Rift Malfunction AU

This AU is not a perfect swap. No hermit is swapped with a specific empires person. But, there are small elements. Also, the hermits that didn’t go through the portal (Beef, Mumbo, Wels, Zed, and Xb) are still hermits (they will be covered in a separate post) Empires members also covered in another post).

List of everyone below the cut (It’s a long post):

Grian: Archivist/Archeologist of the Floating Fortress. A strange, ancient kingdom carved into floating rocks. A strange magic that no one understands is holding up the rocks. Grian studies the fortress and the strange, old mechanism within: It’s offline for now.

Perhaps he, or someone else, can get it working again?

Export: Random materials that he collects on his adventures. (In truth, he primarily exports amethyst and elytra) and enchanting books)

Memory: Grian’s memories are messed up. He almost fully believes that he’s just an archelogist. But, the way he looks at the giant machine in the back of the ruins. There’s a chilling sensation that bothers him greatly.

-

Scar: King of Scarlandia/Elven Lands. A huge forest with a giant tree in the center. The houses and shops dangle from the branches and glow in the night.

 Export: Cookies, bows.

Memory: The same Scar as ever. He’s bright, cheery, and just wants to have a good time. Having Jellie (a giant Jellie, mind you) by his side just makes him happier too.

But, he’ll occasionally, he’ll look at his reflection in the mirror and stare. For a brief moment, he’ll see a man in a hard hat. Or, maybe, he’ll see a man in a bomber jacket and sunglasses wielding a bow (he had the exact same bow. Why is it in his hands?).

Then, his reflection will return to normal, and he’ll push all that aside and say that he’s dreaming again.

-

Tango: Lord of the Ice Fortress. A citadel that resides in the snowy wastes. But despite the snow, there is a warmth within the whole keep.

Export: Redstone and Ice

Memory: Tango doesn’t remember much of anything; He’s busy with arming his keep. He thinks that he’s building some sort of game, but he hasn’t figured out the name of it yet.

-

Impulse: Guardsman/Chief of the Dwarven Keep. It shares the same look as Impulse’s S9 base; however, there are similarities to Fwhip’s kingdom too (multiple cave systems linked together, districts, etc).

Export: Emeralds and Gold

Memory: Impulse surprisingly has a decent amount of his memories. But there’s a problem, his memories are of blurred faces and muffled voices. On top of this, his head hurts when he tries to remember.

-

Doc: Lord of Goat Mountain (and the Perimeter?). The kingdom of Goat Mountain is quite secretive. There’s an ancient door that blocks the way inside. Very few members of He-Empires have seen it.

Export: Contraptions, Golden Carrots, Deepslate

Memory: Doc doesn’t remember anything of Hermitcraft and the seasons prior. But, he does find remnants of the past and glitched out parts of his code; These glitches have made him a bit more feral.

-

Pearl: Queen of the Sunlight Fields. A beautiful town with a grand looking town central.

Export: sunflowers, glass (stained and otherwise), organization (not technically an export but shhhh. It’s fine).

Memory: Pearl doesn’t remember much of anything. She just goes with the flow of things.

-

False: Protector of {???}

Export: copper and weaponry (excludes bows)

Memory: False’s memories are incredibly messed up. She knows that she’s meant to be protecting her friends. However, there’s a bad feeling in her gut that something’s wrong.

She just can’t figure out what. It doesn’t help that she can’t remember the name of her empire either.

-

Cub: Head of Concave Labs. A laboratory in the mountains that has some strange, magical properties.

Export: potions (Skulk?)

Memory: Cub can’t remember much. The skulk and crystals in his lab are fogging his brain. He’ll get the odd dream every now and again. But, those are just dreams. Right?

-

Jevin: Emperor of Slime. The kingdom is located deep within the swamplands.

Export: iron, mud (he doesn’t export slime. That’d be weird)

Memory: Jevin is, unfortunately for him, a giant slime creature at the time. While he is an emperor, he’s quite feral and will protect his people. Still, if you’re kind to him, you could be able to talk him free from this state of mind.

