I am once again Richonne trash.

I've been invested in this relationship since season 3 when Michonne arrived at the prison with baby formula. I couldn't get it out of my head that Michonne arriving with Judith's milk just as Rick was finally becoming aware of his daughter, it couldn't be a coincidence. An angel fallen from the sky.

Since that day I've been invested because I was sure that they would end up together despite the "it will never happen" I constantly heard around me. And I've dissected all their exchanges, their looks, their similarities, their differences, their fights, their chemistry over all these years. I thought I knew them by heart.

And yet, this episode showed me a whole new side of them individually and as a couple. I didn't think there were still parts of their personalities that we hadn't seen, I didn't think their love could hurt and heal them so much at the same time..

Through years, pain, destruction, despair, death, they always manage to find each other.

The word soulmate was created for them.

Now, they deserve their happy ending, they deserve to finally be able to rest surrounded by their children. The fight need to be over for them...

You know what, back to the prison, I didn't know that I had chosen to believe in the most beautiful love story. 🥹

I am truly not okay. I love how much care and concern they have taken with showing this love story. From being called a "crack ship" to being canon. I am verklempt.

They are breaking me apart like Legos.

They can't come back here and make the Richonne fandom come alive again. What if they dissapear forever and we can't figure out how to die all over again?

I'm usually just a lurker in the Richonne/TWD fandom, but this past episode of TOWL has me terrified. It ended on much too optimistic of a note. This show has done some cruel things in the past, but surely they wouldn't stoop to killing off these two at the end, right? I know it's the apocalypse, but Judith and RJ deserve to have their mom and dad with them as they grow up. Maybe I'm panicking for nothing, but television hasn't been kind to me in a long time. Lol

All it took was two meet-cutes for Rick to want to put a ring on it. My man was SMITTEN.

Michonne’s got him wrapped around her little finger for eternity. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Two things I love:

1) Rick is still his badass (‘prick’) self which is great.

2) If the theme of rule by secrecy is a knife in his heart, this scene turns it a bit more. The CRM soldiers are so black ops that they’re kind of dead. Pearl acknowledges this, sees Rick struggle, and doesn’t want him to literally die. When Rick fails to escape by choice, Rick can finally understand Pearl. Like her, he chooses to die metaphorically. But Michonne’s appearance effectively ends that, Okafor, and the CRM as he knows it.

Rick Grimes, a real yearner.

These are my last first thoughts on the premier. There were many things where you’re like, wait is this a good thing or a bad thing? Can we trust this person or not? Is Rick in it or is he not? And I love it. You have to go back several times to see the way things stitch together. We’ll see what happens. As for what has happened, Scott Gimple pulled out the “end in the beginning” move from his back of tricks. In my notes I named each ‘scene’ this:

1. “There’s still one good man in the world”: Rick vs Thorne’s Glass

2. The stuff and things we hide. Rick plays the game.

3. “Monsters that kill the monsters—that’ll be over soon.” Okafor turns the walking dead theme on its head.

4. “She’s not gone. They’re not gone. But we are.” Turning a theme on its head again. Letting us know it’s all about…

5. Nationbuilding 101: Secrets. Secrets. Secrets. Rick plays the game to its end.

6. Rick vs Thorne’s Glass 2: Electric Boogaloo

7. (“He’s a good man and we’re from a good place.”) Rick chooses to die metaphorically.

8. A reunion. Writers’ lesson in teasing but avoiding the Romeo and Juliet scenario.
