Ivan, talking to his team of grisha's: Alright, listen up you little shits.
Ivan: ...Not you, Fedyor. You're an angel and we're thrilled to have you here.
Fedyor: Nina, I’m deeply disappointed in your taste in men
*Matthias, innocently passed out in his waffles*

I really love the addition of this relationship, and the fact that they introduce the relationship like this, because it makes Ivan a much more sympathetic character. You can see how much he has to lose and how easy it would be for him to lose it. It makes his staunch defense of The Darkling (no matter what atrocities Aleksander commits) make much more sense.

Fedyor isn't entire sure what's happening- well, apart from the fact that everything is burning and it hurts and he's exhausted, that is.
He hears someone speaking next to him, and forces his eyes open just a fraction, though even that sends sharp needles of pain shooting through his head; even the dim light of the candle burning atop his nightstand is too much to bear, so he closes them again, but not before he has discerned two blurry figures in red standing by his bedside.
One is Ivan, that much he would know even in death (which honestly feels quite close now), his heartbeat more familiar than Fedyor's own. The other must be some Healer, whose name he sadly cannot bring himself to remember now. Then again, right now it feels as if he wouldn't know the Tsar's name if it smacked him in his fever-flustered face, so. There's that.
"Just the flu," the Healer is saying, calmly, and it doesn't sound like a lie but it sure feels like one. How can it be just a flu when he literally feels one step away from being boiled alive in the deepest, darkest pits of hell? "He should take a few days off, drink plenty of water and rest up. But he'll be fine- really, Ivan, stop giving me that look. It's rare for anyone to die of such common illness -much less a Grisha of Fedyor's caliber. It's a wonder he even got sick in the first place."
Well, yeah, he's just an unlucky son of a bitch like that, isn't he?
"Fine, okay." Ivan says, but even in his stupor Fedyor can tell his worries haven't abated. Silly Vanya, always worrying Fedyor will keel over at as much as a gust of wind. "You can go, Freja, I'll make sure he rests. Thanks for checking up on him."
Fedyor ignores the rest, which is only a few hushed words of thanks and goodbye between the two Corporalki before Ivan returns to his bedside, the mattress creaking and dipping under his weight. Fedyor feels a gentle, cool touch against the burning skin of his face, and forces his eyes open again to see Ivan's hand gently brushing a few strands of damp brown hair off his sweat-slick forehead. Despite the bone-deep weariness and the pain that's throbbing dully within every single bone of his body, he brings himself to smile a little.
"Hey Vanyusha," He slurs breathlessly, "am I dying yet or what?"
"Don't be foolish." Ivan says with a glare, though it lacks its usual intensity, probably in regards to Fedyor's current pathetic predicament. "You just caught a bad case of the flu, and of course you just had to go and make it worse by overworking yourself even while you were sick. You'll be fine, though. You just need a bit of rest."
By a bit he probably means a lot, Fedyor concludes, but at present he doesn't mind it- he's burning, pretty much swimming in his own sweat, his bones hurt, and his head feels as if someone's splitting it open with a well-polished Fjerdan axe. Yeah, rest sounds about heavenly right now.
"Mmm...okay..." He squirms under the blankets -really, doesn't Ivan think this is a bit too much? He can barely move after being tucked in like a child, which he thinks is a bit excessive, but who's he to contradict Ivan's judgment?- until he feels more comfortable, the sheets blessedly cool against his bare skin and earning him a few moments of reprieve from the heat of the fever. "Stay with me?"
Ivan snorts, but there's a lightness in it that assures Fedyor he's already won without even a fight. "Of course. I wouldn't leave my idiot of a husband alone in this state. You'll probably need help to even piss."
"Rude." Fedyor complains with a feverish giggle, blinking a little in an attempt to adjust to the light, then deciding it's no use and letting his eyes fall shut again. "You should be nicer to me now that I'm so sick..."
He hears Ivan make that snorting sound again, but this time it's closer to a genuine laugh. "Yeah, sure. Now sleep before I make you."
It's not an empty threat- as a Heartrender, Ivan can easily put Fedyor to sleep even in a good day. As things are right now, Fedyor wouldn't even be able to resist. But...
"I'd like that." He murmurs. "Please ...feels nice... when you play with my heart ..."
It's probably just the fever making him delirious but, he isn't going to lie; Ivan putting him to sleep through Heartrendering makes him feel safe, warm. When he feels Ivan's hand press down on his chest just slightly, he sighs in delight.
"As you wish, beloved." Says Ivan, ever so gently, his voice soft with an emotion only Fedyor is privy to. His powers are already slowing Fedyor's heart, and the latter doesn't resist, succumbing to the sweet, honeyed darkness Ivan is leading him to.
His last thought before he falls under, is that he should get sick more often if it means Ivan will fuss over him like that.
What I love most about Ivan and Fedyor is that you can tell they’ve been together for FOREVER

