city to help look for survivors and bring the people food. Masamune was grateful that they excited when they did since if they left any later then nothing would be available. Going from each shop: Item, weapons, defense, and food, he got only what was essential but at least there was a great stock on potions still. He did slip away from Buster a bit as he had managed to nab quite a few apples, granted not dumbapples but a substitute none the less. The silver also had to be careful about people seeing his silver hair though he did make a few excuses saying that he had grown out the silver hair at an early age and he didn’t want to dye it or something but it seemed to have been believable.

Once meeting up with Buster some more, they finally headed to their location that Buster needed to go as he followed the blond’s lead. When they had got to their location, the cliff overlooking a now ruined midgar in the distance, the blade had gotten distracted with the view with the setting sun that when he heard the other speak up, Masamune breathed out as he nodded. “Sounds good. And I guess this will be the last time we see this city, not that I’ll miss it since I already had fives years away, you know?” He breathed out as he then took out an apple before tossing it to the younger weapon.

“Right, lets get going and find that master swordsmith first.”

Buster blinked as he easily caught the apple the other had tossed him. He looked at it for a moment, turning it over in his hand a bit lost in through for a moment. It had been a long time since he had one of these. When was it last...oh yes Cosmo Canyon...

He then smiled to the other, taking a large bite. It was nice and juicy. Not quite had the flavor of a Banora White, but it was still good. Buster never met an apple he didn’t like.

“Thanks...” he replied to the other as he came back to meet up with him. “I really needed this right now.” He glanced back behind him over the ruins of Midgar. “I won’t miss this place either...I really almost think I would rather forget...but lets get going.”

Journey To Banora

Buster woke from an uneasy sleep, the morning sunlight filtering through the shabby drapes in their small room at the local in in Kalm. Letting out a heavy, Buster ran his hand across his face as he laid in the bed, a dull pain radiating in his right knee. The pain had seeped into his dreams, twisting them even more than they already were. He dreamed about the final battle he fought maybe just two days before against his best friend and love Masamune.

Clack! Ting! Clack! Ting! Clack!

Each strike of Masa’s was to the point and keenly focused on a single point. As a blade, Buster wasn’t exactly fast but what he lacked in speed he made up in bruit force and strength. Only he could be consider Masamune’s equal. However, what Masa lacked in strength he made up in speed and agility, making him Buster’s equal if he was left unchecked.

And now it showed. Each precise strike had left Buster chipped and wounded, about a quarter of the way down from his blade tip. In his human form, even though the shift of anatomy wasn’t exact, his translated to an angry looking wound on his knee. It was red, looking almost like a cut that sat under the skin, two small vein like marks spreading out from it.

He was not only chipped...he was cracking.

They were small, only hair line cracks, but those were the worse since they could spread out and multiply if not taken care of. This left an interesting yet very unconformable pain sensation. The blade had been hurt many times before in his human form; he could be stabbed through the chest, cut up and bleeding but a good rest in his sword form fixed him right up. And human pain wasn’t quite a big deal to him. But this...his was a wound on his true form, a wound that would not heal without skilled repair. This was a pain that went deep and he could not escape it. Also it was causing him to leak energy which, while insignificant now, would cause more trouble as time went on.

The sound of the water filling a tub snapped him out of his thoughts and he sat up. Masa wasn’t in his  bed so he must be bathing and getting ready. Buster had already cleaned himself up the night before so it wasn’t necessary for him to do it again (his hair wasn’t as long as Masa’s anyways). Shifting, he grimaced a little at how stiff his leg was when he moved, standing up and feeling only a little zing of pain when he stood. Bandaging it up and putting pressure on it would probably help...if they actually had a first aid kit. Anyways...he and Masa were travailing to Buster’s hometown of Banora to start a new life after the torn world, to hide from the chaos and everything else that was happening after Metorfall. But...now this meant they had to take a detour. There was not a Master Smith in Kalm and now he had a choice to make:

Go to Corel were there might be a Master Smith...

Or go to an area outside of Gongaga where he knew there was a Master Smith but the man might not be there.

And by the way this wound was setting in...they wouldn’t have enough time to check both places since each one was a bit out of their way.

That also meant that he would eventually have to tell Masa and he wasn’t sure how he was going to do that yet.

