Like imagine these two dorks are meeting up and JJ has these little flowers that make Reader so gosh darn happy - only to pretty much SHOVE a huge ass bouquet in his face and he will literally gloat about it for days on end to John B and Pope ‘cause they don’t have girl who give flowers to them
He will take a video of himself w/ the flowers, and post literally tons of pictures with them. Fight me on this.

THE GIRL IN THE SOCKS ON THE ROOF - JJ Maybank

Summary: save my life and i'll save yours, pretty boy. In the coastal paradise of Outer Banks, Y/N teeters on the edge of the rooftop in socks, drowning in despair, and there's Papa JJ appearing in her life like an angel.
"'Cause it's too cold for you here and now, so let me hold both your hands in the holes of my sweater."
Warning: female!reader, triggering themes (mental health struggles, including references to self-harm, depression, or suicidal thoughts and acts), alcohol, drug, weed, swearing, etc., this will angsty as shit and fluffy, do not read if you don't want to! you have been warned, let me know what you think!
☆
JJ has no idea that he had saved a life.
well, he never believed such a thing, never believed that he was this special to think twice that the person he saved will do anything to pay him back.
And that person was Y/N, the girl in socks on the roof of a building, a tall one.
It was a summer night, the night of the Fourth of July, an hour away from the fireworks starting and here was the handsome blond walking out of the store with few beers and snacks with Sarah Cameron by his side.
Yelling echoed around the neighborhood, and the two blondes turned towards the sound, a man running after a very gorgeous girl in shorts, a top and some socks.
No flipflops, or sandals, just black socks, running down the streets and busy looking behind to notice JJ and Sarah standing there watching in pure confusion until she bumped at him.
"YOU DIRTY LITTLE BITCH COME BACK HERE!" The man yelled and Y/N picked up the bags of snacks he held, apologizing and handing them to him in panic.
Eyes wide with tears covering them, wild hair like she was electrocuted, chest going up and down rapidly, she met Sarah's eyes and shot her the most heartbreaking smile.
"I am so sorry," she turned to JJ, meeting his pretty eyes that watched hers in concern, god she was beautiful, he has never seen someone this gorgeous even in the state of panic.
Before he could even open his mouth to respond, she continued running, she was very fast, legs moving in a speed of light, everytime her feet landed on the ground, pain rushed through her veins.
Adrenaline pumping, the summer night breeze slapping her cheeks left and right, she could feel Sarah Cameron's eyes on hers and the handsome boy whom she bumped into.
As they climbed the Twinkie, JJ's mind not once left the girl who disappeared five minutes ago, he knew who she was, well... he saw her in a few parties, standing there with a drink in hand talking to one pogue mostly.
"I feel like I saw her before," he whispered turning to Sarah who watched in slight worry as the man ran past them with so much hatred in his eyes, a murderous look that scared her.
"That's Y/N, sweetest Kook with apparently a rough life," she replied wincing as another curse left Mister L/N's lips, a frown on her face, JJ's hand was on the steering wheel, feeling a sudden protectiveness towards the girl who bumped into him.
It looked like she had a rough life, especially when she was running in only socks with a man chasing behind her, his eyebrows almost touched and he watched the man in disgust.
He reminded him of his dad... but oh he didn't know that he was basically his dad's twin brother.
"God I hope she doesn't get caught by Mister L/N," she whispered in worry, guilt eating her alive and once JJ started to drive, he looked around in hope to find her.
Nothing.
"It's the fourth of July..." spoke Sarah again, and his mind went back to Y/N's eyes... brimmed with tears reminded him so much of his, he really wanted to know the reason why she was in that state.
And the second time he saw her was on the roof of a building, John B has sent him again to buy fireworks to light on the beach, but then something caught his eyes.
Someone.
The moonlight shone down on her, black shorts, white top, hair flying everywhere thanks to the wind, black socks, she stood on the edge of the roof staring ahead, the moonlight kissing her skin and making hear tear glisten like diamonds, what the fuck.
Without thinking twice, he sprinted up the stairs, ignoring that it was a building with people living in it, rich people that would knsult him idf they saw him in, he raced up the stairs, boots clapping against the ground as he grabbed the railing for support trying not to trip
He never ran so fast, worry ate him alive as he ran in the speed of light.
Opening the door to the roof with all his force he rushed to the girl just as her feet lifted and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her back to his chest.
She gasped in surprise, her tear-streaked face turning towards him. For a moment, time stood still as their eyes locked. JJ could feel the rapid thumping of her heart against his chest, matching the adrenaline rushing through his own veins.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," he whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of concern and relief, he turned her around and watched as she looked into his eyes, body shaking with a combination of fear and exhaustion.
"You don't have to do this. You're not alone."
She studier him with glossy eyes, watched as he pushed away her hair from her wet cheeks and cupped her cheeks as if he knew her for years.
At his words she collapsed in his arms, clinging to him tightly, as if holding on for dear life, he wrapped his arms around her as tightly and ran his hand down her hair.
He wasn't used to giving hugs, felt awkward when someone gave him one ir he did, but he hugged her, the weight of her struggles and pain was palpable, and in that moment, JJ understood that there was so much more to her story than what he had glimpsed before.
"Grab my hand," she did as told, hand trembling as he gently guided her away from the edge, leading her to a safer spot on the rooftop.
She slipped down the wall, wrapping her arms around herself tightly ss the breeze got rough, then JJ sat beside her, forgetting his task and what he was supposed to buy.
They sat down together, the distant sounds of fireworks starting to fill the night sky, but not the Outer Banks yet, in 10 minutes, JJ's heart raced as he tried to find the right words to say, wanting to offer comfort and support to this girl he barely knew.
He turned to her, taking off his red hat and ruffling his blond hair, "sup, I'm JJ," he finally said, his voice soft but steady and she chuckled at his words, "And you...you don't have to face this alone. Whatever it is, I'm here for you."
Y/N looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of gratitude, she sniffled, wiping away the tears that continued to stream down her cheeks.
"Sup, I'm Y/N..." she whispered, her voice barely audible as she pulled her knees closer to her body, staying silent for a minute gnawing at her lower lip, she spoke again, "Thank you, for saving my life and...being there when no one else was."
JJ's heart ached at her words. He couldn't fathom how someone as beautiful and kind-hearted as Y/N could feel so alone and unloved.
He pulled out the lighter and played with it for a few seconds, "I don't know what you've been through, but I want you to know that Papa J, is here for you, no matter what. You deserve to be surrounded by people who care about you."
Y/N's eyes welled up with tears once again, but this time they were tears of relief mixed with a glimmer of hope. She had never expected a chance encounter with JJ to lead to this moment of genuine connection and understanding.
But she blinked away the tears and smiled at him brightly, sitting by his side, her shoulder pressed to his as they stared ahead, "I'll make sure to keep that in mind, Thank you, Papa J," a smile that showed his dimples appeared and she felt herself go warm.
"You know what will make you feel better?" He suddenly spoke standing up and slapping his butt to get rid of the dirt, she looked up at him in confusion, wondering what will make her feel better.
"What?"
JJ smiled down at her brightly like a Cheshire cat, "light some fireworks on the beach, smoke weed, drink beers," he suggested putting his hand in front if her to take.
She stared at his hands for a hot second, glancing at the edge of the roof that she almost fell from and then back at him, she never drank alcohol or even had a puff of smoke, breaking the rules sounded like a good idea at the moment.
"why not." She put her hand on top of his watching him hold it carefully, gently, his rings cold and sending a shiver down her spine.
He lifted her and glanced down at the socks, "damn don't your feet hurt?" She laughed softly and followed his eyes down, "they are hurting now, like a bitch." He nodded in response and they walked towards the stairs, hand still in hers.
Her eyes went back to the edge of the roof again, but JJ blocked her path and pushed the door for her, "after you, be careful not to slip, I almost did with my damn boots." She rolled her eyes but grinned at him.
"You're the clumsy one." She replied making him roll his eyes and gasp dramatically, pretending to faint while doing so, it made her laugh.
She had a gorgeous laugh, contagious that it made him laugh as well, he wondered why a girl like her would even think of trying to leave this world.
He wanted to ask, but no. This wasn't the right moment.
☆☆☆
He handed her his scandals (which led to her saying that his feet were bigger than her face) and called John B to apologize and explain what happened while she was looking for slushy flavors.
Then they went to the beach, watched the fireworks, drank beers, and shared weed, one after the other, placing her lips right where his were, he taught her basic surf tricks, and he did everything to make her forget about the troubles filling her mind.
And it worked.
They laughed, and they talked for hours, sharing stories, dreams, and even their deepest fears, water was reaching her thighs as she watched the colorful explosions in the night sky.
She was high and watching the sky have multicolor stars with so much awe, her eyes glossy and her hand waving underwater, and JJ admired.
Every single feature, the way she watched the fireworks and stood by his side, hair wild and crazy, speaking her mind in a way he never thought anyone would do so, wearing only her bikini top and shorts.
How can a person high till cloud 9 speak like that? He thought, "I mean, that's the thing, Lana Del Rey once said..." She put her finger up, swallowing, "Live fast, die young, be wild, and have fun. That’s my motto, but my dad did everything to not give me my freedom, everything, and believe it or not this is the first time I felt happy."
JJ knew what it was like, it was the same for him, his dad was a fucking asshole and everyone knew it, they all blamed that man's crime on him, and he hated that she had the same problems.
"I think we need to get out, you're way too high baby," he spoke with a laugh grabbing her waist and starting to make his way out of the water.
"oh come on I'm trying to be emotional here! Wait- did you just call me baby?" she asked grabbing his wrist, slurring over her words.
JJ chuckled, his heart warming at Y/N's playful reaction. He had been so caught up in the moment that he had let slip a term of endearment without even realizing it.
But now, with her intoxicated state bringing out her candidness, he found himself unable to hide his smile.
"Yeah, I did call you baby," he replied, his voice teasing, "It just slipped out. But you know what? I think it suits you."
Y/N's eyes widened, a mix of surprise and amusement crossing her face. "Oh really? And why is that?" he couldn't respond instead raised his eyebrow at her, showing his cute dimples that made her smile even more brightly.
"I will not tell you." and next thing he knew she pulled him deeper in the water and pulled him along, pushing him with her in, his hand wrapped around her waist to not lose her and water surrounded them.
them swimming around one another, the light coming from the moon and fireworks the only thing brightening their surroundings, all euphoric. As their eyes locked underwater, JJ felt a surge of anticipation, the world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them suspended in the watery depths.
They swam closer and closer, her hair moving around her like a mermaid, he watched as the multicolor lights flashing kissed her skin, eyes twinkling like pearls.
As they swam closer, their bodies gracefully gliding through the liquid medium, time seemed to slow down. Every movement, every touch, was heightened by the magical atmosphere surrounding them. The water embraced them, caressing their skin and amplifying the intensity of their connection.
Y/N has never seen such a beautiful person like JJ, his blonde hair shimmered like strands of liquid gold, framing his face in a way that accentuated his angelic features, ocean eyes watching her in a way no one did, it made her blood run hot even underwater, his muscles twitching as he moved.
God, he was beautiful....
He was angel. That's it, he was an angel sent from heaven to save her from the roof and make her life worth living for.
Their faces drew closer, the space between them narrowing with each passing second, but just as her lips were about to brush against his, doubt crept into JJ's mind.
He hesitated, like he always did, his thoughts momentarily overpowering the weird feelings he felt in that moment. He withdrew slightly, his hand releasing its grip on her waist.
His wide eyes met hers, and for a moment, the silence between them was deafening, she hesitated as well, confused as to why he did in the first place, but never going to question it.
Maybe he didn't feel comfortable, she thought, JJ's mind raced, questioning the wisdom of his decision, too risky, she's high and probably won't remember by tomorrow- JJ calm the fuck down.
He hated himself for hesitating but he had no choice, she grabbed his shirt and swam back up with him to the surface, JJ followed, cursing himself for letting his doubts cloud the moment, for allowing fear to guide his actions.
But deep down, he knew he couldn't ignore the nagging thoughts that had caused him to retreat.
Y/N, for her part, seemed to accept the situation without questioning it. Her silence spoke volumes, leaving JJ with a mix of relief and regret, as they resurfaced, the world above the water greeted them with its own set of distractions.
The sounds of laughter and music filled the air, the festivities of the night continuing as if nothing had happened below the surface. Y/N's wide eyes met his again, searching for answers that he couldn't provide.
JJ gave her a weak smile and her, perceptive as ever, returned his smile with a gentle nod, and just before she started to swim back to land, he spoke with a high pitched voice to not make her go.
"me and my friend want to become Kooks, looking for gold, anything that will make us rich, when this world will become gentle with us, I'm gonna get a new board. I'm gonna deck it out, and I'm gonna go on a surf trip. Ride, whatever the waves take you, you know?" he said watching her stop and turn back around.
A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she listened to his plans, his determination shining through despite the uncertainties of their current moment.
Dreams do save lives after all.
"Do you have your passport, pretty boy?" she asked with a laugh at his determination, it made his hammering heart slow down, and relief wash over him as he thought she was mad at him at first.
"Hell no, I don't got a passport, Kookiest thing ever." he replied making her laugh even harder, throwing her head back and staring at the sky, her laughter echoing through the water and bringing a sense of lightheartedness to their conversation.
“You definitely should do that, that’s a real dream, surf trip, I believe in you,” she said with a chuckle, starting to swim towards the rock where they kept their stuff hidden just in case someone might steal them, gesturing him to come along.
“you’re saying that like I will do it alone,” he said lifting himself up and out of the water, wrapping the towel he had in the Twinkie around her and grabbing his stuff, “well you will do it with your friends, not alone,” she replied wrapping the towel tighter around her, putting on her sandals.
JJ grabbed their stuff and walked out of the rock, offering his hand so she wouldn’t slip, “and you,” he replied making her smile and glance back at him, "me? So I'm a Pogue now?" she asked teasingly ruffling her hair with the towel.
"Well, I am your friend, you like adventure, saving animals and the sea, you don't hate us, I think you are born a Pogue, besides we could really use your help to become rich," he said shrugging while opening the door to the van.
washing her feet to get rid of the sand she climbed in the passenger seat, towel still tight around her, a mischievous glint in her eyes, "Well, if being a Pogue means embarking on thrilling escapades with you and running from cops, count me in," she said, her voice filled with excitement.
"deal."
and she did become one, helped them find the gold by stealing maps from her father's office, and became a sister to almost everyone, Kiara didn't trust her which was fine, but she didn't hate her either.
Besides she understood what it was like, JJ had stayed by her side for the rest of the time, she was on his, she saved him in many ways, the jacuzzi night, she held him, they ran from cops, she stole for him, for them, got in trouble as well and she was loyal.
That way she cried with him that night when she found out what Luke did to him was the same thing her father did to her, cried with him, and held him at the same time, they were both broken after all.
The night she tried to end her life was the night she met JJ Maybank and he saved her in every way a person can be saved, she stayed the night in John B's house, on the couch, her head to JJ's.
everyone was already asleep, both of them damp after their night swim.
"I see you," he suddenly whispered, the light buzzing from god knows where filling the silence along with the crickets, for a second he thought she had fallen asleep since no answer came from her, "and?" she asked a hot minute, tilting her to the side.
His scent filled her nostrils and made her tensed shoulders relax instantly, "you wouldn't have jumped." he replied staring at the ceiling, his blonde hair falling over his eyes.
JJ's whispered words hung in the air, the weight of their meaning sinking in. Y/N's heart skipped a beat as she processed his statement, his words cut through the darkness, reaching deep into her soul, and touching upon a truth that she had kept hidden for so long.
"God knows what would've happened if you weren't there," she whispered staring at the ceiling with tears blurring her vision, she played with the shell charm of his bracelet.
"but I'm glad it was you," her voice was barely above a whisper, but he heard it, and when he spoke his voice was as soft as a feather, "I'm glad too," he had said and then she felt her blood run hot, cheeks turning rosy.
and with that, they both fell asleep, her finger hooked around his bracelet and his finger drew patterns, their faces so close at the edge of the couch, her head to the right and his to the left, noses almost bumping.
Their breaths synchronized, her scent mixing with his creating the most intoxicating perfume that ever existed, peace washing over them as they slept close to one another, safe from any trouble.
☆☆☆
They fell in love, and they hesitated to tell one another, like the night they hesitated to kiss, there was a palpable tension that's for sure, even the blind could sense it.
But the day she realized that one day she will stop hesitating was in the boat when he fell off it.
"Clear."
He whispered and Y/N walked away with JJ following behind her, a man suddenly appeared in front of her making her call out for the pretty blonde, "JJ..." "of course, there's more of you..." he said pulling out a machete, "get down on your knees," he ordered and JJ grabbed the girl by the waist pulling her back as soon as the man stepped towards her. "Yeah, that's not gonna happen." with that, he charged at the girl who ducked immediately, JJ punched the man and pinned his arm, and Y/N kicked him right in the crotch before with the door to the emergency power locker supply.
Y/N ran towards the railing calling out for the Routledge boy, "JOHN B!" she yelled not even noticing the man approaching her from behind, JJ's eyes widened in horror as he called out for the girl.
"Y/N!" she turned around, eyes on the weapon that went flying towards her, she moved away but it sliced her arm making her wince in pain, "Y/N!" he called again in worry.
Eberhimi lifted his machete and JJ caught his wrist, grabbing him from behind, and elbowing the younger boy in the stomach, he swung at Y/N who caught his wrist and grabbed her collar, her head went to the side and the end of the weapon went right to JJ.
Her eyes widened in terror as JJ fell off the boat into the water, she bit Eberhimi's wrist before grabbing the hand that held the machete, twisting it, and she slammed his head against the glass before the wall.
And with that, he fell to the ground unconscious, Y/N ran towards the edge and called out for JJ whose face was on the water, "JJ!" she called loud enough for Outer Banks to hear.
Y/N's heart pounded in her chest as she watched the boy, she climbed the edge and her demons immediately consumed her, panic gripped her as memories of her own pain and struggles flooded her mind, the night she was standing on the edge.
the same feeling she felt during the fourth of July threatening to overwhelm her, she didn't do it, yet here she is standing on the edge once again.
But she knew she couldn't let fear paralyze her. She had to act. She will step off the edge, god she hoped the water wouldn't turn to solid rocks and kill her immediately, as a payback for not doing it that night
Either you face it or JJ dies. she thought.
With her heart pounding and her mind filled with a mixture of terror and determination, Y/N took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly before stepping off the edge.
The air rushed past her, and for a split second, she felt weightless, suspended between the fear of the unknown and the hope for a different outcome.
As she descended towards the water, her mind raced with thoughts of what awaited her below. Would the water be a lifeline, cradling her safely in its embrace? Or would it become a cruel reminder, punishing her for the choice she didn't make before?
It was too deep, way too deep, she wasn't that good at swimming either, her feet touched the sand for fuck's sake that night because she was scared!
"JJ!" she screamed swimming towards him, turning the boy around she wrapped her arm around his waist, trying to keep them both afloat.
Her heart was racing as she struggled to keep her head above water, tried to fight her own demons that gripped her hair, feet, and everywhere and pulled her, "Please wake up JJ," she pleaded, her voice choked with tears and water that started filling her lungs, "I need you." she begged.
"JJ, stay with me." she called pushing his pretty blonde hair out of his face as she slapped his cheek gently, "J, please. Please!" she exclaimed louder this time.
Y/N's arms were growing tired, and she was struggling to keep JJ's head above water, his entire body leaned against hers desperately.
She could feel herself slowly drowning, but she refused to let go of him. Kicking and trashing around, moving her legs in fast motions, looked nothing like swimming, but kept her head a little above. She moved her legs around at a rapid speed to keep them both afloat, her heart was pounding in her chest, and she was gasping for air, her eyes burning from the salty water.
"Hang on, JJ," she said, her voice shaking. "We'll make it through this together." Despite her fear and exhaustion, Y/N continued to fight, determined not to let JJ go.
she leaned her head against his, his entire head leaning on her shoulder, "John B's coming, John B's coming." she whispered hoping he could hear her, mostly to herself, so she doesn't give up and let her demons take her.
The world really was against her huh?
Y/N was growing weaker by the second, her arms and legs were aching, and she could feel her muscles going numb.
She slowly leaned back, her eyes growing heavy as she struggled to stay conscious, "JJ," she called his name a thousand times, her voice barely above a whisper, "Stay with me, please."
Y/N knew she was fighting a losing battle, she did everything she could to stay awake and not let the water take her.
She squeezed him tightly, feeling his body grow heavier in her arms, despite the pain and exhaustion trying to take over, and dominate, she stayed awake until help arrived.
until John B. arrived.
"JOHN B! HELP!"
Y/N's lungs were burning, and she could feel the water going into her mouth as she called out for help.
"Help!" she shouted, her voice hoarse, "Please, John B help us!" she could feel herself slipping away, her body growing numb as the water enveloped her.
She coughed and sputtered, the taste of salt water filling her mouth, but even as she struggled to breathe, she refused to let go of JJ.
She held him tightly, her arm wrapped around him so tightly, doing everything she could to keep him above water, even pushing him slightly above her even if it resulted in her being underwater.
"Hang on, JJ," she said, her voice shaking, "Just a little longer. John B is coming." Despite the overwhelming odds against her, Y/N continued to fight, her legs moving rapidly as if she never swam in her entire life, determined to stay alive for JJ's sake.
Y/N sobbed against JJ's neck, her tears mixing with the salt water, "I'm sorry," she said, her voice trembling from the cold and fear, "I'm sorry. I should've been hit."
She felt guilty and responsible for JJ's injuries, and the weight of it was unbearable.
The water felt like it had hands, pulling her down and dragging her away from JJ. But she clung to him, her grip growing tighter as she fought against the current.
Soon enough, John B appeared and the pogues called out for their friend, "NO! No! No!" exclaimed John B stopping the boat and reaching for his best friend, his brother, and his family.
Y/N couldn't hear her friends calling out for her. She was lost in her own world, struggling to keep her head above water.
As soon as she felt JJ's weight slip away from her, safe and in the arms of her best friend, she let the water take her.
She felt herself sinking deeper and deeper, the darkness closing in all around her.
It wasn't until she felt the strong hands of Sarah, John B, Pope, and Kiara grabbing her and lifting her from under the water that she opened her eyes, gasping for air.
She clung to them tightly, using their strength to lift herself up and out of the water. She was shaking and disoriented, but she was alive.
"Thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "Thank you for saving me." with that, she looked around for JJ, and her heart sank to her stomach when she saw him lying motionless in the lifeboat.
She crawled towards him, her hands shaking as she reached out to slap his cheek, "Wake up, JJ," she pleaded, her voice choked with emotion.
"Please, wake up!" But JJ remained still, and Y/N felt a sense of panic rising in her chest, no, he can't die.
she knew that she had to do something to help him, so she began slapping his chest, trying to get the water out of his lungs, her friends surrounded her with worry and fear rushing through their veins.
Only Y/N calling and begging him to wake up boomed around them. "Come on, JJ, you can do this. Get up!" she said, her voice quivering badly, she was always a tough person with no fear in her eyes, and now they could see the pure anger and worry in them.
"Don't leave me like this." Y/N continued to work on JJ, refusing to give up even as her arms were limp and her eyes were blurry.
JJ suddenly sat up, coughing and spluttering, water coming out of his mouth.
He looked around, disoriented, and saw John B smiling down at him, "Welcome to the land of the living, dude," John B said, his voice filled with relief. "No CPR needed, huh?"
He didn't respond, instead, his eyes landed on Y/N's hand on his chest, and then on her tear-streaked face.
He sat up, feeling the weight of what had just happened hit him, his tensed muscles dropped at the sight of her like this, "Hi," she greeted, her voice hoarse and filled with relief.
"'sup?" he added teasingly, trying to lighten the mood.
Everyone laughed, and Y/N smacked him before pulling his head towards her chest and hugging him tightly.
She cried silently and kissed his forehead repeatedly, whispering, "Oh, darling, oh JJ, I thought I lost you."
JJ hugged her back, burying his head in the crook of her neck, "I'm here," he said, his voice shaking with emotion. "I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere." He held her tightly, feeling her warmth and her love envelop him.
For a moment, everything else faded away, and all that mattered was Y/N and JJ, together and alive, that was also the day they both realized they were really in love.
"What the hell happened?" JJ asked, reaching to touch his wound, but Y/N slapped his hand away, replacing it with a piece of fabric.
"The blunt end of a machete," replied Cleo, her voice filled with concern, "Machete?" JJ asked a hint of pride in his voice, "The blunt end. Next time, duck," Y/N said, nodding at Cleo before turning to glare at JJ.
JJ chuckled, wincing slightly at the pain in his side. "I'll try to remember that next time," he said, his voice laced with humor, "Thanks for the save, Y/N."
Y/N shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. "You saved me, I save you," she said, her eyes softening as she looked at JJ, "I couldn't let anything happen to your dumbass."
JJ smirked, but then he suddenly fainted dramatically, his body falling back onto the boat.
Y/N gasped and rushed to his side, checking his wounds, "JJ, JJ, are you okay?" she asked, her voice full of worry, suddenly, JJ's eyes snapped open, and he grinned up at her. "Gotcha," he said, laughing.
Y/N rolled her eyes in vexation, but she couldn't help but smile, "You're such a drama queen," she said, shaking her head in amusement.
JJ sat up, wincing slightly at the pain in his side, "What can I say?" he said, his voice filled with humor. "I like to keep you on your toes." she looked at JJ in pure annoyance, raising an eyebrow, "I can throw you back, you know," she said, her voice laced with sarcasm.
JJ grinned, knowing full well that she would never actually do it. "You won't," he said, his voice teasing.
But then Y/N gave him a glare that made him wince. "You won't, right?" he asked, suddenly unsure, "if you annoy me, then I will."

