kaz during his confrontation with the darkling

Right. After seeing the teaser and the buzz on the Internet.
I decided to buy the book "shadow and bone", I'm on chapter 6 - it's really WONDERFUL so far- But I'm madly in love with the "Darkling".
I first felt that they were going to push Mal and Alina down my throat, you know like the annoying trope of unrequited love, until one day they see each other 🤮.
But from kinky blood play, to chopping a man in half for her, to SHARING A HORSE, to joking around with each other.
Excuse while they become my new obsession!!!
But I'm a little worried as he is called the "darkling", like c'mon, you could try to be a little more inconspicuous!
Prayer circle. Please don't be evil! Prayer circle.
How would you ranked all episodes in Season 1 ?
(Shadow and Bone Show Spoilers)
Ok this is such a fun question but also a hard one to answer because I honestly enjoyed all of the episodes and I don't think there was necessarily any bad ones. However I have put some thought into it and come up with a ranking. So I have based these rankings on how well the episode kept my attention, how much of an emotional response the episode got out of me, whether there was good character development and also how much I've gone back to rewatch the episode. I am going to start from my least favourite and work to my absolute favourite and I am also going to give each episode a mark out of 10.
8th Place: Episode 1, A Searing Burst Of Light.
So I liked the pilot but it was all about setting up the characters and the world and the plot. It did what pilots do, set the scene, and it does it well but it isn't one I go back to watch often and when I do I will skip over alot of it. That being said I would give this episode a solid 7/10.
7th Place: Episode 6, The Heart Is An Arrow
Similar to the pilot I feel like this one was an episode that was kind of just setting up and moving the characters to where they needed to be for ep 7. It felt a little like a filler with Alina and M*l being on the run and Aleksander looking for them. That being said there were some really great moments in this episode especially with the crows against the grisha. I liked the tension of Aleks vs Kaz and the scene of Jesper vs Ivan and Inej vs Polina. I kind deny it was pretty cool to have Kaz and Aleks in the same scene. Seeing Aleks learn that Alina left by herself and seeing how hurt he was also really pulled at my heartstrings. This episode I would give a 7.5/10
6th Place: Episode 3, The Making At The Heart Of The World.
So there were some parts of this episode that I really liked. I loved the introduction of Genya and seeing Alina at the LP and having her training. I also liked the presentation to the King scene. The stuff with the crows crossing the fold and Jesper with Milo the goat was also peak humour to me and so I loved that. But again like the other two episodes it did feel like one of those episodes that was getting things set up and about giving you information that we were going to need in later episodes like the stuff about the amplifiers. So considering all that this one gets a 8/10.
5th Place: Episode 8, No Mourners
So this is where it gets harder to decide where each episode goes because I loved all of the remaining episodes but after much deliberation and mind changing I decided to put the finale in 5th. The finale was great I loved seeing all the characters finally coming together in the same place and there was alot of drama with the whole Novokribirsk incident and the fight on the skiff and all the kind of conflicting and complex ideologies behind it. I also liked the whole full circle with us being in the fold in the pilot and then returning there for the finale. The moment where Alina overcomes the collar and really shows her powers was also pretty epic. However I wasn't a huge fan of how she was then side-lined by Ivan until the battle was over. I also think the cliffhanger of Aleks coming out of the fold followed by his new shadow soldiers was a really good way of getting the audience excited and curious for the next season. This one I am giving a 8.5/10.