With the sun rising along the horizon, the light filtered through the window of the jail cell as it made the second prince of Baharnak squint and open his eyes slightly, blinking a small bit since he was in the jail cells? Course, his body reacted faster then his mind and he was about to call out for the guards, telling that this was a mistake for him to be here when he suddenly remembered that oh yeah, his city was sacked last night and less then a few hours as he let out a shuddery breath. Leaning back onto the stones as his clothes, a mixture of both night and battle, provided little comfort against the coldness of the jail cell. Yet he couldn’t help but wrap his arms around his legs since it had been only a few hours and everything had changed……..

———

Masu’ne, the second son and the eldest of the twins between him and Mursu’na, and then their was his elder brother, Sepfir. The crown prince who had gone off to start his own town and also had recently gotten engaged to a princess of a neighboring ally. His twin had gone off to serve since he wanted more action then the simple royal life which to be honest, suited his brother all the better. For Masu’ne, deciding to stay home with his father and help out with the court and other royal duties was more his style and his father didn’t mind. Course that didn’t mean they weren’t aware of what was happening since with the death of Alexander the Great, his father warned him of the power struggle that would be happening in this uncertain time. All the while, the silver himself had hoped that impending war or civil strife never reached there walls…..

Oh how he was so wrong……

It had all worked so well to the greeks advantage as none of them knew of the attacks that were incoming, none of them knew about the spies that had infiltrated them, none of them knew about the traitors that would turn the second that it started. For the silver, it would have been another busy day in court and making sure everything ran smoothly in Baharnak. But again, that would have happened if it weren’t for the sudden surprise attack from inside their walls as no one knew what had been happening until it was. The silver himself knew how to fight since despite being royalty, he needed to learn the art of combat and he was glad he did but it hadn’t been enough. They barely had time to send a falcon out to inform his brother, though whether the bird made it or not, at least the message was at least sent out. However, the second prince had been standing along with his father in the last line of defense but it still wasn’t enough since this was the greeks for damn sakes. But with his father’s age and slowness, he couldn’t compare to the younger, more agile men and with that, he saw his father get cut down.

With his father dead, the guards and whoever else fighting scattered to the wind, Masu’ne had been taken prisoner and placed into the jail cell for the time being.

——————-

And that’s where he still was until he heard movement, before the silver looked up a bit with his violet eyes and watched as the greek soldier’s approach and held up shackles. Honestly, how was he even going to fight back without a sword, so might as well go without a hassle as he sighed deeply. Frowning as he felt the shackles placed around his wrist and connect to the shackle around his neck, granted it had been a little extreme but he was in enemy hands so they didn’t want to take any chances. Following the soldier’s as he stayed quiet, the moment that the silver got to glimpse out at his beloved home, he was heartbroken before turning his sights away as he supposed they were leading him to the throne room to meet up with his would be conqueror. It took a bit of time but when they finally made it, the silver narrowed his eyes slightly at the blond greek who had his back turned to him.

“My lord, we brought the prince up from the dungeons as you requested. What shall you command us to do with him?” Granted he knew enough about the greek language since thanks to his education but turning his head away, he really didn’t want to know as one of the options would be to put him to death as he was after all, competition and technically the rightful heir to this city.

The Greek warrior turned around at the question, to face the captured prince in question. The young man brushed his golden locks out of his face. “I think neck shackles are a little excessive...unless you are afraid that he is going to get away and you won’t be able to handle him.” he chucked lightly at the guards.

Busterivas came over to Masu’ne with a kind smile, though the blood on dirt on his armor gave hint that even behind the smile was someone who was not meant to be trifled with.

“I know no matter what I say, I will still be the enemy to you, an oppressor. But for what it is worth, I am not here out of a thirst for blood or to strip your beautiful land of her resources. I am here because I am the third son in my family. First gets power, second gets the military and the third gets the freedom but then has to carve out his own path and that is what I am doing.  Anyways....”

He turned now, moving to the balcony to overlook the city. “What is done is done, and thankfully with as little blood shed as as possible and I do not plan on spilling more if it can be helped. I will not kill you, Prince, unless you give me reason to. Right now I will have you confined to your quarters...will all sharp objects removed of course...and you will be able to move around the palace as needed with an escort.” he pushed away from the balcony and started back towards the guards and Masu’ne. “The first order of business is to tend to your fallen king and whatever is needed for you and your people to properly morn him. His body has been collected and taken to the royal chambers. I do not know your traditions for tending to he dead...however, we cover the eyes with drachma to pay for the soul’s fair across the river styxs. We have done this for any of your people who have fallen, including your king...”