“J!” You screech as your husband comes up behind you to kiss your neck. “The kids are in the other room!” You remind him, although he doesn’t seem to stop his actions. You’re cooking dinner for your family and for your friends, John B and Sarah, that are coming over for dinner. However, it is difficult to do so when your husband’s hands have become insatiable from the moment he came back from work, always finding an excuse to touch you. His fingers dance along your torso as his lips trail down your neck, a couple of responsive mh’s falling out of his mouth, but you know he’s not listening at all. You’re becoming putty in his hands when a thought stops all of your motions, “Who’s watching the baby?!”
JJ barely moves as he mumbles against your skin, “Mh, I told Noah to watch Ella.” He calms you down, coming to the realization that your older son is making sure that his little sister is okay. Nonetheless, JJ continues his attack and begins to lower one of his hands down your short sundress. “Just wanted to show my wife some lovin’.”
You chuckle at his antics until his hands start approaching your most sensitive parts, causing you to instinctively throw the ladle you were stirring dinner with back inside the pan while your husband smirks against your skin. “Baby!” You squeal. Your own hands come up to hold his in place, but he takes this as an opportunity to kiss up your neck and trap your earlobe between his teeth. You’re about to say something when the sweet voice of your son makes you snap out of it and push JJ away.
“Mommy!” Your six-year-old calls out for you as he enters the kitchen, “When is uncle B coming?”
“Uhm…,” You try to find words after what just happened, clearing your throat as you resume your cooking, “he should be here any second, sweetheart.” You smile at him and hope that he won’t comment on how forced it looks for your thoughts have been completely thrown off by the smirking man beside you. However, as you look at the little version of your husband in front of you, you’re reminded of the other blue-eyed baby in the next room. “J, Ella!”
JJ is fast to run in the living room, “I got her, I got her!” He reassures you as his quick feet take him to your baby girl. Once he comes back inside the kitchen, you see him carrying Ella on his hip as she relaxes against her dad. “Here she is.” He whispers, not noticing the grin on your lips.
JJ turns towards your son, currently sitting on a kitchen stool, “Noah, I told you to watch her. Babies can’t be alone for too long.” He reprimands him.
“But she was fine, daddy.” The little boy tells him, confused as to why it was such a big deal.
Your husband nods, “I know, buddy, and I know that you wouldn’t want her to get hurt but this is for when we ask you to watch her in the future, okay? She could really get hurt if you don’t watch her all the time, alright?”
You almost tear up at the gentleness in his voice, the way he speaks with so much love laced in his voice, choosing his words carefully, it just makes you fall in love with him all over again every time.
“I’m sorry, daddy.” Noah apologizes sincerely and causes his dad to softly smile down at him.
“It’s okay. C’mere.” JJ lowers his head to kiss his son’s forehead.
Noah takes advantage of the closeness to leave a gentle kiss on his sister’s cheek. “Love you, Ella.” And just as he says those sweet words, the front door bell rings, making your son jump down his sit and run towards the door. “Uncle B!”
“God, he’s like an earthquake.” JJ chuckles.
Biting down on your bottom lip to stop the incoming laugh, “Reminds me of someone,” You tell him. Your husband looks at you with that mischievous smile of his, that reminds you all too well of your son’s.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the both of you, the person that your child has opened the door to doesn’t resemble John B at all. The grey-haired man looks down at the blond little boy, blue eyes like the sky, and he could tell who he’s related to from a mile away. Bending down to his height, he asks “Hello, where are your parents?”
Noah knows better than to let strangers inside the house, which is why he immediately shouts “Mommy, who is this?”
To say that you sprint towards your son is an understatement. “What is it, honey?” You try to keep your composure in order to not scare the little guy, although you don’t know what’s going on yet — and you wish to have never found out. Luke Maybank. “What — I —“ You choke on your words, but your actions are cautious, instinctively putting space between him and Noah.
“Oh.” The man in front of you lets out as he straightens up. It’s obvious that he’s recognized you and you don’t know wether it’s a good or a bad thing. “Is my son here?”
As he speaks he seems to take a step closer inside your house, and in a panic state, you yell out, “J, baby, can you come here for a second?” Luckily, your words stop Luke, who’s waiting now for his son.
JJ runs to you, Ella still in his protective embrace as he approaches you. “What’s going on?” He asks before his eyes can fall on the man that’s standing at the entrance of your home. His hold automatically tightens on his daughter and he throws a protective arm in front of you. “What are you doing here?” Venom spits from his lips, and he almost can’t believe his eyes.
Chuckling humorlessly, Luke speaks up again “That’s a great way to greet your father, huh?”
“Take the kids and stay inside.” JJ tells you as he hands you Ella and pushes you further inside the protected walls of your loving home.
“J, I don’t like this.” You whisper as you grab the wrist of the arm that’s moving you away from the entrance. You’ve known your husband since what feels like forever; you’ve always been there for him and you know what Luke Maybank is capable of. If there’s one person that you would ever tell JJ not to see anymore is his father: that’s how terrible the situation is.
He takes your hand in his and places a gentle kiss on the back of it, before a smile etches on his features, attempting at reassuring you. “Look at me, princess. It’s okay.” Although it isn’t, but he won’t tell you that.
You nod, unsure, and do as he tells you.
JJ closes the door behind him and faces his father, after years and years of complete silence. “What do you want?”
He shrugs his shoulders, as if his presence at his son’s house is the most natural thing in the world. But that’s not how it works for the Maybank’s. “I didn’t know I had grandkids.”
JJ shakes his head in disbelief and points an accusing finger at him. “Stay away from my family.”
“We’re family.”
The words alone make an unsettling feeling form in his stomach and bile rise up his throat. He doesn’t remember a moment in his life where his father has referred to him as family — except when he needed money from his own son. “No, we aren’t. Leave my wife and my kids alone.”
Luke ignores him, because that’s what he’s always been good at. “I see you have a son. What if he ends up treating you the same way you are treating your old man right now?”
He can’t be serious.
He cannot be serious.
Years and years of disappointments and constant battling, of a loveless father-son relationship, leading to this. “You see, that’s the difference between you and I. I would never lay a finger on my children.” He affirms as his fists close on their own. “Don’t ever talk about my kids again. Get out of here right now.”
“You’re being unfair.”
JJ is about to rebut but the sound of the door behind him opening stops the both of them. “Leave or I will call the police.” You warn Luke while your hand reaches for your husband’s.
He turns to you, hiding the thankful grin that wants to grow on his lips. “Get back inside, baby.”
“No.” You answer firmly. “You come back inside now.”
It is Luke that now interrupts. “We’re talking.”
“And I say you’re done.”
He huffs, an annoyed look upon his features as he takes a step closer. “Control your woman over—“
However, JJ puts his free hand on his father’s chest, stopping him from coming any closer. “Don’t you dare talk about my wife like that.” He squeezes your hand, then continues “You better leave.”
You don’t even give him a moment to answer when you pull your husband inside with you and lead him in your bedroom where you can have a private conversation from your children. As soon as you go to close the wooden door, JJ sits on the bed, his head in his hands as he covers his face.
“Oh, J…” You whisper, heartbroken for him. You lie on the bed behind his sitting figure and bring his attention to you as you pull his arm. “Come here.” And he obliges. Your husband lays his head on your chest and you immediately begin to run your fingers through his hair, just like you know he loves. He hides his face in your neck and holds your body as close to his as possible.
“How can he do that?” He asks softly, and you can hear the pain in his voice, wishing to take it all away. “I feel like I’m sixteen again and all I want to do is run away and hope to never turn out like him.”
Your arms wrap tightly around him as your neck twists to let your lips linger on the side of his head, bringing him as much comfort as possible. “But you did run away, baby, and you’re nothing like him. You’re the best father I could’ve asked for my children and I feel so blessed to share all of this with you. And don’t even let me start on how you’re the perfect husband.” Finally, you cradle his face in your hands, forcing him to look up at you, and notice the tears that are threatening to spill out of his eyes. But you’re not done. “You turned out to be the most sensitive, funny, caring, loving man I’ve ever met.”
“I love you so much, you know that, right?” He whispers against your lips, brushing them together and feeling your breath on his mouth.
“I know, baby. And I love you, too.”
Raising his head further, he goes to rest his forehead on yours, completely hovering above you. “What did I ever do to deserve you?”
You grin up at him. “I don’t know, did you wish really hard?”
Your words make a chuckle escape from his lips and you swear it’s the sweetest sound. “I can’t believe the way you talked to him. If you weren’t my wife already, I would’ve asked you to marry me.”
You peck his lips, “And I would’ve said yes again.” Your mouths touch once again, coming in for a prolonged kiss this time. “I would say yes a thousand times.”