Once out of that state of mind, he’s quite unsure of the world around him. His slime is a deep green; however, he recalls it being blue at some point.

-

Keralis: Woodland Wonderland. A giant forest of many different trees: Trees that usually don’t even go together.

Export: wood

Memory: Keralis remembers almost everything. However, he’s incredibly cryptic on what he knows versus what he doesn’t. But when he’s alone, he stands before a giant board with pictures of his friends. Said pictures being both of before and after.

He’ll stare at the board for hours at a time. He misses his friends.

-

Joe: Bard of {???}. No one really knows where Joe’s at. Some say that he’s near Cleo, but no one is certain about this (except Cleo but she ain’t talking)

Export: paper

Memory: Joe’s memories are like an onion. His memories are quite surface level (name, who his friends are, being a bard). But, the more he thinks about everything, the less sense it makes. The more that the blurred faces appear.

It will take a long while to get him to talk though.

-

Cleo: Empress of Stone. A giant collection of ruins wrapped tight in vines. Without Cleo, those who try and navigate the ruins are lost (some can navigate it fine though).

Export: stone and armor stands

Memory: Cleo doesn’t remember much of anything. But, she does look to Joe and sense something familiar about him. Well, besides him being a fellow Empires person; There’s something else to him though.

-

X: King of Skelelands

Export: iron, bones

Memory: X doesn’t remember a thing. He barely even recalls his brother existing. So, he’s just a king upon his throne of bones. Don’t worry though, he’s still as nice as ever.

 He’s just more... skeptical.

(he also doesn’t remember that he’s admin)

-

Ren: King of the Crastle/Doglands. It looks very much like the castle of S9.

Export: wool, pies

Memory: Ren struggles to remember a lot of things. Thankfully, He’s been keeping his notes to help him remember who he is.

Edited lore bit: Ren is found by Pixl (who is still trying to put his memories together). Pixl helps to escort (note: carry) him to Gem’s place in order to help him remember things.

-

Bdubs: King (God) of Moss. Bdubs lives with Ren.

Export: moss

Memory: Bdubs remembers most things. But the longer he is king (God), he begins to forget about Hermitcraft.... The more that he forgets Etho.

He’s been keeping notes about everything. He and Ren have been helping each other to remember.

-

Gem: Dawn

Export: honey

Memory: Gem remembers everything. The others think that she hasn’t been sleeping well and are concerned. But, Gem knows that there has to be some way to fix this mess.

She just needs to find Grumbot and fix the multiverse. It can’t be that hard... Right?

Right?

Rift Malfunction AU 2

The Empires members have had their memories messed up just as much as the hermits. They believe that they are hermits (and vice versa). While the hermits have had their memories shifted around to multiple seasons of Empires, the empires members have only two seasons of hermitcraft

While the hermits, who are almost fully stuck in character, the empires members can briefly break out of their trances (something will always try and bring them back in though) they all also have headaches too) Memory problems and other pains)

(Beef and the others have a weird split) more on that in the final post)

Empires members below cut:

Scott:

Megabase: Giant windmill and flower field.

Memory: Scott can’t remember being a ruler on Empires. He can’t even remember season 1 at all. As he builds his megabase; however, he finds it strange that his eyes aren’t the same color as each other.

But, he is willing to go on an adventure to figure why he can’t remember why his eyes are different and why he can’t remember other things.

-

Katherine:

Megabase: A giant castle that’s pink with dark, eerie sections. (Basically her Empires s2 house) just huge)

Memory: Katherine doesn’t remember much of anything. But, she does get a strange feeling during the night. This feeling tends to form in a headache. So, she tries to avoid going out

-

False (E2!False):

Megabase: A clocktower with many gears, pipes, and a blimp landing platform

Memory: E2!False is similar to HC!False. Her memories are just as messed up. But unlike HC!False, she knows that she’s not meant to be protecting those around her. She’s still highly skeptical and is gearing up for something.

-

Fwhip:

Megabase: Goblands mixed with steampunk. It’s basically a mountain with minecarts within it.