4th Place: Episode 2, We're All Someone's Monster
This is one of my favourite episodes. There are so many great scenes in it and its defo one I go back to watch again alot. I love the tent scene where Alina first meets Aleks because there is so much tension and chemistry between them, it was definitely the moment that sold me on darklina and I remember the first time I watched it my breath was kind of taken away at just how intense the scene was and the light shooting out of her arm just looked so spectacular that whole scene was just amazing. I also thought the darklina scene in the field showed that chemistry off again and I liked the conversation they had and how they challenged each other. Another scene that I liked was the ambush. I think it provided that action but it also did a good job of showing just how dangerous it was for the grisha and what life was like for them but it also showed how powerful Aleks was and how feared he was. My heart also went out to Alina in that last scene where you see her break down in her room at the LP after everything hits her, its a very real and genuine moment. I am also going to give this one a 8.5/10
3rd Place: Episode 4, Otkazat'sya
Ok so into the top three now. Episode 4 was another one that I often go back to and has one of my top 5 favourite darklina moments in it. I loved the scene in the war room where Alina comforts Aleks and creates that dome, I just think it was a genuine moment between the two of them that was about comfort and care and not being alone in the world and I love scenes like that. I also liked the visual of like the yin yang doorway shot, where she's in the light and he's in the shadows and there this door between them, it was a very cool shot. The fountain scene and learning more about the Black heretic was also interesting. But I also liked that we went back to Mal and saw his hunt for the stag with his friends. Some of my favourite Mal scenes were between him, Mikhael and Dubrov I adored their friendship. So this episode was heartbreaking for me seeing their deaths and it got a genuine emotional reaction out of me. This one once again gets an 8.5/10.
2nd Place: Episode 7, The Unsea
So I am a big fan of angst and of watching scenes that tear my heart out. This episode had that in bucket loads. I loved seeing the creation of the fold and seeing Aleks backstory as I think it told us a lot about how he has got to the place he's at now. It was a story that I think was very sympathetic even if it is a bit of an overdone cliché to go the fridged girlfriend route, but it helps you understand where his motives come from and the visuals of the fold being created were very cool. I think the collar scene was very uncomfortable to watch as it should be and again heartbreaking. I also thought the tent scene between darklina was very angst filled and it really did get an emotional response out of me and I cried at that scene. I also thought Ben's delivery of the 'Fine. Make me your villain' line was just genius and was one where I caught my breath and it had one hell of an impact. I also think the scene between Alina and Genya was so sad, having to watch what was such a beautiful friendship break down was heartbreaking. This was definitely an emotional episode. But I also liked the scene between Mal and Aleks, I thought it was an interesting one to watch and again there were some great lines in there, like the 'time will do that for me' one. It had such great tension in that scene. Then there was that amazing scene between Kaz and Inej where you really see Kaz open up and be vulnerable with Inej. I loved that line he says about how no saint has ever watched over him not like she has. That one captured my heart. So this one gets a 9/10.
1st Place: Episode 5, Show Me Who You Are.
Of course as a darklina shipper this one had to be at number one. There were so many great Darklina moments in this episode from the way he looks at her when she comes into the ballroom, or during her presentation, to the 'you looked like you needed saving' line, all of their kisses including that very steamy one on the war room table. It was the ultimate darklina episode. But to be honest this episode for me was so special not just because of all the great darklina content but because of Alina and seeing how she had grown. In this episode she is so full of confidence and she looks so happy. In the words of Genya I liked seeing her that way. I liked seeing her having fun and joking around with Nadia and Marie, I liked seeing her excitement about the fete, I liked seeing her confidence in her powers and showing that she didn't need the gloves to control them. I liked seeing her knowing what she wanted and going after it with Aleks. I love that she initiated that first kiss. I loved that she seemed to have so much hope for the future. Of course that did make it all the more painful when it all came crashing down with Baghra's reveal. There was also the excitement of having the Crows in the LP trying to pull off their heist and the tension of Mal showing up to. There was that very intense scene with Inej and Kaz where she kills for the first time to protect him. I also loved the moment when Inej sees Alina use her powers and just has this look of complete reverence on her face, it just meant so much to her and you could see that. There was also that very comical moment of Alina climbing into the Crows coach herself. I just feel like this episode had everything, it had the action, the drama, the tension, the excitement, the comedy and the sizzle. So obviously because this was the episode of all episodes it gets a 10/10.
I am curious to know how everyone else who rank the episodes though.
If Aleks is resurrected, I hope that there will be some change in his personality.
