Reverse Racism Does Not Exist - Tumblr Posts

Racism was created by white people, to hold white people to a privilege at the cost of people of colour. Racism is a whole structure and you cannot ignore that.

You and @yourdistantenby ; read this article: “What is ‘reverse racism’ – and what’s wrong with the term?”

And let's read some parts of it too!

“Reverse racism” is an idea that focuses on prejudiced attitudes towards a certain (racialised) group, or unequal personal treatment – namely, discrimination. But it ignores one of racism’s central markers: power.

“Prejudice plus (institutional) power” is the widely accepted basic definition of racism. Or, as two researchers defined it in 1988: “Racism equals power plus prejudice.”

Okay, so we already have the definition for racism and “reverse racism”. “Reverse racism” is the concept of racism against white people. And racism, as we just saw, is power combined with prejudice.

Now, golden rosemaries, answer me: Do people of colour anywhere in this raggedy world hold any power against white people? Because prejudice is possible, yes, but is this prejudice combined with power, by any chance?

[•••] Why ‘reverse racism’ is a myth: [•••] The concept of “reverse racism” – or “anti-white racism” – just doesn’t work, because racism is more than just prejudice. [•••] Prejudice and discrimination are inherently tied to historically rooted and entrenched, institutionalised forms of systemic racism and racial hierarchies, injustices and power imbalance.

I hope that both of you, ratchet Tumblr users, now understand that anti white racism is impossible because we, non white people, don't hold ANY systemic power against y'all, right? Because if you do, HELL YES, FINALLY.

White people may be called a derogatory name with a reference to their whiteness. They may be discriminated against: for example, by an ethnic business owner who prefers to employ someone from their community background.

This may sometimes be unlawful. At other times, it may be a lawful form of “positive action” or “affirmative action”, aimed at reducing historically entrenched, intergenerational and systemic inequalities.

But in all these instances – and regardless of whether it’s lawful or not – the term racism, or “reverse racism”, would not apply.

Did we deny that white people might get discriminated for being white (which, btw, can only occur in ultra specific situations, and I can only think of Japan as an example, because they have a history of facism that hates anyone who isn't Japanese)? NO. But these do not apply as racism. Again, IT DOES NOT APPLY AS RACISM.

“Reverse racism” sometimes reflects a naïve but profound lack of racial literacy. But more often, it’s a defensive backlash against societal reckoning with racial injustices, both past and present.

“Reverse racism” claims are often strategically adopted by right-wing populist political actors and far-right fringe movements, to garner support and recruit new sympathisers and members. This can manifest in political stunts such as the infamous “ok to be white” motion Hanson put to the Australian Senate in 2018, which claimed to condemn alleged “anti-white racism”.

The phrase “it’s OK to be white” had previously been used by white supremacists in the US.

Anti-white racism claims have also been expressed in more explicit, aggressive and extreme ways: as threats of “white genocide”, a core neo-Nazi belief.

Hmmm, what did that person you argued with said about “reverse racism”, @dabihawksluvr ?? Oh yeah: IT'S RACIST RETHORIC!! But did you listen? Fuck no! Now take this double knowledge slap, because it's not only a racist but a nazist belief.

In far-right extremist movements, in Australia and globally, these conspiratorial narratives are commonly used to mobilise – and in some cases, have become crucial drivers for – white supremacy terror attacks, like the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand, which killed 51 people and injured 49.

Do I need to say anything more? Is this paragraph self explanatory for you, or do I need to explain that this concept kills people?

Are you gonna call me a racist for explaining you fucking facts, @yourdistantenby ?? I hope you don't.

Reverse Racism; A much needed article/informative post, because if I see another racially illiterate mofo watering down racism to “just another discrimination, I'm gonna fucking combust.

Main source is The Conversation's article on this topic. Content warning for mentioning of discrimination and neo-nazism.

Ah, yes. Racism, that infamous word. This important word needed to help us understand the social relations that are affected with this element.

It is a very great watershed, indeed. Specially because of one controversial topic: Reverse Racism. But what is reverse racism, after all?

Reverse racism is the idea that racism can happen to white people and that white people can/are affected by racist violence by (normally) non-white people. In other words, a myth.

“But Angelle, ain't racism discrimination based on race? Wouldn't that include discrimination against white people as well?” Great question, little grasshopper, but this definition is actually wrong.

Sure, racism does involve a huge discrimination element, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. The correct definition for racism is Prejudice + Power. More specifically, institutional power. Racism is, at it's core, an institution and an structure, made to protect and put white people at advantage.

And this is basically it. Reverse racism does not exist, and if you believe it does, you are either naïve and racially illiterate, at best, or a whole white supremacist, at worst.

Iiihh, are ya surprised? Well, don't be, because this rethoric of anti-white racism is a racist and a neo-nazi belief. Many white supremacists across the world use phrases like “white lives matter”, “all lives matter” (that one a little bit tricky, because all lives indeed matter; but here's the thing, that is what the anti racist movement is here for! And the women's liberation movement! And the mogai activism! The “all lives matter” does nothing but take the focus away from minorities subtly, so it's real important to pay attention.), “It's ok to be white”, and nanananana, and this kind of shenanigans. Many of them are also dog whistles (see Anti Defamation League's dog whistles glossary for more information).

In conclusion, reverse racism does not exist. It's just another racist rethoric, and y'all need to learn to listen to people of colour when we say something is bullshit. Thank you for coming to my ted talk and have a great day.
