Rose Of Versailles - Tumblr Posts
Takarazuka’s Elisabeth is like if somebody took 1984 and made it all about how Winston and Julia fell in love like it was all a fairytale.
Takarazuka’s theme song for Rose of Versailles is so cheap and cheesy, it overshadows the subtle poetics of Ikeda Riyoko’s words. (Also the ending of RoV’s anime slaps harder than any song the Revue can write)
The only good Takarazuka show I’ve seen so far is El Halcon because Aoike Yasuko is such a good action writer that even when her material is heavily watered down and compressed, it’s still, at the very least, fun to watch. Heard Haikara-san ga Tooru is good too but haven’t tried.
ive gotten into takarazuka when i found out they did elisabeth! do you have a fav takarazuka tod perhaps? i think ayaki nao was a quite seductive tod (though takarazuka ofc have their own interpretation of tod!)
I’m going to be brutally honest here - I do not care for the Takarazuka productions of Elisabeth. Part of it is getting to know some of the fan culture surrounding the Takarazuka productions in general, and their fetishistic nature towards the actors, but most of it is that I just do not vibe with the direction it takes. I don’t like how it romanticizes the story, I don’t like how Elisabeth’s role is reduced, I don’t like how spineless they make her. I absolutely know that this is how Takarazuka does this and that many fans enjoy it, and that’s fine! There’s room for lots of interpretations of the story, and I am fine with this one’s existence (plus it releases lots of proshots and has gorgeous costumes). But it is really not my thing.
All of which is a really long way of saying that I do not have a favorite Takarazuka Tod, because I do not watch it enough to have one, and when I do, I focus almost entirely on Elisabeth. Because if they are going to reduce Elisabeth to a secondary role in her own musical, then I, spiteful contrarian that I am, will focus on her and her alone, just to show them. So there.
(Though I guess I did like Asumi Rio as Tod, but I think that’s less a sign of her quality and more because I watch the 2014 cast the most, because I find Ranno Hanna to be a cutie patoot.)

Fr nobody cares about Fersen good 💀
if you ever feel stupid or tasteless, remember that Oscar had these two:

but fell in this bitch:

We stan a queen like Oscar
My favorite thing about Oscar is that she’s a gnc bisexual lady with a sword in 18th century France written by a Japanese woman in the 1970s who got involved with the Communist Party of Japan but my SECOND favorite thing about Oscar is that she’s a class traitor to the bourgeois and is appropriately utterly horrified and ashamed of her own privilege and ignorance once she realizes that life for the peasantry sucks shit actually. And then she gradually gets more radicalized until she resigns from the royal guard and turns her back on almost everyone she ever knew and loved in favor of storming the dang Bastille.
My third favorite thing about Oscar is when she kisses ladies on the mouth, up to and including Marie Antoinette.

Since the tv has been airing Rose Of Versailles again, I made this for the most prominent icon of my childhood :)

Doodles I made inspired by today’s “Rose Of Versailles” episodes.
I’ll post soon the finished versions.
You know, I realize now I've been sub-baited with André Grandier. Well, in the modern sense of the word and my own expectations, cause I wasn't expecting the author to actually intend to bait me on that.
It's just... from the promotional art and earlier scenes I read, I expected this sensitive guy who would worship Oscar, be her right hand, the shadow to her light, as described.
But instead we get this possessive territorial dude who tries to force her into stuff and to conform to him, or social norms.
See offenses: thought she looked better in a dress, kissed her when she was unconscious, nearly raped her, and then nearly killed her.
Man, I wanted this. Where was this?

Like... I guess I knew back in the 70s women liked men who took initiative (in a generous sense of the word) as a romantic trope, but. Oscar's entire narrative seems to indicate she would be the one taking initiative and not settle for a man who tries to decide shit for her?? Which is why her relationship with André suffers a lot.
Like, I understand the intention was for her to love a commoner as an equal, as a parallel for her to leave the nobles and live for the Revolution. But to go about André being an equal by the means of him forcing her to conform and bend to him still sounds counterproductive to Oscar's narrative. I'm sure there could've been better tropes to use instead?
And no matter how many beautiful pages show Oscar crying out her love for him, it ended up making them either a toxic couple or a badly-written one within the story. Or both.
I've been baited and that's why André sucks to me.

Would you still love someone like me?
ill never stop crying over this 9 foot emo lol
