The Ballroom In Pixie Hollow Online During Sports Camp. This Bothers Me. Why Is There A Swimming Pool?

The Ballroom in Pixie Hollow Online during Sports Camp. This bothers me. Why is there a swimming pool? Isn’t it well established that fairies can’t swim because of their wings dragging them down? I mean, I know the movie-verse is a lot less strict in this than the book-verse, but at least it was shown that wet wings were undesirable (GFR, TPF). This is the first time I’ve seen a very clear sign that fairies do swim (at least in the game-verse, which one might argue is also slightly different from the movie-verse).

Or is this another instant of Disney blatantly ignoring Rani?

Let’s talk Pixie Hollow Games: Events

So as you all probably know by now I have an unhealthy obsession with the Pixie Hollow Games, and, well, here are some of my findings.

image

#1: Leapfrogging

Current first event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with all twelve teams. Teams take place on frogs fitted with special connected saddles. The team to cross the finish line first after two full laps wins.

I firmly believe that after Games featured in the television special, a rule was set in place about (accidentally or on purpose) destroying other team’s gear, because honestly, Ro and Chlo shouldn’t even have made it past this event as they were the reason the Healing talents didn’t finish in the first place. I mean, can you imagine what would happen it they wouldn’t add a rule about this? Next Games, everyone is just crashing into each other, hoping to be the only one left with a functioning frog harness, it would be chaos.

The Healing talents were eliminated here.

image

#2: Dragonfly Water-skiing

Current second event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with eleven teams. One team at the time, contestants make their way through a course on a river (Havendish Stream?) while being pulled by a dragonfly. Teams are ranked based on their time, as shown in the PHG trading cards.

image

#3 or #5: Tug-off War

Current third or fifth Pixie Hollow Games event -- the only open slots in the line-up are three, four and five, but as the logo shows two teams competing against each other I’m assuming it needs an even number of teams, which means the only possibilities would be number three or five; it is therefore played with either ten or eight teams. I haven’t been able to find any information about this event.

image

#3, #4 or #5: Honeycomb Hunt

Current third, fourth or fifth event of the Pixie Hollow Games -- since the only open slots in the line-up we have are number three, four and five, it’s likely either of those; therefore played with either ten, nine or eight teams.  I haven’t been able to find any information about this event. However, at Disney Family I did find a mention of a past event called Honeycomb Climb, in which competitors race to collect hidden gems. Perhaps the Honeycomb Hunt is a continuation of that?

image

#3, #4 or #5: Slug Slide

Current third, fourth or fifth event of the Pixie Hollow Games -- since the only open slots in the line-up we have are number three, four and six, it’s likely either of those; therefore played with either ten, nine or eight teams. Through Disney Fairies Hidden Treasures I’ve found out that teams slide slugs over a field covered in multiple objects to reach the finish line.

Considering the lay-out of the field, I assume that one fairy actually does the sliding while their teammate hovers above the field and gives them directions. In Hidden Treasures the objective of the event is to solve the puzzle in as few moves as possible. Since a trained competitor should be able to do that if looking long enough, I personally believe that the team’s time also counts towards their ranking.

Over the course of events #2 through #5, the Animal talents, Music talents, Scout talents and Water talents were eliminated.

image

#6: Twig Sphere

Current sixth event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with seven teams. Teams have to take a woven twig sphere to the centre of the field over an obstacle course, grab a marble from the centre pit, and take it back to where they started, waving a flag by pulling the handle of their start position arch to indicate their finish. One team member is running on top of the sphere, making it move, while the other is hovering inside it, ready to grab the acorn.

The Tinker talents were eliminated here, which I find interesting since Fairy Mary’s PHG trading card states that she has consistently dominated the event since she incorporated clog dancing in it.

image

#7: Mouse Polo

Current seventh event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with six teams. Teams compete against each other, two at the time, trying to score by shooting a pixie-dusted acorn with special sticks through their opponents’ goal while mounted on mice.

At this point there are only six teams left, but I doubt that they would all get to compete against each other. Perhaps every team plays against two or three others and the ranking is based on that?

The Art talents were eliminated here.

image

#8: Teacup Challenge

Current eighth and penultimate event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with five teams. Teams race each other through a tunnel by putting pixie dust on the front of a teacup, which they then have to land on a saucer before sliding down a slime slide and crossing the finish line.

The Light talents were eliminated here.

image

#9: Pixie Cart Derby

Current ninth and final event of the Pixie Hollow Games, played with four teams.  Their ranking throughout the Games determines their start position. The four remaining teams race through a track in single file, with only three chances to pass, each one progressively more difficult: the Jump, the Pond, and Mudslide Mountain.

It always confused me what the big deal was about the three chances to pass, when there is clearly enough room for the Storm team to pass the Garden fairies in the tunnel after Mudslide Mountain. I mean, I get that those three are shortcuts, but if you’re simply faster than the other team, shouldn’t you be able to pass them anywhere?

The Fast-flying talents, Dust-keeping talents and Storm talents were eliminated here, in that order.

Special mentions for known events that didn’t appear in the PHG special:

Flower Power-up (shown in Disney Fairies Hidden Treasures), Four-winged Race (mentioned on the trading cards), Honeycomb Climb (mentioned on Disney Family), Pixie Hollow Underground Tunnel Races (mentioned on Disney Family), Slug Toss (mentioned on the trading cards), Volleybug (mentioned on the trading cards).

Yes I'm Still On This
Yes I'm Still On This

yes I'm still on this

Has anyone ever noticed that the Pixie Hollow Games and Starlight Express are actually pretty similar?

like: athletic event

multiple heats in which most teams get knocked out of the competition

underdog team consists of one very willing and one rather unwilling person

underdog wins because of fighting between the favourites

at least one of the favourites has lightning powers

at least one of the favourites is very muscular (and portrayed as not too bright) and was literally designed after like Grease John Travolta and stuff

just before the final race the underdog gets mocked

the underdog's team consists of one girl whose thing is being pretty

there is a (blonde?) girl who cries a lot

Besides the underdog and the favourites, no competitors really get much attention

Holy shit I might be onto something here

Okay I am suddenly finding this concept art and I’m so intrigued? What’s going on here? Why is Glimmer the one shooting lightning voluntarily, even pushing Rumble aside? What’s with his shocked face?

I need explanations omgg

AAAAAAAHHHHHH LOOOK PEOPLEEEEE

I commissioned my lofe @neacle to draw my beloveds Rumble and Glimmer and LOOK HOW PERFECT THEY TURNED OUT

I am in so much awe like for real look at those wing patterns!!! The shapes!!! The hair!!! They’re so perfect hrnnngggggggggg

They’re pretty much true to their final canon designs, with some inspiration maybe from earlier designs. Neah proposed one major change, which was to invert the colours of Glimmer’s suit so hers is blue over a silver base instead of the other way around, and I love that, it makes them more unique while obviously showing their team connection

I love them so much lofe, best money I ever spent 🥺🖤🖤🖤

Oki so I have finally decided to publish parts of my old Rumble & Glimmer fic, mostly because I’m actually kinda proud of it even though nobody but me gives a damn about them lol

Summary: Glimmer is on her last attempt when attending her third try-out. But when she unexpectedly gets picked for the team, she finds out that the real challenge has only started: dealing with Rumble, the blunt, uncompromising team captain. As the year progresses and the Games approach, she realises that there is more to him than it might seem. Meanwhile, Rumble struggles with having a teammate that's different from all the others.
