Perhaps the unfortunate intern finds this strange little statue in an analysis lab. It's made of this strange, glossy black and blue stone, about the size of an apple, and it's been carved into the shape of a scowling sea serpent, with glowing blue eyes, wickedly jagged fins, and massive sickle-shaped fangs.
The intern picks it up out of curiosity, only to find the stone fangs a little sharper than he expected, and ends up accidentally cutting himself on the edge. It hurts like the devil, like he'd been bitten by a real snake with firey acid in its jaws, but only for a second. The pain fades faster than it started. So he shrugs it off.
The next morning, the intern discovers his jeans fit just a smidge tighter than before.
I like this a lot my fren ✨this is some cash money business right here. I’ve been trying to figure out the artifacts. I’ve been trying to figure out does he transform and then begin to grow more over time. Or does he begin to transform slowly and also begin to put on height.
I’m also trying to decide if he tells any coworkers or senior figures. Or does he just deal with all the changes fearfully and try to figure out what’s happening to himself on his own?
Perhaps it takes a few days before anything significant changes? Like he won't notice anything until one of the other interns makes a comment on his height.
"Wow, hit a growth spurt overnight, huh?" And the intern gets super confused. He stopped growing like a year ago.
So he goes to check and notices he's somehow almost grown a full half-foot taller. He thinks about telling someone, but decides against it, this whole thing is absurd, nobody would believe him.
So I think he'd try to hide it the best he could, playing off the small changes as puberty or something (Miles Morales style), until it reaches a point where he can't really explain anything anymore and stops showing up to work altogether.
Like how the heck can he hide those massive patches of slimy navy-blue skin, which suddenly appeared around both of his hands and forearms like elbow gloves? And for how long can he play off the longer and longer showers without reusing the 'water felt really nice and I lost track of time' excuse?
Besides, I don't think the higher ups are going to ignore the fact that one of their interns has a massive webbed dorsal fin, which had silently been forcing its way from his spine since day four.
I do like that. I imagine his gills coming in and he’s severely dehydrated like he’s getting sick almost. His arms and legs have gotten itchy and breathing feels like inhaling thick soup. I do plan on finding a way in the future for him to adapt in a more amphibious way. I could see him going through the final stages of transformation and feeling like he can’t breathe until he submerged himself in water. The idea of water speeding up his changes has occurred to me. Perhaps in his final desperate attempt for help he sleeplessly goes to the lab trying to stop the transformation. I thought of him beginning to “sweat” more and it causes his clothes to always be covered in this film when he takes them off. But it’s actually a thick layer of mucus forming to make his slime coat. Maybe he can feel the entire change slowly coming closer like his legs feel sore and his bones hurt. He could start needing excessive amounts of food to supply his body’s need for nutrients. Also him tugging at his tightening clothes in desperate attempts to hide the scales and webbed hands ✨ OH and his ears too they become fin like and his eyes also change. Develop tattoo like markings on his body too >:)).
The artifact maybe dissolving or losing its colors more the closer Levi gets to becoming full Leviathan.Levi does grow super quickly but he grows at a steady rate every month when he is a mer. I also thought perhaps once he starts to get a little too big for the ocean research facility he was an intern at the government is called in and take him to a bigger facility hoping to keep tabs on him.
Also, concept, the intern has a stoner coworker who accidentally walks in on him during a transformation milestone.
"I-I can explain!!"
"Dude...."
"I swear, please don't tell anyone, i-"
"Bro this is like some Indiana Jones shit bro that's so fuckin cool."
"I- what?"
[high laughter] "Broooo you got like, fish hands rn, that's wack."
"Y-You won't tell anyone..?"
"Hell yeah I won't, just don't go all 'the shape of water' on me or anything. I don't swing that far left. Shits nasty."
I wheezed very hard reading this.
Fuckin shape of water-
That could bring some nice light comedy into it.
Oh,I was also trying to decide if his name should be actually Leviathan/ Levi or if that should be his nickname/file name.
Cause with time he could start just replying to the name Leviathan instead of his previous birth name
I think his real name wouldn't be so obvious, like Levin or Luke, but over time his friends/co-workers start calling him 'Levi' as a joke, and it sticks. So the further he gets into his transformation, the more he starts to only respond to the names 'Levi' and 'Leviathan'. File name would probably just be Levi.
