Pairing: Steve McGarrett X Reader

Summary: Based on the episode where Catherine leaves Steve when he is about to propose to her. The reader is Steve's childhood best friend and has had a crush on him since they were in high school.

You and Steve had been best friends since you were children. You both attended the same school, were neighbours and your parents were close so it was only a matter of time before you became friends and as the years went on, your friendship became stronger.

You had been his shoulder to lean on when he lost his mother and he was yours when both of your parents passed away in a car crash, leaving you and your two older siblings orphans.

As time went on through your teenage years, feelings for your him manifested and before you could tell him, he left to serve in the Navy, leaving you heartbroken.

The next time you saw him was when he came for his father's funeral. It was a huge loss for both of you, mostly for him. John McGarrett had been a father to you after your parents death. He'd taken you under his wing when you joined HPD.

Seeing Steve after such a long time caused the feelings that you had long buried to resurface only for your hopes to be dashed when Catherine joined him and he introduced her as his girlfriend. You put your hurt aside and was happy for him and Catherine.

When he put together the Five 0 task force you were the first person that he recruited before asking Danny, Chin and Kono to join . You enjoyed working with the rest of the group and it was wonderful to be part of a family which only grew when he also recruited Captain Lou Grover.

You were there for him when Catherine broke his heart by deciding to stay in Afghanistan after they decided to go there to help a family that she knew from her time there.

You were there for him when she came back into his life and continued as though nothing had happened. Even though you still weren't over what she had done to him, you were happy that he was happy once again.

When you found out that he was planning on proposing, Kono had sent you a sad look over the table as you were in the middle of an investigation. You only sent her a small smile in response before you congratulated him.

Now here you were parking your car next to Catherine's. You had taken it upon yourself to talk to Catherine and find out what her intentions where now that she was back in Oahu.

Getting out of your car, you took a deep breath of the salty sea air that was being blown inland, before walking toward Catherine.

"Hey Catherine." you said giving her a hug.

"Hi, Y/N" she replied as she pulled away from the hug.

"Thank you for meeting me."

"Of course. I was a bit surprised though. Did Steve send you for one of his favours again?" she teased.

"No," you chuckled, "I'm actually here for my own reasons....I wanted to talk to you about Steve."

"Sure. Go ahead."

"I've known Steve for such a long time and when you left him he was crushed and it saddened me to see him like that."

"I am still sorry that I did that to him, he didn't deserve any of it and I'm still making it up to him."

You nodded in response.

"The Steve that I see now is probably the best version of himself that he has ever been. He's happier and that's because of you. I just want you to promise me that you won't leave him again." you said as you looked at her.

"I'm actually grateful that he has such a loving family that was there for him when I wasn't and... I promise you Y/N. I promise that I won't leave him."

Her response made you smile. You went to say say something when your phone rang, pulling it out you saw that it was Steve who was calling you.

"Well looks like I gotta go. It was nice talking to you, I'll see you around."

She nodded in response and waved at you as you went to your car before driving to Iolani palace to resume the investigation.

Later,

Steve parked his truck in front of his house and looked toward his house only to furrow his eyebrows when he saw Catherine sitting on the porch.

He sighed before getting out of the truck and walking toward his house, pausing slightly when he saw the bags that were set on the ground next to her.

"Catherine..." Steve began.

"I'm sorry." she interrupted him. "I'm sorry but I can't stay."

"Why?"

"I need to go someplace where I'm needed."

"But you are needed here." Steve interjected.

"Not in that way, Steve."

"You could come and join Five-0."

"Five-0 is your thing, Steve and I want to have my own thing."

Steve sighed before sitting down next to her.

"How long will you be gone?" he asked defeatedly.

"I don't know."

"Where are you going?"

"Nepal. They're going to need all the help they can get especially after the earthquake that occurred."

"That'll only take 2 months." Steve reasoned as he looked at her.

"Steve, if I could be in two places at once, I'd do it." she whispered as tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"But you're choosing to go where I'm not!" he paused, "Catherine, if you leave, I can't wait for you."

Catherine sniffled as tears kept falling down her cheeks.

"So what now?" she asked in a small voice.

"I could drive you to the airport." Steve offered.

"No need. I already called someone." Catherine replied looking toward the road, " I couldn't bear to say goodbye to you there."

The sound of a car approaching, caused Steve to look up, to see a black Chevrolet SUV parking next to his truck.

"Looks like my ride's here." Catherine said, wiping her tears away as she stood up, causing Steve to do the same.

She pulled him into a hug before whispering, "I'll always love you, Steve."

He pulled away from her, and watched as his whole world took her bags before walking away from everything that they had.

"Aloha." he whispered.

Meanwhile,

You were packing up your stuff so that you could go home after another successfully solved case, when you received a message from Steve.

'I need you.'

Was all that it read.

You quickly grabbed your things and rushed out.

"Hey, Y/N. The rest of us are going out for drinks. Are you coming? You can call Steve too." Kono called out to you causing you to stop.

"Sorry, I can't tonight. I have something to take care of but I promise that the next time we go out I'm paying. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay, see you tomorrow." she replied.

You left and quickly rushed to your car before driving all the way to the McGarrett residence.

By the time you got there it was dark. Parking your car next to Steve's truck, you got out and rushed to his house.

Opening the front door, you noticed that the lights were off.

"Steve?" you called out as you searched for him in the kitchen to no avail.

You decided to go upstairs only to find him sitting on his bed, hunched over.

"Steve?" you said softly, "Are you okay? Where's Catherine?"