I definitely think dying may give him a new perspective on things, make him evaluate his choices and have some self reflection. I don't want them to change his personality completely, personally, but I think it could be interesting if they kind of give him a little bit of a reset and have him be a bit more similar to his younger self in the 1x07 flashback. Not all the way, still keep some of that darkness but bring him back a little to the light, I think it could be an interesting foil to Alina if they go for a corruption arc for her like they are hinting at. It would also continue to play into that idea of balance, as Alina is drawn more towards the dark, Aleks is drawn more towards the light until they find the balance and kind of meet in the middle, if that makes sense.
If they do bring him back, and I strongly suspect that they will, then I would be curious to see how his death effects him and how it changes him and his views on life and the world and the grisha situation.
Hi. I found interesting site: Teases 'Six of Crows' Spin-Off and Season 3 Villain.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.newsweek.com/shadow-bone-six-crows-spin-off-season-3-villain-plans-eric-heisserer-1787601%3Famp%3D1&ved=2ahUKEwju8fDI8-r9AhVIhP0HHUh2DgoQtwJ6BAgJEAE&usg=AOvVaw2hnxBMmgP-arXDlTZvkqFI
(Book Spoilers)
This was an interesting read. There's some parts in particular that caught my attention. Eric talks about the potential of getting a six of crows spin off and I really do think his reasons for wanting a spin off are good ones.
"If we're able to get our way, because there are a lot of mouths to feed, the best course of action is to allow us to do Six of Crows as a standalone season and really spend time with those characters," Heisserer said. "And then Season 3 of the mothership allows us to spend a good amount of time with all of our Ravkan contingent."
One thing I do think the show has struggled with is fitting both the crows and the ravkan storylines into 8 episode long seasons. Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed both seasons so far and I like seeing these characters cross over and interact with each other. But I think now that they've established these characters and introduced them to show only watchers splitting it into two shows where they can focus more time on the two sets of characters would be a good move. Especially as we can still have cross overs so the characters can still interact with each other.
"But then it moves forward from there, and the fun will be knowing when those characters can cross-pollinate again, and when we can sort of Avengers Assemble everybody against a common, major enemy."
"The Thanos of the Grishaverse is a much-held secret that we've been excited to get to, if we ever get a chance," Heisserer said, adding that the villain they have chosen will be one that fans of the books are familiar with but he would not elaborate further.
Ok this part really really has me intrigued. Who could this 'Thanos of the Grishaverse' be? It sounds like it is someone that book readers in particular would know. Which makes me wonder if it is someone who hasn't appeared in the show yet. I mean if I made a list of potential thanos level villains then maybe Alina if they go dark with her but that seems too obvious, Aleks also seems way too obvious.
It could be a character from the Six of Crows duology or the King of Scars duology as I haven't read either, so I am not sure if anyone there could play the part of a really powerful villain. I did hear about a Saint Elizaveta, who has a connection with bees and there is a moment in the finale, when they are burning Aleks' body and Nikolai is giving a speech about a firebird rising and rebirth, where a bee lands on Zoya which I think is hundred percent a nod to Elizaveta and how she plots to bring the darkling back. But as for her being this thanos of the grishaverse I am not completely sold as from what I understand she gets killed off pretty quick in the duology, think she's only in one of the books, so I don't see her being a major enemy like Eric is talking about here.
One intriguing possibility is Ilya Morozova. Although he doesn't appear in any of the books he is mentioned alot and the show was dropping some pretty big hints that he is still alive, Baghra said that even after he was thrown in the river more of his writings on Merzost kept popping up. We also know that he too, like Aleks this season, was infected with Merzost which is why Aleks hoped a cure might be found in his journal. Which makes me wonder if maybe Ilya did find a cure. Can you imagine Ilya Morozova rocking up with the power to control Merzost without the effects of the poisoning that comes along with it? He could make a pretty formidable foe. He could definitely bring some more morozova madness to the show.
(Warning Shadow and Bone Season 2 SPOILERS!)
Theory time. So I have been thinking alot about how Alina’s corruption arc may go in season 2 and I with all the parallels between her and Aleks this season and all the talk about her not following his path, I am expecting that her story is going to match that of Aleks’.
