“If I had known,” said Sam, looking over his shoulder, still whispering, “that you would turn out to be the most hardcore cuddler? Like a ten ton vibranium weighted blanket. A human straitjacket.”

“You’re gonna wake up the cats,” said Bucky, into the space between Sam’s back and the pillow.

“Like not even the big spoon in a big-spoon little-spoon type situation. A serving spoon. A ladle.”

“Wh—…Sam. Shut up.”

“A big…vibranium spatula.”

“I’m snoring. I’m sleeping. I can’t hear you.” And then after a full minute of neither sleeping nor snoring Bucky asked, “then what?”

“Huh?”

“You said ‘if you had known.’ If statements usually have then statements. If you had known I’d be good at hugging, then what?”

“Oh,” said Sam, after thinking about it for a moment. And then said yawning, “Probably wouldna been scared of you at all.”

“Yeah.” He pulled Sam in closer. “Well, there were lots of things you didn’t know about me.”

Sam’s breathing evened out, and Bucky’s eyelids felt heavy. The thought formed in the back of his head and floated to his consciousness. It was the type of question you only ask half-lucid. He pressed his forehead against Sam’s back. 

“You’re not scared of me now, yeah?”

“Never.”

Bucky grinned into the fabric of Sam’s shirt. 

“If I was I wouldn’t let you use me like a damn body pillow.”

Bucky sighed.

i think A LOT about the idea of redwing having recordings of everything he and sam sees. Just imagine sam looking thru 'em one day, looking for an especific mission file and then there's bucky, laughing and scrunching his nose at sam, staring at him with heart eyes when he's not looking and sam feels this warm feeling in his chest. inserts italic oh here