Memory:

Fwhip can’t remember much. He’s just been building, doing redstone, and trying to figure the pain in his head and other places. Everything hurts: his back, his head, his legs. Poor guy can’t catch a break. But, he covers up this pain and tries to be cheery.

But when he’s alone, he’ll actually confide in Gem to help him with his memories. He knows that something’s wrong, and he trusts that his sister can figure it out.

(he’s also a strange cross of goblin and deer) spotchy parts of his skin are green, he’s got antlers, ears, and tail like a deer) he’s not concerned about this though)

(pain is due to his sudden growth spurt back to his normal height)

-

Joey:

Megabase: Pirate ship docked at a massive island.

Memory: Joey doesn’t remember anything. He’s mildly concerned when some of the others question him about his memories.

Is there suppose to be something that he had to remember? He’s not certain. Maybe they just aren’t getting enough sleep?

-

Lizzie:

Megabase: (It’s just her Empires s2 base) The town hall is way bigger though)

Memory: Lizzie can’t remember much. She knows that she can’t let the others know that she’s been turned into a cat. However, she can’t remember why this is.

But, she did tell Joel and Jimmy her little secret.

(everyone has an inkling that something isn’t right)

-

Shubble:

Megabase: (similar to her Empires s2 base) Just more.. magical and parts glow in the night)

Memory:

The fog seems to have followed Shelby. It’s keeping her from her memories and puts her into a daze sometimes. When the sun is out and her mind is clear, she’s trying to figure out what the fog hides from her.

-

Joel:

Megabase: A coliseum with a massive cloud above it. The cloud rumbles with an upcoming storm for the fighters below to fight in.

Memory: Joel’s godlike powers are allowing him parts of his memory. But like Bdubs and Ren, he finds that he’s slowly losing his memories (and his powers? they seem to be failing him).

He’s trying his best to remain calm as he keeps notes on everything. He’s trying to find a way to fix everything. (He both wants to keep his powers and he’s admittedly concerned about the others)

-

Jimmy:

Megabase: Similar to his Empires s2 base (creeper water tower now just for show).

Memory: Jimmy struggles to remember things. He believes that he is a hermit, but there’s a feeling in the back of his mind that he isn’t one.

Jimmy hasn’t brought his fears up to anyone (he’s afraid that Joel is just going to gaslight him). So, he’s just been working on his megabase and trying to ignore his headaches (and the weird purple glow around items in his base) like the deputy star on the wall).

-

Sausage:

Megabase: Same as his Empires s2 base (it just fits him way too perfectly) I don’t want to change it)

Memory:

Sausage is just a normal Sausage. He’s cheery. He’s outgoing. He’s still having those strange reality jumping flashbacks.

Yeah. Yeah he still has those. They seem worse for him now too. In one moment, he was taken to a false version of Hermitcraft with their builds.

In another one, he was taken to the true Hermitcraft s8 (the one about to get crushed by the moon) It’s where he realized that no. They aren’t hermits).

All of the teleporting hurts Sausage mentally and physically. He’s tried talking to the others about it, but nobody that he talked to understands what he means.

(Shelby, Gem, and Pixl have been the most help) he later joins Gem’s adventure to fix the worlds)

-

Oli:

Megabase: What even is a base? Oli hasn’t even drawn up plans nor has he created any sort of blueprints.

 Man’s still in a tent.

Memory: Oli’s mind is being pulled in two separate directions. One believes that he’s a hermit. Meanwhile, the other is believing that he rules an empire. It doesn’t help that he can’t really remember much about himself (the others are a blur as well).

But when he tries to remember, a sharp pain shoots through his body and brain.

-

Pixl:

Megabase: A ruined fortress.

Memory:

At first, Pixl can only recall that he’s building his ruined base and making it look cool. But then, he looks upon parts of the ruins that he doesn’t even recall building.

When Gem snaps him out of his weird magical effect, Pixl collapses as his memories come back to him. While he’s still trying to sort out all of his restored memories, he works to help Gem fix the universe.