The blond then signed, running his hand through his blond locks, trying to organize his thoughts further. “I think that is it for anything immediate...I still need to wait for the assessment of the city...wounded...supplies...facilities...some of those will have to wait until the palace is stabilized...” he mumbled, now talking more to himself then to anyone else. “Oh um...” he looked to the guards. “Give the prince whatever he needs to do his job tending to the dead. Bring to me any daggers in his room or...you know stabby things...and he can have free reign in there. Just make sure he has an escort everywhere else.”

Hearing the other as he watched the blond trot back quickly to his room, Masamune went to do the same as he tried to figure out in his head what he would need. Since honestly the last time he had been in Wutai was during the war, then after that was when the last of the resistance needed to be snuffed out which in turned had Genesis and Angeal disappearing. However, the silver knew the weather there ranged from humid hot with a mixture of rain to hot but muggy. Occasionally the temperature dropped for the winter time but other then that, like he told Buster, bring what they need and buy the rest there. Getting a small bag of his own as he placed in at least 2 days worth of clothes that were normal clothing, something both Buster and Rapier had to help him with in the beginning. His phone, his charger, wallet as he checked to see how much gil he had and made sure he had both the credit cards just in case. Granted he wouldn’t dip into his master’s unless absolutely necessary or if his own account suddenly ran out which hopefully wouldn’t be the case.

Along with the clothes, he packed a few swim trunks since thankfully him and his master were about the same height so they would fit nicely. Checking about a few more times since whatever he doesn’t bring, he’ll get in Wutai as he nods before deciding to lock the apartment since really, no one was going to be in the room while they were away. Heading back to the common area as he saw that Buster had gotten a bit before him and nodded at the question. “Ready as I can be.” Hearing what the other had to saw as the elder nodded his head gently, the blade spoke up as well. “I did the same as well. Grabbed what I knew would be essential and few extra. The weather might be different from when we were last there a few years but who knows. The more important detail is that we are back here in this building before our master’s after the week is up.”

Buster nodded, peeking into Masa’s back to compare what the other was bringing compared to what he packed. “Damn...you have more things then I do...maybe I didn’t pack enough...but I guess we can always buy thing there right? But I guess you are right...” he tried to shake off the bit of nervousness before it was then replace with excitement again. “We just go, have fun and we will be back before our Master’s are!” he bounced a little now on his feet. “Lets get up to the helipad before they leave without us.”

“Good since your tougher then anyone else I know.” Chuckling softly since how long has it actually been since they’ve been able to act like friends and not enemies going straight for each others throats? Looking back on the landscape a bit once more before it was no turning back, this would be the last that anyone would remember of them since if they disappeared then that means the world would be able to rest in a theory. But he wouldn’t know until it happened and living his days out in Banora with Buster sounded like a dream until it happened, at least it’s not an impossible dream. As Buster spoke up, Masamune returned his attention to the blond weapon, giving a softer smile that also had a hint of sadness yet was swept away as soon as the core of said apple was dispensed.

“Honestly after all that’s happened, no one had time to think or react properly but now we can. The only other time that we talked was at Nibelheim a few months back and that was it…..” Breathing out more, his voice went softer as he wanted to hug the taller weapon but waited. “Definitely missed you more than anything Buster, you and Rapier……But I’m just glad that we get to be together once more.” Giving a smile and leaving the other to interpret what he said, he then chuckled before he started walking forward as they would need to make up for lost time.

Buster listened as the other spoke starting a long, feeling the weight of the necklace around his neck that he had picked up on the cliff side. “Nibelheim...“ the blond weapon breathed. He paused for a moment, the memories dark and full of feelings he wasn’t quite sure how to interpret. He reached over and took Masa’s hand, holding it tightly and leaning against him, some to take a little weight off his leg and some for comfort. “Nibelheim was a long time ago it feels like...back before then...things were happy and the sun shined....”

▌ ▌ sincerely, Evie Frye

♖ — He knew he was getting to her, this was the first sign of any sort of melting of her icy exterior that he had seen since they had arrived in London. He was sitting sprawled out on his couch, being sure to shoot her a pout whenever he saw her body even begin to turn in his direction. Was it the playfulness that has warmed her up to him? No, it couldn’t be -- he could think of multiple times since they had been there that like conversations had ended with her telling him to be quiet. Honestly, the better question was what had turned her so cold, to begin with?

♖ — Before they had arrived in London, his antics used to amuse her and brighten her day -- they used to work together in the ways that she planned ahead, and he was the one who was ready for anything that went awry. So what had changed? Why had she left him to fight his battles on his own? This was the question that haunted him every sleepless night since they had arrived in the city.