Also the whole 'statue dissolving' thing is really neat! What if the other scientists notice something that looks like writing on the bottom of it, and they have to race to try and translate it before it fully breaks down into dust? Like it's some weird mix of hieroglyphics and latin or something, so complete translations are incredibly difficult even without a time limit.
And so far they're only been able to make out the word 'Leviathan'?
I could see them trying to find what was causing the deterioration of the artifact. Unsure why it’s suddenly decomposing and they theorize it’s air but maybe it’s “curse” was passed on so there’s no use for it to exist anymore.
I had the idea maybe Levi’s father perhaps works at the same facility and that’s how he gets the internship there in the first place. So his family getting involved with the whole incident makes it more interesting. The whole ever since Levi confronted the statue he’s been closed off from his family acting odd and hostile. He could get in trouble for running up the water bill and raiding the fridge. And Maybe he locks himself in his room until he decides he has to go to the lab and actually get real help.
I’ve been trying to decide his growth rate. Like if he grew 1.5ft a month he’d grow 18ft per year atleast for the first 5-7 years and let’s say he originally starts at 6 ft so at the end of one year he’d be 24ft. After 5 years he’d only be 96 ft about.
I think in terms of growth rate, it'd start out really slow, like a few days before anything super noticable, and its only after like a week or three when the whole thing starts to kick in at maximum speed.
Fall asleep with normal teeth, wake up with fucking xenomorph jaws, minus the extra smaller mouth (unless this leviathan curse comes with Eel traits, and in that case, the extra set of jaws would NOT be considered unrealistic whatsoever).
Go home for the weekend with normal legs, wake up wednesday morning with a broken bed and a massive eel-fish-sea-serpent tail AFTER enduring horrible leg cramps (so bad he can't leave the fuckin room without needing a life alert) for three days straight.
Perfect normal vision? Well shoot man guess what, give that curse a couple sleepless nights and bam, ur eyes are now mostly pupil and computer screens give off as much eyestrain as staring point-blank into the fucking sun.
So I'd say he starts to grow about a foot and a half per week after about.... four weeks preparation. Like a prolonged interphase before things go apeshit. Idk I'm not good with math. Never was my strong suit.
So at the end of the year he’d be 78ft atleast plus his already norm height. So he’d be growing 5ft and a few inches, per month. It’d be a pretty large jump in height, and could be a cause for concern.
I do want him to be transferred and tagged so he can live in the ocean when he eventually needs a bigger space due to his growth, but I did plan maybe after he grows for a while and loses contact with the facility cause his sense of time changes due to his size.
And I’m thinking that he eventually reappears to the ocean facility after getting a bad injury. And he actually beaches and ends up drying off turning into a human Mer hybrid. With some rules of course. Like as long as his slime coat is wet he can be human form,if it dries out he has to go back in the water or he’ll die. Also like if he touches water or is too high humidity he’ll grow back into a mer. He also gains a mostly fish and squid diet so eating processed food isn’t super good for him.
Then I was thinking maybe they run tests and find that Levi hadn’t grown in two years and something was causing a stunt in growth. But then later Leviathan seems like he’s getting sick and is producing a large amount of slime coat than normal and when they run tests they find it’s full of growth hormones. So the two years caught up to him very quickly so he goes through a large growth spurt when he doesn’t want to. He also learns to not speak much due to his size and he’s normally alone. So when he does freak out while big they have to try and calm him down cause his voice is too loud for human ears.
My brain has jumbled ideas lmao
So wait can levi shift between fish snake and human via magic slime suit? If so, thats completely ridiculous and I love it. Like bad and nosy interns get the g r o wth sl i m e s ui t
Although I do have questions about how much the curse changes him. Like when he's a giant snake-fish, can he speak human tongues or does he just make godzilla MUTO noises? Does he make MUTO noises underwater but speak normally outside of it? Does he have learn how to adjust to underwater life? When he gets too big, does he have to live in a tank or does he get shoved into a closed off section of ocean? If the mucus dries out, does he become human again? And if so, does his size change? The last answer wasn't too clear with it :/
I’m thinkin yes he can still speak human tongues, and with the whole fish snake thing I’m thinking he’s a cross of like being an Eel and a Very big shark. Also when he becomes too big for tanks he is put in the ocean,I’d say maybe he lived in a netted off space for a while but then outgrowing that and eventually he starts to go deeper into the ocean to accommodate his growing size. Also yes nice slime coat drying allows him to be human and human size for a while, accidents will happen with spilling water and sudden growth with a very big mer. And yeah he’d need to adjust to living in the ocean and fending for food, cause he’s omnivorous. I plan to give him a desert island he beaches on occasionally for naps and such.