Rift Malfunction AU 3

Zedaph:

Memory: Nothing much has changed for Zedaph. Sure when he looks upon a photo of him and Skizzleman there’s two empty spacing. But, he seems pretty content with his inventions and Zedvancements (he can’t remember doing a lot of them though).

-

Xb:

Memory: Xb recognizes that something’s wrong. Within his dreams, he sees worlds that he doesn’t remember. He also sees people that seem to shift in their appearance.

When he tries to remember his dreams, he finds that his brain tries to fog up even more.

Xb has a notebook that he’s been using to jot down what he can remember.

-

Mumbo:

Mumbo’s just cycling :)). He’s having a good time. He’s been disconnected from the worlds for so long that his memory isn’t affected at all!

But when he does return, he eventually notices that the server’s... Unstable?

-

Wels:

Wels’ memory has only changed slightly. He can remember his friends, but parts of his mind seems to be changing to fit the changed new worlds.

When he leaves Hermitcraft after created his card, his memories return to him.

-

Etho:

Memory: While Etho has been off of his own adventure, he has returned to the server multiple times. This has caused him to start forgetting certain things.

Like a certain plant/moss hybrid and creeper/goat hybrid

-

Beef:

Memory: Beef struggles the most out of the non-swapped hermits. He’s made his card game, but the cards seem to change before his eyes.

The bull hybrid’s memory is also fading from him. He’s been using what cards he’s managed to save in order to help him.

The other cards, which look like the empires members (but hermitized), have been pinned up to a bulletin board.

-

(Stress and Iskall are in a similar boat as Mumbo. Neither have been around for long enough to lose their memories/be aware of what’s happened)

So uh, I’m just gonna put this out there for everyone to see (now that the information I wanted to put out is out).

If anyone wants to learn more about Rift Malfunction AU (or any other AUs I got), then feel free to ask away.

While I can’t share everything, I am very willing to ramble about my AUs and such.

Huh. Words.

" Pixl, I don't know if you'll understand what I mean." Gem admitted as she briefly glanced at me. I raised an eyebrow and motioned for her to continue.

" Hmm." Gem tapped her hoof against the floor again with more force this time around, " Do you know about the Rift?" she questioned as she looked up the stairs.

" The Rift?" I repeated as I looked up the stairs as well, " Yeah, I know about the Rift. What about it?"

Shelby was... lost. A heavy fog covered the dark mire as she was making her way back home to her base. While her memories had been foggy as of late, she swore to herself that she was heading the right way.

But as she continued to trudge through the muddy waters, a looming presence rose behind her. And against her better judgement, she turned around.... and screamed.

[Image ID: Image of Shubble/Shelby from Empires SMP. She is facing away from the viewer. Also, she is standing in a foggy Evermore. Looming above her is a giant slime-like monster. /.End ID]

Lore and stuff under cut:

The Evermore is just as dangerous as ever in Rift Malfunction... And while it keeps Shelby trapped within. It seems like she isn’t the only prisoner.

Questions and reblogs of this AU are still very much welcome.

I’ve made a realization that Rift Malfunction has elements of Unwelcomed Guests in it.

There’s a lot of hostilities within both AUs. Quite fun.

Stuff for both AUs coming soon (mainly sketches of Rift Malfunction)

Not Spoiler-y Lore

I’ve dug through the lore bin and found some lore that won’t spoil story beats.

So, the hermits and empires members are all under a spell. A person not under the effect of the spell can witness that the affected’s eyes are a duller/glossier version of their normal eye color.. in most cases.

For the hermits, this spell has forced them into a state where they play a character (one based around their base). Their eyes are way more glossed over, tend to glow, and force them into a more hostile state.

For the empires members, the spell has less of a hold on them. So, their eyes have a bit more color to them. But to counteract this, there are beings/locations/items that are keeping them from fully breaking on their own (in most cases) some are stronger than others/have help).

Update for AU

Might be posting some actual drawings for Arc 1 soon. Mainly little doodles and such.

Also, I’ll have some colored concept art for what everyone looks like too. Technically, I’ve only gotten the hermits (minus a few for... reasons).