Aleks had a position beside Anastas, the king, until the king began to fear how powerful Aleks was and became afraid of a coup, but I have always wondered whether someone was whispering in Anastas’ ear and to the country as a whole that Aleks was something to be feared, either out of fear or out of jealousy that Aleks was so trusted by the king. I mean the two Leading officer’s who confronted younger Aleks did seem particularly hostile towards him, Aleks was a military adviser so maybe they resented the position Aleks had with the king and wanted him gone?
What’s all this got to do with Alina’s corruption arc though, you may ask? Well Alina ends the season in a position next to the king, much like younger Aleks. Just like Aleks had at the time Anastas and the country turned on him, Alina has just won a war for the country, tearing down the fold and so at the moment she is being celebrated. But the ending shows Alina using the cut at Nikolai’s coronation, which means she uses shadow powers in front of an entire room of people. But the nature of the event, a coronation, means that these people are ones that have power, station and influence. Some would even have been foreign dignitaries, all who could spread the word far and wide about the Sun summoner using shadow powers.
We also know that Nikolai is hiding the secret that he is infected with merzost from the nichevo’ya. The apparat also makes a reappearance, the apparat had schemed with Aleks to gain power and was acting on behalf of the royal family whilst the king was incapacitated and the royal family were hiding at the spinning wheel. I imagine the Apparat is not happy about his loss in station now that Nikolai is on the throne. Also I suspect Nikolai is more likely to listen to advice from Alina than from the apparat, so the apparat has also lost his position as the king’s most trusted advisor. I could see the apparat trying to regain his position and the best way to do that would be to cause the nation to distrust Alina and Nikolai. Sooner or later the Merzost effecting Nikolai is going to make itself known and I think the apparat will begin to spread around that Alina is the one responsible for Nikolai’s condition. After all they all saw her use shadow magic, I think he will tell the nation that Alina is poisoning their king just as the darkling poisoned his king before her. The apparat could be going for the angle that if he gets Alina out of the way then he can make the claim that Nikolai is incapacitated and make a move to once again rule in the place of a ‘sick’ king.
I also think that Alina will begin to act more and more ruthless in her attempt at keeping ravka and the grisha safe and that will be a slippery slope for her. This might cause the people to turn on her and for her to lose her popularity and that results in her being hunting, if Nikolai ends up incapacitated by the merzost, which is possible considering they added the whole Aleks being poisoned by merzost plotline, then it could be he isn’t able to protect her and the apparat is there leading the charge. Alina would, as was foreshadow in the fountain scene in 1x04, become the brand new heretic.
I do think that the worse things get for Alina the more she is going to understand how right Aleks was and may begin to long for him. I could see this leading to Aleks’ resurrection. Ok so King of Scars Duology Spoilers incoming. I know that he does get resurrected in the duology and that its nikolai and zoya who are tricked by a saint into doing a ritual to bring him back believing it is a cleansing ritual for Nikolai’s demon and that Aleks’ spirit ends up in the body of a character named Yuri. However I don’t think that they are going to go the same route as the books when it comes to his resurrection, not entirely anyway. For one thing I do think that they will want to keep ben barnes, so I reckon they will bring him back in his own body reformed from his hand by merzost. Obviously I think the gang is going to start looking for a way to solve Nikolai’s problem. With it being merzost related I think they are going to start with Ilya Morozova and his journal. I also think instead of appearing to Nikolai and Zoya the saint will appear to Alina. I could see this going one of two ways either the saint tricks all of them into believing its a cleansing ritual or the saint tells Alina right off the bat that she wants to resurrect Aleks and Alina works with her to trick Nikolai and the others into doing the ritual. Alina could tell herself that she is doing it for Nikolai, she knows from Baghra that Morozova continued his writings after his supposed ‘death’ including those which Aleks uses to create the fold, so maybe she believes that Aleks may either know more about Nikolai’s demon or knows where they might be able to find more of Ilya’s writings on Merzost, and she’ll use this to justify bringing him back. But I think another part of her just wants Aleks back, is already feeling that loneliness and it likely feeling off balance without him there to act as her counter, she may come to realise that he is the only one who can understand her and so that is also playing a part in her helping the saint bring Aleks back.