A slightly younger Nina: Hey, Fedyor, can I go out with my friends?
Fedyor: Well, what did Ivan say?
Nina: He said no, but he's not the boss of you.
Fedyor:
Fedyor: *internally* This is a trap this is a trap this is a trap-
I was curious why they decided to have Fedyor track down Nina and attempt to bring Matthias to the general. It could have just been a group of randos. I wonder if this is foreshadowing for Ivan being on the opposite side of the Civil War and Fedyor being torn between two sides, ultimately unable to harm Ivan and wanting to protect him/defect with him.
He clearly feels betrayed. This girl he probably spent a lot of time with, grew to like a lot, taught maybe, put expectations on, this girl is betraying his beloved Ravka. The Little Palace. Grisha. For someone who would have those like Fedyor and his lover burned alive.
He has spent years in the army, serving to the best of his abilities. He’s learnt how to be harsh, perhaps cruel even. He had to, it’s a war. He’s killed countless Fjerdans, must have saved countless Grisha. He’s proud of what he is and what he stands for.
What a slap in the face this must have been. The acting is excellent here. You can see and hear how much Nina let him down. He doesn’t want to hurt her, he cares about her, but betraying Ravka, your duty for someone who fights on the opposite side of the war? Someone who must be guilty of committing and supporting terrible things? Unimaginable.
But what if your hearts starts pounding for the enemy, Fedyor? What if you have to persuade people that your lover is not a monster, that he can see reason? What are you going to do then?
How important is one man to you?

The delivery here is curious. It’s not arrogant or smug. Just like with Fedyor, this is betrayal. He’s affronted. It’s clearly personal to him that someone would wish to abandon Alexander, and I think it’s because we are meant to realise that these lines are ultimately about Ivan. Alexander gave him everything when he’d lost everyone. Protection, a purpose. He was favoured. Recognised. He even got an amplifier. Then this new girl shows up, and suddenly everything starts revolving around her. She barely spent time in the Little Palace, yet she’s favoured more than all of them. He even gave her an amplifier. Despite her barely accomplishing anything. And now she just… abandones him? Betrays him? Unthinkable to Ivan. His beloved general who loves and protects all the Grisha is backstabbed by someone who should have been grateful and loyal to the core? A grave offense.
He’s so blinded by his gratitude and loyalty, so dependant on his own false perception of Alexander that he refuses to face what’s happening. It’s all about this one man. What he symbolises and promises. And he promises a lot. For someone like Ivan who’s consumed by his anger and bitterness, whose pride is hurting because the world rejects those like him, who is constantly afraid that his beloved will die to those who hate Grisha, it’s too tempting. There is a reason that a clever manipulator like Alexander chose Ivan as his second-in-command. He knew which buttons to push.
Ivan remembers his place. Ivan wouldn’t dare. Unless he would. For the right reason.
Is one man that important to you?
It’s interesting that in the same episode both of these characters had a very personal conflict with someone they resented/grew to resent because of something they did that was so unthinkably offensive to Fedyor and Ivan that we got to see them at their worst. If they both are alive in the next season, their beliefs and die-hard loyalty to Ravka/Alexander will get challenged hard. Perhaps they will grow to understand Nina and Alina.
“Is one man that important to you?” might be a question they both will have to ask themselves. And they might be surprised at the answer.