So his slime coat is still something I’m trying to figure out,I guess it’d make more sense for him to be able to survive amphibiously when his slime coat gets thin or dry enough he becomes a “human” again. And then I guess getting it wet would cause his growth back into a big ass mer. I think I’m making sense. I’m at work so I might be a tad jumbled
I like talking with y’all bout Leviathan, helps me get all my brain thoughts on the page. So legit anyone can feel free to send me ideas or ask me fun questions >:)). I like it
Maybe he sort of follows desert amphibian rules, where Levi becomes human in this natural last-ditch survival technique?
Like when Levi's kept away from water for long enough, the coat becomes this thin, surprisingly durable film that seals the remaining moisture inside his body. A side effect from this is, well, reverting back to human form, since smaller bodies conserve water better. And another side effect may or may not be the fact that the dried film makes his skin feel like you're touching a smooth pickle.
The film keeps him normal-sized when he leaves the water, but the second it's rehydrated, it goes from a moisture trap to just regular skin and all that condensed space just explodes out like a snake in a can. He goes back to leviathan size and has to figure everything out from there.
Is that kind of what you meant?
Exactly!,yes that’s the correct way to put it
I found the term “smooth pickle” hysterical btw. But that works,I was thinking about how his scales work and just like how his body adapts to all the new changes. Like you know webbed fingers and seeing in the dark. But I thought perhaps he’s got bioluminescent markings when he lives in the dark parts of the ocean. I think he’d only begin to secrete mass amounts of the slime during his growth spurts kinda like shedding in a way.
I could also see his personality changing over time due to being alone for so long in the ocean. He becomes much more quiet from being alone and also fearing hurting peoples ears and like due to him disappearing for a while and being too big,he hasn’t kept up on technology or science. So perhaps when he becomes small and human like he’s very out of the loop and enchanted by new tech because I’m thinking he becomes a mer in the mid 90s. He’s got bisexual vibes to me so perhaps a small crush on a scientist he meets? But a big thing is he does need to go back in the water eventually, like even though his coat is thin he needs to replenish it anyways?
Also like other mers exist and such but maybe they’re scared of him because he’s much bigger than expected and for a while he could definitely meet with some large whale and shark mers >:)). But perhaps the meds have more knowledge on Leviathan than humans and they kinda understand only from folklore who he is and why he’s like this.
Mind if I try and draw mr levi in his serpent form? Might come out more beastlike since I'm not the best as drawing humanoids, but do I have permission anyways?
Go ahead, just tag me cause I wanna see >:))
Anyone can feel free to draw Levi concepts as long as I’m tagged,I will be posting some art of Leviathan soon.!
I feel like Levi is a pretty chill dude, personality wise.
Like let's say he grew up in the late 90s, listening to ambient and classical music, having maybe a maximum of two or three close friends, not really doing much in terms of ambition. Maybe he was a vaporwave fan. Maybe his school thought he was a drug dealer when in reality, he was really just super, super lazy.
Perhaps the internship was set up by his parents to get him to actually do something besides sit around and work at blockbuster all day. Maybe he thought the statue was just some old trinket the other interns bought at a gift shop. Just a chill fish man who becomes absolutely Not Chill when his routine gets abruptly interrupted by something new and unwanted. He's terrified of the transformation until it's about finished, then he just......accepts it. Really easily. When the initial shock and angst is over he just accepts his new body and goes right back to his old lax self.
Maybe he spends his time in the ocean just......drifting. Acting more like a sunfish than a sea monster. Finding a sunny rock and sitting on for hours until his skin starts to dry. Maybe exploring deeper when the sun gets boring. Poking around shipwrecks and gathering up old trinkets. Playing around with massive whale skeletons like they're toys. Maybe following a pod of whales around out of sheer boredom and curiosity. Perhaps he doesn't wander back to the lab/observatory until it's the late 2000s, following this internal compass because that cursed statue left a sort of natural beacon on the place.
Idk my brain conjured up the image of sea monster Levi jamming out to Music Disc Strad while some other skittery human scientists update his tags.