Shadow and bone rant because I have serious concerns for the people under the tumblr tag.. spoilers
I’m the first one to defend a villain, especially if it’s Ben Barnes, they tend to be more interesting characters with a personality. But you can not defend the darkling.
Everything the darkling did, tv show and book from scene one was manipulation to get what he wanted (expand the fold). He’s not the first villain to use romance to get what he wants and normally I love that trope IF it involves a morally grey character. Not a straight up evil character.
The darkling does so many things to claim Alina as he feels entitled to he as they’re both summoners. Starting with the kefta colours, knowing how she felt about it, he still pushed her to wear the black kefta and not the blue (she does end up with the black kefta but it’s her choice to wear it).
Multiple darkling stans find the scene where he tricks Mal into telling him alinas favourite flowers and then uses this information to ‘woo’ her, cute and iconic. It’s not cute or iconic. It’s basic manipulation.
Then he actually collars her! Like mutilates her body with the stag antlers against her will all so he can have control over her and her powers. When she calls him out on it, he still tries to manipulate her, telling her lies and lies and repeating how much lonely they both were, and how much they depend on each other, right up until the last ten minutes when his true plans are revealed.
He spends 8 episodes and a full book telling Alina how they are equal and they can rule together. And then proves they aren’t by stripping her of her will and putting her in impossible situations and forcing her to make impossible decisions and then blaming her for everything that was going wrong.
The tiny backstory we had was supposed to make us feel sorry for the darkling and give us the reason why he did what he did. And yeh it gave him a reason to create the fold - you could justify that. But you can’t justify what he did the Alina and genya and zoya and Mal.
Edited:::
@grishaverse-oddity made a great comment under the post that NEEDS to be mentioned:
“And the whole scene with Zoya and the Darkling in his room, where they explicitly state that he groomed her since she arrived in the Little Palace and used her as stress relief, in the books they only ever hint at it not flat out state it”
I have read (and re-read) the Six of Crows duology.
I have not read a single other book from the Grishaverse.
Every time someone posts something about the other books, my immediate reaction is almost always, “Wait, WHAT happens????”
poison coma.
genya safin x reader
type: fluff
word count: ~1.4k
warnings: food poisoning, a little self criticism
summary: feelings finally come out after some weird tea and a poison coma.
inspo: “i dreamed about you while i was in my poison coma. i was all old and withered, and you were still nice and pink.” “you think i’m nice?”

i ran through the halls of the little palace, not caring who or what i might run to. this was too important.
finally, i spotted a familiar head of red hair dressed in ivory. i ran up to the girl, grabbing her hand and leaning towards her ear. “you busy? i have a scoop,” i whisper.
genya turns from ivan, smiling at me. “well, i always have time for a scoop,” she says, turning back to ivan before saying a quick ‘bye’ and turning back to me. “lead the way, sankta y/n,” she says.
i scoff as i walk off, my hand still in hers. “you know i hate that name,” i say.
genya giggles. “i know. that’s why i use it.”
i roll my eyes, pulling her out the palace and under a nearby tree. i sit down under its shade, the tailor sitting next to me.
“you’re so mean to me,” i say, not even trying to hide the grin on my face.
genya smiles back, a dazzling grin that would make the whole world stop to look. “oh, but you love me,” she says. “at least, you love me enough to fill me in on the gossip.”
the gossip. yes, she only wants the gossip.
“okay. well, i was walking down this hallway. completely empty, or so i thought,” i say. “i hear some hushed voices, so i follow them and find… drum roll, please.”
genya giggles but nonetheless beats on her lap to supply some kind of drumroll.