pairing: jj maybank x fem!reader
summary: after breaking up with jj you weren't sure if you would like to burn his house down or heavily make out with him
warnings: fighting, break up, toxic relatinship
a/n: the ending is a bit serious, but i wanted them to do it the right was :)

poguelandia, summer of 2022, bonfire night
the night was warm and you were wearing your favorite dress, one your mother had gifted you, as you were watching the ocean with your red solo cup in hand. you had lost your friends a few minutes ago, but you weren't as drunk, so you didn't worry.
"beautiful, isn't it?" a voice next to you asked. you turned your head to look at the blonde boy.
you just shrugged. "it becomes boring after all those years"
he smirked. "you from around here?"
you just nodded, not really interested in a conversation with a stranger, hoping he would get the hint
"weird" he said "normally i know the people from here"
"cool" you took a sip from your cup
"not really interested in a conversation, huh?" the boy leaned forward to catch a glimpse of your face "what's your name?"
"at this point you purposefully ignore my desinterest, right?" you turned your body to look at him. he was handsome, you had to give him that. his hair was a bit too long and would occassionaly fall before his eyes, then he would push it back with a quick gesture. his eyes were even bluer than the ocean and under different circumstances you had probably found him cute, but now you were only annoyed.
"i'm jj" he didn't even acknowledge what you had said "and you are surely not a pogue"
"bye, jj!" you smiled at him sarcastically
"i bet i can guess your name" jj looked you up and down and you crossed you arms "you kooks only have those fancy names. is it abigail? or chicago? ashlynn? it's often something with lynn at the end"
you shook your head at each of his guesses. "listen" you said, finally having enough of this game "will you leave me alone if i tell you my name?"
he smirked, proud of his success, and nodded
"it's y/n"
jj's smile grew even bigger "what a truly beautiful name"
"bye, jj!" you repeated your words from earlier and gently pushed him in the direction of the singing crowd
"my last name is maybank, that would go so well with y/n, don't you think?"
and that was the end of the story, well.. not quiet. jj did leave you alone after you had just rolled your eyes at him once again, but you had found each other later in the evening, and you weren't sure what it was, but somehow he was charming and drunk enough to convinve you to go on a date with him and the rest was history.
poguelandia, 15 months later...
"at this point you're just disagreeing to disagree with me!" your screams rolled over the island and made the rest of the pogues turn their heads in your direction
"do you even hear yourself?" jj screamed back in the same volume "what you say doesn't even make sense"
"you well understand what i'm saying, you asshole"
"i'm literally not!" he raised his arms, a hint of innocence flying over his face, before it returned back to anger "do you ever not want to fight with me?"
"i want to fight?" you repeated angrily "you are the one that never voices what he wants!"
you saw him open his mouth to say something in protest, but didn't let him lose a word
"you get jealous as hell just to stare at some girl's ass half a second later!"
"come on, baby" he said, a lot calmer now "don't blow this out of proportion"
"don't call me baby, right now, jj" you freed your arms from his hold "don't call me in general, we're done"
"what the fuck, y/n?" jj looked between you and his friends. you did not react to his calling and just continued your way off the beach
"i think she said everything" said pope and kie, sarah and john b nodded as well. "you're not good for each other, jj"
"fuck" jj kicked the nearest thing he could find. making the beer can fly throught the air and empty over the sand
once you had left the beach behind you, you had walked to your car, getting in quickly and driving off to meet with your best friend. you searched through the list of contacts that your car displayed, until you could click on her name.
"y/n?" she asked confused "are you alright? i thought you were with jj? did something happen?"
you dragged your hand through your face, wiping away the streak of tears. "we broke up"
"oh, sweetheart!" amanda breathed
"i'm on my way to you, are you free?"
"of course" you could hear her walk through the room "drew is here, but i'll tell him to leave"
"it's fine" you said "he doesn't have to leave because of me"
"are you sure?"
"can i still come?"
"of course, as long as you don't mind him being there, i don't want you to be even sadder"
"i'm not sad" you shook your head "i'm so fucking angry"
"o-okay" she said quickly
"i'll see you in ten" with that you ended the call, turning at the nearest street. "and he always picks fights with me, just because he wants to disagree on something"
drew and amanda were sitting on the couch while you paced in front of them. drew was your best friends long term boyfriend (long term as in almost five years) and had grown to be like your brother.
"he's amazing when we don't fight, but apart from that it's just.." you stopped, not sure how to call it
"toxic?" drew raised his hand
"yes, thank you" you pointed at him "he exactly knows which buttons to push"
"yeah alright and what do you want to do now?" amanda asked
"huh?"
"i say you have two options for tonight: either we can stay here, watch a few movies and eat ice cream or we go to the beach party, get wasted and find someone you can make out with"
"ha!" drew called "i'm in favour of the second option!"
"me too" you smiled "but i need something to wear"
"amanda" drew turned to his girlfriend "get the slutty emerald dress you got last year"
amanda smiled brightly and quickly left the room to fetch the dress. "it's amazing" drew smiled "and it'll fit good with your hair"
amanda walked back into the room, presenting the dress to you, smiling. drew watched her attentively. it was in these moments that your friends reminded you of lily and marshall from how i met your mother. "go put it on" amanda encouraged and you did as you were told
the dress was gorgeous, was the first thing you thought. it was pretty short and looked fancy, but at the same time casual enough to wear to a beach party. apart from that it emphasized your figure and gave you a beautiful cleavage.
"wow" both of your friends said, once you had returned. "look at you" amanda touched your hip and quickly pulled her hand back, as if she had just burned herself
"that's what i was thinking" drew nodded and the couple high fived. he turned around to grab a bottle from the shelve "time for you two to get drunk, i'll drive"
"thanks drew" amanda and you chorused, while she grabbed the bottle to fill both of your glasses "let's turn up some taylor swift and get ready"
it was two hours later, when you and your friends arrived at the beach. amanda and you were pretty tipsy, but not totally drunk yet. it didn't take you long to catch sight of the group of pogues you knew all too well. jj was standing with his back in your direction, until pope nudged him at the arm, which caused him to turn around and look at you.
it looked like he wanted to talk to you, but john b held him back. you were thankful. it wasn't the first time jj and you had fought and he often made it hard for you to keep being angry at him.
"what are you looking--oh" amanda notice the sad look on your face. she knew that you loved him, in your own way, just like he loved you. but she knew even better that you weren't good for each other. this back and forth was only breaking you more day to day and she couldn't bear and watch it anymore. "you have to let him go. get him out of your head, make out with some boys, just-" she paused and you regonized the sincerity in her eyes "do something, please"
"i can't help it" you said, turning your head back to look at him "i hate and love him so much. i think he ruined me for anyone else" "and you think that is healthy?"
"far from it" you shook your head
"it's not always easy" amanda said softly, trying to cheer you up
"i know"
"can you promise me something, y/n?" amanda asked and you nodded "when you go back to him, and i know you will, try to work on it, for the sake of the both of you" she smiled gently "jj is a good guy, and neither of you deserves this"
"i know" you said once again, catching jj's eyes over the fire "i promise"
"good" amanda nodded in contentment and waved you off.
"hi" you held your cup in jj's direction "can you fill it up?"
"hey" he said, nodding "of course"
"can we talk?"
he nodded once again, leading you away from the crowd.
"i'm sorry" you said "this is the last time"
"what are you talking about?"
"do you want to get back together?" you put your hands around his neck and he nodded. "okay, me too. but this is the last time i'm coming back"
"what does that mean?"
"that means that if we break up again it's over" you explained
"it will only take a week, you know that, y/n" jj sighed
"no" you shook your head "if we're doing this again, we will do it right"
"we can never do it right" jj shook his head "we tried"
"i know" you nodded "but we need to try harder. i can't keep doing this and i know that you can't either"
"so what's the plan?"
"we fix it" you assured "we talk. we did way too less of that all those times. i want to make this work, jj"
"i want too"
"we need to be honest to each other" you smiled "we have to promise that to each other. i don't want to lose you. i love you"
"i love you too" he sighed "but sometimes you drive me crazy"
"i know" you admitted "you drive me crazy too. but we can't keep running away from our problems. in the future we need to discuss them"
"okay" jj breathed and then after a second "can i kiss you now?"
"you can"

pairing: jj maybank x fem!routledge reader
summary: you always had a thing for jj, while you thought he had a thing for kie. you couldn't have been more wrong..
warnings: none i think
notes: i have absolutely no clue how to play poker, so please don't grill me lmao
the water glistened, reflecting the afternoon sun. you dunked your feet inside, hanging from the bridge you were sitting on. it was lightly moving due to the waves beneath it.
you kept your eyes trained on the horizon, but looking at nothing in particular.
jj came running from the shore, sitting down beside you, letting his feet dangle into the water next to yours. "john b is making food"
"what could he possibly be making?" you smiled, clearly knowing that there wasn't much left in the pantry. you got through the day alright, thanks to both of you working, but you didn't buy any extraordinary things to make sure you had enough money to pay everything else.
“we’re having toast,” jj smirked, then paused for dramatic effect. “but we raided heyward’s for tomatoes, and kiara brought guac from her mom. so it’s fancy toast.”
“fancy toast! the ritz could never.” you hugged your knees to your chest, resting your chin on them, but a smile crept up on your lips.
"what are you even doing out here alone?"
"i'm thinking"
"about your dad?" jj asked carefully. "you know I’m here if you need to spill. no judgment. not even if it’s super depressing.”
"thanks, i know" you were thankful that you had such great friends. people that were like family to you and always made sure you were alright, even if they didn't have much to give themselves, apart from kiara.
"are you going to surf the surge tomorrow?" jj changed the topic, interpreting your silence as answer enough.
"heard agatha's gonna be a bitch" you shrugged. "must be nice to lose a few unnecessary limbs"
"don't be ridiculous, i'm a pro" jj took the sunglasses off his head and pushed them on your nose instead. "are you coming or not?"
"i prefer not to" you giggled, slapping his hand away as he tried to readjust the rest of your apperance. "gonna look good for cps"
"they won't even make it out here, agatha will arrive too soon for that"
"well, then i should be thanking her, right?" you looked up to the sky, the sun still breaking through the slowly arriving clouds, but the darkness of them made it evident that it wouldn't take too long for the storm to arrive. "thanks aggy! sorry for calling you a bitch"
"if that isn't nice" jj grinned. "look at you! such a polite lady"
"told you i could behave better than you" you stood up and waited for him to do the same. "i'm pretty sure they just told you to go and get me not to wait out until they had finished the food, right?"
"caught me" jj shrugged. you knew him well enough to guess that he was trying to escape more work than necessary. "but it did take some time to find you. you weren't in the tower john b locked you in"
"oh, maybe i'm not as well behaved as we thought" you shrugged, following him back to the beach. "you need those sunglasses soon?" you liked the red tinted look of them. you had worn them before and you loved that they made you look like a hippie or vanessa hudgens going to coachella in 2014.
“keep ‘em,” jj shrugged, giving you an exaggerated once-over. “you look better in them anyway.”
you raised an eyebrow, genuinely curious. “how much did these cost?”
jj spun around, pretending to be offended. “whoa, whoa! don’t insult me like that. i didn’t pay for them.”
you laughed. “you stole these?”
“they were like six dollars, okay? i stole them out of principle.” he wiggled his eyebrows like that somehow made sense.
you shook your head amused. “jj, that’s still stealing.”
“nah, see, i was planning on giving them to you for a while, so really, it was a selfless act. call it proactive gift-giving.”
jj’s face lit up, the trademark smirk in place as you walked side by side back toward the beach. he kicked at the sand a little, glancing over at you every few seconds like he was waiting for you to laugh again.
you could hear the others before you saw them—john b shouting something about the toast burning, and kiara’s voice cutting through with, “how do you even burn toast?!”
“so, what’s the plan after we survive this gourmet meal?” you asked, your tone only half-teasing.
jj rubbed his hands together with a glint in his eyes. “well, after we feast on fancy toast and whatever leftovers kiara’s mom sent, i was thinking… poker.”
“poker? don’t we always lose when we play with pope?”
“yeah, but he’s working today, so we have a chance.” jj wiggled his eyebrows as if this were the best news in the world.
you laughed, shaking your head. “so, your plan is to take all my money after i generously agree to participate in poker?”
jj’s smirk deepened. “well, since you’re wearing those shades, you’re bound to win. you’ve got that poker-face-hippie thing going on.”
you shrugged, pretending to think about it. “true. i could absolutely bluff the hell out of you all.”
he nodded seriously. “exactly. so really, it’s your civic duty to play.”
“civic duty,” you repeated, laughing. “sure, sure.”
"sit down, you two" kiara ancouraged when you walked onto the patio.
"where have you been that long?" john b questioned, looking at you suspiciously. "you're always sneaking around together"
"don't be ridicilous, b" you shook your head. "we were just watching the waves"
kiara and jj exchanged glances you didn’t quite understand. it made your nerves tweak to not know what they were hinting at.
“i bet it was a sight so see” kiara said softly, a smirk on her face.
jj nodded. “as always” he shrugged, his eyes still on her.
you had to try hard not to let your face distort into jealousy. you had had a crush on jj for as long as you could remember. and the two of you were close, but nothing ever really happened with your brothers best friend.
being in love with jj was confusing. most of the time, he treated you just like anyone else, acting completely normal. but then, out of nowhere, he'd start flirting, leaving you unsure of what to think.
even though you tried your best, the crush on the boy always resurfaced when he would flirt with you once more, keeping your hopes up.
the meal continued without anything happening and you found yourselves cleaning the table to play a few rounds of poker like jj had promised.
"looks like you're in a tough spot" he grinned.
kiara had put down her cards, while you were trying hard to keep a straight face, knowing you would probably lose.
you shrugged. "i don't see you putting down anything valuable, maybank"
"ohh" kiara and your brother hollored at the same time.
"well, let's see then" kiara nudged jj's shoulder.
the blonde smirked before he revealed his cards to you, flushing a street. "you've underestimated me, guys"
john b and you sighed simultaneously, accepting defeat as you threw your own cards in the middle. while jj was busy mixing the cards, kiara took a look at her phone.
"i think i better head out" she smiled, standing up from her chair. "my mother's gonna go crazy if i'm late again"
you played a few more rounds after the girl had left, john b and you losing to jj each time. you were sure he had gotten help from pope, knowing that his time would come.
john b threw down his cards after one more uneventful round. "i'm heading to bed" he nodded, pulling his snapback down, before he highfived jj and pressed a kiss to your hair. "don't stay up too late"
"night, b" you smiled as you watched after him.
"one more round?" jj giggled.
"i'm all out" you shrugged, pointing at the pile of money on the table in front of him.
"well, if i lose you can have all of it"
"this sounds almost too good" you muttered. "okay, what if i lose then?"
"you'll take off your shirt" he shrugged.
"jj!" you pushed a hand to your mouth, draining out the scream of outrage that threatened to errupt in the air between you.
"what?" jj smirked, looking up at you with wide blue eyes. "am i making you nervous?"
"not a chance," you shot back, trying to keep your voice steady despite the way your heart was hammering in your chest. jj's smirk widened, the mischievous glint in his eyes only growing as he shuffled the cards one more time.
"alright then," he said, dealing the cards smoothly. "prove it."
you glanced at your hand, trying to keep your expression neutral. jj's eyes flickered up to meet yours, watching you intently, and you couldn't tell if he was bluffing or not.
you took a deep breath and played the first card, trying to focus on the game instead of the way jj was watching you like a hawk.
the next few minutes were tense, each of you placing cards with care. it was almost suffocating.
"you're really dragging this out, you know that?" you muttered, glancing up at him.
jj just grinned, his eyes glinting with amusement. "patience, sweetheart. good things come to those who wait," he replied, his voice low and teasing. you rolled your eyes but couldn't help the slight tug at the corners of your mouth.
finally, it came down to the last card. you had one left in your hand, and so did jj. your eyes met, the room silent except for the sound of your heartbeat in your ears. You hesitated for a split second, then threw down your card.
jj's eyes flickered to the table, his face breaking into a triumphant grin. he laid his final card down with a laugh.
"looks like i win," he drawled, his voice smug. your eyes widened as you stared at the cards, disbelief washing over you. how did he keep doing this?
"you've got to be cheating," you grumbled, pushing back from the table. jj laughed, the sound warm, filling the quiet night air around you.
"well, you agreed to do this" he shrugged, like he was completely in the right.
you looked at him without any expression on your face, before you sighed, your fingers dipping down to meet the material of your shirt, as you stood up.
jj's eyes widened at your movement, standing up at the same time. "it was a joke, y/n" he muttered quickly. "you don't have to do anything you don't want to"
you halted in your movement. "if you had won, would you have given me the money, like you promised?"
"of course" jj answered without so much as a thought.
your smile deepend, before your fingers gripped the hem of the shirt, pulling it over you head in a quick motion. revealed was your bikini top. the one jj had seen you in a million times, but still his eyes widened even further.
jj's mouth opened slightly, his usual cocky demeanor vanishing as he stared at you. he remembered seeing you in it before, but this still felt different. maybe it was the intimacy of the dimly lit patio, or the way you stood before him now, your eyes steady and unwavering. you had called his bluff, and he was utterly speechless.
"see?" you said, trying to keep your voice light despite the rapid thudding of your heart. "no big deal. just a bikini, jj."
he swallowed hard, finally snapping out of his daze. "right," he said, his voice cracking slightly. he cleared his throat, his gaze darting away before quickly finding its way back to you. "just a bikini."
you walked around the table, pushing yourself between him and the discarded chair. "this can't really be the reason you're so uneasy"
you tried to read the emotion on his face, but he just looked at you, at a loss for words. you softly pushed your hand to rest against his chest. your eyes widened in surprise. "your heart is racing" you declared with a soft whisper.
"yeah" jj finally found his words. "you're so close"
you looked up at him, surprised at what he was hinting at. "i'm sorry if i'm making you uncomfortable" you tried to step back, but his hand shot out, holding you in place by your elbow.
"jj" you muttered, your voice barely audible. you could feel your heart beat just as fast as his did.
"have i ever told you how beautiful you are?" jj's voice was soft and tender, like he was trying not to disrupt the calmness of the moment.
"no" you sighed, unsure. he came closer, your noses were almost touching. his eyes were ready to close, not far from kissing you. your voice rung out before he could do anything of that sort. "what about kie?"
"what?" jj blinked in surprise, stepping backwards.
"what about kie?" you repeated a little bit louder.
"what about her?" jj laughed, before he saw the confusion in your eyes.
"i thought there was something—“
"between me and kie?" he smiled, shaking his head. "well only that she knew about my crush on you"
"you have a crush on me?"
"i thought it was kinda obvious" he pointed a finger between the both of you. "can i please finally kiss you now, routledge?"
you smiled, your heart fluttering in your chest at his confession. "of course" you watched him step closer once more, before you grinned. "but what about—?"
"—oh would you shut up now?" he pushed his lips against yours, drowning out your giggle as your smile touched his mouth like it was supposed to.