 Sincerely, Evie Frye

♖ — He had been so lost down the dark turns of his thoughts that it took him probably a few more moments then it should have to realize what she had said. ❛ Give a few of the lads some waiter outfits and have them work the room --- it is better to have as many as possible at our backs if something goes south. The way the Templars have been lately -- they will probably have people everywhere. ❜

As the silence drew out, she risked another glance in his direction, wondering if perhaps his attention had drifted they was it was apt to do; she was used to it, of course—he’d been that way since childhood, and it wasn’t likely to change any time soon. Focusing or remaining still for any length of time was impossible for him to do—no matter how serious the subject matter or how dire the situation, his body and mind were prone to fidget, and that was that.

Had she not been looking at him, she might have missed it—the way his lips turned down just a little as sadness flicked across his face. It happened so fast that anyone else would have missed it completely, but she was the one person who could always read his true feelings when no one else could. Though they’d been fighting like cats in a sack since arriving in the city, that didn’t change the prenatural connection between them—it would never dull or fade, no matter how cross they got, or how much cold, tense distance brewed between them. Every single part of her being felt that flicker of sadness—her instincts screaming out, insisting she do whatever it took to make him smile again.

 ( EVIE)

Her eyes flicked away as he spoke—her mind already compiling all the reasons she should rebuke the offer, trying to send them to spill from her tongue. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes for a moment—focusing on the monumental task of stilling her mind as well as her tongue. This wasn’t the time for dismissive comments or terse words—God above knew she’d tossed enough of both his way over the past few weeks.

“I dare say there won’t be nearly as many of the buggers as there were a few weeks ago—you’ve done a good job taking them out.” Her eyes flicked open as she turned to face him, gesture towards the plans she’d been examining so close. “That’s a good idea—for a start, at least. It will be good to have them in place if we need them. The problem is we can’t be three places at once… but I might  have a solution if you’ll swear to me that you’ll really try  to stick with the plan…”

♖ @brassandbrawls

♖ — His eyes went wide for a moment when she spoke again because he dared to say that actually sounded like near praise coming from her --- on both the subject of what he had been doing on his own and his idea of having them place Rooks inside the party. In a flash, he had silently gotten to his feet and appeared directly behind her, just tall enough with her in heels to be able to see over her shoulder at the plans.

♖ — It was then he realized that she said that they couldn’t be in three places at once and all of a sudden he felt the oh too familiar anxiety begin to claw at his chest. He kept his face perfectly even as he made it seem like he was looking over her notes and schematics but the truth was his mind wasn’t taking any of it in. From what he had been told, Starrick was going to be at this party on top of who really knew how many goons -- and she wanted them to work separately?

♖ — With them fighting they hadn’t been working too much together -- which had been nerve-racking on its own, but he had somewhat been relying on the fact she had been doing more recon than anything to tame his fears, but this? What if he couldn't reach her in time? Sure, that bond they seem to share gave them a leg up sometimes, but he wasn’t about to rely on it to keep them both alive.

 ( EVIE)

♖ — He wasn’t sure how long it had been since she spoke, 20 seconds? 20 minutes? Though he did become aware that at some point he had placed a hand on the small of her back. ❛ Depends -- lemme hear it first. ❜

♖— He wasn’t sure what surprised him more, her reaction or the fact he had seemed to have lost so much faith in her -- in them that he hadn’t seen her words for what they had been. Could someone really blame him though? They had said more hateful things to each other in the last few weeks then the rest of their twenty years on this earth. When she collapsed in the chair he moved like he was going to go to her but then stopped himself halfway there -- he was sure she did not need his love and support any longer.

image

♖— Her words made his whole body tense, the aspect that he did not know her anymore broke his heart in more ways then he could ever truly express. Problem was? He did not know her anymore, he had not seen any sign of his Evie in weeks. He missed the girl who had always been glued to his side, the girl he had held during thunderstorms, the girl who had often protected him from their father’s disappointing gaze, the girl who had been his whole world when it came down to it. In the end, he let out a chuckle that sounded painful to his own ears.” Maybe I do not know you anymore.” Lord, even saying those words made it hard for him to breath.” Because the sister I grew up with would have never condemned me to this hell. One where her striking me would have been a breath of fresh air compared to hateful words and disapproving looks.”

The tight band around her chest kept increasing, constricting her like a vice; for one irrational moment, she wondered if it was some sort of malady—the sort George had often teased Father about when he had a fit of temper. Across the room, he shifted—his feet shuffling on the floor as if on the verge of moving closer—it pulled her out of her thoughts, ebbing back the pain for just a moment.