“nadia and marie!” i say, causing genya to gasp. “they were, what i can only describe as, canoodling on a bench!”
genya giggles. “i knew it! those two are together far too much to just be friends!”
i wonder if people think that about us. i push the thought aside, instead looking at the grass underneath me.
genya started rambling about something ivan had said to her as i looked up to her and listened.
she was so beautiful, even when she didn’t try. it was impossibly hard not to admire every single part of every single feature of her, but i managed to do it.
i always did.
i sat down in the library, a cup of tea in hand. i placed it down on the table i was sitting at, opening a book and beginning to flip through it.
after a few minutes of reading, i took a sip of my tea. it was colder.
colder than it should be.
i looked down at it, trying to figure out where the steam should be. the. it couldn’t clearly see the cup anymore as the lines began to fade into the table.
i suddenly felt dizzy, and the world began to spin fast. everything was blurry and dull but also clear and bright.
then everything was black.
i looked down at my hands, noticing how the usually smooth skin had wrinkled and how the veins in my hand had gone blue. i touched my cold hand to my face, and felt the loose skin wrinkle around my features.
i had grown old, and if i looked in a mirror, i knew i’d look like a human raisin.
i heard giggling from the outside of my room, and i quickly recognized the voice.
genya. she can’t see me like this.
i hurriedly looked around my room for something to cover myself with, but i was too late.
the tailor pushed open the doors, a beautiful smile on her face. “morning, love,” she says.
i look at her, my eyes wide. “genya, i don’t know what’s-“
“shush,” she says walking behind me. she tangles her hands in my hair, quickly braiding and styling it.
i looked up and found a mirror in front of me. i really was old and gross, but genya was still amazing. as beautiful as the last time i had seen her.
she finally finished styling my white hair, she rested her head on my shoulder, smiling at me.
“beautiful,” she muttered.
i smiled at her. “it’s all you.”
she giggles, kissing my cheek. “i’ll come back for you in five minutes. put on your kefta. goodbye.”
and with that, she was out the door, her beautiful red hair flowing behind her as she left the room.
she was so kind to me. even when i looked horrifying, she called me beautiful.
i looked horrifying. why did i look horrifying? what was the last thing i remember?
the library. the tea. the blackness.
the black.
the…
i woke up to the feeling of crisp sheets underneath my fingertips, the light chatter of people filling the room.
i sat up, taking in my surroundings.
the infirmary.
i hear someone walking outside before the doors fly open, revealing a familiar grisha woman.
“y/n!” genya says, running towards me while healers turn towards genya than me.
the healers all turn towards genya, then to me.
genya is suddenly at my side, hugging me tightly.
“oh!” i exclaim, hugging the girl back.
genya pulls away, smiling widely at me before a wave of worry passes over her. “i was so worried about you. sergei found you passed out in the library. we didn’t know what happened. i was worried out of my mind!”
“genya!” the healer calls, causing the tailor to turn to face her. “we need to talk with y/n. do you mind?”
“oh! sorry!” genya says, smiling one more time at me. “i’ll be back for you when they release you, okay?”
“okay,” i say, smiling as she walks away.
the healer turns to me, asking questions about what i remember and how i was feeling. once she was done with her questions, she told me would be out in a few days.
thank the saints.
food poisoning. the tea i drank had food poisoning, making me slip into a “poison coma” (as genya called it). it just required a few days of rest for the symptoms to fade away, then they’d let me out.
the day they let me out of the infirmary, genya was waiting right outside of the doors. as soon as i was out, she pulled me into the tightest hug imaginable.
“saints, it’s been practically unbearable without you around,” she says into my hair. once she pulls away, she smiles brightly at me before tugging at my hand. “come on! we have so much to catch up on! you missed so much, and i want to hear all about the gossip the healers spread!”
genya began to go on about rumors of a new ball as she dragged the two of us to our tree. once we got there, i sat down as genya still stood, going on about what everyone was saying about the ball.
i smiled up at her, watching as she looked down and smiled back. “well, why don’t you tell me about how it was in the infirmary? if it was horrible, i’ll pull a few strings and try to improve the conditions.”
i shrugged. “conditions were find. the coma thing was weird.”
“really?” genya says. “i heard it can cause hallucinations. i’m not sure though. that mold can do weird things.”
“i dreamed about you when i was in my poison coma,” i blurted out. “i was all old and withered, and you were still nice and pink.”