pairings. hockey!jj maybank x fem!reader, hockey!rafe cameron x fem!reader
part one of four.
about. your senior year of high school is hard enough with trying to get scouted for a college hockey team, especially when you're a girl. and jj maybank doesn't make it any easier.

part one, part two, part three
warnings. not my gif (my mom saw it and flipped out), swearing, inaccurate hockey teams and info, sexual themes (talk only)
put a pin in this. welcome to my new hockey series with jj, inspired from this one person that writes really good hockey!rare cameron fics (but i don't remember who and am too lazy to search them up). edit: it’s @/sunnypogue
“what do you think will happen if i punched him in the face right now?”
“hm,” kie pursed her lips into a thin line as she switched to your line of eye sight that focused on the opposing team. “seeing you’d have to cross all the way to the other side of the ice rink, it definitely wouldn’t go unnoticed, especially since all his douche friends are surrounding him.. right now,” she bit her lip, thinking about it a little more. “you’d definitely get kicked from the game.”
“you think so?”
“yeah.”
“me too.”
“glad we’re in the same headspace.”
you sighed, standing from the bench before turning to face kie who sat on the other side of the glass, her elbows leaned on her knees, bundled up in her brand new corduroy coat she bought just for occasions like this. even as hockey wasn’t the biggest focus out in outer banks, or even.. a topic.. like at all, there were still a few of you who were good enough to play on a elizabeth city team, all players weeded out by ward cameron himself.
you being one of them.
elizabeth city consisted of two hockey teams with teenage boys located all around the eastern side of north carolina. but to the acceptation of you being really really good, rules were bent and you were shoved on the next ferry out to the main land with the rest of the outer banks boys.
today, you were playing the other team from elizabeth city, the rangers, and you couldn't be more irritated as you watched them boast around with smirks so wide you could see it from across the ice.
you were leaned against the glass that separated you and kie from contact as you stared at one particular boy who was midst a small laugh while lacing up his skates before lifting his eyes, connecting with yours unintentionally. his face consumed with a wider smirk before he mumbled something to his teammates once he got up from the bench.
"you've been spotted," kiara mumbled with a soft cough, "maybe you won't have to cross to the other side after all." the two of you watched the boy, jj maybank take a step onto the ice before smoothly gliding to your teams bench where his smirk didn't falter and he held his posture high once your teammates begun to notice his oncoming presence. "good luck," kie exhaled sharply, pressing her hand against the glass almost in some form of reassurance before traveling further back in the stands where she could spot sarah finding a seat.
"long time no see, y/l/n,” he was leaned against the glass doorway to your teams bench, a snide smile on his face as you made your way next to him with an unfazed expression that curated with you being annoyed. it only made him smile more as he bit down on the corner of his lip. “you ready to get your ass beat?”
“in your dreams, jj,” he only laughed as you were stood across from him, a frown on your face. “we saw you play last game, you weren’t doing so well.”
he frowned immediately, looking away as his mind went back to the colorado rockers game his team played last week, which did in fact not end so well with them winning only by one point, earning a very long lecture from coach.
coming from a city that has low chances of snow, much isn't expected from an ice hockey team. the rangers (jj's team) and the scouts (your team) knew this from day one of practice, meaning everyone wanted to prove that statement wrong. so winning by only one point difference only fed into "much isn't expected" even as the colorado rockers was a really good team.
"well, y/n, your team is no colorado rockers, so we should be able to wipe you up without a problem," his smirk returned and you mirrored his expression, tipping your head slightly.
"i'll believe it when i see it, maybank," you skated away and back to the bench, only to quickly frown once your back was turned to him, his words beginning to sink in.
just like the back and forth banter you and jj shared, your teams always tried to one up each other despite never being consistent or having a streak of winning against one another. it was always annoying and you never really had leverage of being the best, because in the end your wins evened up, always.
"hey, sweetheart," he called loudly, making the smirk very obvious in his voice, "i'll make a deal with you." you finally turned back around to face him, now becoming clear to the fact that most of your teammates were also staring. "you and your team win this game, i'll leave you alone the rest of the season and i'll even step down from ‘elizabeth city's best player’."
you frowned rather harder, "what's the catch?"
his smirked formed into a hard grin that made your chest tighten, "i win, we’ll just say you owe me something."
you bit the inside of your cheek as you stared at him, actually considering this since him stepping down from “elizabeth city’s best player” would do a lot for you in the fact that scouts eat that type of shit up. and maybank no longer bothering you… that was just a plus.
“deal,” you were hesitant about speaking those words but you still said it with a full voice before turning back around, beginning to prepare to win the game.
°•
“you really bet that?" he quirked a brow as the two of you continued to walk down the dock outside of your house, enjoying the nice breeze that combed through your hair.
"yeah, i did."
you walked side by side with rafe cameron, his hands were stuffed in his pockets and he had a furrow between his brows as he continued to listen to you speak about the bet jj had made, and how you had agreed, stupidly.
"i don't think that was exactly a good idea, kid."
"yeah, well, having a better chance at winning 'elizabeth city's best player' seemed like it was a good idea at the time," you mumbled, staring down as you fumbled with your fingers.
"i don't think that would have helped," he spoke hesitantly, looking down at his own feet before back at the horizon where the sun begun to set within the hills. it made his chest swarm with heat as the colors of orange and pink swallowed his sight. "never has a female won best player for elizabeth city hockey. it's always some guy working his ass off for some college that has more than one season."
"you calling yourself 'some guy', cameron?" you smirked up at him as you thought back to rafe's senior year where he had won best player by a landslide and a year later, actually turned out going to augsburg college in minnisota, where they in fact did experience all four seasons of weather. he shook his head but still stifled a small smile to your words. "besides, i'm not just some girl who knows the basics of hockey, i can outstake and play better than half those boys. that's why your father chose me."
rafe seemed to have tensed at the words 'your father', biting the inside of his cheek as he looked in your direction, but not directly at you. his eyes once again traced and lined against the horizon and the light movement of the waves slapping against the side of the dock. the two of you stopped, leaning against the railing and finally you observed the sunset yourself.
it's silent.
you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear before looking to rafe with the adjustment of leaning on your elbow. he didn’t look at you making you frown harder as you thought of what to say.
“we lost the game,” you said, breaking the silence despite your words being unnecessary since it was similar to the words rafe had greeted you with when he hopped off his motor bike that afternoon, a frown etched into his face. “but i don’t think jj will make me doing anything stupid.”
rafe quirked a brow as if asking if you really believed that, “he’s a boy.”
“implying.. what?”
“he’s going to make you give him head.. or some shit because that’s what boys do.”
“you included?”
“yes, me included,” he tipped his head to you with his blunt response making it seem stupid of you to ask that question.
you rolled your eyes, still leaning on your forearms as you now begun to think more deeply into this deal. you hadn’t thought that was the type of deal it was, but now the more you thought about it, it totally could be.
“if he pressures you into anything-“
“he won’t.”
“you saying you want to give him head?-”
“rafe, shut the fuck up.”
he laughed as you jabbed your elbow into his ribs, shaking your head to his amusement, before his face fell short and turned back to it's blunt blankness, "i'm serious." his hand clasped the back of your neck as he leaned closer to you, "he can't make you do anything you don't want to do."
you felt him press a kiss on the top of your head before walking off.

practiced kicked ass more than usual due to the loss against the rangers over the weekend and that wasn't something your coach was going to let slide. especially due to one of your teammates starting a fight with jj after he made an illegal play that went unnoticed by the refs.
your coach strived for all of you to play smart and respectfully and to not have anger blind your better judgment, because usually, when that happened, which was a lot, it ended with his players in the box with a penalty none of you could afford.
you pulled your mask from face in order to wipe the sweat that trickled down your forehead, slightly clenching your jaw as you were shoved along to the direction of the locker rooms. you almost allowed yourself to relax now that practice was over till your eyes landed on jj leaned back in one of the many blue stadium seats with his feet kicked up on the chair in front of him. one of his hands held his phone while the other was thrown over the chair next to him, obviously immersed in whatever was on his screen.
you prayed he wouldn't see you.
and he didn't.. till you walked out from the girls locker room, fresh from the shower smelling of strawberries with your hockey bag slung over your shoulder. you also completely forgotten about him till he called out.
"hey, sweetheart," he nodded to you as you turned slowly, tightening your grip on the duffle bag strap as your eyes met his. they were full of wildness and it made your stomach tighten as you examined them more and more, knowing his head was filled full with mischief. "wanna take a walk?"
"come to collect what i owe, maybank?"
he kissed his teeth, the corner of his lips slightly twitching up into a smile as he pushed himself off from the wall, "something like that." he stood close across from you, his hands now stuffed in his sweatpants pocket, eyes eating at you. it seemed he could tell you were nervous by how his smirk seemed to increase no matter how hard he tried to suppress it. he licked the inside of his cheek before tugging on your clothed shoulder, turning you around toward the front exit, "let's go, hockey puck."

part one, part two, part three

ricky rocks. yuh, school sucks ass
“i want to make another bet with you.”
“maybank, you have to be about the dumbest person i know if you think-”
“hold on, hear me out.”
jj had driven you all the way out to north carolina’s end and virginia’s state beginning. the two of you were shoved into a booth across from one another that looked out over the splitting concrete of the parking lot jj had his truck parked in. snow begun to slowly fall and you felt chills crawl up your spine as you thought of the small, but cold snowflakes piling up for winter’s beginning.
jj slid his hot plate of fries toward you. you glanced down at the before looking back up to up to him. he had his forearms pressed against the table, slightly rubbing his finger tips against the sticky green surface, silver ring gleaming in the snowy late afternoon light. his face was slowly clearing from his summer tan despite obx always being sunny and the hair peaking out from beneath his snapback hat was turning darker from its usual sunny blonde.
he always looked good and it made you nervous.
“i know you want the best player award,” he mumbled, “and i know you won’t win it unless i step down.”
you raised your brows, waiting for him to emphasize.
“i’m already set, i know i’ll get a scholarship even without a piece of paper—or trophy that says i’m good,” your lip twitched at the sound of his slight bragging while he now clasped his hands on the sticky table. “you’re good at the game, like really good, but half the scouts are too misogynistic to allow themselves to notice it, y/n.”
your lips were pressed into a thin line, slightly caught off guard by his words despite you already knowing all of this. it was just strange hearing it from his mouth.
“what do you want in return?”
he smiled slightly, glancing down at his hands like he was embarrassed for even asking, “i need a date.”
you inhaled sharply, “to what?”
“ward’s hosting a party, or not so much a party but a get together that’s supposed to reel scouts in for a better chance of me and the team getting offers,” you glanced to the side, suddenly remembering when ward had done the same thing with rafe. it was a complete shit-show due to rafe still being knee deep in his coke addiction. “ward wants me to get a date because it puts out a better image and said it doesn’t matter who just as long as they have a pretty smile and can clean up nice.”
“so you want me... to be your date?” you were taken aback, leaning slightly away from him in your seat.
“you have a pretty smile, don’t you?” you inhaled sharply, causing his smile to increase, “relax, puck bunny, i really only chose you because your ass isn’t so bad to look at.”
you rolled your eyes, now shaken from your slight shock, “alright, asshole-”
“we have a deal or not?”
°•
“no, no deal,” rafe shakes his head as he scrapes the last of the pork from yesterday’s dinner onto his plate, “you haven’t even ‘repaid’ the last bet, so why add onto your debt?”
you watched him arranged and work around your kitchen while he spoke. your hands were folded and your posture was straight as you thought hard about this. you had left jj with the answer of ‘i’ll think about it’ just as he had dropped you off at home—and of course, you had to question rafe on the situation even as you already knew what his answer would be, which was—
“it’s stupid,” he shook his head once more, “knowing my father, he probably already has a girl lined up for him.”
“oh c’mon,” you slightly popped your lip out as he turned to face you and set his full plate at the island, “do you think they have as pretty as a smile as i do.”
rafe was silent for a minute, examining your face before scoffing in amusement, shaking his head, “don’t start.”
“what?”
“you know,” he shrugged, “i would’ve thought you were smarter than to fall for a guy who calls you pretty like once.”
“shut up,” you rolled your eyes before leaning forward on one your elbows, while reaching for one of grapes on rafe’s plate, “why’s ward even throwing this party anyways?”
he shrugged, “your new boyfriends really good, better than me, and knowing my father, he’ll take anything that benefits him. and jj seems to have a benefiting future ahead of him.”

