Rae X Claire - Tumblr Posts
I cant wait for all the amazing takes from anime fans, once WataOshi starts airing, such as...
"Claire said shes obviously straight and likes Thane, this show is clearly baiting"
"Why are they talking about this gay stuff? THIS IS JUST POLITCAL PROPAGANDA, GET WOKE GO BROKE"
"[character x] isnt lgbt, actually"
AND MORE!
currently reading WataOshi vol. 3 bonus stories for the first time (SPOILERS AHEAD), and i gotta say:
somehow, this books take on queer representation is a perfect blend of "Everyone is Gay" escapist fantasy, and the depiction of how harsh and cruel reality can be for LGBT people
Yes, Claire and Rae get to have a wedding and their own kids, with fully supportive parents/in-laws. And Yes, everyone from thier friend group (except for like, two dudes) ends up being incredibly queer
But also...
the story does not pretend this world is all rainbows and sunshines for LGBT people, just becuase its a yuri romance. The world at large is still either ignorant, or openly hostile towards non-cishet people. The state and the church dont legally recognize Rae & Claire as married, even though everyone who knows them does.
Inori's depiction of LGBT issues manages to simultaneously be realistic, AND incredibly optimistic, and i absolutely love her for it
Wait what should the ship name be for Rae x Claire? We probably shouldn't use Relaire becuz of the damn slime.(i love relaire dont get me wrong)
In my past life, there were a number of LGBTQ activists who had criticized the entertainers using their flamboyant sexuality as a selling point on TV. I think their criticism was likely on point. But here’s what else I think: Without going so far as to say it’s the right or wrong thing to do, some people out there can’t live their lives without making light of their problems. Of course these entertainers were contributing to homophobic stereotypes. And of course I’d prefer it if we could eliminate homophobia altogether. But some queer people living in the real world will also, inevitably, act in ways that highlight the prejudices they experience. Maybe they’ll have other reasons for acting the way they do, but I think that need to lampshade their problems is one of them. Some people can’t live with their burdens without cracking wise about them.

WATCHED EPISODE 3 OF WATAOSHI AND OMG IT INCLUDED THE GAY SCENE AND OMG MISHA- I'M MAKING THAT MY PFP ON DISCORD AND NOONE CAN STOP ME.
Rae 100% watched Revolutionary Girl Utena and makes references to it constantly and noone can understand it. Her fav character was Nanami Kiryuu btw if you even care.

They already referenced Utena in the manga before but seeing it make its way into the OP like this is just perfection because REVOLUTION