But only for a moment.

Then it redoubled, stronger than before.

A whimper escaped her as she hissed out her pain through clenched teeth—thankful that his mirthless laugh covered the betraying sound of her weakness, even as she was stunned by what he said. Her eyes darted up, glistening with tears, locking on his face—and suddenly, she understood the agony she felt. Not a malady at all, just the breaking of two hearts that had always beat as one.

image

He’s hurting too… just as much as I am.

The need to fix the ever broadening crevasse between them welled up inside her, clawing at her with just as much intensity and demanding as the pain of her aching heart. They couldn’t go on like this… it wasn’t right. It wasn’t supposed to be this way at all—their father would be horrified to see them at each other’s throats. She swallowed hard, nausea clenching her stomach as guilt filled her mouth with an acerbic, sour taste that was bitter on her tongue.

I did this? I brought all of this into being? How could I…

Her eyes fluttered closed as she grappled with her thoughts—the how didn’t matter—not now, at this moment. What mattered was finding a solution, not worrying about the cause. There had to be something they could do—something that she could do to make things right. Something that would mend fences, relieving the heavy burden of stress and strain that was rubbing them both raw.

We could go home… just for a few days. Surely a few days wouldn’t matter…

But it would. Templar reinforcements could arrive at any moment—in all likelihood Starrick had already sent for them to replenish their dwindling numbers. And the artifact—she was so close to finding it. No… Crawley would have to wait at least a little while.

“Patience has never been your strong point, brother,” she said, her voice so soft it was almost a whisper, “but I promise you this… if you can hold out until all this is finished… I won’t rest until we’ll find our way back to what we were.”

♖— When she looked up at him with that heartbroken look in her eyes -- god it nearly killed him. He almost wished for death, knowing he had been the one to cause her that much pain -- that he was the reason for those tears that were threatening to fall. Still, he tried his best to hide his torment because he was afraid how she would react if she saw how much grief was piling down on his soul. Though why did he? It was apparent now their separation was causing her pain too, but the truth was -- he was scared.

image

♖— Evie Frye had been the one person he had trusted completely, who he had thought would forever be by his side. Just now? He felt like she had left him -- maybe not physically but he still felt her absence in his life like an open wound. He had needed her because no matter how complicated their relationship was -- he was mourning their father. He was doing what he could in London, trying to help people and bring it back from borderline destruction -- all while in the back of his mind thinking that it may of not of been his methods but maybe Ethan Frye would have been proud of his progress.

♖— Just everytime he turned around she reminded him that it was a foolish thing to believe and even worse -- making it more and more evident that she too thought him the fool. He had held her while she cried the night their father died, threw the funeral -- and now? She left him alone. How could it be possible for her to want to come back to him? When she spoke, no matter her intent -- her words did not bring much comfort to his aching heart.

♖— “ Until this is finished....” He repeated weakly as he walked over and leaned against the desk, placing his hat behind him. Did she mean that nothing would change until they had defeated Starrick? Or until she had found that bloody relic? He wasn’t sure how much longer his heart could take before it just gave out.” So you want to just go back to chasing relics with Henry in the meantime?” It was impossible for him to hide the acid in his voice because the truth was -- he was feeling replaced.

♖— He was confident the last couple months had been the hardest he had yet to experience, not because of Starrick, not from the loss of their father but from the fact that he had almost lost his sister too. The space that had formed between them during their first few weeks in London had almost completely destroyed their relationship. In the back of his mind, he knew if he had lost that he would have lost himself in the process.

image

♖— When she leaned into his touch, he couldn't hold back the small smile that had formed on his lips. It was those small signs of affection that he had missed, they had been once so common in their relationship that now -- it felt like coming home.

♖— Jacob did his best to ignore the way his cheeks seemed to heat up when she pressed her lips against one. He was thankful that his hood seemed to be keeping him from looking like an idiot schoolboy. At her words he smiled, letting his thumb stroke her cheek before dropping his hand slowly.” I am glad.... because I for one loved who you used to be.” He said in a gentle whisper, trying to keep the emotion from his voice.” We probably should go... before the bobbies come.”

“No, what I want more than anything in the world right now is to hop a train to Crawely and sleep for a bloody week, Jacob!” It came out far louder than she’d intended—almost a shout. “But I can’t! If we leave for even one day we risk losing all the ground we’ve gained. How many reinforcements might slip in while we were gone—do you want to have to start picking them off all over again? They’ll be better prepared this time around—forewarned is forearmed. It will be ten times harder because you’ve got them scared—they know you’re after them—when a hound is cornered its dangerous, remember?”