about. rafe is leaving, and he feels he owes it to you to let you know

warnings. swearing and angst
ricky rocks. fat crush on rafe cameron 😻
“hey, sweetheart,” a hand lightly clamped down on your shoulder, taking you by surprised as you turned, seeing rafe and relaxing with a soft smile that he always loved so much.
“country club,” you smirked, “it’s been awhile.”
“miss me?”
you rolled you’re eyes. of course you did, but you couldn’t say it. it wasn’t apart of the game, the taunting and teasing. admitting you missed his company and pretty face would be a humiliation of losing.. and you didn’t like losing.
“never.”
he scoffed lightly, shaking his head as he slowly eased into the seat next to you at your place at the bar. you were holding a glass of water that could be easily mistaken for straight vodka.. which is said because rafe did mistake it for the toxic drink when clasping the glass from your grip and sipping it lightly. he narrowed his brows in surprisal, questioning you as you watched him with a twinge of amusement.
“i’m cutting back.”
“oh really?”
“yeah.”
“didn’t know you were a quitter all of a sudden.”
“shut up,” you shook your head, turning your head back to the tv hinged high on the wall playing a tennis match.
he smiled, squeezing your shoulder before rubbing your back. he was hesitant about touching you when arriving and almost wanting to refrain from it, but he couldn’t help himself; grazing his fingers over the skin that was slightly exposed from your lower back underneath your tight green tank top.
you eased in it, almost leaning into his warm touch of grazing his knuckles against your already hot skin, but also sending chills up your spine from the metal ring he always wore.
“you play today?”
“mhm.”
“did you win?”
“mhm.”
“why’re you cutting back?”
your eyes diverted from the television, gazing over to the glass cup that sat between you and rafe, almost empty, “i kind of blacked out and ended up somewhere i had never been to.. before.”
he shook his head, continuing to rub your back, “you didn’t call me?”
“i don’t have your number, country club.”
“yes, you do.”
you shook your head, eyebrows slightly quirked.
“why wouldn’t you have my number?”
“you never gave it to me.”
rafe knew he didn’t. there was a reason why.
“how’d you get home?”
“topper.”
he hummed in reply, of course, “you shouldn’t be stupid.”
“and what, be more like you?” you arched your brow and he paused with caressing your skin, “the last time i checked, you were spending all of daddy’s money on coke.”
“don’t.”
“don’t what?”
“don’t be a brat.”
you smirked.
it was silent again and your eyes were back on the tv while his analyzed the side of your face intently, memorizing it.
“you’re being creepy, country club.”
he hummed.
“why’re you being weird.”
“what do you mean?”
“usually.. we’re fucking or at your house, but right now you’re doing a terrible job at attempting to make small talk.”
there’s a long silence and you almost swear you made him mad by the way he looks away from you and at the ground. but he isn’t, he doesn’t growl nor whisper a pointless insult or threat in your ear, he doesn’t do anything but stay silent.
and it worries you.
“y/n,” he presses his lips into a thin line, “i cant see you anymore.”
“what?”
“i cant see you anymore. i’m going away and i don’t know when i’ll be back,” he avoids your stare, “i don’t think i am coming back.”
“what, rafe, why?” your chest tightens and you feel as if you’re going to have a melt down, you didn’t know why. “what do you mean you’re leaving?”
he looks up for a split second, enough time to recognize the hurt beginning to swarm your eyes, “something.. something bad happened or not really bad but- somethings come up and i have to leave.. with wheezie and rose.”
your body was now fully averted to face rafe as you were stunned and taken aback, not knowing how to consume this information.
you weren’t sure why you felt this way. why you felt as if someone had dropped a million pounds on your stomach and it was getting hard to breathe from the lump forming in your throat. you knew you had some feelings for rafe, just not so much to the point someone could mistake you as love sick at this point.
“why?”
“hm?”
“rafe,” you paused, thinking of what you could say and you truly didn’t know, but you stopped yourself from saying anything stupid or anything that would clue that you cared a lot more than you should. you slowly stood, clasping his bicep lightly, “good luck, country club.”
you pressed a kiss on the side of his cheek before walking away, holding your breath from any noises that would indicated the pain you felt in your chest from it shattering.

part three of four.
about. you and jj go shopping for a dress

part one, part two, part three
warnings. swearing, gif not mine, abuse :/
ricky rocks. this is to make up for the last part lol (i also hated the way this turned out tbh)
“hello?”
“hey, hockey puck.”
“maybank.”
“don’t sound so excited,” you could hear his stupid grin from the other side of the line, it made your lips twitch slightly as you slowly sat at the edge of your bed.
“what do you want?”
“ward called for a dinner rehearsal,” he mumbled, “i need you there.”
“why?”
he sighed, rubbing his chin, “ward wants to get to know everyone before ‘the big show’, make sure everything moves smoothly.”
“i’ve already met ward,” you gritted, reminiscing about all the times you attended the elizabeth city hockey parties he hosted at the end of the year to celebrate the season. you weren't so fond of him despite him being one of your biggest supporters.
“where are you right now.”
"i'm home.. why?"
it was silent and you could practically hear the gears in his head turn as he thought along with the silence, his lips pressed into a thin line as he paced his room within the cameron house, "you have a dress yet?"
°•
jj had one hand gripping the steering wheel of his truck while the other held the gear shift, tapping his finger lightly so some sound filled the air. but it somehow made the atmosphere more awkward with no words to say and no things to do as you tapped your own fingers against the door, eyes glancing out the window every once and awhile, observing the gloomy air that was slowly falling over obx- - something you always loved when winter took over; when the cold nipped at your cheeks and turned them red, always giving you an excuse to wrap up in blankets and drink excessive amounts of hot drinks.
you tipped your head slightly, your eyes now roaming for something to create thought, and something did once you came to realization after studying the nice interior of the truck; clean, no sign of dirt anywhere. it smelt nice, even as jj's hockey bag was thrown in the backseat, which was unusual because the smell of sweat was always so distinct, even on your own bag, and you would consider yourself a cleanliness person.
jj was from the cut. you knew him and you knew who his friends were. you felt like an asshole thinking it but you have known him since third grade, when he had came in late on the first day with dirt staining his shirt and face. he was no stranger to fun and you were sometimes envious of it, having the ability to let go and not think.
so why was his truck so clean? you knew but you still asked;
"why do you live with ward?"
he seemed to tense a little, his grip on the wheel tightening while readjusting himself. his other hand no longer held the gear shift but was rather now running a hand through his hair, an audible exhale fizzling past his lips.
maybe you shouldn't have asked...
as well as knowing jj had the nature of letting loose and having no care, you were also aware of his rough home life with his father, something rafe had told you, something you wished you hadn't known.
"never mind, uh sorry-"
"no, no," he shook his head, shooing away your apology, "it's fine. not that big of a deal anyways."
silence and then...
"i've never really had.. anything," he rubbed his lips together, hesitant with whether or not he should be telling this to you, which he knew deep down that he probably shouldn't, but he wanted to, he wanted someone to know. "never anything to anyone until ward. he saw something in me that nobody saw and it was like finally someone cared. that's why i live with him.. i don't have to think about anything, worry about anything anymore because he runs my whole life and there's something comforting about that."
you watched him as he talked, trying his best to explain it while clenching and unclenching his fist around the black leather wheel, keeping a strong focus on the road due to not wanting to look at you.
"but i had to shape up and there's nothing wrong with a little discipline," he tilted his head a little, saying these words as if reminding himself of this. it made your chest tighten as you watched him a little closely with sympathetic eyes, but you weren't sure why.
the dinner rehearsal started at 6:30, giving you and jj an hour to find a black dress for the scout party. the two of you had been at it for already an hour and neither of you could find what you were looking for. but mostly because half the time the two of you were screwing around, trying on things that weren't even black nor a dress. sharing stupid hockey gossip, and even giving each other pointers.
you would have never thought you would ever been hanging out with jj on your free time or even finding joy in his company. it was unusual to say the least, almost wrong, but you couldn't find the nerve to care as you sat across from him in the waiting area of the dressing room.
"you going to try on those dresses or not?" he motioned toward the pile of black dresses the two of you had randomly compiled together before entering into the private area.
"i don't know."
"we got like half an hour before i have to drop you off and get you ready," he checked his phone before looking back up to you, giving you a pointed look. "i should've asked if you can get ready fast."
"i can."
"try on a dress."
you huffed before pulling yourself up to your feet, grabbing onto the pile before walking into the little room meant for changing. the first dress was a no-go right off the bat, the second one didn't even cover half your chest, and the thrid-
"you gonna let me see or not?" jj had himself propped up against the dressing room doorframe by his elbow, waiting for you to finally show him one of the many dresses the two of you had picked out.
"hold on," you slightly mumbled, extending your arm behind you, attempting to reach the zipper.
"i thought you said you got ready fast."
you opened the dressing room door with a annoyed frown, something that quickly lost its effect once you became taken aback when looking up to jj who had a smirk on his face, practically crammed up against you with how close he was leaned up against the doorframe. you huffed, losing the shock while holding the front of the dress tightly against your chest in fear of it slipping.
"i need you to zip me up."
"what?" jj looked caught off guard, now looking you up and down, almost not understanding your question till you turned around, revealing the low zipper the stopped right before your butt. he still looked shocked as his eyes met yours in the body length mirror placed in the center wall of the dressing room before traveling down toward the zipper. "this the dress i picked out?" he coughed, hesitantly clasping the small piece of plastic.
you hummed in reply, diverting your eyes to the ground as the feeling of his knuckles slowly dragging up the middle of you back made your stomach twist into knots. you held your breath as you connected the coldness to the silver ring he wore on his pointer finger.
you could hear him exhale as well the moment the zipper was pulled all the way to the top and he made sure to take a wide step away from you before fully looking you in the eyes. you turned to face him, giving him a lopsided smile before he finally spoke, "looks good."
that was the dress you chose.
°•
"you're late," ward was on jj the moment he had walked through the front door with his hand tightly gripping the boy's bicep, attempting to guide him away and fast toward his room upstairs where you were sure a more formal outfit was laid out for him.
you clenched your jaw as your presences seemed to have been completely shrugged off as you were left at the front door alone.
after you had bought the black dress, jj drove you home to allow you to change. you wore a short purple dress that had practically knocked the breath out of jj due to him never seeing you in anything but your hockey gear and clothes that tended to cover you whole. you had to bite back a smirk.
the whole backyard must have been where everything was being hosted due to that being where everyone was mingling. it made you feel sort of out of place which was rather unusual since you had a the tendency to fit right in when it came to events like these. you had to.
"really went through with it, huh?"
you glanced back to see rafe holding a glass of alcohol. he was dressed up in a button up just like the rest of the boys were with slack pants. you grinned over to him with a slight tip of your head, "you look like a douche."
he scoffed, giving you a look up and down, "okay, princess." he threw back the rest of his drink before setting it down on a table. he shoved his hands in his pockets before strolling to your side, "i thought you were going to keep your dignity and not take his deal."
you shrugged, "i really want to win best player."
"so you're going to fuck him for it?"
you rolled your eyes before planting an elbow to his ribs, "don't be an ass. i've wanted this since elementary school and i think i can get it if jj steps down."
rafe only hummed.
you hadn't seen jj in over a half an hour, and after talking to rafe for what seem like ten minutes, but was really longer, he reminded you of your date. you had lowly swore to yourself before looking around and not finding him until you had walk to the long stretched dock where you found him lighting a blunt.
"a bit of a bad time for that, don't you think?"
he looked back at you with a raised brow as if daring you to stop him, but you only joined his side, planning on keeping your mouth shut until he spoke to you himself.. which seemed unlikely with the only sound filling the air being the waves crashing against the dock and him inhaling and exhaling smoke.
"you mad or something?"
he didn’t say anything but instead kept his eyes trained on the setting sun. the sky swarmed with orange, it made your chest fill with warmth despite beginning to feel uneasy about jj’s now silent demeanor. it didn’t feel right.
you took a step closer to him, trying to get a better look at his face in attempt to get a read on him, but you only felt your stomach drop as your hands couldn’t help but reach for both sides of his face, pulling him to face you.
“jj,” you half gaped, your eyes wide and wild as you had your gaze set upon the newly placed bruise on his cheekbone. “who?”
“who do you think?” he took one last intake before flicking the blunt into the water. his face was warm and seemed to have seeped into your finger tips as they practically cradled his face. “y/n.”
your head tilted from side to side as you tried to gather and look for other bruises or cuts or anything that connected to harm- you couldn’t even think or focus until his own hands grasped your wrists, now making sure you were looking him in the eyes, which were wide themself.
“it doesn’t matter,” he wanted you to understand that, but he knew you wouldn’t with how disappointed you seemed to be at his words, your face falling and slowly loosing your grip. “doesn’t matter, okay?
“you must be stupid if you think i’m going to believe that,” you let go of him, slowly backing away with a deep frown etched into your face. “jj-”
“hockey puck-”
your face fell deeper into despair, “don’t you fucking dare.” your face turned into a scowl and you raised your hand, “that stupid- jj you-”
“everything going alright down here?”
your eyes interchanged toward ward who appeared out of nowhere, with a cautious demeanor. you eyes his closely as he approached the two of you closer with his steps slow and eyes full of hesitation as he scoped out the situation, very aware that something was off.
“yeah, everything’s fine,” jj’s voice was quiet as he stared at you, almost signaling for you to keep your mouth shut with the way his eyes slightly widened. “i have to take y/n home.”
ward nodded, understandably with his hands stuffed into his dress pants pockets, “okay.”
you begun to walk before jj did with your hands tightly gripped in fists, mind racing but not knowing what to think. only anger.

about. you and jj don’t have the best relationship, but who’s to say that can’t change?