I’m hoping to get some of the doodles posted either tomorrow or the day after

(I’m drawing them in bulk and my stupid hands keep shaking when it comes to smaller things) Also, I just like to add a small bit of color)

The Deep Frost Citadel was no longer what Jimmy’s fuzzy memories remembered it to be. It was no longer just a fun game with friends, it was no longer a dungeon crawler with rewards to uncover....

It was prison with one prisoner...

The Artist’s Maze (Rift Malfunction)

There is a world that mimics one that used to exist. Where friends build extravagant bases and sold their collected wares in shops. But now, that world and this mimic are both nearly gone; Being erased and replaced by a world filled with lies and fractured memories.

Once you find yourself there, in this forgotten world, the walls raise and you feel them shift around you to form a maze. It is important to recall this advice:

Stay to the right.

Even when the walls shift around you, even when the floor changes color and the walls resemble your friends, even when eyes stare down at you and laughter echoes around you, and finally when you feel breathing down your neck....

You must, no, you need to remember:

They are not real. None of this is real. This is a prison in a trashcan waiting to be deleted. An error that needs to be fixed before it gets too out of hand.

The walls continue to shift, but now holes are beginning to appear in them. Through the many gaps, you can see something wandering through the halls like you. The being’s footsteps are off. Their body drags against the wall as if they’ve been injured and a red-like substance sticks to the brown, palette board-like walls on the other side.

Luckily, they haven’t seemed to have noticed you yet. You’re unsure if you want to call out to them. A part of you wants to find them. But, the other wants to run as fast as it can to get away.

But you can’t run away now. You need to find him.

You need to find the center of this madhouse and end this nightmare once and for all. You need to save your friend before you lose him forever. And maybe if you save one, you can save them all...

Eventually, you find the center, you find him leaning against a gnarled tree that branches into the purple sky. He’s bleeding from his stomach and he looks like he hasn’t slept for months on end (the crossover hasn’t even lasted for a month) by what you remember, at least).

As you approach, Beef’s eyes open like a computer booting up after restarting. His chest weakly rises and falls with each breath.

 “ B....B....”

He’s trying to say something. You can’t tell what he’s saying, so you move a bit closer.

 “ B-Behind.... you....”

Your ears swivel as a noise comes from behind you. A rumbling snort that’s swiftly followed by a giant shadow that looms over you and Beef.

When you turn around, you are met with a giant bull-like creature. A massive, painted axe is in its hooves as it glares down at you. You recognize that its side is bleeding. But it’s not actually blood:

It’s... paint?

Two options now stand before you:

{ESCAPE}

{PROTECT}

Cold Opening (Rift Malfunction)

The Deep Frost Citadel was no longer what Jimmy’s fuzzy memories remembered it to be. It was no longer just a fun game with friends, and it was no longer a dungeon crawler:

It was a prison with one prisoner, and Jimmy was staging a prison break.

----

“ It’s a death wish.” Fwhip spoke as he stared at his reflection in the mirror. The deer, goblin, and human hybrid was touching at the green-colored splotches of skin on his face.

As Jimmy left the small shack, Fwhip turned towards a map on the table as he touched gingerly at his still growing antlers.

-----

“ You’d either freeze or burn to death...” Scott spoke in a mumble as Jimmy helped him change the bandage going across his eye.

“ What do you mean?” Jimmy questioned quietly as he stopped working while flinching at the mention of freezing. But, it was good that Scott stopped him, he needed to grab the new bandage anyways.

“ Well, we don’t exactly know what kind of magic Tango’s usin’ right?” Scott narrowed his only eye as he gave Jimmy a heavy frown. Jimmy slowly nodded his head as he began to wrap Scott’s eye socket.

Scott’s wings flapped as he flinched away from Jimmy’s returning hand. Jimmy’s feathered ears lowered as he quickly moved his hands away from Scott.

“ S-Sorry! You alright mate?” Jimmy questioned with a tilt of his head. Scott let out a sigh, “ It’s still a bit tender. That fake eye did.. a lot of damage to me.” he mumbled with a small, awkward chuckle.