She realized a moment too late that quoting their father probably wasn’t the best idea; groaning, she rubbed her temples to try and relieve the ache in her head. “Henry has absolutely nothing to do with this, and the fact of the matter is he’s bloody useless in the field. I have no idea how he passed his blooding—he can’t do anything other than research and network.”

 ( EVIE )

It was the first time she’d voiced her unease regarding the man; her feelings for Henry Green were a confusing, muddled mess—one she couldn’t even attempt begin to untangle until she had time take a step back from the situation and examine it properly. That wasn’t likely to happen any time soon—she simply kept shoving it aside, storing it away to be analyzed at a later date.

“I know you don’t think the artifact is important—but it is. I have a gut feeling that if Starrick gets it before we do… it will be bad, Jacob.” She shook her head, risking a glance in his direction—wanting to tell him it was his help she needed, but suspecting he’d respond with rolled eyes and a scoff. “Regardless, the ever growing list of problems is just one more reason we have to finish the mission before we can focus on anything  else. I believe you’re the one who reminded me about the ‘no distractions’ rule, aren’t you?”

Her brow wrinkled, eyes dropping to the floor—the surge of strong emotions and the accompanying argument leaving her more weary than she’d been before;  from the moment they’d set foot in the city, sleep had been elusive and hard to come by—she was nearing the point of outright exhaustion.   “I’m just… I’m so tired, Jacob. I haven’t had a good nights sleep since the night before our blooding. Maybe that’s why I’ve been so cross and ill tempered. I don’t mean to carp at you… really I don’t.”

♖— Her shout actually made him jump, but he quickly recovered. There had been a time he knew Evie better than he knew himself -- could that possibly still be the case? Maybe, maybe if he tried -- if he took a risk he could make some headway. When she continued he barely noticed her quoting their father because in the end -- she sounded like she thought he had made more than a mess, she thought he made a difference. That in itself was enough to give him enough hope for him to give a little.

 ( EVIE )

♖— “ I could have told you that.” He teased in a soft, hoarse tone when she mentioned that Greenie was useless in the field.” Just looking at him I could tell he did not have the stomach for this life.” He murmured as he watched her closely, ignoring the comment about the artifact for the moment - he was only now realizing how tired she truly looked. He had slept a couple nights after he had drunk himself into a stupor -- but most nights he had been out in the streets until the break of dawn. He knew why his nights were restless and when she said that she hadn’t slept well since before they're blooding..... The night before had been their last night in their old room, the one they had slept in for 14 years but even more dramatic was the fact that their time in London had been the first time they had not shared a bed -- well he guessed since their mother's womb.

♖— “ That’s it.” He threw his hands in the air and pulled off his jacket, throwing it on the chair before he got onto her tiny bed -- it really was pathetic. Once he settled himself against the headboard, he beckoned her over.” We can continue this conversation after you get some sleep.” He said as he gave her a look that said he was not going to take no for an answer.” Get some sleep, and we will talk about your bloody relic.” He grumbled.

She’d forgotten the way his smile made her feel.

Not the aggravation it stirred of late, or the frustration that welled up over his easygoing ways and disposition—those negative feelings went hand in hand with London and all that they’d been through in the city. No, what she’d forgotten was the way his smile made her feel before—when it had affected her in an altogether different way entirely.

In Crawley, Jacob’s smile had been like his laugh—bright and infectious. That smile was like a stray sunbeam on a cloudy day—she’d basked in its glow, reveling in the way it could chase even the gloomiest thoughts away. It had filled her with warmth and happiness no matter how sour her mood.

That was what she’d forgotten, but standing there, with him smiling and stroking her cheek… she felt it again. Right in the pit of her stomach—accompanied by the familiar flutter that had disappeared for a while. So strong it made her breath catch in her throat and her cheeks heat just a little. She would have gladly stood there for hours, reveling in the feeling, however, when he spoke, his words reminded her where they were and what they were supposed to be doing; the warm fuzzy feelings vanished in the blink of an eye.

She sighed, closing her eyes for a moment, dreading the thought of going back to the train—frustrated by the loss of the momentary happiness. Desperate to have it back again. A pang of homesickness hit her hard, right in the middle of her chest. She wanted to go home, even if just for a day or two—back to the place where the happiness had always been.