warnings. foul language
ricky rocks. i didn’t edit this at all
during the summer at the chateau, you almost never saw jj with a shirt on.
which you couldn’t complain about, especially when he was conducting yard work—or anything that’d make him sweat… anything that’d make his tan skin glow and his muscles flex as he put in the work.
but the only thing was… he was a fucking asshole.
during the first summer of freshman year, jj was still unable to drive, as well as all the other pogues—except you. and because of that, you were responsible for driving jj to and from jobs. it wasn’t your first choice, but in order to keep the chateau up and running, the bills needed to be payed.
“this your daddy’s truck?”
you watched him through the review mirror pull down the tailgate to load up the junky old lawn mower that was almost out of it’s time. he then moved to the passenger door, yanking it open.
“it’s mine.”
“really?” his eyebrows raised in surprised, hopping into the seat while wiping the sweat from his forehead with his white teeshirt. “this piece of shit?”
“i don’t see you with a car, maybank,” you pulled the car into drive, now beginning to make your way back to the cut.
“it’s not by choice,” he rolled his eyes while extending his arm across the seat.
“what, failing your drivers test three times was?”
“shut the fuck up.”
sophomore year didn’t get any better. if anything, that’s when jj reached peaked douche bag and the only thing that came out of his mouth was insults and foul language—all directed toward you.
“you are such a bitch.”
everyone winced, making sounds of booing at jj’s harsh words. you all sat around the campfire, savoring some of the few moments left of summer while discussing school and graduating when you had made a joke on half of you most likely not graduating—hence jj calling you a bitch.
you glanced at him, awkwardly laughing as you tipped your beer back, “relax, it was just a joke.”
“struck a nerve,” pope hummed lowly, snuggling closer into the hammock he sat in as if wiggling away from the obvious tension that suddenly hit each and every one of you just from jj.
“no kidding.”
“i just think how funny it is that y/n always has some dumb shit to say whenever we be hanging out like this,” he raised his hands in defense, shaking his head. “i’m just saying.”
“jj, it’s not that deep,” kie looked at him with narrowed brows, obviously as confused as the rest of you—to which he shuts up and mumbles a sorry, but to her.
not you.
junior year, jj was barely a person to you nor were you to him. you were lucky if he even said a word to you within the week—which really didn’t happen at all unless john b sent him to do so in order to remind you of rent or something that had to do with facilities.
he treated you like you weren’t a person, like you were never there, and you couldn’t tell if that was better or worse than previous years treatment.
probably better… until it seemed you were almost cut off, not only from him but from the whole group.
before, you had an idea of jj; what he did, what he liked, what he found funny, and what the inside jokes were. now, it seemed that you didn’t know him at all, he wasn’t a person you knew, but the rest of the pogues did. they knew all the inside jokes, all his problems, his accomplishments and you didn’t.
“you shouldn’t care, y/n,” pope told you as the two of you hauled equipment to and from a boat for your employers. “jj has been nothing but a dickhead to you, i’d think this would be a blessing on your end.”
“yeah,” you hummed, “but it’s like not only am i cut out of his life, but your guys’ too. i have nothing to contribute when the conversation turns in his direction, y’know? i know nothing about what you guys are talking about sometimes.”
pope sighs. you weren’t wrong. there was many points in times where you’d go completely silent due to the conversation leading to times where all the pogues hung out without you, making it hard for you to communicate—your presence was completely useless at that point.
“yeah, i’m sorry about that,” he scratches the back of his neck, thinking deeply about the situation. there truly was nothing he could do about it at all, but he still felt sympathy for you. “perhaps you could talk to him about it.”
“you’re kidding,” you narrowed your brows, practically dumbfounded at his suggestion. “pope that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard come out of your mouth.”
he smiles, “well, looks like i’m no help.”
senior year. senior year was something strange.
jj was a totally a different person to the point you were wondering whether or not if you were high half the time you saw him.
different person as in he was nice.
it technically started the summer before senior year when things became very pressurized and shitty for you due to your parents. they had a sudden striking interest in your life upon discovery that you were doing rather well for a pogue in school.
you could get out, do something with your life.
it was known since you could remotely process anything that your parents didn’t care. you grew up alone, discovered things alone, taught yourself things that they didn’t, and swore to become a better person than both of them combined—just not to end up like them.
they showed up, multiple times unannounced at the chateau. their presence was… intense to say the least. they had no problem invading or doing things that could cause more problems just to get what they wanted.
and the day they showed up, was also the first day jj had ever touched you with an announce of affection.
you had been in your room, browsing through your computer when yelling begun to echo throughout the home. you took a step out into the hall, crossing paths with john b. who shared the same confused look.
“jj out there by himself?”
“not seeming like it.”
he stood there, shovel in hand as he spoke to a couple, or rather yelled at a couple, “she doesn’t live here!”
“then where is she?”
“right here.”
the couple immediately spun around to face you, your mothers face uplifting as she immediately walked to you, “my baby!”
“you should have stayed inside, i was covering for you.”
that’s what surprised you, the fact that he was covering for you and didn’t even think to give you up. but you supposed everyone in your group knew how crazy your parents were.
“it’s fine, i’ll deal with it,” you marched passed your mother, walking toward their vehicle. they had no choice but to follow you. “what’re you doing here?”
“we’ve come to get you, sweetheart.”
“why?”
and they explained why, only heavily sugar coating it. you were being lied to and it made your body ache in sadness. yeah, you didn’t need your parents, but it still would have been nice to have them and it sucked to be used.
“you okay?” jj stood in the doorway, watching them finally pull out and drive away after half an hour of arguing and seeing you getting practically screamed at in your face.
“yeah,” you looked up at him with confused eyes, wondering why he was even asking. it didn’t help your state with your heart still swelled up with hurt. he could see it, he was familiar with it, and he felt a very heavy wave of emotions consume him once looked down at you.
“you sure?”
“yes.”
he didn’t believe you.
jj stepped out of the doorway, allowing you to step by him and back to your room where you could sulk, but before you could fully close yourself up, he called after you.
“don’t let them get into your head,” you watch his hand grab your shoulder in slow motion before squeezing it, giving you a sympathetic look before passing you by and walking to his room.
you couldn’t get that out of your head. that one simple touch, it’s all you could think about for the next week till he replaced it with another and another and another.
nothing could beat good skin on skin contact, even with no deep meaning behind it.
what the fuck.
he actually talked to you, looked at you, touched you, smiled at you. and none of it made sense. why now?
you weren’t the only one who noticed it either.
“so, jj and you seem to be… good,” pope was careful with his wording, not sure how to take on this matter in the first place.
“yeah,” you said plainly, not knowing how to speak on it either, but not really wanting to speak on it at all; you still couldn’t believe it.
“you guys friends now?”
“i don’t know.”
“did you guys talk or something?”
“jj and i talk?” you scoffed. “i’m sorry but we’re not that resolved.”
“right,” he laughs a little, “maybe he’s having a self-realization period, and has figured out that you’re a lot cooler than he originally thought.”
you laugh lowly, shaking your head, “well, whatever it is, it’s strange, but i guess i can’t complain.”
yeah, you really couldn’t. especially when the small touches turned into something much, much more affectionate.
“you ever… think about leaving this place?”
“all the time,” you stare up at the stars from the hammock you laid in, answering jj’s question without a second thought.
“i mean, not the cut, i mean here, the chateau.”
you narrowed your brows at the question, not understanding the meaning behind this question, if there even was one, “no, why? are you planning on kicking me out?”
he scoffs, shaking his head from across the fire, “no, never. wouldn’t ever do that.”
“doesn’t seem like that sometimes,” you say it but immediately bite your tongue, knowing you shouldn’t have. you had nothing against jj anymore, even as the whole reason for him being so suddenly nice has gone unresolved—you’ve learned to ignore. “or, i mean-“
“i know what you mean.”
it’s silent.
occasions where you and jj are left alone are very frequent, especially ones where the two of you are actually talking. even if you have forgotten about his past hostile attitude, you were still cautious and kept your walls up just in case he dropped his new righteous self at any moment.
jj was very self aware. he knew exactly why you were so hesitant on creating any kind of bond between the two of you, and he understood and he didn’t exactly quite disagree with that.
there was a large amount of time where all he could think about was how much of a shitty person he was to you and he honestly couldn’t forgive himself for that. he wasn’t a good person, he knew that. he just wanted to better himself while he still could.
the silence is interrupted with the sound of shuffling and jj slides into the hammock, right next to you. you’re shocked to say the least to the point you don’t even say a word to disagreement with the daring move.
“i’m sorry.”
a single sentence. a single sentence that make your chest tighten and your whole body freeze in surprise.
“for what?”
“for being such an asshole to you for the past three years,” he mumbles, his eyes darting between star to star, nervously. “i want to be your friend, y/n,” he looks to you and look back at him with your mouth slightly opened. “i want to talk to you without it being weird, i want to be able to look at you without feeling guilty, i want to be able to… touch you.”
inhale.
“i want to be familiar with your name, i want to be able to say it without holding myself back.”
exhale.
“i understand if… you don’t want that, hell i probably wouldn’t, but i realized i caused a large problem and i want to fix it. i want you to know i’m sorry.”
i’m sorry.
crazy. you felt absolutely crazy sitting this close to him, to the point you were sitting on his lap and falling for his apology. after years of living with his hostile environment, of hating him, wanting to punch him in the face, and stay as far as you could away from him—you were giving in after such a simple apology.
“jj?”
“y/n?”
“you owe me if i forgive you.”
his eyes strayed from yours for a minute, thinking, thinking hard on what you mean before looking back to you, nodding slowly, “okay..”
“good,” you nodded, carrying yourself to knees, now scooting to the of the hammock. “i’ll see you in the morning.”
**
“you know you could really get out of here, right?”
“why are you so set on trying to get rid of me lately?” you glance at jj from across the boat where you sat with your feet dangling over the edge, watching the deep blue to sit calmly. “i see, you don’t want to owe me something.”
he rolls his eyes, “yes, but no.” he also watches the water as well. the two of you were supposed to be catching food for dinner but after the past hour becoming repetitive of catching nothing, you decided to give up and just enjoy the sun as it still lowly hung in the sky. “you’re smart, y/n. like pope smart.”
“well now you’re just sweetening me up,” your tone is dry but he can tell your highly amused as you now crawl toward him.
“i’m serious.”
“i know.”
“good.”
it’s quiet now. you both stare at your feet as the cold water kisses the tips of your toes, staying calm with hardly any movement. it was a perfect moment; the now setting sun, the cool weather, his words, the location, everything.
you laid your head against jj’s shoulder, thinking, “jj.”
“yeah?”
“kiss me.”
“what?” you stutters like he doesn’t hear you correctly and his body suddenly tenses.
“you owe me, kiss me.”
he looks stunned once you both fully look at each other. he’s not sure if you’re joking or even pulling one on him just to embarrass him for every past inconvenience between the two of you.
you press your lips against his and to your surprisal he kisses you back with no problem. his hand lightly cups the side of your face as you both continued to move your lips against one another—until you pushed him into the water.
you almost fall in with him too, but you stabilize yourself fast and you can’t help but grin as he resurfaces fast with a just as stunned face when you asked him to kiss you.
“we’re even now, maybank.”

about. jj pays you one last visit.

warnings. swearing
ricky rocks. finally finished 🥳🥳🥳 this is also a THIRD repost, because it wouldn’t let me edit the last one 😢
you had won the best player award. jj had stepped down and you didn’t even have to fulfill your side of the deal.
there was a part of you that felt very guilty for not showing up for him, but another part of you that knew you deserved this and it probably didn’t effect jj as largely as you originally thought. ward probably had girls lined up for him and your absence was probably no surprise after what you had saw.
“i honest to god don’t believe you’ll need this many clothes,” rafe grumbles, helping you stuff a bag full of just your shirts. you glanced over to him, laughing to yourself as you packed another bag for your pants. “i mean c’mon, y/n, after the first week you’re not even going to have enough energy to change your pants.”
“whatever rafe,” you shook your head, “i actually care for personal hygiene and looking my best, unlike you—who i could smell the beer off of when you came home for break.”
“oh, boohoo, give me a break, sweetheart. some of us actually know how to have some fun,” he mocked you, setting the bag down before grabbing another. “big surprise, it’s not you.”
you roll your eyes. maybe asking rafe to help you pack for college was a mistake, especially since it wasn’t even twenty minutes in and he was shitting on you.
“hey, y/n/n! someone’s at the door for you!”
you got to your feet at the sound of your mothers words, sharing a look with rafe before you exit your room and toward the front door, “who is it..?”
your question fades the moment jj comes into view and suddenly your mouth is a steel trap in surprisal of the sight of him. you hadn’t expected to see jj after hockey season, not after all these months, but there he was with his hands stuffed in his jean jacket and a sheepish smile that made your stomach flutter.
“long time no see, hockey puck.”
“jj,” his name comes out breathless from your mouth like you had been winded, and it’s almost like you were. “come in?”
“that a question?”
“no,” you smile crookedly, motioning him further into the house. “just come in.”
he slowly strolls to your living room where you follow behind, expecting him to take a seat, but he only stops in the door frame, turning back to face you, “how are you doing, kid?”
“i should be asking you that.”
he scoffs, almost wincing at the tone of your voice and knowing exactly what you’re referring to, “listen, i didn’t come here to make small talk.”
“sounded like you were.”
“okay,” he sighs, already regretting coming to your home, kicking himself for thinking it’d be so easy to talk to you after all this time of distance and tension just waiting to fill the space between the two of you again. “are you happy?”
“what?” you narrow your brows at the question.
“are you happy?” he repeats, “the award ceremony shit—i’m happy for you, proud of you, really.”
you feel your face burn, suddenly looking to the floor at realization of what he was saying. you felt guilty as well as flattered at his kind words falling out of his mouth without a problem. he was being genuine, but something about it still made you feel… ashamed.
“you got what you worked hard for, y/n. should be proud yourself.”
“yeah…” you still stared at the ground, “thanks jj.”
“still disappointed you didn’t show up.”
there is was.
“i wanted to, you should know i did. but i couldn’t,” your eyes move fast to meet his, feeling remorse, but he doesn’t seem sad, or disappointed, or even mad when he looks back at you. it almost looks like he understands, like he doesn’t really care that much. “i would have socked that man in the face of i had to see him again.”
he laughs dryly, slightly shaking his head, “would have loved to see that.”
“probably best it didn’t happen. wouldn’t have wanted to ruin your chances at one of the perfect little colleges he has set up for you.”
“what have i told you before, kid?” his arms slight reach out from his sides in expression. “i’m set for life, no matter how hard i fuck up.”
you shake your head, thinking about how true it was. jj was hooked up way before hockey season even ended.
“when do you leave?” you mumble.
“tomorrow, actually,” he stuffs his hands in his pockets, not satisfied with the answer he gave you either. he just wished he had more time.
shit.
it’s silent now and your whole body feels itchy with uncomfortableness. jj’s eyes are tightly focused on the ground once more, his eyebrows furrowed as if he’s frustrated and having a mental battle with himself in thought.
you watch him carefully, but you want to look away in fear of him catching you shamelessly staring. your drawn to the confusion on his face, to every emotion that crosses his features. he’s almost red in the cheek from shame but you can’t understand why.
“you know, i remember when i first met you…” he laughs a little, cutting himself off. “oh god, the guys would talk about you all the time and how crazy it was that they let a girl on a team… and then i was like ‘hey… i know that girl.’”
“you had always wore those pink barrette things,” he motions to his blonde strands, “so i was shocked to see you kicking our asses that first game.”
“and the second.”
he scoffs, nodding, “and the second.”
you hate the space between the two of you right then. you hate how antsy he is and the way he moves only seems to put more distance between you.
“point is, i’m happy for you… and even if you’re not allowed… to play in college, i’m glad you got that scholarship. you deserve it, all of it.”
oh.
after getting the award and finishing out the season and school—your doubts were getting the best of you about getting a scholarship or even playing in college. like jj had said before, scouts were misogynistic and they weren’t going to change their opinions on girls playing a boys sport. not for any, not for one.
thankfully, colorado was your saving grace—handing you a scholarship, not exactly a spot on the team—but the promise of consideration when time gets there. which everyone really knew what that meant—no.
“thank you, jj,” your eyes fall to the ground. “it’s a shame that i’ll never be able to kick your ass again though,” you shake your head in disappointment, a loud hearty laugh ringing through your ears as jj throws his head back.
“yeah, you wish, sweetheart,” he shakes his head himself at the ridiculousness in your statement. “you’re good, but not that good.”
“yeah, you want to bet, maybank?” your head tips back in a challenging manner, arching a brow.
“give me a time and place, hockey puck, i’ll be there.”

cup pong.
pairings. frat boy!jj maybank x fem!reader
about. jj needs a cup pong partner

warnings. drinking, swearing, gif not mine
ricky is typing… marry late christmas cowboys! love you
you had never experienced a party quite like a frat one with people on the roof and others throwing up within the front bushes that were long dead from previous sick party goers.
it was honestly something like a dream, but not those i-can’t-believe-i’m-actually-here-this-is-so-amazing dreams, but more or so what-the-fuck kind of dream. it didn’t feel real and that was more or so due to the flashing lights coming from the cheap LED plastic thing, shoved in the corner that made everything seem so fast and fake.
you loved it.
you had been there for an hour, speaking with random people and some you had recognized from your classes, while also dancing, because whats a party without some drunken swinging of the hips and grinding on boys you didn’t know.
you found yourself wandering, slipping past people in the homey atmosphere, looking for an invitation of company, but it seemed instead, the invitation found you.
you felt someone yank you by the belt loop of your jeans causing you to drop your drink the minute your back hit the rough surface of someone’s chest. you winced, looking down to the spilled contents of your beer.
you almost pouted if it weren’t for the person who had pulled you back in the first place, flipped you to face them, immediately shoving words into your mouth, “shit, i’m sorry about that, doll,” he eyed you up and down, his tongue quickly swiping across his bottom lip while his hand lightly held your shoulder, “here, let’s get you another drink.”
you felt completely astounded as his back straightened and removed his hand from your shoulder to reach up in the air, his eyes searching the room before landing on someone, “yo pope, get this girl another drink.” you watched a boy in a blue shirt nod before pushing himself off the wall, disappearing toward the kitchen.
you blinked a couple of times, trying to focus on the boy in front of you who seemed way too focused on you in that moment. he had a black hat on, flipped backwards, allowing hair to peak out and dip close to his forehead while he wore a simple plain white teeshirt that smelt of booze and weirdly cherry chapstick.
“you good?”
“yeah,” you coughed slightly, “i’m fine.”
“good,” he slight smiled, patting your back lightly before adjusting his stance.
“yo, jj, you got a partner or not?”
the boy, 'jj', looked at you with a snide smile, “you’re my cup pong partner, what’s your name?”
you replied with your name before mumbling, “i’m not good at cup pong.”
“doesn’t matter,” he pulled you closer by your forearm to where you were front and center to the ping pong table with his hand now on your back, extending his hand out and explaining, “all you gotta do is take a turn and throw the ball, i’ll take care of the rest.”
“what, you some cup pong god?” you turned your head a bit back to get a look of his face and in return his lips twitched a bit upward into a smirk.
“if you wanna call it that,” he shrugs a bit before dragging his eyes from your own before picking up one of the ping pong balls, sending it to the other end of the table and landing in one of the back cups creating cheers to sound in your ears.
jesus christ.
“what was that?”
“what do you mean ‘what was that’?” he smiled slightly at your strained question.
“oh fuck you,” you shook your head before crossing your arms, finding the skill he had absolutely ridiculous.
“your turn, sweetheart,” he smiled sweetly making you frown harder before taking the white ball he offered you.
like you had said before, you weren’t good at cup pong, so when you tossed the ball, it landed no where near any of the nine cups left.
“c’mon, you’re killing me, y/n,” he winced once analyzing the outcome of your shot, “you gotta at least try to aim.”
“i told you i wasn’t good,” you grimaced, licking the inside of your cheek.
“your partner sucks, maybank.”
“hey, why don’t you focus on your own aim, john ole’ boy. the last time i checked, sarah was a better thrower than you,” he stabs his finger through the air toward a boy on the other side of the pong table. the boy, "john", waved him off with an annoyed look before jj looked back down on you. "you suck."
“i thought you were a pro and were ‘going to take care of this’,” you shot back with almost annoyance.
“yeah, but i’m going to need a little more effort.”
“are you two done?”
“just take your shot john b," his voice comes up highly irritated as he calls out to him, but still keeping his eyes on you. "it's easy, alright? watch john b, even as he's absolutely dog shit at pong, he always makes the first shot."
and just like that, the collision of ball to beer fills your ears even over the loud party music. you stare at the cup for awhile before back up to jj who gives you a knowing look; i told you so.
"drink up, sweetheart," he hands you the cup, tapping the bottom the moment you took it. "it's about to be a long game."
jj wasn't wrong. you could tell over time he was slowly regretting even choosing you as a partner, but nevertheless, he was more supportive with each shot you made with light touches against your lower back, adjusting your arm and overall position, drinking half the cups john b or sarah made, and making words of encouragement.
"looks like your partner is draggin' you down, maybank."
"why don't you focus on yourself, she's still doin' better than you when it was your first time," and the defending. "you look like you're sweating pal, because you know i'm right and we're gonna win because you're still trash."
"talk to me when youre actually winning and not down by two."
jj rolls his eyes before focusing back on you, "easy shot, y/n, there's only three cups left, all you got to do is aim for one of the back ones... easiest ones, you got it."
you stare at him for a moment like he was insane because you truly hadn't made more than one tonight, so how was he expecting you to straighten up now?
"don't worry about it, kid. we lose, we lose, but it'd be really nice if we won."
no pressure.
you straighten your back with the roll of your shoulders once inline with the middle of the table. you try your best to envision the best possible way to shoot the ball, but honestly, you didn't even know what you were looking for to make a perfect shot.
jj's hand lands on your back, as if providing reassurance to your success. you relax to this and allow the ball to release from your hold. it's like slowmo as you watch it travel across the table till it lands right in the front red solo cup with a clash.
"yes!" you feel jj rush against you, almost knocking you over if it weren't for his arms to wrap around you entirely like a steel trap of excitement. "let's go, baby! that's exactly what i'm talking about, y/n!"
he gives you a light shake of endearment before replacing your spot in front of the table and, of course, making it right into the cup.
"balls back!" he motions for a ball to which one is bounced his way, but before he can make another perfect shot, john b frantically waves his arm in the air.
"it's not your turn, maybank. it's your partner's."
you can tell the blonde boy winces at this before slowly turning to you. he wasn't going to argue this because he knew john b was right and it was your turn and you'd have to take it whether you wanted to or not.
you shared the same distraught look he had on his face once he extended his arm out to you to take the white plastic ball soaked in beer. you took it and he gave you a sympathetic look, like this was the worst thing in the world.
"you got it, kid."
"yep."
you didn't. you barely came close. and any second chances you'd get were thrown out the window once sarah made it perfectly into their last cup, deeming you and jj the losers.
"shit," you bit into your bottom lip, feeling bad and almost not wanting to face jj in fear of the disappointed look he'd probably have on his face.
it was strange; this was only a dumb drinking game and jj was only someone you met less than ten minutes ago, so why did you get a terrible taste in your mouth and a feeling that you had just let him down.
"well, you definitely need more practice," he propped his hands on his hips as he thinks, "but you're not terrible."
you turn, slightly amused, "well, thanks."
he returns a slight grin, "yeah," he wipes his mouth, "so, what now?"
you now fully maneuver your body to face his with all attention, "I believe you owe me a drink."

