Try as I might, Tumblr wouldn't bring up these accounts for a proper reblog when I searched the usernames. Apologies for being unable to reblog!

A Tip For Blending When Painting Digitally: Use A Transition Color! I Quickly Made This When My Brother

A tip for blending when painting digitally: use a transition color! I quickly made this when my brother asked for art advice while I was working on a painting for my best friend. (I was watching a lot of makeup videos to pick out her gifts).

Hey, if you don’t mind sharing, I’ve always wondered how you got that soft celling look on your characters in your comic. Any tips? I’m currently working on my own comic and I kind of want to go for a less harsh form of cell shading. Thanks!

A couple people have asked about the way I color things and I’ve been meaning to post a tutorial on it :]. I’ve never been too good at describing my process, but I hope this helps!

hello! hey! quick psa!

when mixing skin tones, always mix in lighter and darker complimentary or analogous colors (such as pinks, reds, and purples) to change value, don’t just add black or white to change a value

this way you get a real nice looking palette like

instead of a dead looking palette like

unless you’re going for dead, in which case carry on

Skin Coloring Troubles?

One of my tips for learning to color skin, is to watch makeup videos!

Now I know they can be annoying sometimes, but hear me out.

Makeup videos point out vital things in emphasizing promenant facial features, such as where to put highlighter and bronzer.

Highlighter, or in an artists case, lighter skin color or shine, goes on defining features (e.g. brow line, cheek bones, nose, etc).

Bronzer on the other hand is put on the parts of the face that need to be “deeper” and darker. An example of this would be between the cheek bone and the jaw bone, as well as around the top part of the forehead / hairline.

Of course it is important to blend just like in makeup, but this is just an example of where to start out.

Keep in mind that different facial shapes look better with different shading, and that light sources are important to consider as well!