Jimmy shuddered then chuckled as well. After the chuckling ended, a tired silence filled the air as Jimmy cautiously went back to work.

One false movement could cause Scott pain, and Jimmy didn’t want to harm his friend.

-----

“ Do you want to get skewered again?” Joel questioned with a laugh. A large, fang-filled grin formed on his bearded face.

Jimmy rolled his eyes and turned around. He didn’t have the energy to argue with Joel. The bird hybrid’s wings flapped as he waved a dismissive hand towards Joel and headed for the door.

But as he left, he gingerly touched at the still bandaged wound near his stomach. An icy cold pain radiated from the spot as he walked away from the wolf hybrid.

-----

“ Jimmy, “ Lizzie spoke as she looked directly into his eyes, “ Are you sure that you know what you’re doing?”

Jimmy stared at the cat as his feathered ears twitched. A soft, pained sigh escaped from him as Lizzie changed his bandages. While Lizzie was diligent and gentle with her work, Jimmy couldn’t help but tense up as the clean bandage wrapped around him.

“ I-I’m certain. “ Jimmy eventually mumbled, “ Tango knows me... Even in his changed state...”

A frown formed on Lizzie’s snout; then, She looked down at Jimmy’s bandages, “ Are you sure? What about-”

“ Don’t talk about that...!” Jimmy chirped as he flinched and pain traveled up his side. He forced himself to look down at his wound. A grimace crossed his face as he looked at the icy blue marks that coursed across his abdomen.

Admittedly, It looked better than.... before; however, that’s not saying much. It still ached horribly and only stopped when he laid down.

“ Look, “ Jimmy put his shirt, vest, and bandana back on gingerly, “ I-I know that I can do this. W-We need to start getting the hermits back.”

 “ But-”

“ But nothing, Lizzie! I’ve been stuck in this little cabin for days now!” Jimmy threw up a hand and flinched again. A deep breath escaped from his gritted teeth as he shook his head.

Lizzie’s ears lowered as her tail curled around her. The hybrid messed with her pink hair and ran her claws through it.

Jimmy’s angered expression softened as he sighed,

“ I-I’m sorry for shouting.” Jimmy mumbled as he sat back down; the hybrid curled in on himself as his wings wrapped around him, “ I just want to do something to help the hermits... to help our friends.”

“ It’s fine, Jimmy... I know.” Lizzie nodded her head as she put a paw against the bird hybrid’s shoulder, “ Just call if you need backup, okay?” she smiled as Jimmy nodded his head.

----------------------------------------------

Icicles shot through the ground and nearly pierced through Jimmy’s body. A yelp escaped from Jimmy as he froze in place. Each icicle was worryingly close to a vital organ or a joint.

What made matters worse was that the skinnier and sharper of the icicles were aimed towards his legs and arms. Even if he were to wiggle out, there was a chance he’d lose a limb or more in the process.

“ Well... Well.... Well...” An icy voice hissed from the darkness as a white fog suddenly filled the room. A painful chill went up Jimmy’s spine as his feathers fluffed up. Jimmy wanted to curl his wings around himself, he wanted to warm up; however, he couldn’t risk moving his wings.

But, Jimmy could look to see who was approaching.

Slowly, carefully, Jimmy turned his head and watched as a blue-eyed, fiery being glided into the room. The hybrid’s heart was pounding in his chest as his breathing quickened.

There was no look of familiarity in Tango’s glowing eyes. However, there wasn’t a look of anger in his eyes either.

Was it curiosity? Was it annoyance?

Jimmy didn’t know. Jimmy was afraid to know.

Tango’s hair moved in wisps as he walked, no, glided past Jimmy. Cold winds swept across the canary’s face as frostbite bit at his nose and cheeks. The hybrid’s own breaths were whiter than the fog as the taller hybrid slinked around him like a cat hunting prey.

Then, Tango stopped and moved his face closer to Jimmy’s own. A snarl rumbled from the icy lion’s throat as he opened his mouth,

“ Now tell me, little canary,“ Tango hissed as an icicle grew closer to Jimmy’s throat.

“ How did you find my citadel?”
