Spencer x Reader

Summary: Reid is a little insecure about his lack of experience which leads to his team making sure he know just how valued he is, as he is. Which gives him the courage to act on his feelings.

You planted yourself on the edge of Morgan’s desk right next to his head. He turned his head looking up at you reaching out he swatted at your jean covered leg. You didn’t move only glanced over your shoulder at the young genius who sat at his desk and then back at Derek.

He realised you weren’t moving so he sighed and sat back in his chair. ‘Alright what can I do for you sweetheart?’ You smiled slightly at your nickname. Derek had always been one to give people nicknames, but mostly Garcia. He had lots of pet names for her, he stuck with sweetheart for you. ‘Spencer, does he seem a little off to you, these last few days?’ You muttered keeping your voice down.

Derek glanced around you looking at Reid, you were both lucky that he was preoccupied with whatever preoccupied that amazing brain of his to notice. ‘Subtle big guy, subtle’ You groaned and Derek looked back up at you with a smile. ‘Maybe he’s just thinking over some crazy complicated theory? How are we supposed to know?’ He sat forwards.

You rolled your eyes. ‘Derek, no, it’s something different this time. I know it’ Derek sighed and nodded. ‘I picked up on it too, since a few of the new interns started he’s been, not distracted but-’ You nodded pointing at him. ‘That’s it, see you got it too’ Derek smirked. ‘And you’ve noticed it’s since the interns got here’ Again you rolled your eyes.

You swore that one day you were going to roll your eyes so hard at him they were going to go straight back into your skull. You had told Reid this and he had started rambling about how he didn’t think it was possible. ‘Keep on topic’ You groaned.

You let out a small gasp as Derek reached out and grabbed your thighs. He spun you slightly on the desk and shifted his chair so that he was sitting between your legs. ‘I am on topic, maybe he has a crush on an intern, maybe he is trying to figure out how to ask one out, you a little jealous sweetheart?’ He chuckled a little giving your leg a squeeze. You gave him a slight glare. Derek was a good friend of yours, he knew everything about you, right down to the oft spot you had for Dr Reid.

Someone cleared their throat behind you. You looked over your shoulder to see JJ standing by Reid’s desk. Derek looked around you and smiled at JJ. ‘New Case?’ He asked. She shook her head. ‘Not yet? You two okay?’ She glanced between the two of you. Derek nodded. ‘Just having a discussion’ Derek smirked and glanced up at you. You narrowed your eyes at him.

Morgan stands and walks around you going to lean on your desk. ‘I was thinking of asking out one of the interns’ You turned on the desk both of your eyes registering Spencer’s reaction to Morgan’s new piece of information. Spencer furrowed his brows a little. ‘There’s a pretty blonde one, Laura? She seems nice? Dont ye think Reid?’ JJ shook her head turning to leave but her eyes caught how focused you two were on Reid reaction and decided to stay.

If the two of you were up to something, especially with how distracted Spencer had been the last few days, maybe she should stick around. You two together were not known for being subtle about things. Separately you were okay, together, not so much, you fueled each other. It was why Hotch always seemed to put the two of you in interrogations together, you were the best team they had.

You were a good team on the field, when it came to things like this, she knew by the look in both your eyes this wasn’t one of those, let’s take it easy on the boy genius times. you were worried and Derek had started off a chain reaction that meant you were both going to get whatever you wanted out of him.

JJ laid her hand on Reid’s shoulder. ‘I have not talked to her, but she was flirting with another agent in the break room this morning’ Reid nodded. You smiled leaning your elbow on your knee and your chin on your fisted hand. ‘You wouldn’t mind that would you? Or maybe blondes aren’t your thing? Jessie, she’s got pretty brown hair and Nice eyes. Maybe you two should have a double date?’ JJ closed her eyes letting out a long quiet sigh.

Reid’s eyes widened a little. Suddenly he was on his feet shaking his head. ‘I don’t think a double date would be a good idea.’ He began gathering up some files almost dropping them. ‘I don’t think me going on a date would be a good idea, with anyone’ With that he turned and strode off.