“you think i’m nice?”
i look, noticing genya with a uncharacteristically shy smile on her face. i smile back at her. “i think you’re very nice, genya.”
a huge smile breaks out on her face as she sits down at my side. “i think you’re very nice, too.”
i can’t help myself. i just lean forward and kiss her.
for a second she doesn’t react, and i panic. what if she doesn’t like me back? what if she doesn’t even like girls?
and then i felt her smile against my lips, kissing me back. i wrap my arms around her, feeling every dream i had about this moment put to shame. she was just so amazing, in absolutely every way, and i couldn’t help smiling against her lips.
genya finally pulled away, giggling. “oh, you’re very nice, y/n.”
i chuckle. “i could say the same for you, genya.”
flirty drunk
jesper fahey x reader
type: fluff
word count: ~1.5k
warnings: alcohol, implied bisexuality (idk if that’s a warning), gambling, a lil self doubt
summary: after a night of gambling, jesper gets a little drunk. who knew he was so flirty when he got tipsy?

the crow club was busy. like usual.
but among all the chaos, i could still spot jesper gambling his money away.
he was always either at a table drinking away with friends or at a gambling table. today, the latter was the case.
he threw his cards down, laughing dryly. i knew he had lost.
i walked over to him wrapping my arms loosely around his neck from behind. jesper was still babbling away, even with me near him.
"how much did you lose, jes?"
"nothing much. 10 kruge."
"35," the man officiating the game butted in.
i laughed as jesper sent him a glare. "i thought we were friends, man," he whispered.
i leaned towards jesper. "well, i think jesper's gambled enough for one night. i'm going to steal him away," i say, pulling him up.
everyone else at the table lets out a whistle as jesper whines.
"love, it's not that much. i bet i can win—"
"win it back? jesper, you have the luck of a one-legged dog."
everyone laughed as jesper only whined more. i plopped him down at a table with inej and nina seated at it.
"i'll be back with some shots. be a good boy, and don't move," i tell jesper, who had taken to pouting. he nodded resentfully but kept frowning.
i went to the bar and ordered some shots. i looked around while they were being made. jesper was still at the table, talking excitedly with nina and inej. i smiled at the sight.
i took the shots and placed them on the table. jesper immediately downed a shot and set it back down.
"someone's thirsty," nina commented, looking at the empty shot glass on the table.
"y/n said i couldn't gamble," jesper said, looping his arm around my shoulder.
"he had lost 35 kruge," i argued.
"you don't need to defend yourself. jesper gambling is never a good thing," inej says, taking a shot and drinking it.
jesper yelled a bit as nina, inej, and i all laughed at him.
a few hours later, i had not taken a sip of alcohol but jesper was extremely inebriated.
"y/n, darling, you're gorgeous. y'know that, right?" jesper told me, his words slurred.
inej and nina giggled at his behavior.
"so you're a flirty drunk?" i ask jesper, watching him stare at my face.
"i just speak the truth when i'm tipsy. and the truth is you have the face and body of a greek goddess," jesper says, blushing.
i laugh. "i think we need to get you to bed."
"yours or mine?"
nina, inej, and i laugh at the bit as i attempt to hide my blush.
"your bed, jes," i tell him, standing up.
jesper smiles. "feel free to join, love," he says as he winks.
nina and inej are thrown into another fit of laughter at jesper's attempts to flirt.
"okay, jesper. let's get you to bed."
jesper tells nina and inej goodbye before following me to the slat. (not without a few stumbles.)
once i got him to his room, i opened the door and i allowed him to walk inside. he walked into his room and plopped down on his bed as soon as he got close enough.
"this bed is so cold," jesper said, turning over so that he's belly-up. "if only you were in it with me."
i shake my head in amusement. "you're really dead set on getting me in bed with you, aren't you?"
"wouldn't any reasonable man be?" jesper said, propping himself up on his elbows so he can look at me. "or woman for that matter."
i laugh at him. "i'll sleep in your bed tonight if you get dressed right now," i tell him.
jesper immediately scrambled into action, stripping off his clothes immediately. i try to look away but it's pretty damn difficult considering his build. he's attractive. very attractive.
he slips on some sleeping pants and opens his arms. "dressed!" he says excitedly.
"where's your shirt?" i ask, noticing his bare torso.
