Shen - Tumblr Posts
Okay, this is pretty funny. Also Monty Python's the Holy Grail is goated!

I was going to post this when the second half of this was closer to being completed, but I've been busy elsewhere, and haven't had time, and I wanted to share this.
Hi! A lot of the time in pictures of the Monkey King, he has a sort of hat with two feathers(?) coming off the top of it. Are they feathers? What is this hat or hairstyle called, and what is the significance of it, do you know? Thank you
The novel calls Sun Wukong's hat a "purple gold cap with phoenix feathers” (fengchi zijin guan, 鳳翅紫金冠). [1] This kind of head gear is most commonly associated with young heroes in Chinese opera, and it's generally portrayed as a helmet with lingzi (翎子) feathers. According to Bonds (2008):
[F]eather movements enlarge the gestures and emotions of the wearer. For example, rotating the head in circles…expands a sense of anger. Shaking the head back and forth quickly…adds to extreme frustration. Biting crossed feathers in the mouth heightens the appearance of aggressive feelings (p. 44).
But this kind of feathered headgear was once a kind of military regalia. You can see examples from this detail of The Emperor’s Return to the Capital (Rubitu, 入蹕圖), a painting from the 16th-century:

Knowing the above explains why it really, really annoys me to see drawings of the Monkey King with feathers attached to his golden headband or sticking out the top of his head like insect antennae.
That's why I wrote this article about what Sun Wukong looks like:

Note:
1) Yu (Wu & Yu, 2012) translates this as "a cap with erect phoenix plumes, made of red gold" (vol. 1, p. 137).

Could Medusa Kill Sun Wukong?
My previous article shows a possible astrological connection between the immortal-killing skull weapon of Yuebei Xing, the Monkey King's daughter, and the gorgon Medusa.
This made me think of an interesting question: Could Medusa kill Sun Wukong by turning him into stone? I think many people would agree this isn't possible considering that he's already stone. But I don't think other Journey to the West characters would fare too well.
I say this because, according to this insightful reddit post, the Dionysiaca (Gr: Διονυσιακά, 5th-century) shows that even the Greek god Dionysus considered her death stare dangerous enough to bring protection against it during his battle with Perseus:
The thyrsus was held up in his hand, and to defend his face he carried a diamond, the gem made stone in the showers of Zeus which protects against the stony glare of Medusa, that the baleful light of that destroying face may do him no harm (Rouse, 1940, vol. 3, p. 413).
So if Medusa could harm or even kill Greek gods, she could definitely do harm against various Journey to the West characters.

Me, making a character's backstory knowing they're already dead in the main storyline:

౨ৎ. No way a Pressure fic
I think the idea of Sebastian having a wife was wasted for Sans fangirl like discourse. Like, genuinely, lore-wise it has so much potential for a much interesting development and character insight, even if it's selfship. Like, my self insert, Shen, is for selfshipping, and I made like, paragraphs of lore, with this fic also featuring an interaction with him and Sebastian before he was experimented on and lost all memories.
So anyway, I decided to give my own two cents on how the existence of a wife could've done so much in such a context, with, as said before, a fic
Know that my writing is very Ao3 base level lol so </3 also I'm a little disgraphic so please tell me if there are misspellings and errors I didn't notice!
Second fic here!