JJ gave you both a glare. ‘Bingo’ You jumped off Morgan’s desk. ‘I got it’ You looked at Derek. ‘You want to take this or should I?’ You asked your fellow agent. He stared after the youngest member of your team. ‘It would sound better coming from you, you take it’ Derek stood from the desk and nodded to you. JJ positioned herself in your way as you nodded jumping from his desk. ‘What are you going to do now?’ She put her hands on her hips giving you a stern look.

You sighed and reached out putting a hand on her shoulder. ‘I’m going to look after my friend, Derek will explain’ You slid past her striding through the bullpen towards where Spencer had disappeared to. ‘Anything you want to tell me?’ JJ turned to the there man. ‘We profiled our very own Dr Reid, and she’s gone to sort things out’ Derek shrugged going back to his reports.

You found Spencer in the far break room filling up his coffee mug, the files lying on the table looking like they had just been tossed there. ‘Penny?’ You stopped by the door keeping your voice soft. Spencer tensed a little. ‘Spencer, talk to me’ He sighed and turned pushing his hair back.

He refused to look at you. ‘Were me and Morgan too harsh?’ You stepped into the room. Reid shook his head putting down the cup of coffee and crossing his arms. ‘JJ was the last person I asked on a date’ He whispered his voice small. You frowned and stepped closer to him. ‘You haven’t asked anyone out since JJ?’ He shook his head his eyes darting around the room. ‘I wouldn’t even know what to do with someone on a date’ His shoulders slumped.

You let out a small laugh. ‘Spencer, no one does, dates are nerve wracking, asking someone out is horrible, but that doesn’t mean that should stop you from doing it. Listen, Jessie is a nice girl, maybe the double date with Derek wouldn’t be so bad’ You stopped in front of him looking up at the man in front of you. ‘Let Derek take the lead, all you have to do is ask her about her and listen to her’ You reached out and patted his arm lightly knowing how he felt about these things.

You sighed when he slipped by you walking over to collect the files again. ‘Spencer-’ you stared but he spun around. ‘I don’t want to ask out an intern, they’re all more experienced than me. They’re all my age but they’re more experienced. I’m not lke them’ With that he almost fell back to sit on the desk.

Now that took you off guard, you didn’t think that would be the problem, sure you had figured his lack of experience with dating was some of it, it made him nervous but you never thought it was going to be what was holding him back what was putting doubt in his mind. With that you strode towards him, right now you didn’t care about any of his little quirky aversions.

When you reached him you threw your arms around his neck pressing yourself against him in a tight hug. You felt his body tense against yours. ‘Who cares if you’re not like them Spencer, you’re perfect the way you are. You wouldn’t be you if you were like them’ He began to relax a little as he let go of the desk and wrapped his arms loosely around you. ‘God, don’t you ever think that’s a bad thing Spencer’ You muttered into his neck. ‘Don’t you ever think you being you is bad’ You pulled away slightly so you could see his face.

You placed one hand on his cheek. ‘Lack of experience or not, you’re still one of the most interesting and sweetest people I have ever met, anyone would be lucky to date you. You may lack experience in that field but look at you, you’re a seasoned FBI agent who has taken down killers. You have an IQ of 187 and can read 20,000 words a minute, you have three PhD’s and three BAs. You finished high school at 12 and you have an eidetic memory. Of course you’re not like them, but none of us want you to be. We wouldn’t trade our Reid for ten of them, for anything’ You ran your finger over his cheek.

Reid was watching you with wide eyes, his lips slightly parted. Then he furrowed his eyebrows. ‘You really think that?’ You smiled up at him and nodded. ‘Yeah, we all do Penny, we all do’ You let the smile spread as he tightened his arms around you pulling you straight back into him. You ran your hand back through his hair as he buried his face in your shoulder.

He relaxed into you completely. ‘Thank you’ He whispered. You pulled him tighter to you and nuzzled into his shoulder. ‘I’m only telling the truth Reid’ You muttered. ‘So, that date?’ You asked. Spencer shook his head. ‘I’m not interested in an intern’ You nodded understanding as you tangled your hand in his hair.