Falling For A Maybank

Summary: Based on the song Falling In Love x Night Troubles.
Requested: No.
Warnings: Underage Drinking, Language, Underage Smoking, Some Angst
Well now really when we go back into falling in love. And say, it's crazy.
“Madam,” JJ says, his hand reaching out to gently grasp onto yours.
He gently lifts you onto John B’s boat from the docks, the cheekiest grin etched onto his tanned face. It’s infectious, causing you to mimic that same grin as you put down the cooler in your hand.
“Thank you, my good sir,” you reply, giggling softly as you handed him a beer.
“Ooo, my favourite,”
His fingers tickle yours as he gently takes the beer from you, goosebumps travelling up your arm at a rapid rate. But you shake it off, taking a step back from him as your smile slightly disappears. It was a trap to like him, the guy with a new girl in his bed every night.
“So? Where are we off to today?” you ask to no one in particular.
“Probably just back to the marshes, after that hurricane last night there is surely more fish ripe for the fishing,” John B replies as he drives off into the water.
Softly, you nod, pulling a beer out of the same cooler that rocks against the boat’s floor. As soon as the top meets your lips, almost half of it’s contents disappeared within a few minutes. Maybe under the influence you could calm your nerves, finally enjoy yourself for the first time in weeks.
As soon as your butt hits the seat beside Kie, a knowing eyebrow of hers raises up to meet her hairline.
“Oh, god, Kie, not again,” you mumble quiet enough for only her to hear.
“C’mon, (Y/N)!” she whisper yells. “There is obviously something between you two.”
You take another long sip from your beer bottle, trying to avoid looking straight but you do. His eyes meet yours, that classic grin returning at the sight of you. Instead of returning the smile, you quickly turn away, swallowing the bitter liquid down hard.
“No, no it’s crazy,” you reply softly.
Falling. You see? We don't say "rising into love". There is in it, the idea of the fall.
You both were walking on the beach where the water meets the sand. It had been a long night at a graveyard party. Watching JJ constantly flirt from girl to girl didn’t hurt any less then it did before. How you ended up walking down the beach, only the moon’s light cascading across your faces, you still didn’t know.
“(Y/N), it’s a brilliant idea!” he exclaims as he chuckles. “We just need a fuck ton of weed and paper.”
“And probably an ambulance from overdosing,” you giggle softly.
“No such thing,”
“You will be the first person to make it happen, JJ, I can see it now,”
“I feel high all the time, (Y/N/N),"
Your heat flutters at his special nickname for you, forcing your gaze down at your feet to hide your warm blush against the cool light.
“Well I can’t doubt that, now can I?”
Both of you fall back into a fit of laughter. Before you know it, you’re in front of the small shack you call home. None of the lights were on since your family had already retired to bed. You stop by your door, gently twisting the doorknob to open the door. Once you look up however, you’re met with bright blue eyes and long blonde hair tickling the tip of your nose.
If your heart could fly into space it would. You willed your feet to move backwards but they never did. Instead, you were frozen, looking into the eyes that brought you warmth, the hair your fingers had been tangled in many times.
“Goodnight, (Y/N/N),” he whispers softly, kissing your forehead before disappearing down your street.
You could deny it all you want, but deep down you knew. You had risen into love.
And it goes back, as a matter of fact, to extremely fundamental things. That there is always a curious tie at some point between the fall and the creation. Taking this ghastly risk is the condition of there being life.
You couldn’t take it anymore, constantly watching him flirt with other girls, having to help them find their clothes strewn across the Chateau the next day. You just couldn’t take it.
So, you withdrew. No longer were you on their boating trips. No longer did you show up to boneyard parties. Everyone would text you, wondering where you were. All of them get a response, except for him.
It angered him. All of the Pogues tried to comfort him, saying that she must have texted them all on accident. But he saw right through it. You were ignoring him, and he didn’t know why. He has to know why.
Without the other Pogues knowing, he snuck away and was on his way to your house when he passed the park you played at when you were kids. When he first fell in love with you. A bunch of boys had ganged up on you. Despite the beating he got, the boys left you alone from that day on. You took him home, cleaned up his wounds, both from the boys and his dad, and promised that you would be quiet as long as you two stayed friends. It had started back at the fundamental things.
JJ knocks lightly against your window, a frown forming when he notices that you aren’t drawing the blinds for him like you usually do. He knocks again, and again, until you open the blinds and lift the window out of pure annoyance.
“What do you want, JJ?” you mumble under your breath.
“Why are you ignoring me?”
“I’m not ignoring you! I just need to be alone,”
“Alone from me?”
“Yes from you!”
You look at him with tears falling down your face. The sight of it almost sends JJ into tears himself.
“Fine, then, I’ll leave you too it,”
And with a harsh sigh, he jumped off your window and was gone.
You see, for all life is an act of faith and an act of gamble.
You had recently come back to the group, pretending like nothing was wrong. But JJ knew something was, however after that day in your room he refused to speak with you. Kie had talked with you many times, to just take the leap already and tell him. And you promised you would...
The moment you take a step, you do so on an act of faith because you don't really know that the floor's not going to give under your feet.
You, Pope, and JJ had infiltrated the Midsummer Ball for the Kooks with ease, posing as waiters for all those who couldn’t see over their nose to get it themself. Your eyes couldn’t stay off of JJ the entire night. It became too overwhelming once JJ had returned from giving the note to Sarah. Without a second thought, you pull him close to you by the collars of his jacket, and you kiss him.
The moment you take a journey, what an act of faith. The moment that you enter into any kind of human undertaking in relationship, what an act of faith. See, you've given yourself up. But this is the most powerful thing that can be done: surrender. See. And love is an act of surrender to another person. Total abandonment. I give myself to you. Take me. Do anything you like with me.
Without a second in between, JJ kisses you back and his arms hold your frame against his tightly. Once both of you come up for air, uncontrollable smiles grace both of your faces.
“JJ! (Y/N)! We gotta go!” Pope yells as the Pogues make their escape.
JJ runs after them with his hand around yours while you follow. Both of you grin ear to ear as you run towards the van. Without a second thought, JJ lifts you up by your hips and gets you into the van, sliding in right beside you. Once he was in beside you, he lifts you onto his lap, kissing you once more as your hands frame his face, kissing him back urgently.
“Fuckin’ finally!” Pope yells at you, causing both of you to break apart and glare at him.
“Just keep the PDA down why don’t ya?” Kie replies to Pope.
In response, you two kiss once more, making sure to add a moan or two in there to make your point.
coming attraction

request: first time giving jj head??
summary: it’s pretty hot in the Outer Banks. that’s not the only thing that’s getting hot though.
pairing: JJ Maybank x Reader
word count: 1.2k
warnings: oral sex. JJ wears banana boxers. that is all i will say ;) big love.
You clumsily remove your shirt from your body and lay back down on your bed. You’ve been restless and fidgety all day.
“It’s hot,” you complain to JJ, who already has his shirt off and is laying on his stomach at the end of your bed. One of your pillows is fluffed under his head, and he tries his best to take a midday nap. It’s not working.
“Uh, I think you mean, ‘I’m hot’.” He clarifies, tilting his head to look over at you. You watch him notice your tank top and discarded shirt.
“You’re right, I am hot,” you agree, before groaning and pouting at JJ. He scoffs playfully.
“What do you want me to do about it?” He asks, and you move to lay down next to him, on your back. You mumble something that sounds like ‘I dunno’, and sigh.
It doesn’t take long for you to accidentally fall asleep in the Outer Banks heat. The sun was hot on your face when you woke up, meaning you hadn’t slept for that long, and JJ was still asleep next to you, his arm cushioning his head on the pillow, turned away from you. You smile at the fact that he’s still here, and that you two were close enough that he could just nap in your presence, and not have it be weird. You sit up next to him and shake him so that he’d wake up.
He grumbles before he shifts a little in his sleep.
“Stop it,” he murmurs, “That hurts.”
“Get uppp,” you whine, and he jerks a little so you’d get off of him. He turns to look at you again.
“No, ‘m tired.” He says softly. You roll your eyes.
“Sleep when you’re dead. I’m bored.”
He flips his head again, presumably to fall back asleep, but you’re not having it.
“JJ.” You demand.
“Yeah. Right now isn’t… the best time for me to get up,” he says.
You give him a quizzical look.
“What? Why?”
“I got a problem.” he says. He shoves his face into the pillow and mutters something else.
“What problem?” You ask, amused. You sit up and cross your legs, rocking back and forth a little bit.
“Hmph,” he sounds. You poke him in the side and he shifts his weight, shoving his hands underneath his body.
Your eyes widen with recognition, and you laugh.
“What?” he says, face tinting pink.
“Nothing,” you clarify, but keep smiling at him mischievously.
Suddenly, you start to move one hand up his back, fingertips tracing his muscles and tanned skin.
You lightly graze his neck, and you feel the goosebumps that spread over his body at your touch.
“Turn over,” you suggest, and JJ complies, revealing the slight bulge in his pants and tucking his hands behind his head.
It takes a second before you make eye contact with him, but when you do, you notice his bright blue eyes are slightly darker, and his pupils a little bit blown out. He smirks.
Your eyes trail back down to his shorts, and you lean across his legs to unbutton them. He lifts his hips and you shimmy them down to his ankles, but he doesn’t kick them off.
The bright yellow banana print boxers made you smile. You’ve never actually given JJ a blowjob before, but that didn’t seem to deter him in the slightest.
You run your fingernails right under the waistband, and he brings his hands down to his side. Your other hand goes to feel up his thigh and abs. He places his hand on yours, and brings it to cup his bulge, which you can feel is hard, and likely not going away anytime soon.
Squeezing slightly, you get a feel for his dick, and he slides your hand into his boxers. You grab his cock, hot and pulsing. He closes his eyes when that happens, and lets his head fall back onto the pillow. He hums in approval as you start to move your hand in firm strokes. He pulls his boxers down more to free his cock, and you continue to pump it, slowly, with a solid grip.
“Can you, ah… go faster?” he asks, voice breathy as you progress, but you decide to do him one better.
You move your mouth over the tip of his head, red and glistening, and you spit. You watch it run down the side of his cock as you take your tongue to the underside of it, where sensitive veins ran.
His breath hitches and his hips buck slightly at the pressure.
Letting your tongue do most of the work, you lick and press wet kisses to the underside of his dick, using one of your thumbs to flick his wet slit, your hand cupping his shaft.
He lets himself enjoy the attention, eyes still closed and cock still hard. His hand moves to hold the back of your head and you open your mouth and let him fuck up onto your tongue, licking his whole shaft.
You move slightly to straddle his calves, leaning down to bring your tongue back to the head of his dick.
“Oh, fuck that feels good,” he encourages.
You begin slowly, sucking on the tip with hollowed out cheeks and he can’t help himself. He moans and his breath sputters softly.
As you start to bob your head, avoiding teeth and trying not to go down too far, he keeps his hand on your head, encouraging you to take more and more down until his cock touches the back of your throat.
You gag a little and pull back, strings of spit connecting your lips to his cock still.
“Please, don’t stop,” he begs, his neck craned to look down at you, watching your mouth on him.
You decide to take a different approach, and push the tip of his cock back into your mouth, letting him buck up softly into the inside of your cheek.
He groans, and you take him back onto your tongue, towards your throat again, but not too far this time.
“Ah, I’m gonna…” he starts, but whimpers as you pick up the pace.
“I’m cumming, oh fuck, fuck, I’m—”
And you feel his cum pool on your tongue. You decide to swallow it, sucking so that his hips buck again, and he has to grab a fistful of the blanket underneath him to resist from plunging his cock to the back of your throat.
He moans in pleasure, and you pull away, cum still pooling at the tip of his penis. You carefully wipe it away with one hand, and he sits up, grinning.
“Come here,” he says, grabbing your hips and pulling you closer to him forcefully, pressing kisses to your neck.
“No, no, it’s fine,” you protest, wiggling out of his grasp and bending down to wipe his leftover cum on your discarded t-shirt. You had to wash it anyway.
“Aw, come on,” he protests with puppy dog eyes, “that’s not fair.”
“No no, now, you have to do something for me,” you say, and he looks wary of your suggestion.
“Like what?” He asks.
“Like, take a cold shower with me. Because I’m still hot.” You whine, sitting up on the edge of the bed.
“Now that, I can get behind,” says JJ, springing himself off the bed, bare ass naked, in the direction of the bathroom. You admired his body until you couldn’t see him anymore
You hate to see him go, but you love to watch him leave.
He sticks his head out from behind the door frame and stares at you.
“You coming?” He asks.
“I know you’re coming,” you reply suggestively, and he rolls his eyes as you laugh, getting up to follow him.
eye of the storm