"i don't wear a shirt to sleep, love," jesper says, winking.
i laugh and shake my head. "get in the bed. i'm going to go get ready," i say.
"you better come back! i trust you!" jesper yells, slipping under the covers.
"i promise i'll come back," i say, smiling at him.
"okay!" jesper says.
i go to my room and change into a sleeping shirt and shorts. i walk back to jesper's room.
he's still awake, but i can tell he's getting sleepy.
"hello, my love. you look gorgeous even in pajamas," jesper says, looking over at me. "i bet you'd look even better in nothing."
i blush at that. "jes, you big flirt."
i crawl under the sheets, already feeling the warmth of jesper's body.
"why'd you have to wear a shirt? i can't feel your skin," jesper whines.
"did you want to feel my skin?" i ask him, amused by the boy's drunk antics.
"yes," jesper says, tugging at my shirt.
i sit up. "you really want me to take off my shirt?"
"yes."
"why should i?"
"because i've done everything you wanted me to."
i thought about it for a second before taking off the shirt and throwing it to the side. i had an undershirt on, so i wasn't too concerned. i laid back down.
"better?" i ask as jesper traces shapes on my bare arms.
"much," he says, a huge grin on his face.
jesper loops his arms around my waist, resting his head on my chest.
"jes?"
"hmm?"
"what are you doing?"
"going to sleep."
"are you going to be using my chest as a pillow when you sleep?"
"yes."
"okay."
"i love you."
"i love you too, jes."
"not like that."
"what do you mean?"
"i love you."
"i love you too."
and then he fell asleep.
and i fell asleep, my mind on what just happened.
does he love me? or does he just love me as a friend? or is it just the alcohol talking? well they say drunk words are sober thoughts. i'll deal with this in the morning.
i woke up only to see jesper still asleep, his arms and legs wrapped around me with his head on my chest. my arms were around his neck loosely.
i just smiled down at him. he looked still and peaceful for once. i had never seen him like this before.
my hands went to his hair as i started to play with it.
jes' hair was extremely soft. it felt like clouds. and it was curly. i could take each little strand of hair and twist it around my finger if i wanted.
i started to just run my fingers through his hair and massage his scalp.
"if i knew you liked my hair this much, i would've let you do this before now."
i looked down to see jesper with a lopsided smile, looking at me.
"sorry," i said, removing my hand from his hair.
jesper grabbed my hand before my fingers fully left my hair. "don't stop. it feels nice," he tells me.
i allow my hands to start playing with his hair again.
"morning, by the way," jesper says, his words slightly slurred.
"morning. did you sleep well?" i ask.
"spectacularly. i had the best pillow in ketterdam," he says.
i laugh at him. "headache yet?"
"i've built up a resistance to hangovers, darling."
"really? i thought you'd at least have a headache. you drank quite a lot last night."
"speaking of last night, how'd you end up in my bed? not that i'm complaining."
"you wouldn't shut up about me sleeping with you, so i caved."
"and your shirt is on the ground because..."
"you said you wanted to feel my skin."
"what else did i say?"
"you told me you loved me."
jesper's eyes went wide, but my hands never stopped.
"i said what?"
"you said 'i love you.' so i said 'i love you too, jes.' and then you said 'not like that.' and i said 'what do you mean?' and you said 'i love you.' and i said 'i love you too.'"
jesper blinked at me. "did you know what i meant?"
"i know exactly what you meant."
"so why'd you say it back?"
"because i love you too."
then jesper looked up at me with the biggest smile.
so i took my hands out of his hair and put one on each of his cheeks, and i kissed him.
his lips were soft and warm, and they still tasted a bit like whiskey. but it was perfect. he was perfect. his lips moved perfectly against mine while me moved so that his body was hovering above mine.
we pulled apart for air as he smiled down at me.
"is this why you bought us shots?"
"no. but i'm happy with the result."
he smiled and leaned down to pull me into another kiss.
But the rare pairs hurt. send help.
I'm the worst person to get into fandoms, I'll see one post about a pairing I never thought about and will grow emotionally attached to it immediately, and become hyperaware. So many ships have grown overwhelmingly because of this-- please help.