With that thought echoing through her head, she made her decision.

image

“I’m not going back to the train, Jacob. I’m going home, to Crawley.” She gazed down at her boots, half-afraid to meet his eye for fear of seeing reproach at her selfish decision. “Just for a few days—I need to get my head on straight. I can’t do that here in the city—I’ve tried, but to no avail.”

♖— The moment he spoke -- part of him wished he hadn’t because the moment the words left his mouth he felt whatever little bubble they had fashioned themselves burst as real life once again came crashing down on them. Though he knew if he hadn’t they probably would have had to explain themselves to the police -- not to mention allot of running and possibly more killing. He had accepted that he enjoyed killing, but he did have pause when it came to taking the life of an officer.

 ( EVIE )

♖— He had just moved to grappling up the side of the building, knowing if he didn’t soon he wouldn’t be able to walk away from her when she spoke, and he stopped. Had he heard her right? She wanted to go back to Crawley? He turned back and had to fight back another smile at how she seemed to be staring at her boots in shame -- she used to always do that when she had been afraid of a reprimand from their father or that he would be cross with her. He understood why she needed to go back, get in touch with what she seemed to have lost but there were two things he didn't get. Why she expected him to be angry, and why she didn’t expect him to come.

♖— Repeating his earlier gesture, he walked over and lifted her chin to make her meet his eyes once again, amused smile still on his lips.” There you go again -- expecting judgment where there is none.” This time he was the one who shifted his hand to her cheek.” Give me a few hours? I need to put some precautions in place with the lads -- after that, we will go home.”

Her eyes followed him as he moved to the bed—she wondered if she dared give in to the ache of longing inside her. Within the first week of their arrival, she’d figured out the root of her insomnia, understanding why she tossed and turned, restless and uneasy throughout the long night. It wasn’t the noisy clatter of the train moving along the track, or the muted clamor of the city itself that kept her awake and on edge—rather, it was the sounds that were lacking  that disturbed her.

The soft sound of his breathing, disrupted by an occasional snore—the sleepy murmured protests should she rise to answer the call of nature in the night. It was the cold emptiness of the bed without his warmth curled around her, and the pillow that felt lumpy and coarse as opposed to the solid comfort of his shoulder beneath her cheek. It was the absence of the familiar comfort of his scent filling her lungs—the missing fingers that should be combing through her hair as she drifted off to sleep. Every moment of their lives they’d slept curled around each other—from conception right up until the morning they’d arisen and headed to Croydon for their blooding. Sleeping without Jacob beside her felt  unnatural  and  wrong—that was the plain, simple truth.

Countless times she’d risen in the night, her feet carrying her across the compartment with determination, every single part of her prickly and tense, seeking out the comfort it needed—but each time, she’d faltered at the door, her worry over what people would think about the impropriety of the situation superseding her own silent desperation.

 ( EVIE )

Her eyes fluttered closed as she struggled with that worry yet again—there was always an entourage of assorted people on the train, none of whom seemed to grasp the importance of privacy. They came and went as they pleased, never stopping to consider that—for the time being—the train was the only home they had, and as such, a bit of bloody solitude might be nice. Any one of them could stumble in and find them together—the lock on the door was horribly flimsy, easily circumvented with a well placed shoulder or even an insistently jerked wrist. They wouldn’t understand… wouldn’t approve… they’d surely think—

Father approved—shouldn’t that be all that matters? He never minded our cuddling in the slightest—never insisted we move to separate rooms. He encouraged our bonding in every capacity right up until his death.

Slitting her eyelids just a tiny bit, she stole a peek at her twin—the sight of him waiting the way he had so many nights in the past was a siren’s song, completely impossible to resist. Without a word she leaned over, unlacing her boots and kicking them off—slowly removing all the outer layers that were required by the outside world, piling them on the chair before moving across the room. As she stretched out beside him, a relieved sigh escaped her—so deep and long that it seemed almost as though she’d been holding her breath for months, waiting for just this moment.

Her body took over, automatically curling around his into the place where it belonged; head on his shoulder, face fitting perfectly in the curve of his neck, his skin warm against her cheek. She inhaled deeply, letting the smell that was solely his chase away the stink and grime of the city—replacing it with the familiar scent she’d always loved so dearly.

He smells like home.

The thought was fuzzy—already the sleep she’d needed so desperately was dragging her under. After weeks of insomniac frustration and futility, within mere seconds of stretching out next to him, the much needed relied she’d sought had finally been found.

♖— He expected her to argue, not because he was wrong -- just by the look on her face, he realized that he had hit the nail on the proverbial head. However, he knew that his sister was stubborn and he really did doubt that she would give in to his demands without a fight. If she did argue, she would be in for a rude awakening because he was prepared to lift her up and carry her to the bed if need be.