request: Hi! Can you do an imagine where the reader is surfing with John B en JJ on a stormy night and she gets hurts/almost drowns?
summary: john b., reader, and jj go surfing during agatha. they get hurt and the boys fuss and care for them.
pairings: jj x reader
word count: 1.5k
warnings: near death experience, near drowning, large cuts
a/n: no super huge romance, just some friendly post trauma kisses. nothin gay about kissin your homies. big love
You shouldn’t have gone with them in the first place, but by the time you realized the tides were too rough for you, for anyone, it was too late.
The waves were frothy white, loud, and gorgeous. It was impossible not to feel tempted by them, by mother nature’s intense beauty. They surged high, rolling in on themselves before pushing in as far as they could onto the beach.
At first, you weren’t going to go in. You were going to stand around, watching them in the cold rain, making sure they didn’t drown or get hurt. It was stupid, you thought, as they blared music in the van, harsh winds and pelting rains sounding loudly against the metal, almost pushing John B. off the road a few times.
But the crash of the waves and the peaks of the crests, the strong pulling of the tide at your bare, sandy feet were too much for you. It courses adrenaline through your veins at an unfiltered rate. The sides of the beach were blown out, so you’d have to stay in the middle. You’d be able to live with that.
As JJ and John B. paddled out into the water, you retreated back to the van, where your board sat, begging to be used in the storm.
Paddling out into the ocean, you feel how intense the current is. You have to duck under many waves before you get one that’s salvageable.
It’s incredible to see through the barrel of the wave, but only for a second, as the wave changes and you’re under the water, eyes and lungs stinging. Your hand catches your board before you go too far down, and you wait the wave out, before pulling yourself onto the board, stomach flat on the hardwood finish and paddling out further. You have to duck under the waves that have already started to swell, but you have a good feeling about one far out, forming in the distance.
You see the break line and you’re off, paddling as hard as you can to catch it before it peaks. Before you know it you’re up on the board, and you make the bottom turn, cutting through the wave like a knife, balanced out and eyes the clearest they’ve been all week. You curve up, and then back in, watching the water crest right in front of you. But the whole wave closes out at the same time and you go under again, water in your eyes and ears. The wave turns you over in the swell, and you start swimming back to the surface.
Only, you’re not. You feel the tug on your leg, and you realize you’re swimming in the wrong direction. Using all your strength, you make it to the top, but are pushed back under in another swell, breathless and disoriented.
You pull your leg up to find your strap, panicking, and climb it up to where your board was, getting pulled viciously toward the beach in another wave. You swim up to the top, finally getting some air, and try to find your board. You pant as you wipe your face, but you can see another wave coming. You go under as it crests right above you, and your lungs sting. You come up coughing.
After the wipe out you don’t realize how close you are to the rocks near the pier until you’re on top of them, scraping your legs and the palms of your hands. The ocean is pure white there, all froth and harsh currents. But it’s not as strong as the waves in the middle. You pull your board into you, and decide you’ve had enough for the day, when you see John B. on the beach, board in hand. You wipe your face again, and sit upright on your board. You survey the water and are surprised to see JJ making his way over to you. His hair is curled over onto his face, almost like a wave itself, his chest bare and his arms moving hard.
“Rocks!” You yell out to caution him, but he’s pulling his board to his chest and ducking under a wave.
He’s almost close enough to hear you when you watch him wince. He must’ve caught himself on a rock.
“You okay?” He yells, and you’re nodding, ready to go back in. He’s by your side and grabbing your arm to keep himself next to you. You grab his knee and feel the waves rock the two of you steadily.
“What happened?” He asks, and you know what he means but it’s too dangerous to hold a conversation out here.
“Let’s go in!” You yell over the swell, and he watches you with concerned eyes for a moment, before he makes you go first. It’s not as bad just riding the waves in, and as soon as you can stand, John B. is in the water, taking your board for you and walking alongside you.
You get to dry sand and rip the velcro off of your ankle. The waves are still loud, but at least now you can hear when John B. tells you, “You’re bleeding.”
You look down and see the culprit: a large scrape down the entire side of your calf, which stings with the salty air. He puts your board down in the sand and kneels down by it to get a better look when JJ makes it in too. He drops his board to the sand and doesn’t even bother unstrapping himself from his board.
“You okay? We saw you wipe out pretty bad,” JJ says, and there’s no pride in his voice. Just concern.
“Yeah, I’m okay, I just cut my leg on the rocks over there,” you say, watching John B inspect the cut.
“I think I have a first aid kit in the car. We have towels too,” John B. informs, and he picks up your surfboard and his own, waiting for you to start walking.
JJ is on you in a second, throwing your arm over his shoulder, his board under his other arm, as his hand wraps around your side. You smile and hobble with him over to John B.’s van.
The walk is silent save for the wind, and is entirely awkward.
“You’re shaking still,” JJ whispers to you as he sits you down on the floor of the van.
“I’ll be fine,” you reply. He moves to the back of the van as John B. starts it up. You wipe your sandy feet carefully on the asphalt before JJ comes back with a towel, pressing it carefully to the cut. You wince.
“Sorry,” he mutters, lifting it off the cut to inspect the blood. He places it gently back down and applies pressure.
“Ugh, JJ stop doing that. I’m gonna pass out,” you tease, but JJ is not laughing. He glares up at you, and you watch him with warm eyes.
John B. enters from the other side of the van and closes the door, surfboards piled up in the back. He looks under the seat and finds an old first aid kit, probably from when his dad bought the van. It’s dusty and yellow and disgusting looking. He sits down behind you and starts going through it. You turn to him.
“If you take anything from there and touch me with it I’m gonna drive home and leave you here,” you say, and JJ chuckles.
“Be careful, man, she’s bleeding. There’s no telling what she’ll actually do,” JJ says, and he tries to tie the towel around your cut. He’s having a hard time.
“Come inside, you’re gonna catch a cold,” you tell JJ, but he ignores you. Until he laughs out loud.
“A hoe never gets cold,” John B. says from behind you, and JJ remarks, “Hey! I was gonna say that!”
You shake your head and roll your eyes.
“That’s not true. I’m freezing,” you tell the boys, and they both laugh, which fades into silence between you three as John B. puts the kit back under the seat and JJ finishes tying the towel.
There’s a radio station playing ads from the front seat.
“Get in. I’ll close the door,” JJ says, and you scoot backwards as he hops into the back, sliding the door behind him. John B. strategically maneuvers his way into the front of the van. JJ sits next to you, inspecting your fingers and bending them, as if to make sure they’re all in working order.
“You scared us, y’know,” John B. comments from the front. You rest your head on JJ’s shoulders as he notices your scratched palms that have since stopped bleeding.
“It’s okay,” you chide, and JJ runs the pads of his fingers over the cuts.
“It’s just a bad wipeout. It happens all the time to you guys,” you explain, and you feel JJ kiss the top of your head. You pull away to look at him, eyes wide, but he’s not looking at you anymore. He’s watching the rain pelt the window on his side. You two should probably be in seats, but it doesn’t matter at this point.
He refuses to look at you, so you don’t make him. Instead, you place your head back on his shoulder, bring his own palm up to your lips, and plant soft, inaudible kisses there.
You feel him smile as John B. takes his time cruising down the highway.
hot and bothered

request: can you write one where jj and the reader have to share a bed at john b’s and jj ends up waking the reader up all hot and bothered? i love your writing so much keep it up!!
summary: jj and reader fall asleep together at john b.’s place. reader isn’t asleep for long when jj wakes them up asking for help with a rather hard problem.
pairings: jj maybank x fem!reader
word count: 1.1k
warnings: vaginal sex, unsafe sex, inexperienced boys, cunnilingus, lots of inappropriate kissing, almost voyeur? I mean they’re fucking on someone elses futon, so…
a/n: WEAR CONDOMS. but... ask and you shall receive ;) this is porn without plot. big love, you animals
Only after 1 AM you realized it was late, when John B. excused himself to bed, making sure you had a blanket for the pullout couch in the living room. You were pretty much passed out as soon as your head hit the pillow, and JJ curled up on the other side of the couch. At least he was liberal with the blanket sharing.
You had woken up in the middle of the night, thinking it was of your own accord. Until you felt JJ from behind, lips lazily on your neck and hands roaming where they shouldn’t be.
“JJ,” you muttered, suddenly very awake.
You listen to him groan as he pushes himself up against you. He’s quite prominently hard in his gym shorts. It helps you know for a fact he’s not wearing underwear. He grinds slowly.
“Will you…” he trails in a whisper, and you answer by pushing back against him. You listen to his breath hitch.
“Don’t wake John B.,” he clarifies, reaching under your arm to wrap his hand around your waist. He squeezes softly.
You take the hand and peel it off you.
You sit up in the dark and JJ follows you, watching in the moonlight as you strip your shirt for him. He moves closer, stroking himself in his shorts and watching as you undo your bra with years worth of expertise. You hear the futon creak as you move to sit on his lap, fully aware of the erection in his pants. He kisses you, hands roaming your skin, playing with the waistband of your own shorts. He kisses hard, biting at your lips and soothing them over with a lick.
You slide off of him and kneel as you pull them down to your knees, and the breeze from a window you couldn’t care less about is cold against your skin. You slip them off and place them somewhere on the bed and arousal pools in your stomach, and you feel yourself throbbing for JJ as you lay on your back.
JJ knows exactly what you want from him, and he lays down in between your legs, tongue eager and cock pulsing.
You fist his hair in your hands and bob his head to a rhythm you create, watching JJ grind against the sheets, hips wide and hands firm on your thighs, calves resting on his shoulders.
He takes his time, sticking his tongue out flat to let you move against him.
Soon the arousal is too much, and it only takes a few quiet minutes before you’re grinding hard and fast, whimpering under his tongue and coming undone at his touch. You cum, throwing your head back against the pillows and you can feel JJ’s wet kisses at your thighs.
He finds his own rhythm against the sheets and you’re afraid he’s going to cum, so you tilt his head up and push him away. His face is wet, and he grins, wiping his lips with the back of his hand. Even in the dark you can make out the obvious tent, until he slips the shorts down to his ankle and struggles to get them off quietly.
“Shhh!” You hush, and he gives you a look that says, “I’m trying!”
He rubs his cockhead over your entrance, teasing, until he slowly slips his head in.
“Relax,” he instructs, leaning over you and gives you a surprisingly gentle kiss. He kisses your cheek and you smile as he rubs his nose over it, a soft eskimo kiss.
He slowly pushed in further.
It stings, but he’s aware of himself, quietly taking his time until he’s all the way in.
You find with each thrust, the makeshift bed creaks, but JJ is so blissed out you expect he doesn’t notice.
“Wait,” you whisper, and JJ stops thrusting.
“What, are you okay?” He says. You clench around him and he whimpers, but doesn’t move. His hands squeeze your hips.
“Lay down,” you instruct, and he slowly pulls out, flips himself eagerly onto the bed. You giggle quietly and hush him, planting your face into his neck and kissing him there. He breathes heavily as you settle back, lining yourself up with his cock, bending over at weird angles to make sure. He runs his fingers through your hair, and you look up at him and smile.
He groans as your hips meet his, legs bent on either side of him. Your hips stutter as you move, slowly grinding back and forth, being careful not to make any noise. You plant your hands firmly by his head.
It doesn’t take long before JJ is forcing his hips up to meet yours, and his breathing shifts.
“Ah, ‘m gonna cum, fuck,” he gasps, hands on your waist. You’re quick to get off of him.
He takes the base of his cock into his hand and continues with the same speed you were going.
“C’mere,” he pleads, and you’re hesitant to take the cockhead into your mouth, but do anyway. It would help with the cleanup after all.
He strokes the base fast, your mouth on just the tip of his cock, and he cums, body tense and hips stuttering and mouth open.
It’s sticky and slimy and just barely salty down your throat, but you swallow, getting rid of most of the evidence in one fell swoop.
“Woah,” JJ says, adjusting himself on the bed, his erection now half hard and lying against his hip. He lifts his head to look for his shorts, and you pass them to him. You realize you don’t even know what time it is. He lifts his hips and slips them on before laying over on his side to watch you get dressed. You don’t bother finding your bra, just slipping the t-shirt on and your shorts. Your underwear would have to be found in the morning. You laid on your side now too, looking at JJ. He smiles.
“Thank you,” he whispers, and you move closer to him. He accepts, and as he lays down on his back, you curl up into him, throwing a leg over his and resting your head on his shoulder.
With the smell of sex in the air, you can only hope you weren’t too loud as you fell asleep peacefully in JJ’s arms, you not as hot, and JJ not as bothered.

You didn’t want to chase him. He was being dramatic.
It would have been so much easier to let him go. To let him storm off.
But having that be the last time you see him before going off to college for the rest of the year? Not happening.
“Jay,” you call out, chasing him out the back door to John B.’s place. He wouldn’t care if you two were there when he was at work.
“Just fuck off. Go get ready.”
“I don’t want to leave you like this,” you say, and he stops.
“If you didn’t want to leave, you wouldn’t. You obviously want to go.”
“I have to go to college. What am I gonna do if I stay here? Mow lawns for kooks for the rest of my life, JJ—”
“The fuck is wrong with that? That’s probably what’s gonna happen to me! So what’s so bad about that—”
“You know I didn’t mean it like that, I just—”
“What’s so bad about staying together, huh? What’s so bad about being with your friends?”
“We’re teenagers, JJ! Do you really think…” You shouldn’t say what you’re thinking, not out loud.
“Think what?
You avoid his gaze. He’s fuming, hard lips and flared nostrils and really, really red ears.
“You think we’re gonna stay together for the rest of our lives, JJ?” You whisper.
You look up at him with sad eyes.
He shakes his head, a sad grin on his face.
“Wow. Alright. Tell me how you really feel—”
“No, you know what I’m saying,” you say, stepping closer to him.
“If you’re saying that you don’t think we could make it, you don’t think we could be friends for the rest of our lives just because you’re moving away to your fancy college, yeah. I do know what you’re saying. And I—I don’t fucking agree.”
“Don’t do this, JJ…”
Your shoulders feel heavy. There’s a knot in your stomach.
“Fuck, don’t you get it?”
“Obviously not, JJ! So why don’t you just tell me about it, instead of—”
“—You’re all I fucking have! I love you! Okay?” He turns from you with fervor and runs his hands through his hair before bringing them to rest on his hips, letting out a sigh and bringing eyes to the sky like he was asking for a reason this all was happening.
“JJ,” you say softly, “you know I love you too.”
He lets out a humorless laugh.
“And you know we can’t, because of—”
“—No pogue on pogue, right, and I don’t want to be the one who messes this up, because I fuckin’ mess everything up! God, dammit!”
You don’t know what to say. He’s so frustrated he collides his foot with a tree, bark flaking off the old oak, with it’s long curly limbs, having been around since you became friends. You used to climb that tree all the time, sit under that tree, sheltering yourselves from the hundred degree weather, talking about how you would build a tree-house with your own bare hands, just the five of you—The Pogues.
How your heart aches for a simpler time, where summer meant tubes of flavored ice and endless cartoons and learning to swim under the hot North Carolinian sun. Where summer didn’t mean you packing up your things and applying to colleges and trying to spend time with your friends who were always busy with jobs or scholarships, supporting themselves full time at sixteen years old. It hurt. Your face stings with unshed tears and you don’t want this to be the last time you see JJ. The last memory you make with him before you go off to some fancy college up North and never come back to the Outer Banks.
You come up from behind him and wrap your arms around him, resting your head on his back. He doesn’t know whether to pull away or lean into it, so he tenses up under your touch.
“You’re the one I go to, man…” he whimpers.
You hold him a little bit tighter.
“You… you help me out. You’re the one who… what am I gonna do without you?”
You two listen to the birds in the trees and feel the warmth of each other.
You pull away after a minute, and your eyes dart around the place before you meet him. His eyes are glossy and dangerously full.
“I don’t want you to leave us,” he mumbles, and his face scrunches up like he’s trying not to cry, but a single perfect tear runs down his cheek. He goes to wipe it away with the back of his hand, but you beat him to it.
He sniffs loudly, hands by his side as you caress his cheeks with your thumbs, wiping away tears and as soon as his eyes become too intense, the sadness there palpable in the atmosphere, you rest your forehead on his cheek, and he cries.
You can’t help but plant soft, inaudible kisses to his face, where the tears are. You bury your nose into his neck and feel your own tears, hot on your cheeks, soak into his shirt.
You pull back to rest your forehead against his, and he leans into you, making it easier.
But he keeps leaning in. And keeps leaning in. Until there’s nowhere else to go, but you don’t really want to be anywhere else and his lips are so close and he smells like honey and boy cologne and mint so you close your eyes and kiss him.
His lips are salty from the tears, but there are nerves in your lips you’ve never felt before. JJ cups your face and you cup his and he’s crying and you’re crying and you never want the kiss to end.
There’s pressure and warmth and butterflies that are landing and taking off in your stomach because this is JJ, your JJ, the same JJ you grew up with and teased and cried to and laughed with. The boy you love more than anything. The boy you would do anything for.
You wish you could preserve the memory of kissing JJ, his skin wet and lips raw from all the biting he does to them.
It’s hard to pull away from him, knowing it would be the last time. You rest your head on his shoulder and he holds you tighter than he’s ever held you before in his life. Harder than the time you broke your arm riding his bike. Harder than the first time his dad hit him. Harder than when you came back from your first vacation away from him. Harder than the time you had your first breakup. Harder than the time you found out you had gotten into the college of your dreams.
You count down from 10 in your head, and when you reach zero, it’s over. He lets out a shaky breath and wipes the remaining tears from his face before he shoves his hands into his pockets.
You both smile sadly, you down at his shoes, but he’s smiling at you, his eyes glossy. He wants to never forget this moment between you two. He can only hope you’ll come back for him, come back for your childhood friends. Your home. Your boys (and girl).
“I guess this is it,” he says, finally.
You try to look him in the eye, but you notice something.
There’s a single eyelash on his cheek.
“Wait,” you say, and pick it up for him.
“Make a wish,” you encourage, holding it in front of his face.
He looks between you and the eyelash.
Usually he doesn’t believe in that type of thing.
Though instead of his usual protest, he surprises you.
He closes his eyes, and makes his wish, blowing the eyelash off your thumb.
He opens his eyes, smiling.
“D’you know... do you want to know what I wished for?” He asks. He pulls you into his chest and tears start to well up in your eyes again.
“No,” you laugh, sniffling, “Then it won’t come true, dummy.”
“I don’t care if it comes true or not… I know it’s going to come true.”
“I don’t want to know your wish!” You cry into his shoulder. You feel him shudder with laughter.
He traces patterns on your back, his head resting on your shoulder, his ear pressed up against yours, his clean shaven face pressing into your jaw.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, JJ.”