Two days later you sat at your desk across from Reid. You were both doing reports after a quick case the team had just finished, both staying late. ‘Hey Y/n’ You looked up to see Reid already watching you. ‘Did you know about 353,000 babies are born everyday?’ You smiled sweetly at him. ‘No, I did not, that’s interesting where did this come from?’ He shrugged his eyes darting to the left and then back to you. ‘Something just reminded me of it’ He answered before going back to his work with a smile.

You chuckled. ‘And 151,600 people die every day?’ He contributed again. ‘How many of those are murders?’ You asked him leaning forwards on your desk putting your arms on the table. Spencer looked up at you his lips spreading into a smile. ‘In the United states, 16,238 a year, that means about 44 a day. 11, 068 of which are killed by firearm related incidents’ Spencer started to ramble. ‘Woah there Pretty boy, talking Y/n ear off again?’ Derek patted his shoulder as he walked by.

Spencer stopped and looked up at his his mouth still open. ‘She asked’ He defended. ‘And I was enjoying it, thank you very much’ You scolded Derek and picked up your pen again giving Reid a small smile showing him you actually meant it before going back to your resport. Out of the corner of your eye you seen Derek nod at you widening his eyes at Spencer. Spencer shook his head quickly. Derek nodded giving him a quick glare. You narrowed your eyes ready to jumped at them, wondering why they were acting so odd.

But Derek bet you to anything. ‘Time for me to go, have fun kiddos’ He turned walking out sending a warning look Reid’s way. You both waved at him calling goodbye after him. ‘You two okay?’ You asked Reid who’s eyes widened and he nodded frantically realising you had seen the altercation before. You went back to your work knowing whatever it was he wasn’t up to talking about it.

An hour later you picked up your jacket and bag. ‘Alright, I’m leaving, you want a lift?’ You asked Reid who looked up at you. He shook his head. ‘No, thank you, I’ll see you Monday’ You smiled at him nodding. ‘Goodnight Spencer’ You turned leaving the genius at his desk. You pushed open the door and walked to the elevator waiting for it to come up. ‘Or tomorrow’ You heard a small voice from behind you

You stopped turning around. ‘What?’ Reid stood in the glass doors leading from the bullpen. His shoulders were slumped a little but you could see the tension in them. His hands moving briskly. ‘Or tomorrow, I could see you tomorrow’ He looked up at you crossing his arms over his chest. ‘Sure, what do you have in mind?’ You asked with a smile. ‘Dinner? Dinner is good right?’ You raised an eyebrow. ‘Yeah, people need dinner’ You chuckled.

Reid shook his head. His hand coming up to push his hair off his face before he tucked it back in his elbow. ‘I mean for a date? Dinner is okay?’ Your eyes widened and you cleared your throat. ‘You’re asking me on a date?’ He nodded slightly looking down at the floor, then to his left, then the ceiling. You couldn’t help the large smile that split your face in two. ‘Then dinner is perfect, seven okay?’ His head snapped back to you.

He blinked a few times before shifting on his feet and uncrossing his arms. ‘Uhhh, seven is perfect, I’ll pick you up? Or what? I don’t-sho-’ You let out a laugh striding over to him. ‘I’ll see you at mine at seven for our date, goodnight Spencer’ You leaned up on your toes pressing your lips to his in a quick kiss. Smiling you pulled away, at least that would calm his nerves for tomorrow. He wouldn’t be worrying about kissing you them. ‘I’m looking forward to it’ You whispered hearing the elevator ding. ‘Goodnight’ You smiled and turned walking into the metal box.

You turned just in time to see thim before the doors closed. He was standing watching you with a massive grin on his face. ‘Don’t ever change Reid’ You giggled and he waved at you quickly before the door cut off your sight from one another. You sighed leaning back against the wall as the elevator went down.

You had a date with Dr Spencer Reid, how did you get so lucky?