I could see that
I’d see him finishing up highschool in the 90s. I was thinking that maybe he was a smart kid and had actually gotten a scholarship to go to a college he was looking forward to because he was gonna follow in his dads footsteps of becoming a marine biologist and explorer. So when he becomes unable to attend he’s upset alongside the whole becoming a large mer. Maybe he was a little upset and worked himself too hard in highschool and never got a break. So he has to kinda accept that he’s like this now and he learns to mellow out and not be so tough on himself.
I’m thinking that yeah he explores ship wrecks and maybe even has an underwater cave he lives in for a while that is until he gets too big for it. Also his diet is carnivoress so I could see him going from eating small fish,to larger fish, then sharks and small octopus. But eventually he has to eat larger meals like whale sharks, whales, and colossal squids. It’d only be a lot later he’d have to battle other sea monsters for a meal. The only time he’d eat a human would be an accident, like exposing him to blood while he’s in his tank and almost shark like reacting to the blood.
He prolly resurfaces some years later like when phones and all this technology’s becoming more advanced and he’s just amazed by it. Also yes he loves music.
I was wondering how oil spills and pollution affect him. If he gets big enough plastic will just pass through his gills easily just like small fish caught in his breathing. But he could get sick from oil spills n dumping.

Not the best quality camera, and I said before I'm not good with humanoids, but this is how I imagined Mr Levi. I'm more used to drawing dragons/sea monsters, and it kinda shows ┐(´ー`)┌
It looks nice,Levi looks p cool loving the monster take on it. I’ll prolly try to post his human designs soon, and other size related troubles for him. I also would like to draw his big growth spurt. I could see his eyes seeming super intimidating in human form. And just wanting to find small accidents where someone gets him wet and he begins to grow and revert back to mer.
Also when he first starts to transform I’m thinking the markings on his body in white could start to show up. Like the ones close to his belly could show up first and it’s itchy and won’t come off. And maybe him having to go out and buy bigger clothes because he’s growing and none of his other ones fit. I also gotta work on when Levi gets a crush on another scientist when he resurfaces and makes contact for the first time in a few years. And then the other scientist embarrass the now socially akward mer.
Other scientist, vibing on the beach, enjoying their weekend off work:

Levi over in the water:

After a certain point of time Levi is kinda feral and akward but spending time with other ppl helps him get back to not being a social outcast.
Also Levi’s family getting the news of him resurfacing. And them coming to visit him and just seeing their giant family member who’s completely changed. Then scientist take his measurements and I could see them trying to climb onto his tail and his back and then almost slipping off him.
Also with new tech he learns about iPhones and such and maybe the scientist and team just take lots of videos and pictures of Levi. And then perhaps at one point they even get a phone for him to document how he thinks and what he likes. Then maybe one day they agree to take him into town so he can see how things have changed In time.
Just the idea of his scientist friends trying to take selfies with him while he’s big but he’s so big he dosnt fit into the frame whenever he’s big. I also gotta figure out how tall he is whenever he’s in an amphibious state.
Also his loud voice when he’s big and how it rumbles the facility and hurts everyone’s ears.
I haven’t drawn in a long time but I rlly wanna do stuff with Leviathan. Even if it’s just workin on his design. His design looks generic at the moment and I want to fix that soon. I also wanna draw our boy growing and mutating. Y’all wanna send me sequence ideas and just ideas do itttt. 💖
Levi forgetting his jaw size had grown and smiling at his co-worker, only it looks horrifying bcuz holy heck dude nobody's mouth should be that big what the-
Like I'm imagining he looks normal, until his goes to talk or move his mouth and you see that the corners go back a LOT farther than you thought they did
Bonus points if his teeth look normal around the front where a normal human's mouth would be and get sharper the further back you go
Yesss that’d be great,I feel like maybe when he’s first transforming it’d be little things coming in a bit faster but there’s just the breaking point when he gets bigger and more monster like. Like he goes from being pretty normal and mer like but then he starts to notice his more siren features. Levi just sitting in the tub with his tail partially out and taking a nap and finding when he wakes up the tub feels a bit smaller.
Do you have an OC you based off anyone/yourself?

This is my idiot bug boy is my sona,
Neo(purple with horns or blonde with pink skin) he’s more used to express my garbage sense of romance and my struggle of having two sides fighting with one another.(Blue haired girl belongs to the person who I had said romance struggles with). Then Shane with the white hair stripe is used to express my lack of impulse control and my anger issues lol. And then Cameron is more for my anxiety, family issues, and chronic issues ✨