He looked over at you with tears on his face, "She left."

Your heart clenched at the sight of him in such pain, "Oh Steve. I'm so sorry."

"And the worst part is that she said there's nothing for her here. Am I nothing?" he asked as his voice cracked as you went and sat by him on his bed.

"Steve, you're more than enough and if she can't see it then that's her fault. Just know that I'll always be here for you." you said as you rubbed his back before pulling him into a hug.

Steve was as tough as they come, but under that rough exterior he was a sensitive person.

And you'd always be there for him no matter what.

A/N: Day 4 of 12 Days of Christmas!

Y/N had been feeling "ick", as she described it for two weeks. She thought it was just a cold, but her husband, Steve, made her set up an appointment with her doctor.

Steve has decided to go with her, so they both told the rest of the Five-O team they would be in afterwards.

As they sat in the waiting room, Steve's arm around Y/N's shoulders, they talked about weekend plans.

"I think if you're feeling better we should have a couple of beers." Steve says.

"A beer, or a glass of wine. They both sound amazing."

Eventually they were called back and Y/N was examined by the nurse and as always, was asked the question.

"Is there any chance you could be pregnant Mrs. McGarrett?"

Y/N looks at Steve, then back to the nurse.

"Yes."

"Ok, I'll go get you a pregnancy test to take, and then after you're done and the results come back I will send the doctor in."

"Thank you." Y/N says. The nurse leaves the room and she turns to her husband. "Do you really think I could be pregnant?"

"Yeah. We weren't actively trying, but we also weren't using any birth control." Steve replies and grabs her hand. "You know I want to have children with you and now is as good as a time then any other."

"Yeah. It is."

After taking the test and getting the results Y/N and Steve go back to work with smiles on their faces. Everyone was at the table looking into a drug trafficking ring.

Their heads pop up when the door opens and the married couple walks in.

"Hey! How'd it go?" Tani asks.

"Well, I'm not sick." Y/N smiles.

"Ok?" Danny drags.

"She's pregnant. Just a day over two months and the baby is due Christmas Day." Steve looks at Y/N lovingly.

"Oh my god!" Tani exclaims, rushing around the table to give Y/N a hug.

Adam, Danny, Junior and Lou all do "bro" handshakes with Steve congratulating him before moving onto Y/N.

After all of the excitement died down, Danny spoke up.

"I bet you all twenty bucks that baby is born on Christmas Day."

Y/N was awake bright and early the morning of Christmas Eve. Five to be exact. Their baby girl had been laying on her bladder for the entirety of her last trimester, so like clockwork every thirty minutes she had to pee.

It might also be because she's excited for the Christmas parade. Danny, Charlie, Grace, Mary and Joanie are going, so she is excited to spend time with her family.

"Baby girl wake you up again babe?" Steve asks as he walks down the stairs to see Y/N laying in the couch reading "What to Expect When You're Expecting" with Eddie.

"Yeah. We're excited for the parade." She looked up at her husband with a big smile. Steve chuckled and pressed a kiss to her head before heading into the kitchen.

After spending most of the morning watching Christmas movies they got ready for the parade and left to meet everyone else.

They met Mary and Joanie in the parking lot, then met Danny, Grace and Charlie on the street.

Everyone had been super excited for the arrival of baby McGarrett, especially Charlie, Joanie, and Grace.

"Aunt Y/N?" Charlie asks as he stands in front of her and Steve to see the parade.

"Yeah Charlie?"

"When is my baby cousin going to be born?"

"I think the baby is going to be born tomorrow." Danny says and Mary agrees.

"Yeah she's a McGarrett, tomorrow will be the day for her grand entrance."

"Have you had any contractions?" Steve asks as he adjusts Joanie in his arms.

"Just a few Braxton Hicks here and there. I do have constant pressure in my lower stomach though, so that means the baby is dropping into the birth canal." Y/N says as she rubs her belly with a smile.

Throughout the parade Y/N had pain in her back, but she figured it was just from standing, so she leaned against Steve and he rubbed her back as good as he could standing up.

At the end the group decided to get brunch, so as Mary was putting her bags in her car, Y/N picked Joanie up off of the ground to put her in the car seat but a pain caused her to stop lifting the toddler.

"Ow. Ow. Ow." She says and puts her hand on her stomach, then she feels something pop and fluid runs down her legs.

"Oh my god. Did your water just break?!" Mary exclaims as she rushes to grab her daughter from Y/N.

Steve, who was putting the stroller in the trunk rushes to his wife's side.

"Yeah. It did, and I'm having a contraction." She grunts.

"Ok. Danny can you go get our hospital bags from our house and drop Eddie off with Tani?"  Steve asks.

"Yeah. Yeah, of course. Go!" Danny replies excitedly.

Steve helps Y/N into the truck before rushing to his side and starting the vehicle.

"Let's go have a baby!"

After thirteen hours of labor, Malia Noelle McGarret was born at one thirty-five in the morning weighing seven pounds fourteen ounces and twenty inches in length.

Her parents sat in the hospital bed that afternoon after being cleaned up and sleeping for a bit, with Malia in Steve's arms just staring at her.

"God she's so beautiful." Steve gushes.

"She is. Can you believe she's ours?" Y/N asks quietly.

"We don't deserve her. She's perfect. I don't ever want anything for Christmas again. You cannot top this Y/N. Thank you for giving me my baby girl." Steve says with tears building up in his eyes.

"Thank you for making me her mommy." She kisses him on the cheek as he continues to stare at Malia with adoration.