♖— Jacob never took his eyes off his sister as he was convinced he could see the wheels turning in her head -- she was trying to think of every reason why she shouldn’t do as he said. Then she surprised him, she stripped down to the bare minimum and climbed in beside him.

 ( EVIE )

♖— He had almost forgotten what it felt like, wrapping a strong arm around her and slowly listening to her breathing even out -- letting all of her troubles disappear. He knew she had fallen asleep, so it was when he finally took the time to really tell her what he wanted too.” I was used to you tellin’ me off growing up..” He whispered softly.” But it was usually when I really needed it, and it never made me feel like I was a fool.” He pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.” Since we came here... I feel like every time I turn around I am doing something wrong in your eyes. It is just breaking my heart Eves -- I always thought it was going to be the two of us against the world, but lately, it is like you had a change of plans.” He trailed off, his hand reaching up to wipe at his eyes for a moment before he scooted down on the bed, both arms wrapping around her.” I miss you...” He murmured before he too finally had to give in to his exhaustion.

▌ ▌ Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath. - @brassandbrawls

‘Unleashing angry words is never wise—though they may be forgiven, they’re not easily forgotten.’

How many times had Father preached that lesson? The number was countless; it had been one of his preferred methods of hammering home the importance of remaining detached— a logical example of the burden that accompanied detrimental feelings and emotion.

And yet, she’d done just that—she’d let her anger gain the upper hand and it had loosened her tongue at the very moment she should have held it still. Chastising Jacob for ignoring Father’s methods whilst doing the exact same thing she accused him of was nothing less than hypocrisy at its finest.

She paced, her steps never venturing too near him—giving them both ample space to bristle with minimal chance of escalation. What she wanted more than anything was to swallow the words she’d spewed out so thoughtlessly, erasing them from existence, but as always, Father had been right; judging by the expression on her twin’s face, she’d cut him to the core—forgiveness might be quick,  but it would be a very long time before he forgot how she’d wounded him.

Read More Now!

♖— He could hear her heeled boots on the hard floor of the car, she was pacing, that was what she always did when she couldn't figure something out -- when she didn’t know a solution. However, his head was currently under his hands as he tried to pull back his own mess of emotions because deep down -- he didn’t want to yell at her anymore.

image

♖—  Then she brought up Fuckin Greenie, okay no he had been the one who had mentioned him first --- but what the hell did she mean he had nothing to do with this? Following her around with those god damn puppy eyes - he had bloody everything to do with it!” I am being ridiculous? You have spent basically all of your time with him since we got here! Doing your bloody research.” He said as his head snapped up, fire burning behind chocolate brown eyes.” You want to know how I feel about them? I feel like they are probably dangerous and deserve to be tossed in the damn ocean. Also, I am the one making a mess? Where is the key Evie? You know the one you found the directions too in the house of an Assassin -- by using a sight that possibly only a handful if not simply two people have?” He said hoping that she was getting his point. If she hadn’t gone looking for that damn key it was likey Starrick and Lucy would have never been able to get to it.

♖—  “ Also, another thing to keep in mind? No matter how many times you or father gave me those glares -- or how many times I simply couldn’t pay attention. I still would have you read all about them to me whenever you found new information. I tried -- but I guess It wasn’t hard enough. So what I think of them? They should stay fucking gone, I mean that one in the lab nearly killed you! Would I help you find them if you asked? I thought I had proved I was prepared to follow you into hell if need be. I guess I was wrong.” With that his anger cooled for a moment, giving way to depression as he stared in front of him but seeing nothing.” Wouldn’t blame you if you preferred his company... he is more of the bookish type - I never could hold still long enough.” He whispered, his voice sounding defeated.

image

♖—  “ Wait.. what?!” He said as he got to his feet, what the bloody hell had Freddy told her? He depression being pushed back once again to give into his anger.” What plates? I did exactly as Abberline told me! My job was to take out twopenny who was in the midst of robbing the bank and get out -- that is what I did.”He said in a low growl as he took a few steps toward her.” I also had planned to go back and check on the bus situation. Also, that Attaway woman? Had planned to give Starrick a train full of combustion engines. Do you know how much of a leg that would have given him? So I took her out, and I had planned to send some lads to guard the men.” He said in a low whisper as he stared into her eyes -- his own a mixture of anger, betrayal, and heartbreak.” Asked for your help? Would I do this after you made me feel like a fool -- or after you asked for mine?”
